Yoga 3 Pro or Yoga 2 Pro? Opinions from dual owners please

Hi,
I'm tossing up between the Yoga 2 Pro and the Yoga 3 Pro.
I like the design of the 3 very much, and the weight.
I will run Ofiice apps, Photoshop CS6 on the road, and lightroom 5.7.
Any pros and cons from dual users with experience of this software in daily use would be apprecited.
Regards,
David.

I will be doing a video review on my experience soon but here are some points I can tell you already -
1) It is a great travelling companion, movies, videos, songs, small gaming is all perfect.
2) Battery life is really nice, I watched 3.5 hour long Lord of the rings and still had about 60% left
3) Pretty light and rotates 360 degrees, very comfortable to use in any and every mode.
4) Does not get hot, remains cool.
5) Exquisite looks especially the Bright orange color, which is my fav.
6) Screen is beautiful and everything is crisp (I use it at 1080p)
7) Some apps are very useful like ShareIt, transfer data from android, iphone etc in seconds over a wifi network.
8) Performance is good for browsing as well.
9) Boots in 3-5 seconds
10) Keyoard is backlit and very nice but shallow, trackpad is an absolute delight.
2 finger taps, 2 finger swipes, 3 finger swipes, 2 finger zoom, 2 finger scrolling of pages, everything is smooth and responsive.
11) Sound quality is awesome as well, very loud and clear. Enough bass to provide enjoyable experience.
What you should not expect -
1) Heavy graphics intensive tasks.
2) Lags a bit on some web pages scrolling (NOT noticeable)
3) Some software which are useless and can be uninstalled.
I typed this whole post on my Yoga 3 Pro and it is a great for me to type on this beauty.
Going to watch a movie now.

  • Creative T4 wierd behaviour, help wanted from another owner please

    Hi there
Got a set of these a month ago. If you alter the volume with the remote, the unit then responds to any other IR remote when you press and hold a key down. Eventually got the unit replaced under warranty to find the new unit does the exact same thing. I am looking for a helpful T4 owner to try to replicate this please.
If anyone could please do the following and report back, it would help a lot....
Set the T4 to digital input
Reduce the volume to zero using the creative remote
Increase the volume slightly using the creative remote
Point a different remote at the unit and press and hold a key
On mine the volume increases and the orange light flashes indicating it is receiving a signal.
This behaviour can be cancelled by pressing a key other than volume on the creative remote.
My thinking is that the chances of 2 units having the same fault is quite small and am wondering if this is a design fault.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

I thought I would post my thoughts on Creative as a company. I purchased their flagship speaker system back in February and the system has a fault with the remote volume control. Communication with Creative CS is slow and laborious but eventually they offer a firmware update that renders the speakers inoperable. I am requested to send the speakers back which are replaced with a set that has the exact same problem. I have been waiting ever since for a reply from the so called technical people.
My thoughts are 2 sets with the exact same problem is far more than coincidence. It is not my environment that is to blame as I have tested the speakers in different buildings (work and home), same problem. I have tried to communicate this to Creative but at every point, I am just told to be patient. I have had the speakers too long now to return and as yet, no one can or wants to answer my question.
My point is be very careful buying Creative products, especially the T4 speaker system. If you need help, I'm sorry to say, the assistance is very poor.
I feel sorry for the poor bloke within Creative who is acting as the go between on this one. He seems a nice chap but I think he is experiencing the same thing as I am, in that no one seems to care about the customer.
I had expected much better from Creative and their flagship product.

  • Yoga 13, Windows 8 Pro, Single-Click sometimes results in Double-Click

I'm using a brand new Yoga 13 (Window 8 Pro).  Clicking on the touchpad (not the touch screen) sometimes has issues.  Specifically, every once in a while, a single-click on the touchpad will result in double-click behavior.
I'm not referring to tapping, but rather physical clicking (press, depress touchpad on the lower left).
I disabled tap-to-click in case it was registering the tap, and then the click.  That didn't resolve the issue.
I also increased the speed required (within Windows) for a double-click to the fastest (least time between clicks) possible.  That also didn't resolve the issue.
It really seems like the touchpad, every once in a while, registers a double-click, like some sort of physical defect in the touchpad that presses, depresses, presses depresses immediately.
    Ideas?

