Yoga 11S WiFi issues

Hi all,
As with many I am experiencing severe Wifi issues with new Yoga 11s. I will try to explain in detail in the hope that someone who better understands how wifi really works might be able to help diagnose.
I have a Talktalk badged Huawei HG533 router. This delivers c.15Mbs reliably all around my house (2xTVs, computers up and downstairs, 2xphones). Using Speedtest.net to capture speeds.
With the Yoga, if I sit right next to the router (as I am now), I get 15Mbs. In other parts of the house I get just 0.5Mb, including rooms where other devices are measured at 15. I have updated drivers and upgraded to W8.1 though I experienced exactly the same problem before the upgrade.
I have tested every room and it seems that it will either work at very close to the maximum (in a few rooms) or drops off catastrophically to 0.5mb or less. There is no in between. I never lose connection altogether. There seems no correalation between the level of signal displayed (4 or 5 bars) and the speed. The 'good' rooms are separated by fewer walls.
I have also observed that on occasion having tested in a good room and then moving to one of the bad rooms it initially shows good performance, before seemingly recognising where it is and throttling back to unusable.
It is as though once it gets to a certain distance/separation/signal strength it somehow 'jams' the signal.
I really neeed to find a solution to this as 1. my office is one of the bad rooms and 2. I am often in hotels, airports etc and need reliable internet even in poor signal areas. Any help much appreciated.

Hey everyone, I just registered here and I couldn't find a solution. Apologies if this has been covered already.
I received the Yoga 11s i5 as part of an internship and after keeping the package under wraps for a month or two, I decided to give it a go and start using it instead of my Microsoft Surface. Everything works smooth and I love it to bits - except for the WiFi.
I was able to connect a few times, but for the most part it just doesn't work. The WiFi icon in the bottom right corner displays the adapter icon with a little red x, and the Windows troubleshooter is unable to find a solution. I'm really not sure what the problem is because, so far, my connectivity problem is entirely random - several times, I was able to connect and use the WiFi regularly only to be greeted with the same problem next time I  start using the computer. The troubleshooter once displayed an error message amongst the lines of "The network adapter is experiencing hardware/software difficulties".
I don't know if it is worth mentioning that I live on a college campus with a dodgy wifi connection, but every other device I ever used is working properly. Any suggestions? Only thing I did try so far is refreshing the system and reinstalling Windows but, to no avail.
Thanks in advance!

  • Yoga 13 - Wifi Issue with Verizon FIOS Advanced Router

In an effort to boost the Internet Speed for my wireless devices in my house I upgraded my Verizon FIOS router to their Advanced Router. I had noticed that all of my Wireless Devices were unable to get any more speed than 25/25, when I get 75/35 to my home. I discovered that my router was the issue. So I upgraded and was instantly able to reconnect all of my wireless devices and laptops without any issue, except my Lenovo Yoga 13. It kept getting an error that it could not login to the SSID I would give it. It would see it, but when I put in the password it would fail to connect andd give me a message indicating the same. So I thought I may need to download a newer driver. The Yoga would still attach to my hotspot, so I downloaded the latest WLAN driver. It still would not work, but I notced that it did not dump the old driver, so I deleted it and then I could not attach at all to anything. So I used another unit downloaded all off the WIreless and Bluetooth drivers I could find on the Lenovo site for Windows 8.1 and loaded them back up. I am now able to login to my new router but I get worse speeds than I did before. Now I get 10/20. But I also saw that there are now a bunch of bluetooth and wireless drivers in loaded in control panel, so before I delete any, do I need them all? Are they stepping on each other? What ones are definitely needed? Has anyone gotten anymore than 25/25 out of the Lenovo drivers? And did they ever succeed in hooking it up to a Verizon FIOS Advanced Router?
    Let me know!
    Thanks!

