Yoga 2 Pro poor performance in all modes

I have noticed that when I use my Yoga in laptop mode it functions very well, however in any other mode it acts differently, the videos won't stream without lagging, there is a delayed screen response after a touch, pages take a while to load up fully. Should I need an update or is this something inherent within my model?
It means that I have not been able to use the Yoga as I would have liked on a few occasions. I would appreciate any feedback, before I decide to call customer services / send the model off for a look over.
Thanks

Sounds like it could be DPTF throttling the CPU?  Can you deactivate DPTF and see if that helps?

  • Yoga 2 Pro tablet performance is slow

I don't know why, but the performance for my new Yoga 2 Pro is extremely slow when in Tablet Mode. It runs perfectly when in laptop mode. The performance is also poor in Stand mode and Tent mode. Is there a way to fix this or is this how it is suppossed to be? Please hellp if you know of a way to fix this. Thank you!

    Luffy,
While there could be other potential causes, I suspect you are seeing the effects of DPTF which reduces CPU and some other functions when in modes other than conventional laptop.
This has been discussed in multiple threads in the forum.   Since it is part of the system design, I can't advise you to disable it, but it can be disabled to allowed higher CPU performance in other modes.
Here is a related thread on this from prior Yoga models.

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Frequent issues after Tablet Mode and Suspend in Windows 8.1

    Hi,
I bought a Yoga 2 Pro running windows 8.1 in December 2013. The machine runs fine, but from the beginning I experience frequent system issues whenever I have the Yoga in Tablet mode (display turned to the back).
The issues sometimes arise directly after I resume from tablet mode. More frequent the issues appear once I had the machine in tablet mode and after had it in suspend mode!
Some of the frequent issues that arise after I resume from tablet mode:
Power surge at right USB Port, where I have my mouse connected! The connected device cannot be provided with enough power. (Note, the left port still works), or
WiFi not working any more (No WLAN device detected, WLAN not functional), or
Bluetooth not working (No Bluetooth device detected, BT not functional)
All issues reliably disappear with a system restart!
I have already updated my drivers, scanned the Lenovo and Microsoft forum whether this is known without success and hope this avenue will bring me more luck.
What makes the bug hard to narrow down is that I do not have a recipe to reproduce the error. Not every time I turn the display in tablet mode the symptoms are equal! But what I can is that the tablet mode is the most common denominator I found so far.
    Any helped/suggestions much appreciated.
    Regards
       Florian

Yea, great... it seems like these articles and suggestions come up in the forum, and then there is always someone that says "it didn't work but this solved it for me" which ammounts to setting the screen at full brightness all the time.   LENOVO, HOW ABOUT FIXING THE ISSUE!!!  It definitly has something to do with power, in my case _the only_ thing that fixes it is either plugging in a power cord or closing the screen, reopening it and hitthing the power button to turn it back on (both are REALLY annoying if you're trying to get work done).
I'm a fairly experienced IT guy, and I used to swear by _IBM_ Thinkpads and related laptops, then when they went to Lenovo a few years ago it seems like the support has gone to hell and the hardware appears nice but is sketchy (this thing should have never shipped with this display problem or the wifi card issues that it shipped with).   Honestly if issues like this don't get resolved Im not likely to order any more, ever.  Not for my self or for my organization, we will stop persueing contracts with you and certifying the hardware for our work (though with the lenovo purchase it was deemed that the hardware wasn't certifyable for certine applications anyway).  Yes, that will cost you a few thousand sales a year, which is  a drop in the bucket for you, but I'm sure I won't be the only one.

  • Yoga 2 Pro: Enable keyboard in tablet mode

Hi everyone. I'm very new here. I just got my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro i7 8GB last month. And I'm wondering if it's possible for the keyboard to be enabled while in tablet mode. Since I wanna make it as my external keyboard and I'm gonna use an external monitor for bigger screen through MicroHDMI-HDMI connection. Please let me know how to do it. I hope someone can help me here. Thank you

Thank You Indest! I can't help you as I am a linux user.
I've installed Gnome Ubuntu 14.04 on my Y2P and I'm facing the same issue as windows users.
Keyboard is disabled in tablet mode for me too. That's why I've been thinking that is because of an hardware configuration rather than software.
Anyway, if there is any window user willing to help, that would be great.
Much better if Lenovo FINALLY ANSWERS this question!!! Boy, that's not a customer oriented approach. Rewrite your corporate brochures and take out that you care about customers. Lol

