Yoga 2 Pro don't work with external monitor (picture attached)

I'm trying to connect my Y2P to my Dell 2407wfpp, 24" 1920x1200, (http://www.dell.com/downloads/emea/products/snp/2407wfp_monitor.pdf) and everything turns to a green-blue colour..
I'm connecting using a Mini HDMI to HDMI cable + a HDMI to DVI adapter.
In terms of troubleshooting I've done the following:
I've tried connecting the laptop using just the Mini HDMI to HDMI cable to two other screens (Samsung TV's and they both worked) So it seems that the cable works fine, and the laptop is capable of connecting and displaying on a second screen.
I've also tried connecting a different laptop (Dell Vostro 3500) vith a normal HDMI cable + the same HDMI to DVI adapter and this to works fine, so it seems that the HDMI to DVI adapter works fine (and so does the Dell screen)
What could be causing this? coud it just be the combination of the mini HDMI to HDMI cable and the HDMI to DVI adapter that's causing the issue? Or coudl this be a driver issue that causes this particular Dell screen not to work?
Really appreciate some help with this!
(see below for image)

Your photos show the issue very well - They clearly "forgot" to leave a cutout in the left edge rubber bumper to allow the MicroHDMI to be inserted fully.
I guess one solution is to start cutting into the left edge side and make a cut out.  Not sure that would do our warranties any good!
Lenovo this is an easy fix for you to do !!
Until then, I have these two cable that seem to work well enough -- not perfect but usable.  There's the Cable Matters micro-HDMI to VGA adapter, I cited before.  Using it now.  Zero stability / disconnection problems.

(make sure you pick a micro-HDMI version for the Y2P)
ALSO and highly recommended...
Monoprice microHDMI (male) to (full size) HDMI female -- Monoprice part number 7603

On Amazon here:

The good thing about these is that they are CHEAP - $4-5 each.  So buy two and take a craft knife to one and "carve" away at the Micro-HDMI plug's rubber surround until it fits really snugly into the Yoga's recessed socket
This Monoprice adapter works for me and seems pretty stable without any "carving".  Lots of happy reviews on Amazon and Monoprice from Surface and tablet and phone owners using this successfully.  Nice to be able to use standard size HDMI cables with this.
The product description says "Very snug fit which will help to prevent HDMI connection problems of having cables come loose" -- which suggests to me they put some thought into this little guy and maybe why it works better than some of the others.
My guess is that other similar Monoprice cables would be a good brand to try (and cheap)

  • Yosemite: Turning off Macbook Pro screen (lid open) with external monitor connected

Here we go again, this worked pre-Yosemite. Now it seems this trick no longer works. After following these steps again the screen on my Macbook Pro now turns on after logging in and opening the clam shell.
Anyone figure out/know a way to turn off the screen on the Macbook Pro with external monitors plugged in? (yes, closing the clam shell–but I'm referring to keeping the clam shell open with the display turned off)
    http://gizmodo.com/5938452/a-trick-to-make-using-an-external-monitor-with-your-m acbook-way-better
    To execute in Terminal:
    sudo nvram boot-args="iog=0x0"
    To undo in Terminal:
    sudo nvram -d boot-args
Once you type it into terminal I believe you need to enter your password. I then restart my machine. Now the TRICK is to either restart your machine with the lid already closed (hit restart then slam the lid!) OR turn the machine on for the first time (then quickly slam the lid!) once you are past the login screen you can open the lid.

Has anyone experimented with tip 2 (active corners)?  Perhaps it still works.

  • E440 not working with external monitor via onelink dock

My brand new E440 is not working with my monitor when connected via the dock, however it is working when plugged straight into the laptop. I have tried using another E440 with the dock and monitor, this set up worked flawlessly.
Any ideas on how to fix this probllem?
    Thanks

I sent it in for repair. Came back and it was still not working. Im waiting for lenovo to get back to me on it.

  • Macbook Pro won't work with external display?

