Yoga 3 pro cant restart without power connected.

I am hoping to get my problem solved because i am abroad.
Aftes the y3p goes to sleep or is **bleep** down mostly in some hours it can only be restarted with power connected (and that feature is not enabled in OkO). When it is up again the battery show the charge as when it was closed down.
If i sent it to sleep and restart it seems ok.
I have upgrade bios and try to recover.
Earlier when got the machine the battery status shows Strange value.
Hope somebody can help.

A better description of the problem is:
1. In any mode it could suddenly shut down (power save, balanced, high performance).
2. Sometimes the sleep function and normal shut-down/up works, and I can restart without problem.
3. But many times it can’t boot without connecting the power supply (and that is without enable that special feature in OKO). Especially if it stands some hours it wont boot.
4. When rebooting with power supply, the battery status show 0% after a while 100% (even the battery when it was shut down was ex. 65)….after a while the status show 65% again.
All in all I haven’t used in longer time because the problem are very annoying, and unacceptable.
I tried to make factory recovery and upgrade the bios.
Later on after some full recovery actions it is now changed a little from before. Point 1-3 is still the same, but now the battery always shows the same status as when it was shut-down, put on sleep etc. but still power connections is mostly needed before it reboots.
Sadly it seem like nobody have similar problems and Lenovo can't give some advise/help, maybe it is just a defect machine.
Thanks.

  • Yoga 3 pro cant stream video on external display or laptop

Saw a previous post on this, didnt seem like it was fixed.  Having real issues with hooking up to an external display, when the web browser (chrome) is extended to the external display, my internet lags hard...i cant even stream a vid on youtube.
I've disabled realtek (fixed cracking speakers) tried a completely new cord set up from micro hdmi to dvi...nothing works.  When i drag the browser window back to the laptop screen, it works fine.
Ok, 5 min follow up:  it seems im now having the similar issue with streaming video on my laptop screen....sound streams fine, the video seems to shake back and forth very quickly, runs, then shakes again...seems to only happen intermittenltly on the laptop...but display shows real lag and shake.

Have you tried changing the screen resolution on the Yoga to something lower than what it is set on? A 1080i screen has a resolution of 1,920 × 1,080, my Yoga 3 Pro has a default resolution of 3200 x 1800. I have not tried connecting my Y3P to the TV yet, but the conversion could be causing an issue.

  • Late 2011 Macbook Pro Restarts When Power Connected

I have a late 2011 Macbook Pro, 2.2 GHz with 8GB Ram with  OS X 10.8.2 and a series of unfortunate events.
When I connect the magsafe adapter to the computer, after it has been shut down completely overnight, with the lid closed, the Macbook attempts to restart. The restart fails beause the lid is closed but leaves my Macbook in an unstable state. Unless I do a PRAM reset whenever this happens, I will have at least one random shutdown, usually within the first  half hour of use after the computer restarts itself. I have also reset the SMC controller, checked the hard drive for errors and tested the memory. I have been careful to make sure that the computer shuts all of the way down before closing the lid and disconnecting power. As far as I can tell at this point, starting the computer on battery, and subsequently connecting the magsafe adapter, does not cause any problems.
I never saw this behavior until I installed Mountain Lion.

Run an Apple hardware test and see if that picks up any problems.  If this phenomenon is consistently repeatable, I recommend taking it to a repair facility for a diagnosis.  This clearly is not normal operation.  I hope that you might be still in the warrantee period.
    Ciao.

  • Operating in Lid Closed mode without power connected!

