Yikes I've trashed my G4!

I was attempting to put in a radeon 9000 pro card in my G4 DA which didn't work and I kept getting kernel panics on boot up, I then switch back to my Rage Pro 128 but now it won't boot. I get the grey boot screen and everything is fine until it shows the logon then there's nothing, just a blue screen or sometimes the monitor just switches off.
Have I completely duffed up my logic board?

Thanks guys, i worked out what I'd done wrong, plugging in an adc card while the power is still connected is never a good idea. I tried everything, resetting the pmu, pram, safe mode, verbose mode etc. The only thing that worked was to reset everything while the card was out, pram pmu, nvram etc. boot up without the card, turn off, install card and boot up again.
I'm using my old rage pro crad but I still can't get the radeon 9000pro to work, i just keep getting the black kernel panic screen on boot up.

Yikes! I accidently trashed iphoto library

I see my iphoto library in the trash, and a bunch of my albums. I was cleaning stuff up and must have inadvertently done this. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get things back to normal. I dragged the library to my desktop, and it's copying it and says it'll take 4 hours. any thoughts?

I figured it out. Just moved it back to my external hard drive. No problem. When I dragged it to my desktop, it was trying to copy the entire library. Didn't want that.

I put photos in trash and emptied it! Can I get files bacK?

I threw my entire photo library in trash (don't ask) and emptied it. I've been trying to recover files with Data Rescue II -- have run it three times and every time, it sticks when I get to "Scanning Drive, Postprocessing CBR Data"
The first time it said: remaining time = 16 mins. 2nd time: remaining time = 18 mins. This time it says: Remaining time about 17 mins.
I started it last night at 10 pm. It's been stuck on "17 minutes remaining" since I got up this morning.
ANyone have any suggestions for getting it to process the hard drive?
Is there any other software I should try? I stopped using hard drive as soon as I realized what I'd done. I backed it up on external hard drive and am running off of that. (I know, I should have backed up BEFORE I deleted everything. Yikes)

The File Salvage program is truly a god send. It had been recommended to me and admittedly I was a bit skeptical. Ultimately, I did decide to download and purchase the Sunday morning following my unfortunate mishap and try it.
I am so happy that I did decide to buy and try it.
The downside is that can be time consuming as it automatically assigns new generic file names / numbers to each file that necessitates the user to open each file to determine if it is a file that he/she wishes to rename and save.
The upside is that I got all my files back and of course my sanity, as well.

IPhoto Trash Can deleted my entire library

I bought a brand new 27" iMac at the end of Oct 2010, which came pre-loaded with iPhoto '11 (Version 9.1 (475). I copied photos from my old iMac onto CD-ROMS and then imported them directly into my brand new iPhoto '11 by the select, drag and drop method. I deleted maybe 5 photos which the trash can correctly counted. However, when I deleted my trash can, it included ALL the photos in my entire iPhoto library (4000+) and deleted my entire library. These photos were not visible in the trash can before I hit the delete button.
After that happened, I thought maybe I did something wrong, so I manually transferred the photos to my iPhoto '11 all over again. This time, photos which I haven't even deleted appear in the trash can and when you try to empty the trash can, the message says something like "Are you sure you want to delete 4000 photos?" (i.e. my entire library). Plus it seems that I can't manually move things out of the trash can because they just magically reappear in the trash again. Why is this happening?
BTW I just downloaded and installed the latest iPhoto update, but the problem still persists.
As a side note, before deleting my iPhoto library, I had used Migration Assistant to transfer some files from my old iMac G5 (circa 2005/2006) to my new iMac using a firewire cable. However, as I did not transfer any applications, I don't think this would have affected my iPhoto '11, right? It was only after I noticed that my iPhoto library didn't get transferred to my new iMac that I decided to import photos to my new iPhoto '11 manually.
Apple products seem to be getting worse. I've filed a report with Apple, so hopefully they can fix the software. But what can I do in the meantime?

same thing here. out of the clear blue my trash said it had 800 photos in it (my library has 9000 photos in it). I looked at the ones in the trash and they appeared to be still in the real album, as though I had duplicated some of my photos then trashed them. If i tried to empty iPhoto trash it asked me if I wanted to delete my entire 9000 photos (even though only 800 were in iPhoto trash).
I rebuilt the entire iPhoto album (option command button on launching iPhoto) and picked all rebuild etc. options, took a couple hours) but the problem persisted. Fortunately I was totally backed up from a day or so ago, I checked the backup to make sure it did not have the trash problem, and then had iPhoto empty the trash of the one with with trash problem, and like others it dumped the entire iPhoto library! Yikes
Now there are 2 things on my computer that i could not afford to lose, 20 years of photos, and 20 years of quicken data, so I am VERY careful with those, and fortunately it paid off.My back-up is good and I rebacked up that file, but what a disaster that would have been had I lost all m photos.
so, This is not a minor glitch but a huge software issue that has to be fixed fast, not everyone, despite being told so, has good regular back-ups.

Can't empty trash "501"

On my Mac Book Pro (2008, OS 10.6.8) I keep getting a message:
"501" can't be opened right now because it is being used by another task, such as moving or copying an item or emptying the Trash. Try again when the current task is complete."
I have:
1. Rebooted the computer (even removed battery after shut-down)
2. Made sure no programs were running or Finder windows opened.
3. tried to erase only a small fraction of the 2,500 files that have accumulated in the trash....Yikes!
Any one have a solution to this problem of mine?

