Yoga 11s camera problems

I bought my Lenovo about three weeks ago now and the camera app has been working just fine up until today. When I open the app, the screen is completely black. An image is shown if I take a picture, it's just the initial screen is black. Anything I can do to fix this?

  • Help ! Yoga 11s camera missing

I just got this yoga 11s one week ago. When I recieved it, everthing was fine including cameara. But I just found that I cannot use Camera. No application can initialize camera.
I tried to download and reinstall driver but it did not work. Then, I used recovery do a full recovery to factory state. No luck. I also tried to load the defualt BIOS. Still not working.
I can see the Lenovo EasyCamera uder the device manger. But I can not see any camera under the deveices and printers.
Any idea ? Is it a hardware problem?

We've replaced the machine now and all is OK with the new one so far, webcam etc all still working. We've flipped the hinge a few times to be sure.
The new one was built in August this year whereas the previous one was built in June. The new one has slightly different Windows drivers installed which made the whole process of setting it up a bit easier this time round as well.

  • Problem with viewing video upload on Ideapad Yoga 11S ultrabook

Hi all, this may be a very basic question as I am not very technical...  I have just today started using a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 11S.  (It is Windows 8 with basic Office for home and students loaded on.
I've been sent a video quick link via Media Silo I need to watch and make notes from. For some reason, I cannot maximise the video so it fills the IdeaPad screen.   The bottom half of it is off screen so I cannot ff or rw or use the slide to change position.
    Any suggestions most welcome.

  • Yoga 11s - how to boot from USB in UEFI mode (tried everything)

I have been trying for days to install Windows 7 on my new Yoga 11s in dual boot configuration with 8.1, with no luck.  Typical catch-22 problem -- can't boot from the install media in UEFI mode, and if booted in legacy mode, Windows won't install on GPT partition. I followed all the steps everywhere mentioned:  disabled secure boot, set boot mode and order in every possible combination, etc.  I followed these steps exactly to create a UEFI-bootable USB drive:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8-and-8-1-Knowledge-Base/Why-can-t-I-boot-from-a-USB-key-on-UEFI-ThinkPad-or-ThinkCentre/ta-p/1004621 I can boot easily from the USB in legacy mode, but in UEFI mode, when starting the machine, the USB is ignored.  If I go into Windows 8.1 recovery and do an advanced start and choose EFI USB, the machine thinks for a moment and then says: "System doesn't have any USB boot option.  Please select other boot option in Boot Manager Menu." Then I click OK and it offers only one option on the menu, Windows Boot Manager. I don't know if the lack of boot options is just a symptom of the USB not really being UEFI-bootable, or some other steps are needed to add boot options.  I even tried adding an item within the windows boot manager, but that didn't work, because even if it could work in principle I don't know the right settings. Has anyone actually made this work?  If so, what is the secret?

I had the same problem and a lot of frustration. I finally solved the problem by using a different USB key. I also had to go into boot options and select the USB key even though I had the USB key first in the boot order. Right now I am Re-imaging from my backup and pray for success. Although things may look brigth afterall I have to leave out some steam:The whole problem started with a screen error, which had to be repaired. So before sending it to repair I made an image backup, - just in case. I got an eight hour time window where I had to wait for a pickup of the computer,- very frustrating when you are having a job requiring traveling. After ten days the computer computer came back with a scrambled hard disk with at note saying that it was an software error, although it was no doubt an hardware error because it worked perfectly with an external monitor. I have not counted the number of hours this bad service has costs but it exceeds the value of the computer!

  • Lenova ideapad yoga 11s

i probably wont be able to explain this properly but i will try my best else i will be going to contact lenova via hte phone.
For some reason i cannot launch anything on my lenova ideapad yoga 11 s.
for instance i click on the internet explorer icon in my little panel or the camera or the calendar or the photo's icon and they do not actually open, what happens is that they appear in the bottom task bar as if they are open but they arent opened i cannot see or access them.  To open internet explorer i have to go to the search field on the computer and click on it here once it appears and then it opens.
does anyone know what the problem is with the computer and why it has suddenly started doing this.
I am not sure where to post this query on the lenova forum so if its the wrong section could you let me know and i will re-post in the correct forum.
    Thanks in advance.
Moderator note:  moved it for you.

