Yoga 2 11. Virtual keyboard in Tablet mode

Hi.
Yoga 2 11 and Windows 8.1 is entirley new to me, so please excuse my lack of knowledge.
When PC is asleep in tablet mode, I cannot get the virtual keyboard in order to log in. When I try to type, it pops up for a second or so (varies in time), but then shrinks back down.
Has anyone see this and is there any way I can sort it out without refreshing Windows? The amount of work to do in reloading programmes and apps is just too painful. If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.
Thanks
Rob

Hi Alaa
Many thanks.
No actually - I haven't set a restore point, or even thought of doing that. It was Lenovo support that suggested a Windows refresh but when I saw that I would have to re-load apps etc., I backed out. I've done too much for that.
Are you suggesting that if I set a restore point, then I would keep everything already installed?
I now notice that under some circumstances the virtual keyboard pops up. For example it came up when I experimented by trying to answer this in tablet mode. It didn't do it the first time but when I was folding back, it suddenly and randomly came up. Also I was able to search on Maps with a virtual keyboard. But no way will it let me log on.To begin with, (first time I try in a session), it seems to wait until it detects my hand over it,  and then disappears into its shell!
Thanks
Rob

  • Yoga 2 Pro: Enable keyboard in tablet mode

Hi everyone. I'm very new here. I just got my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro i7 8GB last month. And I'm wondering if it's possible for the keyboard to be enabled while in tablet mode. Since I wanna make it as my external keyboard and I'm gonna use an external monitor for bigger screen through MicroHDMI-HDMI connection. Please let me know how to do it. I hope someone can help me here. Thank you

Thank You Indest! I can't help you as I am a linux user.
I've installed Gnome Ubuntu 14.04 on my Y2P and I'm facing the same issue as windows users.
Keyboard is disabled in tablet mode for me too. That's why I've been thinking that is because of an hardware configuration rather than software.
Anyway, if there is any window user willing to help, that would be great.
Much better if Lenovo FINALLY ANSWERS this question!!! Boy, that's not a customer oriented approach. Rewrite your corporate brochures and take out that you care about customers. Lol

  • Yoga 2 13 stuck in tablet mode

    Hello,
I just received a new Yoga 2 13, 8Gb, 256Gb SSD. I have been using it exclusively as a laptop.
It worked just fine for a few days. I did notice once the screen flipped sideways and the keyboard turned off randomly but after turning the laptop on its side and back, everything went back to normal.
Today, after closing the lid and putting the machine to sleep, then waking it up, it awoke in tablet mode with the sideways screen and turned off keyboard. To do anything I have to use the on-screen keyboard, which does work.
Nothing I did could get it to go back to laptop mode, or for autorotate to ever work. Rebooted several times, no. The "Lenovo" signage does show correctly in landscape as soon as the machine turns on, but once it gets to the login window, it's back to sideways tablet mode.
The auto-rotate button (which I had never touched prior) doesn't appear to do anything. I click the button, it says "autorotate off" then I click it again to "autorotate on" and still no rotation.
I called Lenovo technical support, and he tried (after remote desktoping into my machine) to try a different display driver. The Windows "Basic" Driver, the Intel Driver from March 2014, and the latest Lenovo display drivers downloaded did nothing.
He turned off "ycp" or something similar as a startup service, no help.
In Screen Resolution, he changed the orientation of the display from portrait to landscape which did fix the orientation problem but did nothing about the keyboad. I assume this is a brute force solution which does not fix the underlying "endless tablet mode" issue.
Finally, he had me boot into the BIOS. Interestingly, the keyboard works just fine in the BIOS screen, and the orientation is the correct landscape. WHAT?!!
But bottom line, tech support failed to find a fix for the problem. Can I ask any of you for some additional ideas?
    Thank you so much!

I got lucky after multiple times of trying. It is back on Sync'ing.

  • Ideapad yoga 13 - windows 10 - automatic tablet mode?

I have upgraded my yoga 13 to Windows 10 and everything works great.  The one thing that bugs me though is that the laptop doesn't automatically switch to tablet mode when I flip the keyboard around. Does the original Yoga 13 not support that (yet) ?

Go to Start>Settings>System>Tablet Mode, set 'When this device automatically switch tablet mode on or off' to 'Don't ask me and always switch. Also, if you didn't uninstall it before the upgrade disable Lenovo Transition in the Task Manager Startup Tab, you don't need it, Windows deals with switching now.

