Yoga 2 Pro vs Thinkpad Tablet 2

Hi Lenovos,
I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro tablet which I got as a gift and I'm rarely using it coz of the size and Android. I'm Web a Developer so to do some on-the-go coding, I thought to exchange this with a portable windows tablet and I got some offers from Thinkpad Tablet owners. Neither Thinkpad Tablet nor Yoga Tablet 2 pro are selling in my region so I dont have the proper idea about the actual region based price.
Is it worth to exchange my Yoga Tablet 2 pro with a 64GB Thinkpad tablet? I know my one has a good display and additional features such as Projector, Subwoofer, stand etc.. but what is the point if I'm not using them. If you were me, would you consider exchange this?
Regards

How about the Yoga 2 10 with Windows?  Same size , boasts the same processor and RAM as the Yoga Tablet Pro 2.  It has 32 Gb of internal storage, but you can add a MicroSD card for an additional 64 Gb.
The Thinkpad 2 if I'm not mistaken has a 2 year older processor (Z2760) than the Yoga Tablet's Z3745.  The Z3745 processor supports 64 bit OS's and features the SSE 4.1/ SSE4.2 instruction set.

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Frequent issues after Tablet Mode and Suspend in Windows 8.1

    Hi,
I bought a Yoga 2 Pro running windows 8.1 in December 2013. The machine runs fine, but from the beginning I experience frequent system issues whenever I have the Yoga in Tablet mode (display turned to the back).
The issues sometimes arise directly after I resume from tablet mode. More frequent the issues appear once I had the machine in tablet mode and after had it in suspend mode!
Some of the frequent issues that arise after I resume from tablet mode:
Power surge at right USB Port, where I have my mouse connected! The connected device cannot be provided with enough power. (Note, the left port still works), or
WiFi not working any more (No WLAN device detected, WLAN not functional), or
Bluetooth not working (No Bluetooth device detected, BT not functional)
All issues reliably disappear with a system restart!
I have already updated my drivers, scanned the Lenovo and Microsoft forum whether this is known without success and hope this avenue will bring me more luck.
What makes the bug hard to narrow down is that I do not have a recipe to reproduce the error. Not every time I turn the display in tablet mode the symptoms are equal! But what I can is that the tablet mode is the most common denominator I found so far.
    Any helped/suggestions much appreciated.
    Regards
       Florian

Yea, great... it seems like these articles and suggestions come up in the forum, and then there is always someone that says "it didn't work but this solved it for me" which ammounts to setting the screen at full brightness all the time.   LENOVO, HOW ABOUT FIXING THE ISSUE!!!  It definitly has something to do with power, in my case _the only_ thing that fixes it is either plugging in a power cord or closing the screen, reopening it and hitthing the power button to turn it back on (both are REALLY annoying if you're trying to get work done).
I'm a fairly experienced IT guy, and I used to swear by _IBM_ Thinkpads and related laptops, then when they went to Lenovo a few years ago it seems like the support has gone to hell and the hardware appears nice but is sketchy (this thing should have never shipped with this display problem or the wifi card issues that it shipped with).   Honestly if issues like this don't get resolved Im not likely to order any more, ever.  Not for my self or for my organization, we will stop persueing contracts with you and certifying the hardware for our work (though with the lenovo purchase it was deemed that the hardware wasn't certifyable for certine applications anyway).  Yes, that will cost you a few thousand sales a year, which is  a drop in the bucket for you, but I'm sure I won't be the only one.

  • Yoga 2 Pro tablet performance is slow

I don't know why, but the performance for my new Yoga 2 Pro is extremely slow when in Tablet Mode. It runs perfectly when in laptop mode. The performance is also poor in Stand mode and Tent mode. Is there a way to fix this or is this how it is suppossed to be? Please hellp if you know of a way to fix this. Thank you!

    Luffy,
While there could be other potential causes, I suspect you are seeing the effects of DPTF which reduces CPU and some other functions when in modes other than conventional laptop.
This has been discussed in multiple threads in the forum.   Since it is part of the system design, I can't advise you to disable it, but it can be disabled to allowed higher CPU performance in other modes.
Here is a related thread on this from prior Yoga models.