I went into the router and set a static IP address for the ipad (in the low 200's dont use the 100's its for your fios cable dvr's). You will first have to shutdown the ipad (not just sleep). Then delete the ipad from the connection list in the fios router. The instructions from the fios router pdf are below. I am on 24 hrs and even with wep and no fixed channel I have had no problems.
To define a new connection with a fixed IP address:
    1. Click New Static Connection in the DHCP Connections screen. The “DHCP Connection Settings” screen appears.
    2. Enter a host name for this connection.
    3. Enter the fixed IP address to assign to the computer.
    4. Enter the MAC address of the computer’s network card.
    5. Click the OK to save changes.
☞ Note: A device’s fixed IP address is actually assigned to the specific
network card’s MAC address installed on the network computer.
If this network card is replaced, the device’s entry in the DHCP Connections list must be updated with the new network card’s MAC address.
To remove a host from the table, click the appropriate “Delete” icon in the Action column.

  • Yoga 11s Slow Wifi with RTL8723au

    Hello!
I noticed that my wifi is really slow on my Yoga 11s.  It has a Realtek RTL8723au and I have a Hitron CGN3 router.
At first, I was only getting a connection speed of 54Mbps with actual transfer speeds of around 20Mbps over my home network.
After messing around with some settings (such as enabling EnableAdaptivity), it was able to boost the connection speed to 72Mbps and actual transfer speeds to around 40Mbps.
It is still really slow though.
Any idea/thoughts on how to fix this?
I have the latest drivers from the lenovo support website.
    Thanks!

Well a little more research and it turns out the driver was taking long to enable and disable because I had a MicroSD adapter without an sdcard inserted in it inside the card reader.  Took out the adapter and it's working correctly now.  If I have an actual MicroSD card inside the adapter it also works correctly.
I was keeping the adapter inserted so I could use it quickly to manage my boat's GPS MicroSD and my Smartphone's MicroSD.  Guess I have to keep the adapter in my bag and leave the blank inside the slot when I'm not using it.

  • Yoga 11S upgrade to Windows 8.1 issue

My YOGA 11 S came with Windows 8.0. I upgraded to Windows 8.0 Pro W - Media Center without an issue a few weeks ago. Today I have twice attempted to install the WIN 8.1 Upgrade from the Store. Both attempts failed and rolled it back to WIN 8 pro. It's a stock machine, no mods at all. Please let me know if any others are experiencing issues.
Both times the error info were reportedly sent to MS.

Found this link for a conexant driver for another Lenovo device:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS037884
Downloaded and installed it on my yoga 11s, now with 8.1 pro.    After download and install, a restart was required.  After that, the conexant HD audio and Dolby Digital Plus Home theater returned to my list of programs.  Windows Media player worked with video and audio.  Flash player worked using WatchESPN.com.  Seems to have fixed one of my 2 errors.

  • Yoga 11s broken key...where can I get a new one...

Just bought a yoga 11s a few days ago, and just when i get all my software moved over, the screen +brightness key falls out. The little white tab inside is broken, and it falls out a lot now.
Aside from the single band wifi card, this laptop is beast. The broken key has me bummed out, i dont want to return it. Can I get a new key? Last I checked, the lenovo warenty service website kept giving me 'unable to connect to server' when i tried to use the warenty system.
    Any other alternative routes?

Hi calvindrews, welcome to the forums,
you can call the IdeaPad support number, have your model and serial numbers handy, and they should be able to easily resolve the issue for you.