I was able to hook up my 17" ADC Studio display to my MacBook and operate with the built in display turned off, and with no power adapter. First close the lid of the the MacBook and let it go to sleep. Attach the monitor cable and using an external keyboard, wake the computer. Let the Display turn on and then open the lid on the MacBook. This will prevent the computer from going back to sleep. With the lid open you should still be running in a single display mode. You can check the displays preference pane to see that the computer only sees the external display. Hope this helps.
Power Mac G4 APG Graphics MacBook Pro 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I'm just wondering if it is bad to run the
MacBook with the adapter always plugged in.
If you read the battery guidelines it says this:
    "Exercise Your Machine
Lithium-ion batteries need to be used for maximum performance. If you don’t use your device often, be sure to complete a charge cycle at least once per month. Click the links below to add regular reminders to your iCal calendar."
So you should definitely run without the power adapter some of the time but you don't have to be crazy about it. As a matter of fact, batteries are consumable items. That means as you use them, they start to become less effective over time. So using them sparingly will extend the lifespan of the battery but use them occasionally to make sure they are exercised.

  • Speakers are not recognized while in OSX 10.7.3 can't restart without power button (don't know if they are related)

I am willing to split up the two symptoms if they are not related. But I know the speakers aren't broken because I hear the Bong noise at boot, but to my misfortune I made the mistake of deleting something (important I guess) in the Audio Midi Setup (Audio Devices window). I was trying to figure out how to split audio tracks between my headphones and speakers so I could listen to music in one ear while skyping (sounds stupid I know, but I stay on Skype with a long distance coworker most of the day). I guess some 17 hours ago when the failure happened I found on Google that there were sound settings in the Audio Midi Setup and had the great idea to go clicking around in there. Somehow deleted the black option thing (only got a quick look) when my computer lagged and then no more sound... I've been trying to fix it with stuff I found on google but I think I made it worse because now my macbook hangs on a black screen during the shutdown process when I choose to restart from the Apple Menu up there in the top left of my screen. I'm out of Ideas, I've tried clearing P & V rams or whatever several times and gone through almost every post on these forums and google that I can find that have any words relevant to what is the problem. After 15 hours of trying on my own I thought I'd ask for help.
Any additional info I can provide let me know please.
    Thank you.

I started having connectivity issues to my 10.6.8 server from my 10.7 client immediately after updating the client to 10.7.3. FWIW. Takes forever to connect, when it does. After just milliconds before.

  • Mac Pro sleep / restart issues - power management

    1) Firstly, I read the "solved" forum about the restart / sleep issues. Nothing worked for me but there were useful links:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macpro.html
You can post the report to Apple (as someone suggested)
    2) On a separate blog, a poster stated "I called Apple Support a little over a week ago and was told by the “product specialist” to delete three power management preference files. I did. The next morning after a night of sleep, I touched the space bar and the Mac promptly rebooted..."
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THESE THREE "power management" FILES ARE???
    Thank you

I just had a quality callback from Apple:
the files in question are located in :
    hd (startup harddrive)/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
(almost at the bottom of the list)
trash the entire SystemConfiguration folder, then restart.
NOTE: this will delete your airport settings for e.g. a home network (you need
to re-input the settings for the home network).
Thwy will call me back next week

  • Apple logo keeps flashing and i cant restart because power button is broken

My apple logo keeps flashing on my phone for about 10 seconds at a time. I know most of you will tell me to hold the power and home button but the problem is my power buttons broken. Also, plugging it into my wall and laptop won't do anything. I'm not sure what else to try, any advice is appreciated.

There really isn't anything to do.  You'll need to bring your phone to Apple for replacement.

