Yoga 13 Bluetooth Tethering Problem

I am having a problem with my new Yoga 13 when trying to tether my Samsung Galaxy S3 via Bluetooth.
I go to add a device in Settings.  The devices pair successfully, but the 'Offline' message immediately shows beneath the Phone in devices.
USB tething works fine.
Can anyone help please?

Hi All
Try the following steps which seem to have worked for me (Apologies for the numbering. It went wonky when I tried to past from a word doc):
Disconnect any existing Wi-Fi connections on your Yoga 13.You can do this from your standard Desktop (bottom right) Wi-Fi Signal strength icon:
Swipe from the right to open your Charms menu and select “Search”
Type in “Devices”
Select “Settings”
Select “Devices”
If your iPhone 5 already exists in the “Devices” list, REMOVE IT:
Highlight the list item
Select the small minus sign and confirm removal of the devic.
On your iPhone 5:
Make sure you have 3G on and functioning as normal
First make sure Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Personal Hotspot are turned off.
Then select and switch on your Personal Hotspot
You should be prompted to turn on Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth. Just turn them both on.
Keep your Personal Hotspot page open
Back on your Ideapad Yoga 13
Ensure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on:
Then open Charms menu again
                                                               i.      Search “Bluetooth”
                                                             ii.      Select “Settings”
                                                            iii.      Select “Add Bluetooth Device”
Your iPhone 5 should come up in the list of detected devices
                                                               i.      Select your iPhone 5
Open your standard desktop and select the small bars icon representing your wireless network connections.
Your iPhone 5 should now become available in the Wi-Fi list.
Connect as normal and you should be prompted for the Wi-Fi Password on your Personal Hotspot page on your iPhone 5.
Enter the password and that should get you up and running.
Best of luck
Claude

  • MacBook pro, snow leopard, iPhone and Bluetooth PAN problems

    Short Version:
I am having connectivity issues connecting my new MacBook Pro (MBP) to the Internet thru a Bluetooth PAN on my iPhone4. This has been working fine for a few days and then today it just stopped working responding that my iphone connection is not available, it's off, too far away or whatever. This is not the case. When I try to connect the iPhone to the MBP the iPhone is saying my MBP is not supported. I can pair the devices, but as soon as I try to connect to the Internet thru the iPhone via the MBP the connection fails.
    Long Version:
I received a shiny new MacBook Pro only a few days ago and I am having Bluetooth Paired networking issues as of today, 2nd, March, 2011. The MacBook Pro is running Snow Leopard 10.6.4, and is brand spanking new, unmodified, factory defaults.
The iPhone(s) I am using are iPhone 4's with iOS 4.1
On the first day I paired the MBP with both iPhones with ease, it was so easy my grandparents could have done it. So point and click and it just worked....
The iPhones are set up in iTunes with names similar to dave1 and dave2
On the MBP I can select which device I want to connect to the Internet by going to the Bluetooth icon and connecting to whichever iPhone I have handy at the time. Since the plans are limited connectivity, I do load share between the two.
Today, for no apparent reason, I have been unable to connect to my wife's phone just getting a basic "The Bluetooth network is unavailable" message telling me the iphone is out of range, not on, etc etc etc. Not true.
No problem, I just connected to my phone instead. Occasionally I tried her phone again, but it just never worked. I eventually got her to reboot it, still no joy.
Then, a couple of hours ago, while in the middle of reading my rss feeds, my Bluetooth connection dropped out. My phone is sitting right next to the MBP. So that's not the issue. No amount of reboots of either the MBP or the iPhone have fixed this. I have unpaired and repaired the devices (on both phones) countless times. I have removed the sim card and rebooted, I have disabled and reenabled Bluetooth on both, rebooting before doing this, and after and during, I have reset network settings. Nothing I try is working here.
Pairing alone is an event, but here's an example of what's happening:
I go thru the motions, the MBP shows me a number (eg, 451234) and the number is displayed on the iPhone. They see each other. The numbers are the same. Good. I click PAIR on the iPhone and MBP and everything appears good. But then if I go to connect to the iphone on the MBP I get the out of range error.
I have made both discoverable, and tried to connect to the MBP from the iphone, and got a different error message altogether: Connection Unsuccessful - "{insert my name}'s MacBook Pro" is not supported. W-T-F? It was an hour ago? What has changed?
Then, the only option on the iPhone is to "Forget Device". ok, forget it, and start again. Same same.
Neither the iPhones nor the MBP have been upgraded or changed in anyway today, or even recently. In fact, as mentioned earlier, I was actively using the connection without any issues for a number of hours when it just stopped for no apparent reason.
Not that these matter, but I am in Thailand (live here for the time being), I'm on the TrueMove network, which offers 3G coverage in my area (Patong Beach).
This could easily have been filed under MacBook Pro, iPhone, OSX and possibly many other discussion headings, because the issue can be any or all of the OS, the MacBook Pro Bluetooth adapter, the iPhone Bluetooth, (iOS for that matter), or some other unforeseen conditions...
My head is sore from pulling my hair out. I am open to any suggestions (reasonable or otherwise!)
For further info (not that this post is long enough already, or anything, but), I thought it was interesting that the phones didn't fail at the same time, so I pulled out an old iPhone 3GS and set it up, but after pairing, the two can still not connect.
I know its not an issue with the data plan on the iPhone since I'm here surfing now without an issue, so it's not a data problem.
    Open to ideas....
If you've read this far and you're ever in Phuket, give me a call... I'll shout you a beer