  • Thinkpad Tablet 2 issues with installing Windows 8.1 Pro

I have a Thinkpad Tablet 2 and haveput the 32 bit version of Windows 8.1 Pro onto a USB drive. In BIOS, my tablet identifies the drive correctly and I have successfully put given it the highest boot priority. When I start up with the USB drive in, the install for Windows 8.1 shows up. However, at this install I am unable to interact with what is displayed on the screen at all. I have tried using the physical buttons on the tablet, tapping the screen, and even a bluetooth keyboard (which I get the feeling won't work without drivers). Do I maybe have the wrong kind of install? I used the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and also followed some instructions I saw on this forum that involved use of the command prompt to create a partition on the USB Drive (I can't seem to find them again).
I'm sorry if this question has been addressed before; I am new to this forum and my attempts to search for this problem have yielded no results.

You'll need a USB keyboard to navigate the BIOS. See

At times, the Lenovo driver comes with serious bugs that never gets fixed. The trackpad and wifi driver are perfect example of such drivers. Do you know how sad it is that I am using a DELL trackpad driver on my Yoga?

    Hi indest,
I understand you and the users frustration. I agree that sometimes things just do not work as they should. Anyway, thanks for bringing up the issues. I'll need to check into the trackpad thread before escalate this case in full to engineering.
In regard to the WiFi issue, we had escalated this case much earlier but due to this model comes with different wifi card as well as situation changes based on different routers used, it was very difficult for the enginering team to pin point out the real root case. I'm sorry that it haas been dragged this long. But based on the information I have currently, our engineering team is testing on a beta driver provided by Intel and we're also trying to get affected machines as a sample for our further analysis. I'll need to catch up with a few folks in regard to this issue.

  • Yoga 2 Pro: Enable keyboard in tablet mode

Hi everyone. I'm very new here. I just got my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro i7 8GB last month. And I'm wondering if it's possible for the keyboard to be enabled while in tablet mode. Since I wanna make it as my external keyboard and I'm gonna use an external monitor for bigger screen through MicroHDMI-HDMI connection. Please let me know how to do it. I hope someone can help me here. Thank you

Thank You Indest! I can't help you as I am a linux user.
I've installed Gnome Ubuntu 14.04 on my Y2P and I'm facing the same issue as windows users.
Keyboard is disabled in tablet mode for me too. That's why I've been thinking that is because of an hardware configuration rather than software.
Anyway, if there is any window user willing to help, that would be great.
Much better if Lenovo FINALLY ANSWERS this question!!! Boy, that's not a customer oriented approach. Rewrite your corporate brochures and take out that you care about customers. Lol

  • Yoga 2 Pro tablet mode issue in Win 10

I updated my Yoga 2 Pro to Windows 10. It is working fine in Desktop mode. However in table mode when it is flipped over to tablet or tent positions the performance is very pure (slow and intermittent, broken) . Once the screen is back to the laptop position the performance is as expected. Can someone please advice how this can be fixed ? thnaks in advance.

Hi rys,This is what I have so far.A) You are not alone. I and many other have reported this problem in other threads. In all other modes than laptop mode the CPU slows down making the PC unusable in tablet or tent mode. I just recently bought the yoga 2 pro for it's tent mode so this is very frustrating.B) Problem seems to be the DPTF driver. It's job is to detect when you are in tablet or tent mode and reduce the CPU speed (a bit) to prevent over-heating. The problem is it is too aggresive slowing my CPU to .75ghz.C) One obvious solution is to disable DPTF via BIOS. Those who did report succes. There PCs are now fast in all modes. I'm hesitating ... Don't want to disable but might have to ... The effects of disabling DPTF as I understand them are: PC gets hot, shorter battery life.D) The correct solution would be a new DPTF driver for windows 10 making the CPU runs at least at 1ghz. Hoping LENOVO realizes how many YOGA 2 Pro they sold with the "feature" of being able to switch from laptop to tablet to tent modes. Hoping LENOVO comes up with a solution.