Just for your information...I recently returned the yoga 2 pro to Best Buy and bought a yoga 11s instead. I have it upgraded to windows 8.1 without having any problem. All you have to do is to wait until the system automatically download and install the windows updates. And after rebooting the computer, go to Windows Store, the free upgrade to windows 8.1 will be available for you to download. While waiting for windows 8.1 to be downloaded and installed you can just go to Lenovo support website to find and download all the updated drivers for yoga 11s, which are compatible with windows 8.1. Then when the system automatically finishes the upgrade to windows 8.1, just simply updated the drivers one by one. So yeah, in my case, I did not have any problem or error when upgrading to windows 8.1
    Hope this helps.

  • Yoga 11s webcam Windows 8.1 Driver

When we updated to windows 8.1 we lost use of the webcam on this yoga 11s. I was advised to uninstall and reinstall it. I have uninstalled it but now unable to install another webcam. My daughter lives 1100 miles away and can no longer skype. Help please
    Moderator Note; subject edited.

    Hi,
I have a similar problem. I bought my Yoga 11S in july 2013. It ran windows 8.0, unfortunately I did not check the camera was working at this time. I updated windows to 8.1 some time after (I will not speak about problems with dolby, etc...) and just check recently if the webcam was working (skype usage). The webcam is not in the device management, I tried to installed the driver given by Lenovo for windows 8.1 64 bits but the result is "No appropriate Driver to be installed".
Unfortunately I am not able to say if it was working in Windows 8.0
I contacted the French Lenovo Support  who asks me to come back to initial configuration, they refuse to do anything else before that to know if it is a hardware or software problem.
I understand but I I am not willing to come back in 8.0 and I am pretty sure there is another option.
    Any ideas or suggestions ?
    Thanks
    Laurent

  • Yoga 11S on Windows 7

    Hello,
i tried to install Windows 7 64bit Enterprise on a Yoga IdeaPad 11S and downloaded all available driver setups for Windows 7 64bit from the lenovo website. I was unable to install the following driver packages:
    - Conexant Audio Driver
    - Camera Driver (Bison, Chicony)
    - Intel Chipset Driver
    - Intel USB 3.0 Driver
    - Intel Video Driver
    - Touchpad Driver (Elan, Synaptics)
At the moment we need to use Windows 7 because an important software isn't compatible to Windows 8. Is there anyway to get the Touchdisplay working?
    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hi Jonas,
i need to use High Speed Data Converter Pro from Texas Instruments. It is a tool for evaluation boards from TI and the problem is the usb connection on Windows 8. You can install the software on Windows 8 but you can not connect to the evaluation boards via USB. I asked for this problem in a TI forum as well, but the developers have no idea why the software isn't working on WIndows 8.
I got that idea with a virtual machine too, so i installed Windows 8 again on the Yoga 11S and tried to run Virtual Box, but now i have the problem to install a Windows 7 64bit version on the virtual machine. Up to now i'm only allowed to install 32bit OS although i enabled the hardware virtualization in the BIOS.
With Hyper-V i made it to install Windows 7 64bit on Windows 8 but wasn't able to run USB on that Hyper-V. First attempts were via remote desktop connection but didn't work so far.