Ok, now I do wish I could edit....
I forgot to APPLY the network settings for the USB cable to work. Connected thru USB I can tether.
So, I kept playing, and playing some more...
I had previously unpaired everything, and gone as far as removing network devices HOWEVER...
I didn't remove the Ethernet, Firewire or Airport Network devices.
Now, I have done so. I REMOVED EVERYTHING
    No pairing, no network devices.
Bluetooth was already turned off, and I rebooted.
I turned off tethering and rebooted the iphone.
I turned on bluetooth (on the MBP), I turned on tethering. I browsed for the iphone. It said I was already paired???? Ok, repair AGAIN, and THE IPHONE SHOWED MY BLUETOOTH TETHERING BLUE BAR at the top of the screen!
I opened a web page, no go... d4mn, I was close...
Opened network preferences and the created a new bluetooth PAN and voila! Internet back on the MBP. I am about to reinstall the ethernet and airport (I can live without firewire for now) and see what happens.
Basically, the link I posted two posts ago, I had already done that, but I NEEDED to remove ethernet, firewire and airport as well...
So MAYBE it's fixed, we'll see for how long. I'm not going to mark this as answered for now, because basically, it has failed for no reason, and I want to know why...
Hopefully someone can come up with something, but having to delete and reinstall all pairings and network devices (to me) is not really a solution, it's a workaround (at best).

  • Bluetooth tethering no longer working - iPhone 3GS (iOS4.1) and Macbook Pro

    Hi all,
I don't understand why this is not working anymore. In the past I had successfully paired & used a bluetooth tethered connection between my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.4) & my iPhone 3GS (pre 4.1). The network connection was working and I was able to surf the web/use MSN etc. This is not a feature I have used in quite some time and for some reason now it is not working. I have done several upgrades on my phone since I last used it, currently on iOS 4.1.
Lets pretend I am starting from scratch and my Macbook & iPhone do not know each other, devices have been forgotten on both.
    - iPhone & Macbook both are on & discoverable
    - On Macbook Pro I select "Set Up Bluetooth Device"
    - Macbook scans and detects my iPhone, I select "Continue"
    - Macbook connects with iPhone & displays 6 digit pin, also pairing notification is shown on iPhone with the same 6 digit pin
    - I select "Continue" on Macbook & "Pair" on iPhone
    - Connection is made, iPhone is now listed on Macbook and vice versa
    - From bluetooth menu (on Macbook) in the iPhone device menu I select "Connect to Network". Error is displayed on Macbook "The bluetooth network is unavailable. There was a problem connecting to your device..." & on my iPhone an error "Connection Unsuccessful. Make sure iPhone is turned on and in range".
    - When I try to connect from the iPhone an error is displayed "Connection Unsuccessful. iPhone is not supported" with a button to Forget Device.
    What... the ****?
This has worked in the past without a hitch. Has something changed between say iOS 3.x and 4.1 that might cause this to no longer work for me.
    Any protips are greatly appreciated!

Don't feel like a noob, my settings changed after the last update without warning and I was having the same issue as you until I found your post that alerted me to the fact that my internet tethering might be off!
So for others out there that are having this issue to turn tethering on go to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering > On
Thank you!! I had already wasted over an hour repeatedly syncing and unsyncing my darn bluetooth connection.