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Youtube Controls in Tablet mode

    Hello,
So ive had my Yoga 2 pro for a couple weeks now. I am running into an issue where when im watching a youtube video I cant use the touch screen to contol youtube. The play pause button, full screen and the seek feature of youtube cannot be used in tablet mode or any mode where the keyboard is disabled. The only way to watch youtube it seems is to switch back to laptop mode.
Please let me know if there is a fix or anything of the sort
    Thanks

  • Yoga 2 Pro rotation too sensitive & stand mode not working

In tablet mode the Yoga 2 Pro is too sensitive. It seems to rotate for the smallest thing. You have to hold it vertically in order to prevent it from rotating.
In stand mode, the image is always upside down. I cannot get it rotated, even after pressing the rotate lock button several times. It's fairly difficult to get the screen right.
I am a experienced Yoga 13 owner which works perfectly. I am worried about the sensitivity of the Yoga 2 Pro and the fact the image is always upside down in stand mode.
I am on a clean factory install, no modified drivers.

    A reinstall didn't work.
So presumably the sensor board is faulty.
Where can I buy the sensor board? (page 64)
    http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_yoga_2_pro_hmm.pdf
Or maybe the sensor board is installed upside down if this is possible. Maybe it's flipped vertically. Because the sides are working just fine!

  • Radeon 9700 Pro - poor performance

I am having a lot of problem getting my new Radeon 9700 Pro to perform anywhere near its capablities!
    My system:
    MS6340M V5.0   - with latest Via driver.
    AMD Athlon 1 Ghz
    512Meg 133Mhz sdram
    3D mark 2001SE score 5300   :(
Firstly I booted up with a 230w PSU and it worked ok, but have replace with a 300w PSU which didn't make any difference.
I have reduced my Radeon quality settings to mininal, but there is no noticeable difference.
I realise that the MS-6340 is only 4x AGP, with a 'slow' processor, but I should be seeing higher frame rates than  10 - 30 FPS on Americas Army, or Unreal Tournament 20-40 FPS ?
    Any ideas?

Your problem is the 1ghz processor and your 133 Ram.  I'm running a GF4 ti 4200 64mb from MSI, not overclocked, with athlon 2200 and 256mb of pc2100 crucial.  My 3D mark scores are over 11k.  Your bottleneck is the processor.  You'd probably get the same scores with a GF3.

  • MacBook Pro poor performance in relation to NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

Hi All who may be having similar issues.
I am now on my third replacement custom Macbook Pro 2.66GHz with 7200rpm hardrive and 4Gb of ram, and yes am so peeved that this has happened again. I am aware of the article in the 'Inquirer' about the 'bad bumps' of the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT in these machines and realise it is not all but from the various postings and refurbished MacBook Pro's... quite a volume!
First off i also own an older powerPC imac 1.8GHz 2GB Ram and at my work use a 3.0GHz Mac Pro with 6Gb of Ram and a 2008 imac intel 2.4GHz with 4Gb of Ram. I am fully competent and primarily use for photographic programs such as capture one, photoshop, lightroom, Aperture and these new MacBook Pro modes has failed me in so many ways
I have read many threads regarding the possible reasons for why these cards are failing or at fault, and am encountering an attitude from apple that sees this problem as unique to me. Obviously not as from when i google or go into the discussion rooms
    the issue?
make sure you are on the higher performance graphics card.
simple test.. take a screen grab( of anything in safari or even of the desktop) and press fn+F11 or however you configure your keypad to go to the desktop. you may notice nothing happens.. try again.. wait. you will see a delay and the commands follow when the computer catches up.
if all my other computers i use can do the easiest of tasks why can't this? seems incredible to me!
also after installing any of the above mentioned software and beginning processing raw files(in all the programs to make sure there was no software issue) the computer becomes very hot.. i get beach balling and regular crashes.. also the fact that my computers at work seem to work amazingly well with the above software versions. To add note, all machines have up to date apple software.
In the first machine i had it got so bad the dock disappeared and spaces crashed..the track pad froze and that was it. it took forever to start up and shut down.. it appeared to work on the lower performance setting intially but over time became buggy and crashed on that side too!
these last 2 models have behaved exactly the same... all the same custom configurations i have mentioned above. But i have recognised the problem straight off and asked apple for replacements.. i am now on the third and will call them tomorrow with the same issue. I just want a machine that works smoothly and reflects the price i have paid for it.
Has anyone else experiences this? any support or advice would be deeply appreciated.. i can't keep getting dodgy Shanghi custom models!!