  • Yoga 2 Pro: Tablet mode enabled by closing the laptop and crashing minimized store apps

Since clean installing Windows 10 on my Yoga 2 Pro I'm experiencing Store apps to become a complete white useless windows after waking up the device from standby. Further investigation brought up the following perceptions:
    1) This only happens with Store apps minimized to the taskbar before getting the device into standby; Win32 apps are not affected
    2) This only happens if the standby is initialized by closing the laptop and NOT manually through the start menu 3) The Problem also only occurs if the machine is set up to be locked automatically after waking up (default setting in Windows 10 is not to be locked btw.)
The second one got me wondered. After some puzzling around I remembered that I - as a Windows Insider - some time ago observed that the tablet mode in Windows 10 is initialized even if the screen is almost closed. Back then I tested this also on my installation of Windows 8.1 and came to the conclusion that even there the keyboard and touchpad get disabled by nearly closing the laptop. Back then there was no tablet mode so that it was not noticeable at first sight but could be tested by using the touchpad and keyboard with the screen close to the keyboard.
So ymc.exe as part of Lenovo Transition 2.0 seems not able to detect in which direction the screen is rotated. There seems to be some angle at which the mechanism is initialized regardless whether the screen is rotated AROUND the machine for using the tent or tablet mode OR rotated CLOSE to the keyboard. This seems by design.
Problem with this for Windows 10 is: It's getting Store apps crashed that are minimized to the taskbar if the option to always switch to tablet mode automatically is ticked on and the machine is locked after waking up from standby because the machine changes into tablet mode before sleeping down and changes back to desktop mode if waking up. It seems like minimized Store apps don't support this kind of behavior and are getting totally blank and unusable.
I clean installed Windows 10 from scratch and everything is set up the right way. I have an secondary Installation of Windows 10 for testing purposes (Insider Preview) on a secondary partition of this machine that is set up with the same Windows 10 release build and am able to reproduce this behavior there, too.
Workaround for now is to disable the option to change the mode automatically or to lower security by setting up the machine not to be locked after waking up from standby. Even with the latter this behavior of the device is at least unattractive as Windows and/or the start menu get resized all of a sudden after waking up the device.
Is it technically possible for a newer version of Lenovo Transition to be able to invoke the tablet mode only if the screen is rotated around the device and not by closing the laptop to prevent minimized Store apps from getting blank and unusable?-----Post edited to add the Point 3.

There is Sensor devices tab there.
Can you post a screenshot of how that is looking?

  • Poorly designed Yoga 3 Pro keyboard workaround

Several users have been griping about the keyboard of the Yoga 3 Pro. Also certain reviewers have lambasted it (e.g. Gizmodo).
First, the physical side of it is lacking for the typical quality you expect from premium Lenovo laptops (e.g. Thinkpad). The keys do not travel much and it is easy to make mistakes -- I would say my typing errors have increased on the magnitude of 50% versus a X series Thinkpad (pre-chiclet keys).
Second, and the main point of this post, is that several keys are either missing (e.g. Insert) or relegated to Fn key combinations (F1 through to F12, Home and End). Meanwhile, there is AMPLE room for more keys in this form factor. For example on X series Thinkpads, they had keys right up to the edge of the device, and were able to put in a full 2 rows of Ins/Del Home/End PgUp/PgDn, like on a full-sized keyboard.
As a result, typing on this keyboard is a real pain both physically, and in software terms since certain OS functions ask you to press keys that don't exist (e.g. Insert on the pre-boot Bitlocker screen -- sorry no Insert key!). Certain common keyboard commands become awkward now because of needing to add in the extra Fn+ combination (e.g. ALT+F4 to close a program, or F5 to refresh a web page).
But by far one of the most annoying features is co-locating Home with PgUp and End with PgDn, i.e. you need to press Fn+PgUp to get Home. Home/End is a very efficient mechanism in wordprocessing to quickly get to the beginning and end of sentences, beginning and end of cells in Excel when editing formulas, etc. F2 to quickly edit a cell in Excel without clicking the mouse -- now you must use a combination to get to it. If you do frequent word processing, this keyboard will frustrate you as a result.
Meanwhile, Print Screen gets a full key?!? I could see that key as one becoming a Fn combination, since there is no potential for a user to frequently and repeatedly press Print Screen. I seriously wonder if the person/team that designed this layout tested it at all with users "in the field" who actually TYPE.
Anyway, there is a workaround of sorts depending on which keys you prefer to have direct access to. You can remap keys using the Windows registry and something called a Scancode Map.
For example, I myself have noticed that Home/End are more important for me than PgUp/PgDn in terms of quick access, as I do use them extensively for editing documents. So, for example, you can use the registry to remap those keys and switch them around -- that is, Home to PgUp, PgUp to Home, End to PgDn, PgDn to End. So now, when you press the PgUp key, you are actually pressing Home.
If you don't use Caps Lock or Print Screen for example, you can reassign them to other keys you do (e.g. Insert, or any other key actually).
The process is described in the link below, and the author has a specific example of remapping the Home/PgUp, End/PgDn keys:
    http://www.thatsgeeky.com/2010/11/keyboard-annoyances/