I'm running Windows 8 (Not Pro) on a brand new Yoga 13 and am experiencing the same probem.  It doesnt happen all the time but just enough to be really annoying.  It seems like if I try right clicking I can get it to stop.

  • A suggestion to make the Yoga a complete Surface Pro killer

    Hey all,
So I got some face time with the Yoga and the Surface Pro at a local computer shop and I must say, I was quite impressed by both. The only reason I like the Surface Pro more than the Yoga is that it has an active Wacom digitizer in it with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity... this is really great for note taking and doing digital art.
So my suggestion, which I'm sure has been suggested before, is to add some sort of real pen input support to the Yoga's screen (and no, a capacitive decapated thumb for a pen is not a viable option). I think with Haswell on the horizon and a Yoga with the option for true pen input, this thing could be a content creator's dream. I know I'd gladly pay up to $200 more than the Yoga's price just to get this.

Agreed. Haven't heard any news to either the use of Haswell or pen input on the Yoga's - have you?

  • 4GB memory on new MacBook Pro Retina 13 with 2.4GHz dual core i5 processor &128GB flash storage

    Hello,
I'm completely new to the mac world but I'm fed up with pc's and all the insanity with processor problems, viruses, etc. I'm seriously looking at replacing my HP laptop with the new MacBook Pro Retina 13 with 2.4GHz dual core i5 processor, 4GB memory (RAM) & 128GB flash storage, OS X Mavericks (not sure which version). My concern is whether this will be reliably & consistantly fast & smooth both in desktop apps & internet use. I don't need it to do somersaults or anything too advanced. I would mostly be using Pages & spreadsheet apps & internet. It would double as my daughter's computer for cyber school so it's crucial that it runs quickly & efficiently. If she can't complete everything on time or log in to her online sessions because of a computer issue we'll be up a creek without a paddle since this particular cyber school's tech department is still working off of pc's running Windows XP. My father, thus far a pc user, thought I should consider moving up to 8GB memory but I was hoping that with flash storage being faster, I would be able to avoid the extra $100 for the upgrade to 8GB. My biggest fear is finding myself as frustrated & angry as I am now with all of my pc's, ready to take a sledge hammer to them because they take forever to boot, launch apps, internet or do just about anything (that is if they're even fuctioning at all- not joking). Does anyone have any advice or input?   Thanks!!
P.s. On Apple's site I found a refurbished late 2013 model of the MacBook Pro Retina 13 with all of the same specs as listed above (4GB, not 8GB), running OS X (doesn't say which one) but for a bit less than a brand new one. Is this the same model as what they're currently selling new in their store or did they just upgrade everything to match what is being offered in the current "new" model? I realize this may be a dumb question but I can't seem to find anything online indicated that Apple has released a model newer than what was released late last year (October 2013, I believe), except that the model released then came with SSD storage instead of flash.

No computer is fault free but Apple MBPs have a good track record.  In those cases where problems do arise, Apple has the best support in the industry.
A MBP with 4 GB RAM with the SSD storage should be adequate for your needs.

The latest MBP models came out in October 2013, so it will be the same, with the same warranty and telephone support.  The difference will be that the price will be less and it will be delivered in a plain white box.
I have purchased three MBPs from the refurbished section.  I have never been able to detect any cosmetic differences and will go that route again.
    Ciao.

You can write to Apple with the serial number and they can tell you exactly when your MacPro (as opposed to Mac Book Pro) was manufactured.
And in the Apple menu > about this Mac >  more info > there should be sufficient detail to narrow it down.
EDIT.  These are the specs for the      April 2007 version.

  • Why does my Mac Pro try to start up from a blank drive?

I fitted a 2nd drive to my 2006 Mac Pro in anticipation of dual booting Windows (not done yet). The dive is FAT formatted but is empty. Why does the Mac Pro try to boot up from that drive every time I start it up, despite having set the startup disc as OS X in the System Prefs?! Getting sick of seeing the flashing folder with the question mark evry time I start it up.

I might be inclined to think the problem is really on your startup drive. You might try reinstalling Snow Leopard.
    Also, try:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Is there a way to restore more than one MacBook Pro at the same time from an image? .