  • Yoga 11S WiFi issues

    Hi all,
As with many I am experiencing severe Wifi issues with new Yoga 11s. I will try to explain in detail in the hope that someone who better understands how wifi really works might be able to help diagnose.
I have a Talktalk badged Huawei HG533 router. This delivers c.15Mbs reliably all around my house (2xTVs, computers up and downstairs, 2xphones). Using Speedtest.net to capture speeds.
With the Yoga, if I sit right next to the router (as I am now), I get 15Mbs. In other parts of the house I get just 0.5Mb, including rooms where other devices are measured at 15. I have updated drivers and upgraded to W8.1 though I experienced exactly the same problem before the upgrade.
I have tested every room and it seems that it will either work at very close to the maximum (in a few rooms) or drops off catastrophically to 0.5mb or less. There is no in between. I never lose connection altogether. There seems no correalation between the level of signal displayed (4 or 5 bars) and the speed. The 'good' rooms are separated by fewer walls.
I have also observed that on occasion having tested in a good room and then moving to one of the bad rooms it initially shows good performance, before seemingly recognising where it is and throttling back to unusable.
It is as though once it gets to a certain distance/separation/signal strength it somehow 'jams' the signal.
I really neeed to find a solution to this as 1. my office is one of the bad rooms and 2. I am often in hotels, airports etc and need reliable internet even in poor signal areas. Any help much appreciated.

Hey everyone, I just registered here and I couldn't find a solution. Apologies if this has been covered already.
I received the Yoga 11s i5 as part of an internship and after keeping the package under wraps for a month or two, I decided to give it a go and start using it instead of my Microsoft Surface. Everything works smooth and I love it to bits - except for the WiFi.
I was able to connect a few times, but for the most part it just doesn't work. The WiFi icon in the bottom right corner displays the adapter icon with a little red x, and the Windows troubleshooter is unable to find a solution. I'm really not sure what the problem is because, so far, my connectivity problem is entirely random - several times, I was able to connect and use the WiFi regularly only to be greeted with the same problem next time I  start using the computer. The troubleshooter once displayed an error message amongst the lines of "The network adapter is experiencing hardware/software difficulties".
I don't know if it is worth mentioning that I live on a college campus with a dodgy wifi connection, but every other device I ever used is working properly. Any suggestions? Only thing I did try so far is refreshing the system and reinstalling Windows but, to no avail.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Lenovo Yoga 11s SSD and RAM Upgrade - Great Results