I tried that I got some sort of error saying it's not compatible with my system.  I ended up doing a restore, and one by one tracking down which program is needed in order for the system to disable the keyboard and trackpad appropriately.
It ended up being Lenovo Harmony:
    http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/wwha020e.exe
It seems you need Harmony if you'd like them to be disabled in stand, tent, and tablet mode.
    Thanks for the help, anyway.

  • Keyboard Yoga 3 pro doesnt work

    hi
friday i receive my yoga 3 pro. On Saturday i start to configure it. and start to install the windows updates. after many restarts the updates were finished. then i want to start to install my programs, but the keyboard didnt work. and the notebook was very slowly! so i restart, but same problem again. i search for a solution, i only find one thread were the new graphcis driver was the fault! but windows update and i didnt install a new driver! so i recovery the system, but same problem. i can use the touchscreen keyboard and and an usb keyboard without any problems! sometimes the touchpad also didnt work!
    hardware fault?
    thank you

    Hello,
It's a guess, but I think it could be the Harmony software turning it off.
This software is supposed to turn off your keyboard when in tablet mode.
Can you please run it in notebook mode, make sure the Harmony software is on, rotate the screen all the way into tablet mode, switch it back to notebook mode and see if it's working. Also, please pay attention to the top right hand corner of the screen. Harmony should indicate it's changing profiles while you move the screen. If it's not- it might be the sensor that detects the position of the screen.
If that doesn't work there might be a factory fault in your unit. In that case use the warranty to have it fixed or replaced.
Feel free to ask me about general PC issues, Ideapads, and Thinkpads.

  • Yoga 2 Pro Install Windows 8 on a Android 4.4 Version

    Hello Community!
Ich got a Yoga 2 Pro with Android 4.4. It was a Chrismas present. For my work I prefer a Windows Version for all the application.
It is possible to install myself a Windows 8 RT Version on the tablet? I saw a few US- Version of the Yoga 2 so I think the technical side must be fulfilled. Unfortunately there is no USB Port on the Tablet so I must installed directly on a SD Card.
    Thank you for you suggestions.

  • Yoga 3 Pro Battery Charging Problems

I've combined several discussions into one because there are multiple cross-overs of symptoms.
After reviewing all the posts, I see there are two types of problems discussed:
Battery charging but only to a certain percentage
    Battery intermittently charging
Several people have reported success with their limited battery percentage problem by following the solutions suggested by MarinM and Vladtech.
For the intermittent charging, several people have reported that sometimes the battery charges, sometimes it doesn't. I'd like to dig into these reports. I have a few questions I'd like to ask.
When does it charge, when does it not?
Are there any patterns to this?
Does swapping electrical outlets make a difference?
Does the USB 2.0 charging port appear loose?
Does the cable show any signs of damage?
Does the AC adapter show any signs of damage?
When a second device is plugged into the extra USB port on the AC Adapter, does this impact Y3P charging?
Are there any battery error messages?
    Thank you for your help,