  • Lenovo Yoga 11s SSD and RAM Upgrade - Great Results

Picked up a Lenovo Yoga 11s from Best Buy.  I chose Best Buy for price, color, and processor.  They had a slightly better deal than Lenovo.com.  The clementine color looks great.  Quality is great.  I'm very happy with the purchase.  It has the i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD.
I upgraded the SSD and RAM and found the upgrade relatively easy.  Here is a basic step by step and results.  (note the parts I chose increased the cost by close to $400.  I chose these parts based on quality, performance, and power usage.  There are cheaper alternatives, but I wanted an upgrade and money was not my concern.)
    Upgraded Parts
RAM - Patriot Memory 8GB PC3-12800 1600MHZ CL11 1.35V - Purchased at Newegg, but could have saved a couple dollars on Amazon.
I chose this part based on previous experience with Patriot and the low voltage RAM.  A lot of the RAM is higher voltage and I wanted to make sure I reduced heat and power usage.  When you look for 1.35V RAM, there are not a lot of options...
MSata SSD Drive - Intel SSD 525 Series 240GB Drive
    Intel SSD Page
    I purchased through Newegg
I chose the Intel drive based on previous experience with Intel.  They cost more, but I've found their performance to be good and reliability good.  There is also a good review on this drive on Tomshardware Tomshardware Intel 525 Review.  Toms review shows top performing drive and low power.  I also looked at many other manufacturers and Intel had the lower power consumption.  This means less heat and longer battery life.
    Cloning Software
Intel provides a free cloning software from Acronis
My Digital SSD MSata external case
    I purchased through Newegg.
Nice quality device.  I used this to help in cloning the OEM SSD to the new Intel drive.
    T5 Torx Screw Driver
I purchased this from Home Depot T5 Torx Home Depot
I read all the reviews, posts and issues around cloning the Win8 SSD drives.  Many people have/had issues.  I was prepared for problems.  Another reason I chose Intel, as they have migration software that I felt would be top notch.
You need to have the Hardware Manual handy.  I read how to remove keyboard and top cover.  This is required to upgrade RAM and SSD.  It was very easy.  Take your time.  Note, this is very different than the Yoga 13 youtube video for part removal.  I think it's easier.  Here is the link to download manual Yoga 11s Hardware Manual.
    How to clone your SSD
I expect if you're doing this project you can learn how to use the Intel software for cloning.  Read the web, watch their youtube video.  Read the manual...
Remove your factory SSD and insert new Intel SSD (note, you must insert Intel drive in notebook for cloning.  Do not try and clone on the USB external drive.  Intel software will not detect drive properly).  Create a bootable version of the Intel software on a USB drive.  Install your factory OEM SSD in the external MSata SSD drive.  Go to BIOS and set boot to support legacy, no fast boot, boot to USB.
Boot to the Intel Acronis app on the USB drive.  Then connect your OEM SSD via second USB port.
Then follow the wizard on Intel's software.  Cloning process took less than 5 minutes.
Unplug your USB devices, go to BIOS and set all all your boot settings back to factory UEFI, fast boot etc.
The PC booted to windows second try.  The first time it said it has issues and went through a process to repair.  It then said it failed.  I rebooted again and it went straight to windows.  Did all my windows updates and everything is fine.
    Performance
    Windows Performance Improvement
Memory - Factory score was 5.9 - Patriot Memory is 8.2 *** Nice Improvement
Hard Drive - Factory score was 6.2 - Intel 525 Drive is 8.2 *** Nice Improvement
This pc is crazy fast booting and shutting down.  It boots in 7 seconds.  Not sure it's really faster than OEM, but I've never seen a pc boot this fast.
Over all performance is fast.  I installed Office 2010 pro from a USB drive in under 5 minutes.  Web browsing is crazy fast.  I'm super impressed with the speed of this pc.  Much faster than I expected.
Size, Shape, Weight, color is great.  Performance is great.  Happy with upgrades and quality of parts.  May be my best notebook purchase to date.  I don't have any battery life numbers to report yet.  Everything is new and I haven't really spent much time off the charger.
Issues I've experienced during this upgrade of parts
I first tried to clone the SSD drive by putting the Intel drive in the USB enclosure first.  The intel software would not work as the PC detects the external SSD drive as a SCSI drive and Intel cloning software could not identify the drive as an Intel Sata drive.  I called Intel and they had no advice or help.  I also tried a few other cloning softwares that ultimately did not work.  As a last resort I switched the drives and everything worked great.  Lesson learned, swap the drives first and use Intel software to clone.
Factory restore - doesn't work.  Not sure why the factory restore is not working on my new Intel drive.  Windows works great!  All the partitions are there.  I suspect I messed up the OEM restore portion of the drive.  At one point I thought I had booted to the Intel drive, and tried the restore (I had about 7 failed cloning tries before the final one worked as I outlined above).  It went through the restore process and then failed.  However, what I later found was that I had actually booted to the OEM drive in the external USB case and I may have corrupted the restore functionality.
I contacted Lenovo Support and explained I could not restore using the 1 key restore.  They walked me through some basic troubleshooting and then opted to mail me factory restore disk.  I have the disk and will keep them available for when/if I ever need to restore.
    Solved!