Picked up a Lenovo Yoga 11s from Best Buy.  I chose Best Buy for price, color, and processor.  They had a slightly better deal than Lenovo.com.  The clementine color looks great.  Quality is great.  I'm very happy with the purchase.  It has the i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD.
I upgraded the SSD and RAM and found the upgrade relatively easy.  Here is a basic step by step and results.  (note the parts I chose increased the cost by close to $400.  I chose these parts based on quality, performance, and power usage.  There are cheaper alternatives, but I wanted an upgrade and money was not my concern.)
    Upgraded Parts
RAM - Patriot Memory 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHZ CL11 1.35V - Purchased at Newegg, but could have saved a couple dollars on Amazon.
I chose this part based on previous experience with Patriot and the low voltage RAM.  A lot of the RAM is higher voltage and I wanted to make sure I reduced heat and power usage.  When you look for 1.35V RAM, there are not a lot of options...
MSata SSD Drive - Intel SSD 525 Series 240GB Drive
    Intel SSD Page
    I purchased through Newegg
I chose the Intel drive based on previous experience with Intel.  They cost more, but I've found their performance to be good and reliability good.  There is also a good review on this drive on Tomshardware Tomshardware Intel 525 Review.  Toms review shows top performing drive and low power.  I also looked at many other manufacturers and Intel had the lower power consumption.  This means less heat and longer battery life.
    Cloning Software
Intel provides a free cloning software from Acronis
My Digital SSD MSata external case
    I purchased through Newegg.
Nice quality device.  I used this to help in cloning the OEM SSD to the new Intel drive.
    T5 Torx Screw Driver
I purchased this from Home Depot T5 Torx Home Depot
I read all the reviews, posts and issues around cloning the Win8 SSD drives.  Many people have/had issues.  I was prepared for problems.  Another reason I chose Intel, as they have migration software that I felt would be top notch.
You need to have the Hardware Manual handy.  I read how to remove keyboard and top cover.  This is required to upgrade RAM and SSD.  It was very easy.  Take your time.  Note, this is very different than the Yoga 13 youtube video for part removal.  I think it's easier.  Here is the link to download manual Yoga 11s Hardware Manual.
    How to clone your SSD
I expect if you're doing this project you can learn how to use the Intel software for cloning.  Read the web, watch their youtube video.  Read the manual...
Remove your factory SSD and insert new Intel SSD (note, you must insert Intel drive in notebook for cloning.  Do not try and clone on the USB external drive.  Intel software will not detect drive properly).  Create a bootable version of the Intel software on a USB drive.  Install your factory OEM SSD in the external MSata SSD drive.  Go to BIOS and set boot to support legacy, no fast boot, boot to USB.
Boot to the Intel Acronis app on the USB drive.  Then connect your OEM SSD via second USB port.
Then follow the wizard on Intel's software.  Cloning process took less than 5 minutes.
Unplug your USB devices, go to BIOS and set all all your boot settings back to factory UEFI, fast boot etc.
The PC booted to windows second try.  The first time it said it has issues and went through a process to repair.  It then said it failed.  I rebooted again and it went straight to windows.  Did all my windows updates and everything is fine.
    Performance
    Windows Performance Improvement
Memory - Factory score was 5.9 - Patriot Memory is 8.2 *** Nice Improvement
Hard Drive - Factory score was 6.2 - Intel 525 Drive is 8.2 *** Nice Improvement
This pc is crazy fast booting and shutting down.  It boots in 7 seconds.  Not sure it's really faster than OEM, but I've never seen a pc boot this fast.
Over all performance is fast.  I installed Office 2010 pro from a USB drive in under 5 minutes.  Web browsing is crazy fast.  I'm super impressed with the speed of this pc.  Much faster than I expected.
Size, Shape, Weight, color is great.  Performance is great.  Happy with upgrades and quality of parts.  May be my best notebook purchase to date.  I don't have any battery life numbers to report yet.  Everything is new and I haven't really spent much time off the charger.
Issues I've experienced during this upgrade of parts
I first tried to clone the SSD drive by putting the Intel drive in the USB enclosure first.  The intel software would not work as the PC detects the external SSD drive as a SCSI drive and Intel cloning software could not identify the drive as an Intel Sata drive.  I called Intel and they had no advice or help.  I also tried a few other cloning softwares that ultimately did not work.  As a last resort I switched the drives and everything worked great.  Lesson learned, swap the drives first and use Intel software to clone.
Factory restore - doesn't work.  Not sure why the factory restore is not working on my new Intel drive.  Windows works great!  All the partitions are there.  I suspect I messed up the OEM restore portion of the drive.  At one point I thought I had booted to the Intel drive, and tried the restore (I had about 7 failed cloning tries before the final one worked as I outlined above).  It went through the restore process and then failed.  However, what I later found was that I had actually booted to the OEM drive in the external USB case and I may have corrupted the restore functionality.
I contacted Lenovo Support and explained I could not restore using the 1 key restore.  They walked me through some basic troubleshooting and then opted to mail me factory restore disk.  I have the disk and will keep them available for when/if I ever need to restore.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I upgraded from the Yoga 13 to the 11S and am happy to report that the machines are so identical that apparently you can just yank the SSD from one and drop it in the other. I had upgraded my 13" to 240gB SSD + 8gB RAM and simply plopped the two components into the 11S and after about 30 seconds of Windows alerting me that it was 'setting up devices' the machine booted normally and has been working perfectly since!

