Yoga 13, Windows 8.1, invisible keyboard presses

I have a very serious and strange issue with my PC that is preventing me from doing my work.
My PC is randomly closing windows all by itself. I will be doing my work and then all of a sudden, the window in which I am working in closes.  Its like an invisible hand is pressing keys on my keyboard. Some other behavior could only be caused by holding a key down on the keyboard (such as the up key when it is continuously scrolling up through a menu). At some of the worst parts is that the computer to shutdown or reboot by itself. Another issue is that the trackpad will randomly stop responding. Usually I can get response back if I press the button on my laptop that toggles the enable/disable state of the trackpad. So I assume that somehow without me physically pressing this key, it is being pressed.
These issues have started happening a couple of days ago. The SSD upgrade was the last thing I did to it and that was at least 2 months ago. (see below)
I first I thought something with my RAM might be wrong. I downloaded Ultimate Boot CD, installed it onto a USB drive and ran the MemTest86+ test. No errors were detected. (I stopped it after an hour of running) (Screenshot) I also ran the Windows version of the memory test and no errors again.
I checked the Windows logs to check for anything strange. There was nothing unusual in the System logs but the Application logs has some stuff that might be of use. I'm not sure exactly what its saying but here is the logs under suspicion: public dropbox link
While writing this post my Google chrome window closed completely. Luckily I copied this post bc I knew it was going to happen. Then while making a file to save what I copied, the windows explorer window closed on me. AND THEN THIS HAPPENS: video  I HAVE PROJECTS DUE AND I NEED TO USE THIS LAPTOP.
Additional information:
Lenovo Yoga 13 inch Computer
Windows 8.1
Owned laptop for 1 year and 2 months
Changes from stock:
Upgraded RAM from 4GB to 8GB
Added a second SSD
(To do these upgrades it requires you to remove the keyboard.)
Upgraded from Window 8 to Windows 8.1
Questions:
What do you guys think is wrong with my PC? Is it possessed by the devil?
What can I do to fix it?  I can run any other tests available on the UBCD easily.
Is there a way to monitor what keys are currently being pressed (as an overlay of my other windows)?
Is this an issue with the physical keyboard?  (visually I cannot notice anything wrong)

My problem was fixed by disabling the RunSwUSB service.
The jerkyness seems to be a by-product of another problem, the flickering of the mouse cursor every 2 seconds, which it was suggested was introduced by the Realtek Wireless LAN & Bluetooth Driver version 1.04.0213 dated Jun 6, 2013.  This update included a logging utility that runs every 2 seconds, recording data to C:\Windows\runSW.log (the file on my PC was 117MB!!! so I recommend deleting the file). lmader started a post I have been compiling a list of fixes for the Yoga 13 here... with a link to instructions to fix a number of problems, #2 is a fix to Mouse cursor flickers after latest network driver update, that details how to disable RunSWUSB service.
Kudos to Imader!
Cheers

    Battery does not appear to charge
    Important: iPod touch cannot be charged with a FireWire-based power source.
    Verify that the power source being used is working properly.
    If connecting to a computer's USB port, verify it is a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Note: The USB ports on most keyboards don't provide enough power, so if you're connecting iPod touch to a keyboard, make sure it has a high-powered USB 2.0 port.
    Verify the computer is turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPod touch is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPod touch battery may drain.
    Try another USB port.
    Try charging from a USB charger if available.
    If that does not help, try another USB cable if available.
    Learn more about charging the battery.
    The Home button isn't working
    Put the iPod Touch to sleep.
    Wait a couple of seconds.
    Press the Home button.
    iPod Touch should wake up.
    If iPod Touch does not wake up, then iPod Touch should be serviced.

  • Sensing a keyboard press in a forms app?

    In a windows form, I have a button. When that button is pressed, I want it to look for keyboard presses. When the spacebar is pressed 10 times, I want the button to do something. Is this at all possible?
    In Calculus, 1+1=0.

    I guess that you have only one button and one label in the form so that button1 is focused by default when Form1 loads. You set button1.Enable = false, Form1.LostFocus so that keyevents do not work.
    Please try to use the following code it works well
    public partial class Form1 : Form
    int i = 0;
    public Form1()
    InitializeComponent();
    this.KeyPreview = true;
    this.KeyPress += new KeyPressEventHandler(Form1_KeyPress);
    private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    button1.Enabled = false;
    this.Focus();
    private void Form1_KeyPress(object sender, KeyPressEventArgs e)
    if (e.KeyChar == (char)Keys.Space)
    i += 1;
    label1.Text = "Worked !";
    if (i == 10)
    button1.Enabled = true;
    Hope above help !