I upgraded from the Yoga 13 to the 11S and am happy to report that the machines are so identical that apparently you can just yank the SSD from one and drop it in the other. I had upgraded my 13" to 240gB SSD + 8gB RAM and simply plopped the two components into the 11S and after about 30 seconds of Windows alerting me that it was 'setting up devices' the machine booted normally and has been working perfectly since!

  • Lenovo Yoga 13 WIFI Problem - making sense of the problem

    Hi Lenovo
For the past 3 days i have been doing some research and observations in order to try to make sense of this wifi issue and maybe someone will come up with a solution.
    Lets start
First of all i assume that when this laptop was being developed some form of testing was done before it was released, so the wifi must have worked well within lenovo offices.
Also not everyone is having this issue - some people claim no problems at all, whilst others whathever they try they can't seem to be able to fix it.  Some even send their laptop for repair, other even had it replaced, yet the problem still persisted.
So the problem seems to be related to one factor - the router people are using.
Some people have a router that works well with this laptop, and so have no issue.
Other have a router that is "not compatible" with the wifi card and so no matter how many lenovo yoga 13 machines they have it will still not work.
I also noticed in my situation that when i use my android phone or tablet as wifi hotspot i have no issues, yet when i use my home router its a nightmare.
    Also i noticed that chaging the way how the laptop connects to the router can make a difference;
1, At first i used a fixed IP with alternate configuration - this was horrible (continous disconnection, routers wifi crashing, takes ages to connect)
2, Then i used fixed ip in the general configuration - ths was better, yet still problems (yet disconnections were less, yet still took long to connect and at times router's wifi crashed)
3, Dynamic Ip - this is the best configuration - connects quickly, does not disconnect, yet internet connection slow and at times routers wifi crashes.
So i think its a question of compatablity with the wifi network you are using.
Also based on this i do not think this is a hardware issue - since hardware problems tend to be all or nothing - whilst in this case if one connects to a "compatable" router the connection is good.
So this is a driver issue and thus if lenovo puts some effort in this - it can be fixed - yet this doesn't seem to be the case unfortunately.
What can help from our side if everyone posts the routers and connection settings (e.g. static ip, dynamic ip etc) they are using and stating whether their wifi is working or not.
Maybe we can close down on the problem and find a fix asap.
Let me start with my configuration.
Samsung galaxy s2 and samsung note 10.1 - wifi tetharing - works fine
Belkin Pre-N router with dynamic ip and wpa2 password - problems
    Ken

I had the same problem.  I came across someon that found a fix.  My Yoga is restoring right now (I tried windows 8.1, it didnt work outwell) so I can't tell you the exact steps but it goes something like this.
    1.) right click my computer
    2.) click properties
    3.) Device Manager
4.) open properties of WiFi device (under network adapter)
    5.) Go to Advance
6.) there is an option to use use either 20_40w or 20w under one of the energy/power related options in this list.
(This is part I can't remember off the top of my head) - Turn to 20w instead of the variable rate.
6.) Change the Bandwith option from 20_40w to 20w.
5.) OK out till your at your desktop (might require Reboot, I dont remember)
That is how I kept my WiFi from destroying my Wireless networking in my house.  I was rebooting my WiFi network hourly before.

  • Cannot install Windows 8.1 Update on Lenovo Yoga 11s

    Hi guys,
Hope someone will be able to help me out from this never ending issue.
I have been trying to update my Yoga 11s to Windows 8.1 for the last 2 weeks, but it just doesn't work. It kees failing when it gets to "Applying Settings" and then reboots twice and eventually rolls back to the Windows 8 installed. I have tried everything I've read on the internet from disabling my BT to installing all the latest drivers to even installing from a clean boot of Windows 8, but NOTHING works.
Has anyone successfully made this upgrade? Any assisstance will be highly appreciated.
BTW my laptop is installed with Windows 8 Single Language and running BIOS version 77CN20WW (v1.06)
    Thanks

