Yoga 2 Pro Draining Battery Fast in Sleep Mode

I have a new Yoga 2 Pro with i7 processor. It works great and normal battery life is about 4-5 hours. But with a fully charged battery, i can close the lid at night triggering sleep mode, and wake up to an almost dead battery.
Why is this happening? It's really dissapointing and I'm going to return it if I can't find a fix. I'm on the latest BIOS with all current updates. I am not using Hibernate mode.
Closing the lid shoud not cause battery to continue to drain at normal usage rates.
I'm hoping it's the WINDOWS 8 software but I've tried all the settings I can find.

the OP said battery was draining overnight because y2p was not going into sleep mode. then op changed some settings and, as i understand it, now his y2p does not drain battery overnight because he pushes power button and it goes into hibernate mode before closing lid.
I would like to raise the issue of the difference between hibernate and sleep mode. I too find that if i put my y2p (and my mbp-bootcamp) into hibernate mode then my battery does not drain overnight. however, both my laptops drain the battery overnight in sleep mode... anyone have clear understanding of this? i've look at many articles on the web, but haven't found any that specifically indicate how fast sleep mode should drain batteries. I think my gf's mba-OSx also drains overnight in sleep mode and OSx doesn't even have a hibernate option (correct me if i'm wrong)...

  • MacBook Pro late 2012 (non-retina) continues to run after lid closed; drains battery while in sleep mode; all of this since the 10.8.2 update – any ideas how to fix this?

    Hi all,
After the last combo update (10.8.2), my MacBook Pro has several issues. One of them is the greyed-out hibernation screen described here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20301110#20301110. But more distressingly, yesterday I closed the lid on it and heard music still playing. After 5 minutes I opened the lid, paused Itunes and then closed the lid again. It appeared to go to sleep, but the battery drained completely overnight.
SMC reset didn't seem to work. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Why iPad mini battery drain so quickly in sleep mode? about 35% in 7 days sleep mode (100% to 65%). Compare with my iPad 2, 7 days in sleep mode, only 2%! (100 - 98%). is it because differences in iOS? iPad mini iOS 6.0.1, iPad 2 iOS 4.3.3. I'm really frustating because of this. thanks for help

What kind of ipad mini / ipad 2 you got?
    AFAIK,
    1. ipads drain battery with 3g/4g on (regardless on wifi or not) 1% overnight.. so for 7 days .. 65 is about correct.
    2. Are your ipads setup to receive remote push notification? (more push = more battery drain.. as the screen lit up)
    3. With iOS 6 vs iOS 4 .. there are more stuff running in the background and more toggles.. that could also contribute to battery drain.

  • Macbook pro runs really slow after sleep mode

My MBP ( MacBook Pro (13-inch, medio 2012), 2,5 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB), runs very slow after sleep mode. I notice that when I wake it up, my memory usage is nearly 8 GB. After a restart it is back no a normal level, between 2 and 5 GB depending on how many programs I am running. Any ideas what causes this? My IOS is Yosemite 10.10.2
    Kind regards

    Hi Japib

Hello. My mac pro early 2008 restarts after sleep mode and it works slower. I tested it with apple hardwear test and it seems to be ok. Thank you.

    Try this:
clone your system and repair it with Disk Warrior instead
Or try a clean test system install on another drive
A must: SmcFanControl 2.2 - a mere 400 rpm extra to keep air cooling up
Try to run w/o externals. MyBook included.
Is that a 7200.11 1TB? they had a lot of issues.
Run AHT off your OEM DVD.
2008 had to have EFI and SMC updates to deal with freezes on wake from sleep, and like all models, high inrush current.  Hopefully you have a UPS and is 1500VA unit.
When you do hard restart from power button, you almost certainly add more directory errors and to files requiring immediate attention to repair and rebuild the directory; and to scan and repair and delete cache and temp files and folders. A must. Invest in bootable backups SuperDuper along with Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 6, maybe Drive Genius 3 but I'd rate that #3).
TimeMachine has its own bad habits, especially with Green drives and some externals.
Try to rule out everything and then add back one at a time.
And it may just be time to replace the 8800, very common, a couple threads this week, and it is 3 yrs old.  Might want ATI 5870 or 5770.

  • MacBook Pro does not got to sleep mode

    OS: 10.6.8
Since OS ??? I have the problem, that working with the account I normally use, may MacBook Pro will not go to sleep mode.
It is strange, but only this account is affected.
If I use another account, MacBook Pro goes to sleep mode as expected.
All accounts I work with are standard accounts without admin rights.
Can anybody help? E.g. some damaged *.plist to delete or so...

  • Battery on MacBook Pro drains very fast (even in sleepmode!)

After upgrading to Leopard, my MacBook Pro has become almost unusable as a laptop, since the battery drains very, very fast (I get around half the battery time as before the upgrade).
What's more.. It even drains battery when in sleepmode. When I close the lid or choose "Sleep" from the menu, it now takes several minutes for the machine to enter sleepmode (when the white LED starts pulsating) -- this used to take only 10-15 seconds.
In one incident I had left my MacBook Pro connected to the charger for the entire evening, and the battery was at 100% when I disconnected the charger and put the machine to sleep. I verified that the LED started pulsating and the fans stopped blowing, and went to bed myself. The next morning, the battery level was at 3% when I opened the lid and the "Warning - low battery"-message appeared immediately.
What's going on? ..and now I can't even check for software updates any longer (broken) - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1274099&stqc=true
I have never had issues with my Mac before, but this is starting to near Dell-levels of dissatisfaction!