  • Trying to create dual boot with Windows 7 on Yoga 11s

I was trying to install Windows 2008 server (I said Windows 7 in the title because it's essentially the same) on a Yoga 11s in dual boot configuration with the factory-installed  Windows 8 upgraded to 8.1, and as expected it's a pain in the butt.
I ran into the catch-22 that you can only boot from a USB external optical drive in legacy mode, and then Windows refuses to install on a GPT-type partition.  Dead end there.
As plan B, I tried installing from my MSDN DVD from within Windows 8.1.  It chugged along for a while, but then hung after the second restart.  It reached a state where the machine is dual boot, and goes into Windows 8.1 OK, but 2008 server hangs on startup even in safe mode.  Probably it's a driver problem.  I downloaded all Windows 7 drivers for the Yoga 11s from the Lenovo website, and they would work fine for 2008 server if there was a way to put them in place.
I have been through the process twice before on previous machines.  After getting the server OS to install, none of the devices work well or at all, but I could patiently install the drivers using device manager.  This is the first time where I can't get the server OS to install to a bootable condition.  Is it hopless, or might there be documentation somewhere about how I could manually place drivers in the right folders to enable the OS to start?
Plan C might be to follow Lenovo's instructions to create a UEFI bootable USB flash drive and try to install from that.  Would that work better than installing from within Windows 8.1, or just reach the same roadblock?

Reformat that new drive with SL DVD.
Go into SL DVD again, go to Utility Menu and choose DU.
Then try repairing the drive or better yet, just erase the drive (not the volume) and try again.
There are enough changes between Tiger partition scheme and SL that you would want to. RAID arrays built with Leopard will not allow installing SL, they have to be recreated (and can then have Leopard and SL).

  • Yoga 11s Recovery DVD

I have a big problem and hope you can help me!
I installed Windows 10 Tecnical Preview on my Yoga 11s for a try, but it's not ok yet.
So, when I tried to restore the factory settings (and Windows 8), I discovery that Windows Technical Preview replaced some
of the files needed for restoration.
I contacted Lenovo assistance from Brazil and they told me they could not send the restore DVD because I bought my Yoga in the USA.
My english is bad, I do not believe I can contact the technical assistance on USA by phone.
Is there any other way to ask then to send me this DVD, or a location where I can download it?
    Thanks.

  • Yoga 11S Won't Run Without Plugged into Charger

My webcam stopped working, so I opened up the laptop to check the connections. (I did this after making sure all the drivers were updated). At first, I checked the connection at the camera, above the screen. I made sure the cable was connected and then put the laptop back together, turned it on, and tested the webcam. Didn't work.
Next, I opened up the bottom part of the laptop. The camera connection was loose, so I fixed it. I then connected everything back together. At first, the laptop didn't turn on. Next, I tried the suggestion to remove the battery, hold the power button down for a minute, then connect the AC adaptor, and then the battery. Since the battery is not a "removeable battery," I did this by disconnecting all the cables coming from the battery. I was then able to turn on the laptop.
Now, the laptop will only stay on when plugged into the charger. It also seems that the battery isn't charging, even though it says "charging" when you click on the battery icon. I've quadruple checked that every wire was reconnected.
    Any suggestions?? Please help!

  • Yoga 11s touchpad cursor jumps after finger release

    Hi,
I have a problem with my yoga 11s touchpad on windows 8.1. Everytime I use the touchpad to point at something and then release the finger, the cursor jumps away. It does not jump far but it is enough to make me have to point again. I have the newest touchpad driver from the lenovo site installed. I tried all settings of this driver but it did not help.
Does anyone have the same problem or a solution for this problem?
    Thanks and kindly

  • Yoga 11s W8.1 Restart causes Blue Screen Of Death & Solution

After upgrade to Windows 8.1 (all the latest drivers) my Yoga 11s ends up in an endless "Blue Screen Of Death" when I select "Restart". This does not happen if I select "Shutdown" and then manually power on the Yoga 11s.
I found a solution to the problem: Disable "Fast Boot" in the BIOS.
If disabled the "Restart" takes longer but it work.
It seems to be a problem with drivers I guess.
    My question is:
    1) Do others have the same problem (or is it a HW defect)?
    2) Does Lenovo know about this problem and will better Windows 8.1 drivers be released?
    Thanks!

    Dear Druid99
    Welcome in lenovo community
Kindly be informed that the issue you currently facing is not related to the driver it's all about the compatibility between the machine the new upgraded windows . such all mentioned issues by yours always happened once the machine gets upgraded
in any way , please send us the BIOS version so that we can verify the issues more
