Yoga 13 - Mouse Flicker

Hi
After updated the network card driver the mouse arrow flikcers (loading circle) every 1-2 seconds.
Can anyone guide me how to resolve this as it is really bothersome
Ken

Hi SEAlaa
Thanks for your reply.
Yet i don't think that you option is a solutions reason being.
1, This problem started once i updated the wifi drivers - which i did in order to solve a serious problem with my wifi which is shared by a number of users.
2, Other users who updated the wifi problem also have the same problem - and some users have amanged to identify the process causing this
Here are some quotes from others in the forum regarding this - (see topic titel - yoga 13 wifi issues)
"Well I backed up my Yoga and bit the bullet and installed the June 6 WIFI and BT drivers from Lenovo's site. Other than the mouse flicker the Yoga seems OK so far. Good ping and speeds with hands on or off the keyboard rest
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2796899726.png
Fixed the mouse flicker by stopping RunSwUSB service.
Time will tell if I made a good move, I'm worried about travel where you connect to whatever Wifi router along the road."
"To stop the mouse from flickering when using the new WiFi Driver you need to disable the RunSwUSB Service. From the Start screen type services and press Enter. Scroll down to find the service, right-click it and select stop - then right-click again and select disable. Lenovo hasn't told us what the service is for, but if you encounter problems then you may always enable it again."
"It seems the new driver installation package installs some 'amazing' little DOS-like TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) application as a Service!!! maybe in order to wake up the USB connector every two second or so ??. Among other things, It makes the mousepointer flicker with wait mode.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/18914621/Yoga/runSW.PNG
The programme file is called runSW.exe and the affiliate service is RunSwUSB.exe. You can find it by running Task Manager / Processes tab. The files reside in the Windows folder, together with a logfile.
If it was not so tragic, I find it somewhat hillarious that Lenovo / Realtek has to invoke such crude tactics / methods.
BTW as somebody else mentioned, the new driver improves on Bluetooth. at least now I can stream to my BT speaker without being interrupted by power saving features from the BT mouse.
For WiFi it's too early to say, but I think I do see some improvement in stability / transfer rates BUT also new problems with the driver not initialising properly from startup.
I am frustrated and would like to know exactly what is the intention of Lenovo by introducing such garbage ---Nine and others from Lenovo!! Please explain!!!"
Your solutions will solve none of my problems.
The solution for this issue is that lenovo engineers look at this problem and fix the latest driver - by removing the running process and also fixing the wifi issue

• Mouse flicker outside of browser

Hello
Whenever I hide the mouse pointer to replace it with custom made graphic, it causes curors to flicker rapdily outside of the browser window.
When you type or move across URL bar, or try to scale the browser window by dragging its corner, the mouse pointer goes crazy.
I use:
stage.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, myFunction);
function myFunction(e:Event):void {
if(myMc.visible == true){
                    Mouse.hide();
} else {
                    Mouse.show();
Any idea what could cause it and how to get rid of it? It's driving me crazy. I tried to search the forum but I end up with 2001 posts, not related to my issue.
Usually basic button HIT area.
Any feedback, greatly appreciated
cheers

A quick solution I guess would be to draw a large graphic the size of the stage in a background layer, make it invisible, and give it an instance name backgroundStage.
I'm by no means an expert, but this seems workable.
import flash.events.Event;
backgroundStage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, changeCursor);
function changeCursor(e:Event):void{
Mouse.hide();
//your custom cursor here;

• Yoga pro2 mouse not working

I tried the function key combo,  reinstalled drivers and nothing.    The mouse came back up on, on its own for a few minutes. But now the mouse has been gone for two days.  No curser....    First the motherboard died and now this.
Issues that I've hade with machine sp far.
1) Yellows - Fixed
2) Horrible Wi-Fi  - Fixed
3) Unit died completely - Needed a new motherboard
4) Mouse stopped working. - Looking for resolution

• 2007 Mac Mini Won't Start

Hi All
I have a feeling the boards gone on this but I thought I'd run it past everyone.
Power the mac mini and no chime and no video but constant white light. Originally the fan came on an the cd that was still inside tried to spin and a wired mouse flicked it's red 'ball' light on briefly. There is no ethernet at this point (being that I plugged into a hub an no light displays on the hub).
Since then I have opened up the case I replace the internal battery and hard reset the smc with the switch on the board. I also removed the cd having to open the dvd drive up to get it out.
Try a boot and again we get a constant light no chime and no video. Although the fan has now stopped running.
seems like a boot rom issues for what I can gather and I don't know if these issues can be repaired save buying a motherboard. Or why the boot rom (if that's what it is) would just die.
Incidentally after the above I did remove the ram and the hd/dvd and power on to get the power light to flash which tells me the board manages to test for ram.
Just wondered if there was anything I could try before the BIN
Cheers
Steve

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

• Most versatile IDE with multiple language support IYO ?