  • Yoga 13, Windows 8 Pro, Single-Click sometimes results in Double-Click

    I'm using a brand new Yoga 13 (Window 8 Pro).  Clicking on the touchpad (not the touch screen) sometimes has issues.  Specifically, every once in a while, a single-click on the touchpad will result in double-click behavior.
    I'm not referring to tapping, but rather physical clicking (press, depress touchpad on the lower left).
    I disabled tap-to-click in case it was registering the tap, and then the click.  That didn't resolve the issue.
    I also increased the speed required (within Windows) for a double-click to the fastest (least time between clicks) possible.  That also didn't resolve the issue.
    It really seems like the touchpad, every once in a while, registers a double-click, like some sort of physical defect in the touchpad that presses, depresses, presses depresses immediately.
    Ideas?

    I'm running Windows 8 (Not Pro) on a brand new Yoga 13 and am experiencing the same probem.  It doesnt happen all the time but just enough to be really annoying.  It seems like if I try right clicking I can get it to stop.

  • Yoga 11 (Windows RT) - worth the discounted price?

    As the title indicates, I'm curious as to whether the discounted Yoga 11 price is worth it ($299 + tax). I'm currently looking for a netbook-like companion to take with me when I go to class or work. I'm currently deciding between this and the Dell Inspiron 11 3000. The Asus T100 is a bit too small for my liking, and has some quality control issues. Chromebooks are ruled out largely due to the lack of editing PDF support (there are some apps, but they mostly are terrible).
    While I like the form factor and battery life, I'm skeptical of the Tegra 3 processor. That's about 2 years old now, and I've been hearing that the Yoga 11 (and Surface RT first gen) are both pretty laggy when it comes to typing in Microsoft Word and using other apps in general. Have these issues been fixed with updates (particularly, the 8.1 update recently released)? Or would people suggest passing on the Yoga and going for something that's full windows?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I bought a Yoga 11 recently, at the $299 price, and although I have some quibbles, I'm generally very pleased and would recommend it, especially at this price.
    Windows 8.1 RT has a very snappy interface, even with the Tegra 3 cpu, and I've never noticed any lag switching between programs, and from the desktop to metro interface. I've also found Word performs very well, along with the rest of Office. I just gave a presentation at a panel this weekend and everyone in my group loaded their powerpoints on my Yoga 11, most of them created on Macs. Everything went fluidly.
    Where you notice the CPU is in loading programs, and downloading/installing software. Programs like Word take an extra 2-3 seconds beyond what I'm used to from my Atom netbook (which also uses an SSD). I suspect the I/O to the drive isn't that fast, along with the processor. My wife has a Nexus 7 with the same processor, however, and it seems to perform better on the Yoga in Windows 8.1. I'm an Android person, but I really wanted a fully functional version of Office for my portable, along with great battery life -- this thing fits the bill, even better than the 11S, which has around half the battery life.
    I don't mind being stuck with RT, though it still has few apps, since I'm using this device mostly for tablet-style media consumption, and occasional Office work. It's perfect for that. The thing about it is that the build quality is clearly that of a much more expensive machine. So even though it's got this tablet processor (which, again, is fine, just a bit slow), the screen, keyboard, fit and finish are that of a premium $700 machine, which was their original price point.
    Of course it depends on your needs, but for me, this device is great. Ideal travel companion too, the only exception is that it won't recognize ethernet dongles, so you can't use wired internet at all. Windows 8.1 prevents even the jailbreak that allowed people to load the drivers before. Really stupid move on Microsoft's part, but then they're not the most brilliant company.