  • Droid 4 virtual keyboard

Having some irritations while texting or typing in general using the droid 4 virtual keyboard in portrait mode. I press a letter, it displays the "correct" letter, but soon as I lift my finger, it will drop in a different letter either neighboring letter or as far as 5 keys away. Tech support only suggests a factory default reset, helps for a limited time and I don't like having to restart or FDR the device daily. I'm not outside of the replacement 1 year window (even though this is about the 4th droid4 for speaker issues).
What can I do? Its frustrating seeing my finger touch a letter, say letter "T", the phone shows its going to enter "T" then I get something like "Y, H, U, R, G" etc once I lift my finger off. Please advise !https://community.verizonwireless.com/images/emoticons/sad.gif|___jive_emoticon_name=sad|jivemacro=emoticon|class=jive_macro jive_emote|src=https://community.verizonwireless.com/images/emoticons/sad.gif!
Noticed while sitting with a text message open to reply, the phone was dropping in letters randomly on its own. I was not touching the display of the device, it continued this for over a minute until I pressed back to drop out the keyboard, when I did this, the keyboard reopened itself and began texting again, it had dropped in about 20 random letters.

Has it worked before and just now stopped?  Are you using the standard keyboard, Swype, or some other add on keyboard?  Even tapping in the field you need to type into doesn't bring it up?
Try a system cache clear and see if that makes it work any better... it won't erase any of your data or settings but may make things run a bit more smoothly.
    Power down phone
Hold volume up/down & power simultaneously until you see the Boot Mode Selection Menu
Use volume down to navigate to 'Recovery', use volume up to select
Should see screen with triangle and exclamation point next to an Android
Press volume up/down simultaneously to go into system recovery
Use volume rocker to navigate to 'wipe cache' and use power button to select
Once finished, use volume rocker to navigate to 'reboot system now' and use power button to select

  • Yoga 2-11 Onscreen Keyboard won't stay up when in tablet mode

I have seen many topics about the onscreen keyboard not staying on when in tablet mode but most of it from 2013. I am having this problem and I cannot find a solution. I have to go to laptop mode to sign in and then go back to tablet mode. The keyboard pops up but as soon as it does it goes away.  What is the fix? Yoga 2-11 purchased Dec 2014 from Best Buy.

Thank you for your swift suggestion! I think it has worked I will monitor it for a couple of days

  • On Screen Keyboard Glitch in Tablet Mode - On Screen Keyboard minimizes / disappears / slides down

    Hi there -
New Yoga owner here ( just bought it yesterday) and within minutes of setting the computer up I noticed that the on screen keyboard was malfunctioning when the yoga is in tablet mode. Specifically, it pops up for about a second and then, without me touching or clicking or doing anything, it quickly slides back down. repeated attempts to bring up the keyboard end up, frustratingly, with the same result. what is perplexing to me is the on screen keyboard works fine in laptop mode (when I need it least).
Someone else already started a post on this BUT it was marked as 'solved' (which it wasn't) so I figured I'd start new thread. The solution on the previous thread was to simply 'refresh' windows to get rid of any new drivers that were downloaded since purchasing the yoga, but I did not download or update anything prior to this problem arising (as I said, the problem seemed to occur within a few minutes of turning the machine on for the first time). In any case, I tried the refresh and it did not work so clearly my problem is not that I downloaded an incompatible or faulty driver. Please Help! I love this machine and I'm trying to see past the other flaws I've noticed so far (subtle screen flickering, inconsistent touch sensitivity etc), but this issue is starting to really undermine my confidence in the product quality and, from a productivity standpoint, it is a real deal breaker to not have full tablet functionality.
    Solved!

I had the same problem with the disappearing virtual keyboard within hours of starting to use my new Yoga 13.  I read somewhere that it was a problem with an incompatible Synaptics driver, and when I looked in the control panel, it showed that the Synaptics driver had been updated on my Yoga as of the day I bought it.  I think somehow by agreeing to automatic updates of the software, the Synaptics driver is updated to an incompatible version.   So what I did was I removed the Synaptics driver, using the Windows program uninstaller tool, rebooted, and then found the Synaptics driver at the Lenovo site which is specifically labelled as the Yoga 13 driver.  I installed that, and the keyboard is now working fine.