The very first time I connected my brand new Macbook Pro to my 23" Cinema Display the laptop screen displayed mostly static, though the external monitor continued to work. The computer was sent to Apple for repair. Apple replaced the logic board. Though the nature of the problem changed following the "repair" (the Macbook's screen now goes dark instead of displaying noise) the laptop still will not drive the external monitor successfully without multiple re-starts. I've experimented with turning the sleep mode on and off as well as the screen saver. No effect. Is anyone using this set up successfully or is there some fatal design flaw in the Macbook Pro? System 1.4.8, 2 gigs RAM. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. Yes, I've driven the 23" with another Mac. I took the laptop back to the shop today. Hopefully they can resolve the issue.

  • Macbook pro retina quit working with external displays

Just got a new external display, and can't get it to work with my MBP. I tried it via the mini display port and also via the HDMI connection. Then I tried to use my flatscreen tv just to test things out via HDMI and now that doesn't work either, I've done that quite a bit in the past. The only thing thats changed is I updated to Yosemite. I even tried different cables.
    Thoughts?
    Txs,
    Jeff

When I unplug the cable from the mac, the monitor does display this message:
    "No Display Port Cable"
So it does seem like the display knows that its connected to a mac, just nothing shows up. Don't get anything in System Prefs > Displays either.

  • My Thunderbolt-port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (Early 2011) works with other monitors but not with my Thunderbolt Display.

I just got a thunderbolt monitor and excitedly, I plugged my early 2011 thunderbolt port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (running 10.8.2) into it and... no image on the monitor.
Ok, so I know that the TB display works because I plugged a mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro into it (running 10.7.5) and it works perfectly. In fact, I'm using it to type this message right now.
    Other details:
    - in both the displays preference pane and about this mac/system info, the 15" mbp recognizes the display, yet... no picture either clamshell open or closed. restarted with it plugged in and not plugged in, no difference. also? sound comes through the monitor.
    - ALSO, i plugged in a mini displayport monitor into the 15" port, and it displayed fine, so the port seems to be doing something.
    see my conundrum?

It should just work - if it's not working with your 2011 model (works just fine with my 15" late 2011, right out of the box) I would get in touch with AppleCare as soon as possible and see what the senior techs may have to say...

  • Final Cut Pro / Logic Pro Don't Work with MacBook Pro

I think it's pretty bad public relations that Apple would knowingly sell a new product that does not work with Logic 7.1 or Final Cut Studio, and not bother to tell you.
We found out the hard way when after a post-production editor spent 3 hours trying to reinstall the discs and called an Apple Support center. They informed us that because of Intel Chips we needed to replace our software completely and pay Apple a fee of $50 per title for this benefit.
I can live with spending $100 for software which is less than 1 year old (although I think Apple will be sued over this one if not their pathetic support of iPod batteries) but why is so hard for Apple Computers as a company to advise customers when software doesn't work?
For Apple to call this product a "Pro" product and support it with such pathetic disdain for the client and to not advise their so-called 'geniuses' of this (dare I use the word) "glitch" is really hilarious.

I don't know what's worse, the fact that some of the replies here are completely immature and stupid, or the fact that some of you have hundreds of posts meaning that you don't seem to do anything else all day except stare at the Apple website and look for things to pick at.
I have a right as a consumer to complain, and no, this doesn't equate to buying beachfront property or the number of children I have relative to rooms in my house, it equates to whether or not Apple, as a company, feels it is important to notify customers in a meaningful way of changes within their product offerings.
I'm happy you all seem to have nothing else to do all day except stare at the Apple website, I personally would rather stare at that beachfront property in Big Sur.

  • MacBook Pro won't sleep with external monitor

    Hello,
have a problem. I'm using external monitor with my MacBook Pro. If I close the lid, I see all windows on external monitor and Yosemite won't sleep. Can you help me please? My external monitor is Samsung 21.5" and I'm connecting it to MacBook Pro via DVI.
    Thank you

    Hey Renecek,
My first thought was, "Hey, you are using closed-clamshell mode".

But then I realized, wait, you want it to sleep.
For that, check out the suggestions in these articles.

  • Macbook Pro not waking up with external monitor

I've connected an external display to my MBP. I've been able to work out how to mirror the two.
But when I try to have the lid closed and then wake up the laptop with my wireless keyboard, the external monitor displays the desktop for a moment then also goes to sleep.
No matter how much I punch the keyboard nothing happens.
By the way, when I am running in closed lid mode I have disabled mirror.