  • Using Photoshop CC 2014 on a Windows Tablet without a keyboard and mouse

    Using Photoshop CC 2014 on a Windows Tablet without a keyboard and mouse can be quite a challenge. Even if you use the experimental 2x UI. You can not use your fingers or to quickly change tools and change settings. You have no shortcut without popping up Windows touch keyboard or leave it up taking a great deal of screen space.  If you're using the 2x UI Photoshop uses the screen at half resolution so it displays 1/4 the amount of pixels it could.
    Fortunately I found a little touchkey utility on the web the lets you design your own touch keyboards. The can be transparent and you can even paint under them as long as you start the stroke  outside the keyboard area. The keyboards can be toggles on and off so you can actually use Photoshop.  The utility is small and requires not installation can be run form anywhere.  I purchased a Surface Pro 3 a week ago.  Its a full fledge PC.  Through the home group I can access all machines in my house and using network shares I can access all files on my machines and the network drive on my router,  I can print on my Epson 4800 printer. I can show slideshow on my HDTV via   Bluetooth using a Microsoft wireless display adapter.   I can plug in my Wacom Intuos Pro wireless receiver into the USB  3 port and use my Wacom tablet.  Have a very touchy machine.  Touch on the keyboard touch pad touch on the Display display and on the Wacom tablet.  Could have touch on a mouse but I prefer the Microsoft comfort bluetooth mouse that has six buttons and a four way wheel.
    As a tablet its under two pounds.  Its quite impressive cost why mor the an iPad but worth the cost to me for with windows I can get at the file system.   If you have a Surface Pro 3 you should check out  "Touchkey" its handy.

    Do a screen screen capture and post it here so we can see what you stating about a white layout...

    Recently, iTunes upgraded.  My 7th generation iPod is now not recognized and I cannot sync.  The troubleshooting talks  about being visible in Windows (iPod is invisible)  No other options and nothing about windows 8

    I have had similar issues with mine, happens mainly if I transfer songs and then decide to disconnect my iPod to listen to them with my IEMs (I use Interenet Explorer in my case and it is not neccessarely up when this happens, so I seriously doubt it is an issue conencted to the web browser). I have no patience for this so my trick is I try to eject it from iTunes, if that does not work, then I bring Windows explorer up, right mouse click on the iPod mounted drive and select Eject. It gives me the same warning but there is a third button selection called Continue. When I choose that it just disconnets the drive anyway and the iPod is finally disconnected. It seems to work each and every time I do it so this solution is fine for me. Would be intersting to see what the real root cause of this is because I started getting this problem with the newer iTunes 11.

  • Issues with Thinkpad yoga on Windows 7 64-bit

    I uninstalled the windows 8.1 that came with my Thinkpad Yoga to installe windows 7 64-bit because there was no support for Power Manager ( a tool that allows you to charge your battery only upto a certain percentage (eg 40%) which helps reduce battery aging when the notebook is mostly operated on AC power).
    Doing that required me to fully clean the Hard-disk during the installation process.
    I installed almost all of the drivers available on  http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-yoga-series-laptops/thinkpad-...
    for thinkpad yoga and windows 7 64 bit.
    Happily, this provided me the Power manager, and I can use it just as I wanted.
    However, all these has brought in additional issues which are listed below:
    1. The touch pad right click doesn't work. Only two finger tap works as right click.
    2. The touch pad gestures for zoom and scroll doesn't work at all.
    3. The screen auto-rotate doesn't work.
    4. The touch screen gesture for zoom doesn't work.
    I did install the ultra-nav and screen-rotate drivers, but I get error messages regarding synaptics ... not working and also sensor driver not working during the windows startup.
    Any help please?
    Thank you.

    Just when I was happy that major issues have been resolved by constant updating, I am now experiencing this frightening problem. Mostly during startup, and lately in the middle of working, the screen freezes, shows very damaged image (like TV noise), produces the most unpleasant sound through the speakers and nothing works. I need to restart and hope that it will be ok. Sometimes it requires 2 or 3 restarts, going to safe-mode and returning back to get the issue resolved.
     This has happened three or 4 times within 24 hrs. I searched in the forum and for another model it was suggested that epresscache might be the cause. I disabled the service, but the problem reappeared even then.
    Any help please:
    This is what appears on the screen when the computer freezes and produces loud unpleasant noise sound.

  • How to create an EventListener for a specific keyboard press?

