Yoga 3 Pro slow search times

Hi, I have a searching problem when I use the windows explorer to just look at the "This PC" overview of the storage devices on the computer where it used to load very fast last time I tried it and now it will never actually load! Any thoughts?

Dear Shwebingtom
Welcome in lenovo community
Please try to open the explorer again if failed to load then follow the below steps :-
1- Open Task Manager and go to Details tab
2- Righ click on explorer.exe and press on End Task
3- At the top menu open File then choose Run new Task
4- Type in the windows that will pop up explorer.exe and then Ok
Then check if the explorer will work properly or not and let me know
Thanks
Alaa

  • Slow Booting time after installing MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 on 13 Inches Mac 2010 model

I'm experiencing a slow boot time after my computer installed a MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 itself on 13 Inches 2010 model, how to downgrade or fix it?
My computer is starting 2 times slower then it should be, why Apple done this to me?
Please help who really know somthing about Macs.

I have the same problem, especially when I open my laptop from sleep.  It takes at least 2 minutes for the computer Internet connection to work.
Never had that problem prior to the last firmware update 2.7.
Is there a way to revert back to 2.6?

  • Mid 2010 MacBook Pro Mavericks Boot Time

    Hey guys,
Just curious if anyone has noticed slower boot times after upgrading to Mavericks? I have a mid 2010 7,1 MacBook Pro 13" 2.4 Core 2 Duo, 8GB ram, and 256GB SSD (SanDisk Ultra).
Unfortunatley I don't have boot times without my recent upgrades of the SSD and memory on Mavericks, but currently the ding to login screen is between 45 and 50 seconds. But I do recall my boot times running Mountain Lion with the stock 5400 HDD and 4GB memory was booting around 1 min 20 sec.
My drive is relatively clean, but with a large 140GB iTunes library. Currently I have 53GB out of 255GB free space on my SSD.
My computer runs quick for being 3 years old, but I was wondering if there is anything I can do to get those under 30 second boot times and better performance? I'm also debating if it's time to get the new MacBook Pro, or get another year out of this one? Also I haven't done a fresh install since I've bought it, I went from Snow Leopard/Mountain Lion/Mavericks. (Skipped Lion). Does this have a great affect on speed and boot times?

That is a bit strange. I have the same computer, but I have a 4gb ram aswell as a 256gb ssd. I have mine set up with a 256gb ssd and a 250gb hhd, by taking out the disk drive. My boot time is under 20 secs usually 15 sec, I also have mavericks installed. I am waiting on my ram to come in the mail to get as much as possible out of the 2010 before upgrading. Try cutting back on itunes and move stuff off your desktop. Repair disk permissions every so often.

  • Is ther a way to speed up a Mac? Mine has gotten slower and slower over time.  When memory comes close to full would that have an effect on performance? Is there a way to determine unused programs/software to remove and free space?

Is there a way to speed up a Mac (similar to de-fragging on a PC)? Mine has gotten slower and slower over time.
When memory/disc comes close to full would that have an effect on performance? How should I determine what programs/software to remove and free space?

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • Yoga Pro 3 - Wifi dropped connections; refuses to reconnect

First day of owning my Yoga Pro 3. Has anyone experienced intermittent wifi failures?
I've had trouble on both access points that I have at home. One is an older 802.11b router (set to channel 1), and other a D-Link815 dual-band bgn router (with the 2.4Ghz radio set to channel 11).
I've experienced problems using both routers on either channel and when using the 5Ghz spectrum as well.
Connectivity with either access point lasts from 5 mins to 30+ mins (in limited time I had available to use it so far).
Far more frustrating is that when dropped, the YP3 refuses to reconnect. Manually selecting the access point in the network connections charm and clicking "Connect" results in failed attempts at connecting and system will refuse to connect to any Access Point for a random amount of time. At one point I had attempted to reconnect about 20+ times before it did reconnect.
Obviously, tried rebooting without any change in behavior.
I uninstalled the Broadcom wireless driver (the system the auto-installed a Microsoft driver which, from the version number, appeared to be an older version of the same Broadcom driver as they used a very similar numbering scheme and were very close). No change. I reverted that change.
Are there known issues with these wifi cards/drivers accessing open wifi connections? I live in the middle of no-where, so have had no compelling reason to secure the access points.
    What else should I try?
    Thanks

My WiFi connects fine @ 2.4 GHz only Access Point (netgear wnr2000 v2) 4 rooms away (~ 35 feet and my Linksys router is on the same room as me so I get 866.5 Mbps all the time), giving me fluctuating connection speed from 243 to 300 Mbps. I generally don't use the 2.4 GHz band but I occasionally try it to check for stability. It's working fine but there's too much 2.4 GHz clients in our area so I use 5 GHz for Netflix, Hulu steaming where low latency stability is needed.
Definitely try reseating the antenna so you can rule that out. If you still can't connect @ 2.4 GHz, try other 2.4 Ghz access points or it's just that you get a defectve Broadcom 4352 card or it might be even Windows 8.1 drivers itself.