First, you should remove your serial number form your post.  However, since you posted it, I looked it up at https://selfsolve.apple.com.
That's not a valid iPhone serial number.  I think you may have a counterfeit device.
Update:  There are no legitimate sellers or service providers of iPhones in Oman: https://locate.apple.com/om/en/
You either bought a counterfeit device, or you bought a grey-market import.  Either way, you're not going to get service for that device in that country.  Since the serial number you provided is invalid, it most likely was a counterfeit.  Go get your money back.

  • Sleep drains battery fast

I've got a new C2D MacBook and I've noticed I lose a ton of power in sleep mode without the ac adapter connected. For example, the battery drained 30% in just 1 day on sleep. I know from experience of using my G4 iBook I could go for many days in sleep mode for losing so much power.
And yes, I've calibrated the battery as directed by the Apple support page. Any MacBook pro users also seeing such a rapid decline in power? I've set the power settings with the default options for plugged in and run off battery. Anyone else notice this?

My mac book does not go to the sleep mode even if i close the monitor (LCD) lid down. Previously it did do so. The problem started a few days back.
tried reinstalling the OS 10.4.6. again but did not help. I have tried all other options of safe booting / boooting from the install dvd's.. but doesnt help...
Could any one suggest something new.

  • MacBook Air 2013 battery drains quickly while in sleep mode

I just purchased a 13" mid-2013 MacBook Air this week, and so far everything is working well - a remarkable improvement over my 2007 MacBook! But, I've noticed that the battery seems to drain very quickly while in sleep mode. For example, it drained 10% over five hours. I've turned off bluetooth and made sure that the PowerNap option is not selected under Energy Saver preferences. And the battery health/capacity seems to be good. Are there other things that I should turn off/check out? Has anyone else experienced this? Is this even abnormal for the battery to drain at this rate while in sleep mode? Thank you!!

  • IPhone Drains battery when mac sleeps

Couldn't find any other topics about this, just wondering if anybody else sees this or knows why this happens.
My iphone (1st gen 2G) charges fine, can charge with wall adapter or adapter plugged into usb on mac.
I prefer to just plug it into the mac, let it sync then leave it. What I have noticed though is if the mac goes to sleep - say I leave the phone overnight and the mac sleeps, when I look the following morning the battery gets drained. If I set the mac not to sleep this doesnt happen, if the phone is charged and left over noght not plugged in, it is fine, plugged into a wall charger no problem. It only happens if the mac is set to sleep.
I dont understand why the battery is drained by having it plugged into a mac that enters sleep mode? anybody got any clue why this happens?

I think that depends on the Mac and version of OS X you're using. On newer Macs the USB ports are left on so that you can use a USB keyboard or mouse to wake it up.
On my 24" Intel iMac I leave my iPhone charging via USB overnight while the computer is sleeping, but as the OP didn't mention exactly which iMac and which OS, I can't say what the issue might be.

  • Heating Up & Draining battery fast on iPhone 5s after iOS 7.1 update

    Hi,
I updated my iPhone 5s 64GB to iOS 7.1 & it's heating up and draining battery so fast not to mention when I charge it , it takes longer time to charge!
I didn't have this issue before on the previous version. I tried restoring my iPhone two times & also rebooting my iPhone five times, but nothing works!
I've looked in other complaints and some of them suggested to switch off background app refresh and locations!
I didn't have this issue before and I won't turn them off because if the problem because of it then I should experience the same problem on the previous version and why would I turn it off? So what's the purpose of the phone?
My wife, my sister, my brother & my mom they got an iPhone 5 and they don't experience this problem except me!
My iPad Air and my wife iPad Mini 2( Retina Display) and there is no problem with the iOS 7.1 .
I've looked in other websites and found that there are other people experiencing the same problem. Apple should fix this problem ASAP!
Is there anyone experiencing the same problem and what did he/she do to fix it incase he/she fixed it !

I don't have any issues with my 5S on 7.1
Have you actually taken your phone to the Apple store and have them look at it?
Even if you don't want to turn off background app refresh,  you should turn it off and see what the results are.
also you said you restored twice, did you restore as NEW?

  • MacBook Pro doesn't go into sleep mode after connecting Thunderbolt display

    Hi,
after connecting a Thunderbolt display to the 2011 MacBook Pro 13", the system doesn't stay in sleep mode.
When pressing cmd.alt.eject it goes into sleep for 1 or 2 seconds and then goes back on.
everything works fine otherwise and the MacBook goes to sleep without problems if the Thunderbolt display is not attached.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jordi

    I found the problem.
It turns out that it has nothing to do with the Thunderbolt Display, but with Bluetooth and the Magic Trackpad.
When I installed the TD, I also added a wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad that I had been using with another system.
If the option to allow the system to wake up by Bluetooth devices is enabled (system preferences, Bluetooth, advanced), the MacBook Pro will go to sleep and immediately wake up.
Simply disabled that option and everything works fine.
Now I need to open the lid of the MBP to wake up the system. Kind of a huge power button :-)
    Thanks for your help!
    Jordi

  • Late 2013 retina MacBook Pro constantly restarting when in sleep mode

So I just got my brand new specced out retina MacBook Pro in the mail last night. I began setting it up but didn't finish before I had to go to bed. I left it with the screen closed (and assumed it would go into sleep mode soon after), an external hard drive hooked up, and plugged into the power adapter, and went to bed. During the night, it woke me up perhaps 10 times or so by making the startup sound and spinning up the external drive. The only time a Mac makes that sound is when it starts up, so as far as I can tell, it kept crashing during the night (presumably from trying to wake to do stuff in power nap mode), starting up, going to sleep, and repeating the cycle. When I turned it on in the morning, it gave me a message saying that it restarted due to a sleep to wake failure. Is this a known issue? Is there a way to fix it? Is the laptop defective? Or is it a software issue? Should I take it into an Apple store to figure it out?

You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.  Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems.