    Think I found a solution.
If I enable System Preferences>Bluetooth>Advanced>Allow Bluetooth Devices to wake this computer...it all seems fine

  • Blackcreen but works with external monitor

Hi, I need help with my moms notebook its HP not sure about the model but it's definitely one of those old ones.
so she was restarting her NB probabbly by taking the power cable off. Now the notebook wont load just blackscreen so I tried few usual stuff like taking the battery and power cable off and press power button for a minute and it didnt help so i decided to connect external monitor and both of them turned on even the notebook screen. however as soon i turn on her notebook without extra monitor there is blackscreen again.

    Hi @gcko ,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I saw your posts regarding the black screen. There isn't a whole of troubleshooting available when we can't get into the operating system or even the BIOS. Since you have already tried a Hard Reset with the battery then you will need to give us call as this is a hardware issue. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • Macbook stopped work with external monitor

    Hello!!!
    I need a help!
I always used my MacBook 13" with a Samsung 932BW as external monitor.
Yesterday morning, I had to change this monitor to another one. After that, my 932BW doesn't work any more with my Mac, that just blink when I plug in the DVI or VGA cabe (I've both mini-Dvi adapters).
    So, any help to me????
    Thanks

    See the following Apple article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573?viewlocale=pt_BR
In particular, you may have to trash the preferences file for displays, which is a file(s) that has "windowserver" in its name. Instructions for how to do that can be found through the above link.

  • W520 screen saver wont work with external monitor.

I have a Dell 30" U3011 monitor connected via display port.
I have the computer set to "projector only" (when you hit windows-P).
There are no controls on the monitor to tell it to sleep.
In Windows 7, I have the screen saver set to "blank" after 10 minutes.  However, it never goes blank after 10 minutes - the screen saver never kicks in.
In the windows powerplan, I have it set to turn off the display after 15 minutes when plugged in.  It never turns of the display.
I have it set to dim the dipsplay afer 10 minutes to 0% brightness.  It never dims the display
In the Lenovo power manger,  I have "screen saver" ticked under Global power settings->Dynamic brighness control.  I cant find any more display saving type options under the lenovo power manager.
Its the standard Lenovo factory install of windows.
It works fine when using the internal Lenovo panel.
I have two dell laptops with windows 7, and neither has this problem - only the Lenovo.
The problem is, if I leave the computer on for say 5 hours, I come back and the screen is burnt in with the windows I have open. The monitor cost £1400 - I its as expensive as the Lenovo. If it came down to the lenovo or the montior, I think I would go with the monitor.
Any one got the same problem?
Putting the machine to sleep every time I leave the machine for more than 10 minutes would be a temporary workaround, except for the huge bug on the lenovo  "forgets" my external mintor settings when it wakes up - and goes back to the internal panel.  When I reboot, it always gets it right however, it does remember that I am on projector only.  However, rebooting every time I leave the machine for half an hour would requireme to wait for several minutes while the machine boots up - so thats not an option either.
    Solved!

Do yourself a favor.  Temporarily remove flash and re-test.

  • Macbook Pro doesn't wake with external monitor

I have a mid-2012 MBP that generally runs great.
I recently bought a new external montior (samsung) and am currently running it with a VGA adapter.
When I put the computer to sleep using the command function, it's fine; however, if I shut the clamshell, the whole system will not turn back on (monitors), although it is clear that the harddrive / fans are all active.  The only way I've found to fix it is to do a hard shut down (holding the power button).  This is obviously not acceptable ...
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem so I can put my computer to sleep normally (closing it) and have it awake when I open the clamshell?

try taking out the vga connector, don't really have a 100% but it might be something to do with your settings.

  • "Link to" slides won't work with external monitor

I built a presentation with a lot of "link to" commands in it.  It works perfectly when I run it on the desktop (MBP retina), but when I plug in a second monitor none of the link to's will work.  Why would that be and how can I fix it?

I tried a different adapter and this solved the problem.