  • Bluetooth connection problem

Using Jabra EASYCALL Bluetooth headset, but connection is working unreliable: Sometimes in the middle of the talk party is unable to hear me, I still could hear party. In this case party usually ends conversation, and then we do call again, and after re-call, party can hear you again, but at any time it could happen again.
Also sometime after pairing headset and phone phone is reporting that connected, but won't let use headset, still using phone mic/speaker. Sometimes it is enough to turn Bluetooth off/on on the phone, but sometimes I have to do this several times, optionally including headset on/off.
I'm pretty sure that this is Phone problem, because same headset is working flawlessly with older Xperia phone and also with many other phones and also.

    Hi,
I use Bluetooth for my build-in carkit (Toyota Corolla Verso from 2006), my MDEX remote for my hearing aids, my Smartwatch SW2 from Sony, my Samsung Tablet (Bluetooth Tethering) and my wife's Samsung smartphone (also Bluetooth Tethering as she has an unlimited data account :-)  ).
It all works great except for the MDEX: this device is no longer automatically connected when I switch it on, while before the update to 14.3.A.0.757, it was working great. Now I have to manually connect.
Phone calls over the Toyota carkit and MDEX (from WIDEX) works without any interruption (and my calls are long, some over one hour).
I suspect that it might be a compatibility issue between BT 4.1 from the Z1Compact and the Jabra headsets, something what was already the case for BT 1.0 etc. The specifications for the Headset and Handsfree Profiles within Bluetooth are being interpreted differently by various manufacturers. The SIG (the organisation which has to approve the products before a manufacturer is allowed to use the word "Bluetooth") seems to miss some flaws in the Bluetooth firmware from either Sony and/or Jabra.
For some years I had a living by testing Sony Ericsson Bluetooth products against competitor Bluetooth products and I can tell you: a lot of issues which never got solved in a good way.
Try to get your headset reflashed with the latest firmware, if all possible.
Otherwise, check the compatibility list for the Xperia Z1 Compact: here you see all Bluetooth headsets which have been tested against this phone.

  • Bluetooth Tethering w/ Vista

I'm having an issue getting my Bluetooth tethering setup with Vista. My USB tethering works perfectly fine. Pairing seems to work , the problem is when Vista is installing the iPhone/BT drivers. Vista can't seem to find any drivers for the "Bluetooth Peripheral Device". I have installed iTunes on this machine (my laptop, desktop is my main syncing machine) and that doesn't seem to fix anything.
    Suggestions?
(w/ Rogers in Canada for carrier)
    Thanks
    Sean

    hi there!
I have the same problem too. After trial and error, I managed to get tethering done with bluetooth. please do the following:
    1. make sure your iphone shows up under bluetooth devices in your vista computer. else, click add and make sure bluetooth is switched on, on both computer and iphone. go to the properties and make sure under the services tab, Wireless iAP is selected.
    2. ignore the message which shows that windows can't find drivers for bluetooth peripheral device. click the on the last option in the message.
    3. go to iphone --> settings --> network --> tethering and switch it on.
    4. go to network and sharing centre by right clicking on the network icon on the system tray.
    5. on the left panel, click on manage network connections.
    6. there should be a bluetooth network connection under personal area network. right click it and select view bluetooth network devices.
    7. there should be a network access point (your iphone in this case). click on the connect button.
this should work and your iphone's tethering would be activated (blue coloured panels at the top).
till a permanent solution is found, just use this go-around method!
    cheers!

  • 9780 and Playbook bluetooth connection problem

I have never experienced bluetooth connecting problems between my 9780 and Playbook 64 previously ... but for last few days I cannot connect them. I have deleted both devices and re-paired successfully. I have turned both fully off (removed 9780 battery) and still no connection.
I have tested both devices by successfully connecting each of them to other bluetooth devices. They just will not connect to each other for some reason.
The only change was the recent Playbook Software update.
I use the Bridge and Tethering all the time and so need Bluetooth to be working ... thanks for any assistance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

maybe you can uninstall then reinstall the Bridge app on your 9780.

  • Bluetooth tethering with Sprint is slowwwwww

Is this normal? I get fast speed on the mobile handset, but when bluetooth tethered with
the Mac...its super slow. I usually get like 700kbs on the handset, now im getting 100kbs the most.

I might have a solution for you, but its a crappy one.
I have the exact same problem with this phone and my new 17 Inch Macbook Pro.
What fixed it for me was using a Bluetooth Dongle instead of the built in Bluetooth. You need to add a second PAN connection in the Network Prefs and repair everything, but when you get it all configured correctly and use the Dongle instead of the built in Bluetooth, I bet it works flawlessly.
There is something wrong with how Apples newer Bluetooth hardware is interacting with this phone. I even went to an Apple Store and tested on another 17 inch Macbook to make sure it wasent just my computer. The older Macbooks worked fine, so its something in the newer hardware.
Call Apple, make them aware that this is an issue with all their newer stuff. Let them (and me) know if using an external bluetooth adapter fixed the issue for you.