Im trying to gauge which IDE would be best for coding a variety of languages (C/C++, Python, Java...). I'd ideally like something with plugin support, so that you can extend its functionality as desired, and write your own add-ons should the need arise. It'd be great if there was inbuilt support for less common languages such as OCAML, and for more recent languages like Ruby.
I've been using a solely CLI-based setup for 6 months now, with firefox being the only gui app I've used (coding: vim, IM: centericq, IRC: weechat, Music: mpd). I converted to that setup thinking that it would boost my efficiency, since Ratpoison with GNU Screen makes every mouse action replaceable with a keyboard combo. Recently though, I've been frustrated at certain limitations of Ratpoison, and while I have gained speed with some of its features, I've lost speed with others.
The gist of this is that I'm going to go back to Openbox with the expose-like Skippy, and the Mac OS Dock-like yab (via adesklets). I'll miss the versatility of using nought but the terminal, but it sure will be a breath of fresh air to seem some aesthetically pleasing interfaces, lol
Ive looked at what IDEs are on offer, and the most interesting ones are jEdit (perhaps you'd like to convince me Dusty? ), Eclipse (which I've used for Java and Python, and I like it, but it's so fat! lol) and PIDA (not used and can't find screenshots - the ones on the Berlios project page for it won't display: they say I'm unauthorized for access). I'd love to hear any feedback from people who've used any of these development environments and wish to sing their praises, or point out any flaws. Similarly, it'd be great to hear of any other software that Archers have used and found to be productive.
Any offers?

I already wrote this, but it disappeared... weird.
I don't hate Vim by any means; I think it's a very impressive piece of software, and very efficient in terms of speed. But I'm no longer of the school of thought who consider mouse-usage alone to be the most efficiest interface, or the opposing school of thought that consider just using keyboard combos is the way forward.
I used to think the latter, but after using ratpoison and CLI apps for so long, I've changed my mind. It is very fast to use the keyboard for coding - keyboard shortcuts for auto-completion, indentation etc, very handy. But what if you want to traverse a tree of modules you're working on, looking at separate, random pieces of code you've written in different files. It's a lot faster to just click on whatever module/interface/whatever you want to see the code of, rather than manually scrolling up or down said tree.
Also, for something as simple as scrolling page contents, I prefer to use a mouse. it feels more pleasant than using the keyboard, and it's faster when using the mousewheel. If there's a particular chunk of code on the page that you want to see in the centre of the window, with the keyboard you'd first use the page up/down shortcut to get near the desired area (which has a limited speed), and then you have to manually shift the page up or down by a few lines to get bang on whatever you wish to see. Using a mouse to do the same thing is much quicker. The same argument applies for copy-and-paste.
Some things in Ratpoison are very fast, like being able to launch applications via easily-customizable keyboard shortcuts. But other things, like window resizing (or rather, frame resizing in Ratpoison ) are very slow. True, you can set pre-defined frame layouts, and also resize frames with key combos... but I hate the inflexibility of this. Frame resizing via the keyboard is so slow; it's something you could do in a second or less using a mouse; the same with moving windows around - a simple action to perform via the mouse, yet in Ratpoison moving frames around is difficult, and moving windows around involves combinations of swapping frame contents, tabbing through available windows, or looking to see what number the window you want is, and THEN switching to it by number. This is slow IMO.
Don't get me wrong, I still think Ratpoison is really good, and completely achieves what it's going for - the easy-to-use Screen-esque WM - but as I say, I just feel that a keyboard-mouse combo is the way forward.
Some people may say that it's better to use CLI-only apps for SSHing, since if you've got a low speed connection, they're the best. But most businesses, colleges, schools and homes where you work/study and need to use SSH have broadband now, so as long as you set up X forwarding, which is a simple task, then you can use your gui apps anywhere you want.
I will never dislike Vim (or Emacs for that matter; both have pros and cons), I do not consider them to be archaic or unwieldy because they're CLI apps (ignoring their X counterparts); I simply feel that a combination of their do-it-by-the-numbers keyboard combos with the flexible-as-a-yoga-teacher mouse is an all-round safer (and faster) bet.
Anyway, I don't want to go too far off topic - I'm just trying to explain why I wish to return to gui-land after being in cli-territory for so long. I'd be grateful if people would mostly ignore this post, and respond to my first post by sharing information and opinions on other IDEs (although I welcome your opinions on what I've just said, Phrakture, since you're the longest Ratpoison/Screen user I know of, and it's clearly worked for you ).
I'd really like to hear from Dusty, if he reads this... I know he's working on Magnum (I *think*, anyway) and uses or did use JEdit, so I'd like to hear what he likes about them compared to vim etc.
Anyone who's got an IDE suggestion or opinion is most welcome to respond