    Hello,
    I have been trying to figure out how to switch my actionscript3 from a mouse click to a keyboard press. I'm new to Flash, but the problem I keep coming to is that I need to have 3 separate keys programmed in to do three seperate outcomes. I have messed around with eventListeners for keyboard presses, but I cannot figure out how to have flash listen for a specific key press and then do an action based on that specific key press.
    Here is my actionscript. Any suggestions on how I can modify the mouse clicks to be keyboard presses, where key 's' = btn1 and triggers gotoAndPlay(2), 'g' = btn2 and triggers gotoAndPlay(3), 'k' = btn3 and triggers gotoAndPlay(4) as outline below. I also need my timer and writing to an exteral file to remain the same.
    stop();
    var startTime:Number=getTimer();
    var elapsedTime:Number;
    stream.writeUTFBytes("Item1,");
    function BTN1Action(eventObject:MouseEvent) {
         elapsedTime = getTimer() - startTime;
              stream.writeUTFBytes("Tar1,");
              stream.writeUTFBytes(elapsedTime.toString());
              stream.writeUTFBytes("\n");
              gotoAndPlay(2);
    function BTN2Action(eventObject:MouseEvent) {
              elapsedTime = getTimer() - startTime;
              stream.writeUTFBytes("Tar2,");
              stream.writeUTFBytes(elapsedTime.toString());
              stream.writeUTFBytes("\n");
              gotoAndPlay(3);
    function BTN3Action(eventObject:MouseEvent) {
              elapsedTime = getTimer() - startTime;
              stream.writeUTFBytes("Tar3,");
              stream.writeUTFBytes(elapsedTime.toString());
              stream.writeUTFBytes("\n");
              gotoAndPlay(4);
    BTN1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, BTN1Action);
    BTN2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, BTN2Action);
    BTN3.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, BTN3Action);
    Any assistance with this is greatly appriciated.

    Assuming you want to monitor key press on the button BTN1, you can do following:
    // Add a key up event listener on the button (or on the source where the key press needs to be captured)
    BTN1.addEventListener(KeyPress.KEYUP, BTN1KeyUpAction);
    // BTN1KeyUpAction sample, you can modify this
    function BTN1KeyUpAction(e:KeyboardEvent):void {
        if(e.keyCode == Keyboard.S) {
        gotoAndPlay(2);

  • W510 Lenovo Bluetooth windows update killed USB Keyboard

    Hi all,
    Yesterday afternoon (14 M!R 2012) I ran a windows 7 update that included a Lenovo update. It was some kind of bluetooth thing, but I'm not really sure the exact name. Foolishly, I chose to include this in the update. When I performed the updates and restarted the machine my USB keyboard no longer works. There were 13 updates available for install. 9 of them were critical updates and 4 were optional. I installed 3 of the 4 optional and all of the critical. So when I discovered that the keyboard didn't work, I rollback the update to the last good configuration and the problem persisted. When I looked at what updates were available, 12 of the 13 were there, but the Lenovo bluetooth one wasn't on the list, leading me to believe that it didn't get rolled back.
    What I've noticed is that the keyboard is recognized by windows, but I can't type anything. Furthermore, when I do type a few characters with it, after about 5 seconds I hear the "disconnected a USB device" sound. So something is definitely strange, but I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any ideas? I really need the full sized ergo keyboard. The tiny laptop keyboard kills my hands. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and I really need my big keyboard or my hands are killing me.
    Thanks,
    Tripp

    Totally generic. I have no idea why the bluetooth update would affect it. I'm just pointing the finger there b/c that was the only update that doesn't seem to have been undone by the windows restore operation. At one point last night windows performed an update on the usb drivers, but sadly that didn't solve anything. It's bizarre because windows can see the keyboard, it just doesn't work. Windows doesn't seem to think that there's anything wrong with device and it says the drivers are up to date.

  • Windows key on mac keyboard

    I have Windows 8.1 installed in VMWare Fusion on my iMac.  I am using a wireless Mac keyboard.
    Does anyone know a workaround on the Mac keyboard for the "Windows key"?

    It may need a replacement PRAM (CMOS) battery.  Certain peripherals and CPU bus attached mechanisms on computers may start to fail if the PRAM battery is low.   http://www.ifixit.com/ explains how to replace it yourself, if you are not near an authorized service center, or not in the U.S. where some of these cheaper repair places exist:
    http://www.dttservice.com/
    http://www.powerbookresq.com/
    http://www.microdocusa.com/
    http://www.macspecialist.com/
    http://www.techrestore.com/
    Windows may address the keyboard differently than from the CMOS level.