Thank you for your input.  I must say that I did have 8.1 installed and used it for about a month with no issues.  Then recently when I was installing an update for graphics I got the black screen as described.  I have since then not been able to install 8.1.  I will continue to look for a solution.  Thanks for your reply

    Dear aanelson03
    Welcome in lenovo community

  • Yoga 11s - WIDI/Miracast stopped working

WIDI or Miracast stopped working properly after I got my screen replaced by Lenovo warranty repair.
Prior to the repair, I had no issues with connecting to my smart TV (samsung UN55F6400)
I got the latest drivers for the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and RTL8723AU wireless adapter, but still no go.
    What happens:
I can add a new device and mirror my screen, but after I disconnect, the next time I try to connect it says "Tap to fix the connection", then I have to set it up again as a new connection.
It used to work flawlessly before so not sure what changed.
Anyone else have any issues or successes?
If it works for you, can you post your driver versions for the graphics and wireless adapter?

Looks like Lenovo should fix your laptop under warranty in Turkey. According to the Lenovo Support website this model is covered in Turkey. If you haven't already done this, go here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/contactus
Select Laptops - Yoga Series (last option at the bottom) - Yoga 11s
You will get a page with multiple options, click on International Warranty Services in the middle of the page. When you scroll down you will see Turkey listed there. This list changes for each model and is how Lenovo determines if your specific product can be serviced in a particular market. My specific laptop model has no countries showing there other than USA, no international warranty.
I suggest you escalate it on the phone and go as high up as needed.

I've been sent a video quick link via Media Silo I need to watch and make notes from. For some reason, I cannot maximise the video so it fills the IdeaPad screen.   The bottom half of it is off screen so I cannot ff or rw or use the slide to change position.
    Any suggestions most welcome.

  • Yoga 11S Won't Run Without Plugged into Charger

My webcam stopped working, so I opened up the laptop to check the connections. (I did this after making sure all the drivers were updated). At first, I checked the connection at the camera, above the screen. I made sure the cable was connected and then put the laptop back together, turned it on, and tested the webcam. Didn't work.
Next, I opened up the bottom part of the laptop. The camera connection was loose, so I fixed it. I then connected everything back together. At first, the laptop didn't turn on. Next, I tried the suggestion to remove the battery, hold the power button down for a minute, then connect the AC adaptor, and then the battery. Since the battery is not a "removeable battery," I did this by disconnecting all the cables coming from the battery. I was then able to turn on the laptop.
Now, the laptop will only stay on when plugged into the charger. It also seems that the battery isn't charging, even though it says "charging" when you click on the battery icon. I've quadruple checked that every wire was reconnected.
    Any suggestions?? Please help!

  • Yoga 11s touchpad cursor jumps after finger release

    Hi,
I have a problem with my yoga 11s touchpad on windows 8.1. Everytime I use the touchpad to point at something and then release the finger, the cursor jumps away. It does not jump far but it is enough to make me have to point again. I have the newest touchpad driver from the lenovo site installed. I tried all settings of this driver but it did not help.
Does anyone have the same problem or a solution for this problem?

  • Yoga 11s W8.1 Restart causes Blue Screen Of Death & Solution

After upgrade to Windows 8.1 (all the latest drivers) my Yoga 11s ends up in an endless "Blue Screen Of Death" when I select "Restart". This does not happen if I select "Shutdown" and then manually power on the Yoga 11s.
I found a solution to the problem: Disable "Fast Boot" in the BIOS.
If disabled the "Restart" takes longer but it work.
It seems to be a problem with drivers I guess.
    My question is:
    1) Do others have the same problem (or is it a HW defect)?
    2) Does Lenovo know about this problem and will better Windows 8.1 drivers be released?
    Thanks!

    Dear Druid99
    Welcome in lenovo community
Kindly be informed that the issue you currently facing is not related to the driver it's all about the compatibility between the machine the new upgraded windows . such all mentioned issues by yours always happened once the machine gets upgraded
in any way , please send us the BIOS version so that we can verify the issues more