• REALLY stop Shockwave Flash plugin INSTANTLY; Mission:Impossible

I was VERY happy using Firefox 20 and killing the Shockwave Flash plugin using the provided button in the Add-Ons dialog to get rid of the cursor flickering (that happens after viewing certain sites) and drives me mad. I simply stopped and started it immediately, problem solved.
NOW: Firefox 25 decided that they I cannot stop the *** plugin anymore, instead there's a useless "Never load, ask on load, ask everytime time" select with USELESS OPTIONS: NONE of these actually STOP THE PLUGIN: THE CURSOR REMAINS FLICKERING IN ALL SITES UNTIL I CLOSE FIREFOX. This drives me MAD, I CANNOT be restarting firefox everytime the damn plugin stars the cursor flickering (appearing and disappearing quickly, constantly, on the ENTIRE browser). I'm moving back to Firefox 20 if the STOP PLUGIN button is not added REALLY SOON.
STAFF: YOU *MUST* RESTORE THE STOP PLUGIN BUTTONS *URGENTLY*. Leave all the useless crap of options there, but ADD THE STOP BUTTON. Shockwave Flash has this mouse flicker issue since I can remember, even in the good old Firefox 3.6.
Flash was not fixed and it will never be fixed, no matter how many ridiculous updates are released by Adobe: The Flash plugin was, is and will be a headache for the rest of our life times. Stopping the plugin is the ONLY solution, and someone had the GREAT idea to remove this feature. Congratulations for screwing up something that worked perfectly!!

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

I just installed Arch, and I like it a lot so far, but the touch screen on my Lenovo Yoga 2 11" is being recognized as a mouse. It can't recognize multitouch gestures (like with touchegg), and I see a pointer whenever I touch the screen. Here's what `xinput list` returns:

I should add that the touch screen works fine on Fedora and Ubuntu, but not on Arch, so it's definitely not a hardware issue.

I have a simiar device -- a Flex 2 15 -- but the solution should be similar: you need to set your touchscreen driver to absolute mode.  There is probably a synaptics or wacom config file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d.  In that file, add the following line:
Option "Mode" "ABSOLUTE"
This is what the relevant section looks like:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchscreen"
Driver "wacom"
MatchIsTouchscreen "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event1"
Option "Mode" "ABSOLUTE"
Option "TapButton1" "1"
Option "TapButton2" "2"
Option "TapButton3" "3"
Option "Evdev Wheel Emulation" "on"

Option "HorizTwoFingerScroll" "on"
Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinZ" "40"
Option "EmulateTwoFingerMinW" "8"
Option "CoastingSpeed" "0"
Option "VertScrollDelta" "50"
Option "HorizScrollDelta" "50"
Option "ZoomDistance" "100"
Naturally, you'll want to change the device path and adjust the elements to your liking.

• Yoga S1 keyboard and mouse inactive

I have a Yoga S1 and am finding that they keyboard and touchpad mouse frequenclty disables after boot up or after folding back the screen.  No response at all from key press or mouse so only option I have is to use the touch screen to reboot the machine.  Sometimes I even have to boot it twice to get it ro recognise the keyboard.  It seems as though the disable option necessary when the screen is folded back is somehow activating when it shouldnt.
Not convenient at all as you can imagine and also somewhat embarassing when in front of clients (and I am an IT Consultant!)
Updated all drives to latest of course.
Any thoughts please?
Steve

I have the exact same problem on some of my Yoga's here in my clinic. It seems the only people that have problems are those who change the modes (laptop to tent/tablet etc). All our OS's have been downgraded to Windows 7 and all drivers updated. Many of the screen orientations will not change and the Windows 7 driver that allows for orientations has been installed multiple times. Only resolution is to reboot the computer but it will happen again.