Run disk utility, fix any errors. Verify disk and repair permissions. After that try to delete the files.

Video in trash?

Yikes...desperately need some help! All set to work on my master's project when I found my project to be gone in FCP. Somehow all my video is in my Trash can. I am a nervous wreck trying to remedy this situation but have little computer knowledge when it comes to navigating on a Mac. How can I restore my project? I took my clips out of the Trash and are now filling up my desktop. I double-click on them which boots FCP but I have almost 40 clips on my desktop and they are all out of order. I don't understand. I did install a maxtor external hard drive. Could this have something to do with it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

This will give you a bit more space, not much, but maybe enough to work with...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then do a Get Info in the Finder on some big file(s) you can afford to trash, then unlock the Lock at the bottom, change Permissions so you can Trash them, Empty the Trash while holding the Option Key down.
Where aiming for 20+% or 10+ GB whichever is more for free space.
When you get a little elbow room...
How much free space is on the HD, where has all the space gone?

Need to recover deleted files in Trash

Help help. I found an icon of my desktop in a folder with personal docs. thought it was strange so I threw it in the trash. and I had LOTS of files laying out on the desktop- then I emptied trash. Yikes. very very dumb I know. BUT
How can I retrieve the files that had been on my desktop that got emptied in trash?

TRASH AND BURN!

I've got more than 20,000 pix in IPhoto 6 and with everything else am down to my last 10 per cent of disk space. Yikes...
So, I've been brutal for once. And the great hoarder that I am has dumped 6,000 pix into trash thinking I could burn them before removing totally.
Alas, I can't find a way of doing this, other than to reimport them into the main library. In which case, I'd be back to square one after weeks of pruning. This would mean that the pix which are currently ready for the axe being littered all over the place again throughout my library - they don't even seem to come up as 'last import' when returned.
I should, of course, have put them all into a new folder called, say, Burn, done the deed and and then trashed them, but pix in trash won't go to other folders - just back to the main library.
I've also tried moving trash pix into a burn folder and that hasn't worked either.
Any other ideas before I simply self-destruct my 6,000 - by trashing the trash!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I think you've gotten yourself between a rock and a hard spot. I know of now way to get those photos grouped together in the main library directly from the Trash bin. You can't even assign a keyword to them there.
You can, however, drag them from the Trash bin to a folder on the Desktop and then burn them just as jpgs. That would work. But a warning: be sure you drop them into the folder and not miss it and put them all in the Desktop. That can bring the computer to it's knees. Best to open the folder and make it a large target for dragging and dropping.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Trash ain't filling up

Usually in iPhoto, when you cut footage out, it goes in the iPhoto trash. Since I went to the new Mac Pro, all the cuts are happening but nothing is going in the iPhoto trash.
Any suggestions?

I'm not currently running Time Machine as I have no backup drive right now. (I know, YIKES!)
The funny thing about the files in the Trash folder is that they don't show up when I open the folder. There are a couple of sub-folders, but I can't open them. It is only when I empty Trash that it tells me that it is deleting 3,650 files (or something like that) and it takes a couple of hours to complete the task.

Adobe Stock Photos Stuck in Trash and Photoshop CS2 won't run!

Okay, I apparently did something stupid. I'm not even sure how this happened, but I realized that Adobe Stock Photos folder was sitting on my desktop (I'm using OS X 10.5.6). I don't know when this happened and I didn't think I needed it so I dragged it to the trash. NOW I cannot run any of my Adobe software (includes Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2 and GoLive CS2).
I can see the folder sitting in my trash, but it won't let me drag it back out. So, just as a test, I tried dragging out the one other file (.jpg) and I can't get that one either. I know this isn't a Mac forum, but I'm desparate and cannot find anything to help me.
Probably I am going to have to reinstall everything and (of course) I can't find my CDs!!! Please don't get angry if I'm asking the wrong question. I've done an internet search and I cannot find any solutions.

Adobe stock photos does not even exist anymore.
Have you tried deleting your trash? I have no Adobe stock Photos on my computer and everything works. try restarting the computer.

DOWNLOADS FROM TRASH FOLDER

I have founbd a further problem somewhat related to my previous posting today.
My Windows live Mail is downloading the emails which BT has been moved to the trash folder. Surely if they have been regarded as trash, it should not be possible for them to be downloaded. I thought only the inbox was downloaded.
If this is not the case, how do I stop what BT regards as trash, from being downloaded.

Have you checked your BT Mail settings? There are options to switch spam filtering on or off under "Spam settings for POP users".

Unable to delete file from trash because it's "in use" not locked.

I'm unable to delete a file from trash. I keep getting the following message: "The operation can’t be completed because the item is in use." I've confirmed the file isn't locked and I've tried renaming it but still no luck. I'm running OSX 10.8.4. Any thoughts?

Cannot delete file from trash - tried EVERYTHING

Wow. I have an incredibly stubborn file (named :VBL followed by a bunch of non English symbols) in the trash that I cannot get rid of. I have tried all the usual methods of deleting, secure deleting, using Cocktail, and literally _EVERY SINGLE METHOD_ listed on both of these websites:

it actually wasn't in the OS X partition. it was still in the windows partition but due to some file system errors in the windows partition it became visible (but not deletable) from OS X.