Can anyone please help interpret why I'm having slow boot times?  I have copied my console printout during the boot and it seems to be doing a repetitive action while booting.

  • I cannot install OS X Lion on my MacBook Pro. Installing time is in negative hours. (-2,147,483,648 hours)

At first, my macbook couldn't start up. It only displayed apple logo with a spinning wheel on grey screen for hours and hours. Then I decided to reinstall the OS. I tried so many times to install but the installing time said thousands of hours remaining to complete . I left the computer for days but  it didn't install OS. I tried that connecting the Ethernet cable as well but it didn't work.  Then I took out all my important files by connecting it to another macbook and formatted the hard drive. Then tried to install OS again.  But still didn't work. I checked on you tube and changed the hard drive cable as well. Still didn't work. I cannot install OS X Lion on my MacBook Pro. Installing time is in negative hours. (-2,147,483,648 hours). Seriously looking for help.

  • What is the best USB powered portable 1TB hard drive for a macbook pro that allows Time machine to work, windows (thru Parallels software) and mac storage and is available in Australia?

What is the best USB powered portable 1TB hard drive for a macbook pro that allows Time machine to work, windows (thru Parallels software) and mac storage and is available in Australia?

I agree with teh OWC sggestion above, but why must it be USB powered? I find that far more unreliable, and the low power devices slow.
I'd frankly get a good external enclosure and buy a bare drive.  But the OWC stuff is quite good - vastly better than some of the majors (WD being aprime example of stuff that's boderline quality and often not compatible)

  • Slow boot time on new SSD

I replaced my old hard drive with an SSD, and I'm getting boot times much slower than expected, between 40 and 45 seconds. I have already set my SSD as the startup disk in System Preferences, repaired disk permissions, performed a PRAM reset, and turned on TRIM. Application launching and shut down are extremely fast, so I'm not sure why I'm getting such slow boot times.
I'm running a Macbook Pro 15", early 2011, 2 GHz Intel Core i7 and 8GB RAM. My 256GB SSD still has 160 GB available.

Could it be related to the fact that the SSD is listed as disk two in the EtreCheck report?

  • Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

I am having the same issue. I hook it up to the charger in the evening and close the lid. When I go to use it the next time it takes a good 30 seconds or so to wake up. The screen shows the log in screen but typing doesn't work and the cursor is frozen. Sometimes it will even give the rainbow wheel for the cursor, so it seem like it is processing whatever to get going. I also notice that my battery won't be fully charged at anywhere from 95%-99% after being charged a full evening. What can I do to change whatever is happening because it is pretty crappy to charge it all night expecting to have a full battery for the next use, plus the issue of having to sit there waiting for it to boot every time.

  • T400s and T500 experiencing slow response time accessing certain websites from within our network

Hello there.... we have some Lenovo T400s running Windows 7 and T500 running WinXP Pro that are experiencing slow response time when trying to access certain website from within our company network (particularly this global crossing Web meeting, google maps): https://core1.callinfo.com/interface/guest.jsp?host=globalcrossing ... it takes 10-15 minutes before it loads the meeting login screen and same response time for google maps to respond as well... the thing is, other Lenovo T400s, T61, and other HP desktop machines that are connected to the same network in our company does not experience this slow response time... HOWEVER, when these problematic T400s / T500 laptops are connected to external network (e.g. home DSL, hotel DSL/Cable modem) the problem goes away.   Our NETWORK ran tests to monitor traffic to the websites from our company's network but seem to connect just fine... just wondering if anybody out there experienced the same problem and know of a solution.  By the way, the two newer T400s that are experiencing the slow response time have the following BIOS version 1.11 (6HET26WW) and BIOS version 1.09 (6HET24WW).  Then a T400s that is also connected to the same network but not experiencing the problem has a BIOS version of 1.02 (6HET17WW - running WinXP Pro).   NOTE: We also connected a Linksys USB wireless adapter to connect to our wireless network in the company but same problem - and problem occurs even when connected via network cable.  Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Network World posted an article about a free response time monitoring tool that would be worth checking out

  • Yoga Pro 3 two fingers tap is not working

I got my new Yoga Pro 3 and it is looking and working great except from the two fingers tap which does not. This is a real bummer since I use it all the time on my mac and Asus devices. Any tips? I would really appreciate if you can fix it.