Intel iMac; upgraded adobe flash; bluetooth keyboard no longer pairs but magic mouse still OK. With Bluetooth switched on the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink. Switch off Bluetooth and problem disappears and iMac works OK with plug-in keyboard and mouse

    Hi, Derek -
...the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink.
Sounds like Spaces is being activated somehow. With the wired keyboard and mouse in use, select the Exposé & Spaces control pane in System Preferences, click the choice in that pane for Spaces. See what the settings are. There are some activation settings in that pane - by default, F8 activates it.
It could be that the bluetooth keyboard has some stuck keys and is activating Spaces; or that the activation command has somehow been reset to something that the bluetooth mouse, or bluetooth itself, is triggering.

  • Mac Mini Bluetooth hardware problems ?

I own a Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo 1Gb bought last October, an Apple wireless keyboard and an Apple wireless mouse, both I formerly use without any problems with my old Powerbook G4. By now, I used them with my Mac Mini it worked perfectly fine. But since two or three weeks, I’ve got big Bluetooth connection problem. Randomly, after one or two hours of use, both keyboard and mouse loose connection and the Bluetooth symbol change itself into a strange one. I had a look on your site to learn the meaning of it and the symbol is see which is a Bluetooth symbol with a horizontal zebra means that no Bluetooth hardware can be found! Does my Mac Mini built-in Bluetooth card have problems?
Since I haven’t got any wired USB keyboard or mouse I have to reboot my Mac Mini quite roughly. Sometimes one reboot is enough to make the Bluetooth of Mac Mini to work again, sometimes not and I have to wait a little bit more (more than ten minutes). I can see it works again as the Bluetooth symbol is the right one again (the one with the dots).
It is very annoying. And I am a bit sad to have such problems with Apple stuff. Is there something I could do to avoid such a waste of time? Or shall I call Apple Care for fear it should be a hardware problem.
Of course, I use brand new batteries for both of them.

My mini is doing it as well. Just started doing 2-3 weeks ago. Logitech Denovo or Apple Bluetooth. Doesn't matter which. Loses it in about an hour or so. Al Keyboards and mice were purchased at about the same time as the core 2 duo mini, ~ last October.
Must power cycle the machine to get it back and it must be paired again. Very annoying. Can't remember if it coincides with an Apple update.
This mini has had the superdrive replaced twice, once within 6 weeks of purchase. Ever since Leopard, it's been close to the best media head. now this...
    Sigh.
(What makes it not the best? Frontrow doesn't sort titles correctly [1, 10, 2, 3 - wrong!], doesn't force mount aliases in the movies directory, doesn't put out 1080p without hacking. And I'd so love eyeTV integration with Frontrow. It'd be perfect then.)

  • Any Bluetooth audio problems since upgrading to ICS?

    Hi.
Was wondering if anyone has had any Bluetooth audio problems since upgrading to ICS?  In particular, have you had any stuttering and/or pauses in streaming since the upgrade?
I use a MW600 with my phone and I get stuttering and pauses every few minutes between the phone and the MW600 which is very annoying - to the point where I can't reliably use the phone for audio any more.
    Thanks
    Savcom

Sorry but it seems to be a problem some users are experiencing. It's already been reported so hopefully there will be a fix for this soon.

I'll post back a little later with some further comments about what I've observed of my (& other folks') difficulties and solutions with changing batteries and reconnecting, etc.

    Hang in there!

[1] Please note that having a backup "wired" mouse may be required to resolve Bluetooth connection problems. As the "How to Set Up..." article cited above says:"Use a Wired USB Keyboard and Mouse During Setup

During the setup process, you'll need to use a USB mouse before the Apple Wireless Mouse can work. Keep a USB mouse connected to the computer until you've completed setting up the Apple Wireless Mouse. After setup is complete, you can disconnect the USB mouse."
In my experience, a "wired" keyboard is only required when there's a connection problem for which using a startup keyboard shortcut is a critical troubleshooting tool.   (Some of the startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs are different.)

  • Bluetooth tethering and notification with iOS6

    Hi there,
I've tethering my iPad (former iOS 5.1.1) with bluetooth and it works like
    Wi-Fi tethering at all.
This week iOS 6.1.3 is out and I think it's time to upgrade,

After the update I found that I can't receive any push notification nor

Is this a iOS6 feature or bug?