I read your thread Nee Kun.. and thanks, yes that is the basics of my problem, but that is just a major signal that something is seriously wrong. The screen grab is the first test to see if a new MacBook Pro computer may have this underlying issue. what i found with my first 2 models was, this issue then developed into all the other issues i have described in my original post, so its not really the screen grab i am bothered about... however annoying it is.. but the fact that these machines over time on the higher performance graphics card become disfunctional and crash periodically say every 20 min of light photography retouching and processing then there is something that is fundamentally flawed in these over priced and under tested machines. i'm not a happy bunny.
However, I have been in discussions with apple and they are listening to my issue and we are trying to resolved it, but if not... it will have to be some form of compensation as i simply cannot do any high end work on these machines that a 3yr old powerbook, 5 yr power PC imac and all all the new range of imacs and mac pro's i have access to can! it is utterly bewildering!
hmmmm... will post an update as and when.

  • Yoga 2 Pro upgrade to Win10 & all printing fails

I just recently upgraded to WIndows 10 and can no longer print.  The print dialog box never appears and any program I use just hangs until "not reponding."  I have also tried to check for upgraded drivers and searching for those on the internet through Device Manager results in the same hang up.Any ideas as to how to fix this? ThanksPaul

A/ Just make sure they are on the same subnet. Sometimes you have to wait for a couple of minutes for them to 'see' eachother
B/ Do you have an anti-virus or firewall active?
C/ Also check that file sharing is enabled for the Y2P"
    1. Open Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
    2. Change advanced sharing settings
    3. Turn on 'Network Discovery' for private or public networks depending on how you configured your network at home on the Y2P.

  • Yoga 2 Pro tablet mode issue in Win 10

I updated my Yoga 2 Pro to Windows 10. It is working fine in Desktop mode. However in table mode when it is flipped over to tablet or tent positions the performance is very pure (slow and intermittent, broken) . Once the screen is back to the laptop position the performance is as expected. Can someone please advice how this can be fixed ? thnaks in advance.

Hi rys,This is what I have so far.A) You are not alone. I and many other have reported this problem in other threads. In all other modes than laptop mode the CPU slows down making the PC unusable in tablet or tent mode. I just recently bought the yoga 2 pro for it's tent mode so this is very frustrating.B) Problem seems to be the DPTF driver. It's job is to detect when you are in tablet or tent mode and reduce the CPU speed (a bit) to prevent over-heating. The problem is it is too aggresive slowing my CPU to .75ghz.C) One obvious solution is to disable DPTF via BIOS. Those who did report succes. There PCs are now fast in all modes. I'm hesitating ... Don't want to disable but might have to ... The effects of disabling DPTF as I understand them are: PC gets hot, shorter battery life.D) The correct solution would be a new DPTF driver for windows 10 making the CPU runs at least at 1ghz. Hoping LENOVO realizes how many YOGA 2 Pro they sold with the "feature" of being able to switch from laptop to tablet to tent modes. Hoping LENOVO comes up with a solution.

  • Yoga 2 Pro Tent Mode/Mode Switch Issues

Hi, I can't get my lenovo yoga 2 pro to go into tent mode. In fact, the screen won't even do a full 180 degree flip, but it will do a 90 degree flip to vertical (so I know the screen flip is working to a degree). Further, when switching to tablet mode, it says that it is in stand mode. Any thoughts? Thanks,Spencer

i had this problem out of the box.  The sensor which tells the Yoga which mode it is in and which way up was not working properly so that the screen was at 90 degrees to the right way up and it said tent when in tablet; laptop in tablet etc.  Researched it and saw that someone had resolved it by installaing Windows updates - but couldnt get Windows Update to work - it either found no updates or failed on install. I found that I needed to install updated drivers from the Lenovo support site (not sure which one did it, but it included a BIOS update, display driver and others), which then allowed Windows update to work.  Installed all outstanding updates and it now senses correctly.

  • Yoga 2 Pro Won't Go To Sleep in Presentation Mode

If I put the Yoga 2 Pro to sleep in Presentation Mode the screen will go dark for a second but then immediately light back up to the lock screen. I haven't had any trouble getting it to sleep in other modes (laptop, tent, tablet). Have others had this problem? Is this a bug or a 'feature'?