• Mouse cursor flicker (over links)

When moving over links, the mouse cursor very quickly flickers when changing from the arrow to hand pointer.
I've uploaded a slow-mo clip http://youtu.be/ZNQ0D84DdF4 which best demonstrates exactly what's happening.  I had to film using a camera as the screen recorder was not quick enough capture the flicker.
This happens in all browsers and even the App Store app.

Another update, I have a software fix - by editing the info.plist file for the pointinghand cursor to alter the x/y positions.
System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HI Services.framework/Versions/A/Resources/cursors/pointinghand/info.plist
I made changes to hoty, hoty-scaled, hotx and hotx-scaled and after some trial and error managed to get rid of the flicker and still have the hand cursor appear in the correct place on rollover/out
values i used are :
hoty 6
hoty-scaled 10
hotx 8
hotx-scaled 12
I used xcode to edit the plist file, then a restart for the changes to take effect.

• Unusual flash issue. Flash causes mouse to flicker then freezes on all browsers.

I've reinstalled flash, cleared settings, cleared cache, checked on another user account, etc. All was working fine before I did a new SSD install. I copied the older hard drive to the SSD and everything else seems fine.
When loading a page with flash on it, if its simple flash it may run but not allow you to scroll. If it is more complex like a video it freezes up, the mouse might disappear or flicker alot while this is happening.
Other current issues include that the screenshot and grab program does not work. And some screen savers said they could not work on this version of OS X (I'm running 10.6.8)
Thoughts? Could it be the graphic card even though it was working fine before?
Thanks so much in advance

Thanks, again!
I ran the Repair Permissions.  Though it found a bunch of stuff to repair, sadly, it doesn't seem to have fixed this issue. Oddly enough, if I run the repair permissions twice in a row, it states that it's repairing the same stuff... is that normal? Lots of Java, Remote Desktop and Flash things were listed.  Along with a warning about not being able to repair a change made to... ADUI (I think).
I must have been mistaken about it not being an issue under the other log in, as well.  After I fixed the permissions and resarted, I tested Chrome under my normal login resulting with the same issue. I then logged off, and changed to the "Test" login,  went to watch the same Hulu video under that test log in on Chrome, and it happened again.  I thought, "Maybe it's just Chrome, now," and tested that same video under the Test Log in on Firefox and had the same result.
I don't understand why it only happens with some videos... catches me off guard and shuts off the computer before I can stop it.  Yesterday, when I restarted after the surprise shut-off, it didn't want to recognize my USB keyboard, and I had to take off the USB extention cable, plugging the keyboard directly into the port in back of the computer to get it recognized.  Today, after I shut off all the browsers, and put it to sleep for a while, when woken up, it didn't want to connect to Wi-Fi, and then didn't want to complete the shut down process...
Any thoughts?
thanks!!

Adobe Reader XI downloaded to my wife's laptop tonight.  Windows 8.1.  Open PDF, select Comments > comment dialog, then place icon on PDF and start editing.  Small edits work fine.  Large amounts of comment text, once you move off the icon and come back and hover over the comment icon, causes the full size comment window to flicker rapidly (5-10ms between on and off) until you move the mouse away from the icon.  Unreadable.  Tried on my identical model laptop and happens there too.  What's going on?

Exiting FULL screen is triggered by one of three things.
1. Pressing "ESC" on the keyboard - a "user input".
2. Clicking the "toggle" on the player interface, which placed the video into FULL screen - again, a "user input".
3. The page refreshing or new content loading in the page - can be "user input", or something like a javascript or ad in the page.
Since Chrome uses its own "proprietary" plug-in, which functions independently of the ActiveX (IE) and Standard Plug-in (Firefox), you can uninstall and reinstall all day long and it'll have no effect on Chrome. You can't download or update "PepperFlash" from here.
If you go to the Chrome Settings:
Click "Show advanced settings..."
and click "Reset browser settings"

• When mouse pointer changes from arrow to cursor it starts to flicker

I am running Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop (P500-ST5807).
When the mouse pointer changes from arrow to cursor it starts to flicker. The problem seemed to start after I clicked "hide pointer while typing". I tried unchecking "hide pointer while typing" but this did not correct the problem. I have also tried adjusting the touchpad settings to less sensitive -- this did not help either. I have searched the internet and all types of "cursor flicker" seems to be a common problem.
Would anyone have a simple solution?