  • Yoga 3 pro : problem connecting to HD TV with micro/mini HDMI to HDMI

I purchased a YOGA 3 PRO (512GB) and couldn't be happier with how light and slim this jewel is. The CPU works fast and overall it's a gret UltraBook.
    BUT
I just can't connect my Yoga 3 Pro to my TV. I purchased this Ultra Book at BEST BUY (this model is apparently an "exclusive" of Best Buy), and since I knew i need to connect it to an external monitor to do real work on photoshop, I also purchased an INSIGNIA micro-HDMI to HDMI cable.
As shown below, my 32" HD TV (one of the latest models from LG / ref. 32LB5800) is recognized by Windows 8.1 and the INTEL HD Graphics 5300 Display driver (which i updated to the latest version 10.18.10.3960), but unfortunately the TV says "NO SIGNAL".
    Link to image
I've tried to connect the Insighnia mini-HDMI to HDMI cable in all 3 HDMI inputs on my TV, but same pathetic result. The first input is HDMI ARC, the second one is regular HDMI and the third one is for mobile devices (HDMI MHL), but all 3 returned the same "NO SIGNAL".
So I figured maybe it was the TV. Thus i plugged my Yoga 3 Pro to a Pioneer Plasma TV that was about 3-4 years old, straight to one of HDMI inputs and same thing, no image. However, Windows 8.1 found the TV and even suggests the ideal resolution.
In both cases the TV model was found by Windows 8.1 and shown under the "Screen Resolution" menu. I selected "Extend these displays" to use the TV as a main monitor, but of course this doesn't help the case.
So i started digging this forum and read a lot of coomplaints about the previous version of the YOGA PRO and that the micro-HDMI plug was poorly designed and the cable connector needed to be "trimmed" a little by 1mm or so to allow it plug fully into the port. So i tried that too, and even though i succesfully removed 1mm of rubber around my Insignia cable connector, it didn't help whatsoever since apparently, the new YOGA 3 PRO doesn't have this issue any longer, its design solved indeed that weakness of its predecessor.
So I'm asking: what the hell is the problem then? it's driving me crazy. I've literrally spent the past 6 hours trying to figure it out, but without any success. This forum has ZERO post about a problem of connection of a YOGA 3 PRO to an HDTV. I know it's a very recent model, but still, I can't believe to be the only one experiencing this issue.
If I don't find a solution quickly I'm afraid I'll have no other choice but to return it. It's unbelievable that both the latest iterations of the LENOVO YOGA PRO are having issues (likely different) connecting to an HD TV using the mini/micor HDMI port.
Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem, but LENOVO better get their act together and fix this stat!
UPDATE: i also noticed that when the cable is plugged into the micro-HDMI port, there's no more sound on the ultrabook. I played a video while the cable was plugged in and NO SOUND. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. I would assume connecting the Yoga 3 Pro with the cable into the TV makes it believe that the sound shall be directed towards the TV now, hence the disabled sound on the Ultrabook, even though on the receiving side, the TV still doesn't get any signal from that cable, neither video nor audio.

well it turned out the culprit was the INSIGNIA Micro-HDMI to HDMI cable sold by Best Buy. I tried another cable brand and now it's working just fine! Go figure...

Unfortunately, you are describing the symptoms of an AirPort Extreme with a failing (or failed) internal power supply.
As a last resort, try a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Power off the AirPort by pulling the power cord
    Wait a minute or two
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort
Release the reset button and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Now try to configure the AirPort again.  If you continue to see the same symptoms as before, the AirPort will need to be replaced.

  • My Macbook Pro won't shut down or restart without forcing shut down. Hangs on grey screen. iTunes not recognizing iPod.

    HELP!!!
Here are the specs of my machine:
    2011 13.3" MacBook Pro
    4 GB Ram/320 GB HD
For the past several months my MacBook Pro refuses to shut down or restart without holding down the power button. Whenever I choose to restart or shut down the computer, it will hang on a grey screen. I have even tried letting it hang for an hour, and it still won't shut down. I notice that once in a while it will retart or shut down correctly if I had not used opened iTunes since turning it on. However, even manually closing iTunes before shutting down or restarting does not solve the problem. It seems as though it only shuts down if iTunes was not used since restarting the computer. Is this a registry error? Do I need to reinstall iTunes? I noticed this problem began happening after I uninstalled Kaspersky Virus Scanner, could that be the problem as well? Also, I cannot guarantee that the problem is only associated with iTunes. I just noticed that one of the few times it shut down or restarted correctly, iTunes coincidentally had not been used. Also, this problem started happening while I was still using Lion and has continued despite upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Also, whenever I update my iPod through iTunes, it won't eject properly, and a transparent icon of the iPod displays on the screen even after I have removed it from the USB port. Furthermore, the iPod will only be recognized by iTunes and will only be updated the first time I plug it in. After removing it and plugging it back in, it won't recognize or update the device unless I shut down and restart the computer. I have the latest addition of iTunes. I also have two iPods, one 80 GB Classic, and one 8 GB Nano, and I have the same problem with both.
I have AppleCare. Should I take my macbook to the genius bar?
Applications I normally use are Word, Safari, FireFox, iTunes, FinalDraft, Photo Booth, Notes, Mail, App Store, etc. No real heavy lifting.
Any feedback would be very much appreciated. :-)
    Thank you everyone!!