    Er-Jee wrote:
You don't want your laptop to go into sleep while presenting, so probably it's a feature.
That you ain't moving the mouse, doesn't mean you ain't talking about what's on the screen.
I could understand that if it only were the case of when it automatically goes to sleep, but I'm talking about manually telling the PC to go to sleep: Charms > Settings > Power > Sleep. If I tell a computer to go to sleep, regardless of what 'mode' it's in, it should go to sleep and stay asleep.

  • Yoga 2 Pro display/screen wobble in laptop or stand mode

Been looking around but can't find anyone mentioning the screen/display wobble when using the yoga 2 pro in laptop or stand mode.  That baffles me.  I tried normal touching on the screen on the Yoga 2 Pro at Best Buy in laptop and stand modes and the display bounces back and forth horribly.  I can't believe this wouldn't be a deal breaker for many people unless most people just aren't using the touch screen (in those modes) that much.  And if they aren't, what's the point of having the touch screen (other than tablet mode).  Windows 8 is meant to be used with a touch screen in ANY mode.
So, can anyone comment on their experiences with a wobbling/bouncing screen/display?

Hmmm.  Wonder if you've actually used the Yoga 2 Pro.  Or maybe you're trying a little too hard to defend your expensive purchase.  Either way, calm down, buddy.  This system seems nice, just not for me with that wobble when *BARELY* touching the screen.  The Surface Pro 2 solves the issue with a backstand.  The Samsung Ativ series doesn't seem to have this issue.  And, yes, both of those are comparable systems.
I actually searched a little longer and DID find others complaining about it on the Yoga 2 Pro.  It may not be a dealbreaker for you, but it is for some.  Its irrelevant if it "comes with the territory...for this form factor" if it distracts *enough* from its usefulness (and thats putting it nicely).

  • Poor Performance with Fairpoint DSL

I started using Verizon DSL for my internet connection and had no problems. When Fairpoint Communications purchased Verizon (this is in Vermont), they took over the DSL (about May 2009). Since then, I have had very poor performance with all applications as soon as I start a browser. The performance problems occur regardless of the browser - I've tried Firefox (3.5.4), Safari (4.0.3) and Opera (10.0). I've been around and around with Fairpoint for 6 months with no resolution. I have not changed any software or hardware on my Mac during that time, except for updating the browsers and Apple updates to the OS, iTunes, etc. The performance problems continued right through these updates. I've run tests to check my internet speed and get times of 2.76Mbps (download) and 0.58Mbps (upload) which are within the specified limits for the DSL service. My Mac is a 2GHz PowerPC G5 runnning OSX 10.4.11. It has 512MB DDR SDRAM. I use a Westell Model 6100 modem for the DSL provided by Verizon.
Some of the specific problems I see are:
    1. very long waits of more than a minute after a click on an item in the menu bar
    2. very long waits of more than two minutes after a click on an item on a browser page
    3. frequent pinwheels in response to a click on a menu item/browser page item
    4. frequent pinwheels if I just move the mouse without a click
    5. frequent messages for stopped/unresponsive scripts
    6. videos (like YouTube) stop frequently for no reason; after several minutes, I'll get a little audio but no new video; eventually after several more minutes it will get going again (both video and audio)
    7. response in non-browser applications is also very slow
    8. sometimes will get no response at all to a mouse click
    9. trying to run more than one browser at a time will bring the Mac to its knees
    10. browser pages frequently take several minutes to load
These are just some of the problems I have.
These problems all go away and everything runs fine as soon as I stop the browser. If I start the browser, they immediately surface again. I've trying clearing the cache, etc with no improvements.
What I would like to do is find a way to determine if the problem is in my Mac or with the Fairpoint service. Since I had no problems with Verizon and have made no changes to my Mac, I really suspect the problem lies with Fairpoint. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

    1) Another thing that you could try it is deleting the preference files for networking. Mac OS will regenerate these files. You would then need to reconfigure your network settings.
The list of files comes from Mac OS X 10.4.

    2) I think it is time to do a clean install of your system.
    3) It's either the software or an intermittent hardware problem.
If money isn't an issue, I suggest an external harddrive for re-installing Mac OS.
You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer.
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
The latest the hard drive enclosures support the newer serial ata drives. The drive and closure that I list supports only older parallel ata.
    Has everything interface:
    FireWire 800/400 + USB2, + eSATA 'Quad Interface'
    save a little money interface:
    FireWire 400 + USB 2.0
This web page lists both external harddrive types. You may need to scroll to the right to see both.