So ive had my Yoga 2 pro for a couple weeks now. I am running into an issue where when im watching a youtube video I cant use the touch screen to contol youtube. The play pause button, full screen and the seek feature of youtube cannot be used in tablet mode or any mode where the keyboard is disabled. The only way to watch youtube it seems is to switch back to laptop mode.

  • Yoga 2 Pro: Tablet mode enabled by closing the laptop and crashing minimized store apps

Since clean installing Windows 10 on my Yoga 2 Pro I'm experiencing Store apps to become a complete white useless windows after waking up the device from standby. Further investigation brought up the following perceptions:
    1) This only happens with Store apps minimized to the taskbar before getting the device into standby; Win32 apps are not affected
    2) This only happens if the standby is initialized by closing the laptop and NOT manually through the start menu 3) The Problem also only occurs if the machine is set up to be locked automatically after waking up (default setting in Windows 10 is not to be locked btw.)
The second one got me wondered. After some puzzling around I remembered that I - as a Windows Insider - some time ago observed that the tablet mode in Windows 10 is initialized even if the screen is almost closed. Back then I tested this also on my installation of Windows 8.1 and came to the conclusion that even there the keyboard and touchpad get disabled by nearly closing the laptop. Back then there was no tablet mode so that it was not noticeable at first sight but could be tested by using the touchpad and keyboard with the screen close to the keyboard.
So ymc.exe as part of Lenovo Transition 2.0 seems not able to detect in which direction the screen is rotated. There seems to be some angle at which the mechanism is initialized regardless whether the screen is rotated AROUND the machine for using the tent or tablet mode OR rotated CLOSE to the keyboard. This seems by design.
Problem with this for Windows 10 is: It's getting Store apps crashed that are minimized to the taskbar if the option to always switch to tablet mode automatically is ticked on and the machine is locked after waking up from standby because the machine changes into tablet mode before sleeping down and changes back to desktop mode if waking up. It seems like minimized Store apps don't support this kind of behavior and are getting totally blank and unusable.
I clean installed Windows 10 from scratch and everything is set up the right way. I have an secondary Installation of Windows 10 for testing purposes (Insider Preview) on a secondary partition of this machine that is set up with the same Windows 10 release build and am able to reproduce this behavior there, too.
Workaround for now is to disable the option to change the mode automatically or to lower security by setting up the machine not to be locked after waking up from standby. Even with the latter this behavior of the device is at least unattractive as Windows and/or the start menu get resized all of a sudden after waking up the device.
Is it technically possible for a newer version of Lenovo Transition to be able to invoke the tablet mode only if the screen is rotated around the device and not by closing the laptop to prevent minimized Store apps from getting blank and unusable?-----Post edited to add the Point 3.

Go to Control Panel >> Device Manager
There is Sensor devices tab there.
Can you post a screenshot of how that is looking?
One thing that you can try.
    Switch off your laptop.
    Disconnect power supply
Press power button for 30 seconds.
    Then turn on and test.

  • How bad is tablet mode for the keyboard?

As stated in a previous thread, i am thinking of getting the new Flex 3. One concern i have is what happens with the keyboard when it is flipped in to tablet mode. I know that the keys lock, but I was hoping they retracted too. According to Lenovo, they dont retract, they just lock. Has anyone used one of the earlier model Yogas or something similar? Did you have an issue with the keyboard? Are the keys likely to get damaged?
Also I know that there are cases that are meant to protect the keyboard, but i couldnt find any from lenovo that were 15 inches. There are other brands, but they have different dimensions. Since this laptop is brand new im not that suprirsed that the accessories havent been released yet, but it it likely that one will be released in the near future?

It all depends on the usage.
I have the Yoga 3 pro and I rarely use it in Tablet mode. When I do use it in Stand or Tablet mode the surface is generally my table or lap, so I dont think that is damaging the keyboard. It has been working great so far.
Also, on the yoga 3 pro, the keys are very shallow and do not protrude outwards. I am sure that should be the case with each of these hybrids, otherwise the keyboard would be pressed all the time in those modes.

I've not been impressed with Windows Metro when using my Yoga 2 Pro in tablet mode, so I have installed BlueStacks (http://www.bluestacks.com/).
So far it's been pretty good, with the occasional glitch.
    Anyone else tried it?