    I have this question too.

  • What's with the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter - it's a USB charger too?

absolutly agree, no chance to buy this cable in NZ. What a bad service. If anybody has a link where to buy one for ANZ would be great.

Yes the Yoga 3 Pro power adapter is a USB charger too!
    How does it work?
The special "fool proof" charging cord has two extra pins on the AC adapter end and two extra pins on the Yoga 3 Pro end. The extra pins only make a connection when the fool proof cord is plugged in to the Lenovo charger and the Yoga 3 Pro. When a regular USB cord is plugged into either the charger or the Yoga 3 Pro, it makes a regular USB connection.
Can I charge the Yoga 3 Pro with any USB charger?
No. The Yoga 3 Pro requires 2A at 20V, which is what the provided 40W Lenovo AC adapter supplies.
Can I charge a USB device with the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter?
Absolutely. In addition to 2A at 20, the Yoga 3 Pro AC adapter supplies 2A at 5.2V (10.4W), enough to charge a phone or tablet. Works for iPad.
Where can I buy spare AC adapters and cords?
AC adapters with cords are sold in the accessories section of the Lenovo store.
Where do I find the part numbers for the AC adapter and cord?
Look for AC Adapters In the PDF Yoga 3 Pro Hardware Maintenance Manual.
What are the USB specs of the Yoga 3 charging port?
It's a USB 2.0 port. It provides enough power to charge an iPhone, but not enough to charge an iPad. If you want to charge an iPad, try the USB 3.0 port on the right of the Yoga 3 Pro.

Late 2007 Macbook pro.  OS upgrade worked great for me.
I have had this problem on and off for a month or so.  I simply cannot figure out what the issue is.  I have tried poerup with and without AC power and with/without battery installed.
Starting in Safe mode does not help.
Trying to start with a disk does not help.
It sort of seems like it might be an internal power issue or GPU issue.
It also feels sort of like a software compatibility issue since my Macbook Pro gets reallly slugish for no apparent reason sometimes and IU have to restart.
I have three different anti-virus programs so I doubt it is a virus issue.
I noticed all this start after I did a Mountain Lion upgrade and then tried to start up VMware Fusion.  Fusion seemed to just bog down the computer horribly but did not cause a system crash.
I need to edit an important sequence on Final Cut Pro and don't want it to freeze me out!
Anyone who has had this problem and resolved it please let me know

  • Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro Power bank

Hello, I have a Lenovo Yoga 3 pro and as we all know the yoga 3 pro has a disappointing battery life. I know i cant use a normal Power bank for ex. phones because the yoga 3 pro need 20v. Lenovo does  not either sell a power bank that's compatible. So what can I do? I'm almost willing to build it my self, but I don't know which components i need.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !
Sorry to hear of your problems.  Since the adapter is making noise and getting hot I would recommend you discontinue using it until you get a replacement.  Continued use may cause additional damage.
As far as why it happened,  it is difficult to say.  Most likely there is a short in the wiring if it is getting hot near the end.  Possibly the wire had gotten twisted or bent or there is problem with the end piece itself.

  • MacBook Pro keeps shutting down unless connected to mains power

My MacBook Pro keeps shutting down unless connected to mains power, even when fully charged. I took it into Apple store, Leicester, UK - battery diagnostic shows good condition so they updated the system but that hasn't worked. I'm running OS X 10.6.8

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