I restore each MacBook Pro one at a time from an Mountain Lion image on a firewire Hard Drive but each MacBook has to be done one at a time. When I re-image the PC's here at work I'm able to Ghost as many laptops I want simultaneously.
    Thank you

They are a few different models of the MacBook Pro ranging from 15.4" i7's to 17" i7's. I would use the same models together though when imaging them just like I do with PC's. For example I would Ghost 5 Lenovo T420 Thinkpads at the same time which all share the same exact specs and config. Looking to do the same with the MBP. I have .dmg image of OSX 10.8.1 on a firewire drive which I'm using. I image all my MBP's with this drive, the only downside is I have to do each MBP one at a time.
    Thanks

What country are you in ? Depending upon what country that you are in then you might be able to redownload them on your Mac's iTunes via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the iTunes store homepage
If you're not in a country where TV programmes can be redownloaded then connect the iPad to your Mac's iTunes and use the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over from your iPad

  • I got my Macbook Pro 17inch (early 2011) back from Apple (they had to replace the logic board) and now my microphone is not working

I got my Macbook Pro 17inch (early 2011) back from Apple (they had to replace the logic board) 3 days ago, I had a terrible experience as the genious who gave me my solid state disk for safekeeping lost my disk's brackets thus I had to wait 2 more hours until they find one after 10 days of waiting for the repair. I noticed some weird sounds, like somehting is moving with the mac 1-2 times, even if I have no mechanical parts other than the fans, but my real issue at the moment is that my microphone is not working. I can see the mic in the System Info however and in Audio Midi Setup. In the Audio Midi Setup I see that the master chanel is turned off and I can't turn in on. Ch 1 and 2 are on full. I also noticed the first seconds after the comp. boots the blue bar goes to the middle in the System Preferences -> Sound -> Input. Any ideas what to do or try? I do not want to go back to the apple store as it is 50 minutes away from here and I need my laptop as a computer science student. Everything else is working perfectly.

You need to call both the store that did the repair and Apple directly, warranty service or Apple care, and report this problem with both of them and get a ticket number of some kind (some kind of verification number) that the unit just came back from major service with this problem and that you want it fixed when you can lose the use of it, which is not right now.
Without doing something like that they could easily say it is damage not covered under the normal warranty.
God knows what the repair center did and did not do to it while it was there.
And depending on when you actually bought it the warranty could run out in the mean time.

Since upgrading to mountain lion on my macbook pro, i cannot email photos from iphoto.
i can select the picture but when sending it, an error symbol appears.
    Any ideas ?

This doesn't work for me at all. I tried entering exactly the same information that I used to set up my regular email account and I'm still getting an error message. I even tried switching to using my gmail account and neither one worked. Then it got hung up and had to repair my database! I have a lot of photos on my Mac (thank goodness they're backed up) and I was really sweating it for a moment.
Apple is so easy until it's not. I find this to be really aggrevating and I'm irritated that it hasn't been fixed. In fact I did an online search and someone described this same problem in detail and it was exactly what was happening to me. Same error messages.
I'm frustrated that Apple keeps updating it's operating system and then we go through these glitches.
And while I'm at it, I have never had such a frustrating time using my login information as I have to get into this forum! Why do they make it so difficult? There's just something about the way it's worded that get's me messed up every time. Meanwhile, at least get iPhoto fixed!

  • Everytime I open Safari on my MacBook Pro a pop-up window from my Finder menu, with the Applications highlighted on the left in the favorites column with the Resources folder highlighted comes up and locks my Safari page until I manually close the Resourc

Everytime I open Safari on my MacBook Pro a pop-up window from my Finder menu, with the Applications highlighted on the left in the favorites column with the Resources folder highlighted comes up and locks my Safari page until I manually close the Resources window then I have to refresh the internet search address line at the top of Safari. Can someone tell me how to stop this. It started after a software upgrade. It didn’t do that before. Thank you.

A few thoughts for diagnosis/testing purposes:
Have you recently run the disk utility and repaired HD and permissions? If not do so.
Boot into the Safe mode - hold down shift key on boot - and see if the problems are still there. Some functions won't work but see if anything odd happens.
Check your startup items. Get rid of them temporarily.
Create a new user account and see if the problems occur with the new account.
Lastly, be sure your backup is up-to-date.

Why not just connect the PC directly to the TC by ethernet and copy the files over?
It is hugely faster and much less mucking around.
In windows load the airport utility for windows.. if you have not already as this will help you access the drive.