So avneraa, if I help you get two finger tap, you'll keep the Yoga 3 Pro?
Try this, but first back up your registry, and wear a helmet:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Synaptics>SynTP>TouchPadRMIHID2c>2FingerTapAction
    and:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Synaptics>SynTP>Win8>2FingerTapAction
Set Value data of both to 2 hexadecimal.
    Restart.
    Report back.
    Worked for me.
    Hope this helps!
Thanks to a dangerous-looking rabbit I don't know on Baidu.

  • Leopard Slow Bootup Time

I don't know why but my macbook pro's bootup time is very long, usually taking approximately two minutes to get to my desktop. It usually takes 30-40 seconds before the apple logo pops up when I start up the computer. I only have six login items (growl, logitech for mouse, itunes, caffeine, quicksilver, istat menus) but after the long bootup everything else is fine. As shown I'm running 10.5.6 and I've already clean installed once in the beginning, about one year ago, when I got the macbook pro brand new. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
How much free drive space is there?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data. Not enough available drive space can cause the slow boot you are experiencing.
Check your boot disk for errors and repair if necessary.
Restart your Mac while holding down the C key, pressing the power button and inserting your restore disk all at the same time. An Installer window will open, but do not proceed with any installations. Instead, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities > Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility window click First Aid, and then click Verify. If Disk Utility reports errors, click Repair. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If you don't use a disk utility for maintenance, you can force background maintenance tasks...
    go here:
Six login items is a tad more than usual. You might one to try deleting at least one app from login items in System Preferences/Accounts and see if that makes a difference.

  • Slow loop times with 6024E and LV2009

    Hello all,
I have searched the forums back and forth, in addtion to the knowledge base, but I am still confused as to the slow loop times I am experiencing.  I have a 6024e PCMCIA DAQ card with a very simple VI created in LV 2009.  I am using the DAQ Assistant to collect 1 thermocouple channel on a SCXI Chassis 32 channel thermocouple module.
The problem is that the loop times in labview is about 3 seconds.  The DAQ Assistant acquisition mode is set to "on demand".  The target sample rate is about 1 to 2 samples per second.  I have read in previous posts that the repeated creation of the task using the DAQ Assistant with the acquisition mode set to "on-demand" can slow things down.
What really has me confused is that using this exact same method of setting the DAQ Assistant acquisition mode to "on-demand" has worked fine on the same hardware when using one of the earlier v8 versions of LabView.  I don't understand what has changed and why the loop times are so much slower.  I planned to pull the newest LV2009 off the computer and put a previous v8 version on just to confirm my observations.  In addition, I pulled up a copy of the VI that was written in one of the v8.x versions and it used the DAQ Assitants with the acquisition mode set to "on-demand" and had a loop time of 0.100 seconds.
Any help would be appreciated.  I have been working on this all day today with no sucess.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

    H_baker,
I did have the patch applied at the time I was experiencing the problems.  The DAQmx driver version was the version that was supplied on the DVD that we received for LV2009.  I believe the actual version number was something like 8.9.5.
The loop time was determined as follows:
A simple vi I was written in a while loop.  The data acquisition was conducted using the DAQ assistant sampling 1 channel on the SCXI thermocouple module in a SCXI 1000 chassis.  Inside the loop of the vi the getdatetime function was placed and wired to an indicator on the screen.  The vi was then ran.  Observation showed that the loop time was typically 3 seconds and sometimes 6 seconds by keeping track of the datetime indicator on the front panel.
The problem appears to be resolved now.  I had pulled off the LV2009 installation and put back on the 8.6 installation.  Recreated the vi and everything worked fine. As a sanity check I went ahead and reinstalled LV2009.  Recreated the vi again and everything works fine now.  The only real difference between the two installations is that I am using the latest NIDAQmx drives (I believe version 9.0.5).  It could have been just some sort of transient issue that resolved itself either by reinstallation or by rebooting.   Not sure.  I was just initially very concerned given that another posting had mentioned loop times of 3 seconds just like I was experiencing.
    Thanks,
    Steve

  • SLOW rendering times

    Hi!
One of my biggest gripes is the slow rendering times with FCP. I know that it's some setting that I have wrong, but I can't figure it out for the life of me. I started with HD video captures using the ProRes 422 codec, but it would take a REALLY LONG time for it to render.
For simplistic sake, I started again with just a simple video I took of a screencast. The video is saved using Quicktime in 636x480, HD.264, and a SD (6-1-6) color profile. There is also no sound to the movie...just video. I figured that this would be a really simple way to try some things out, but I was wrong.
I setup FCP as a number of different codecs and resolutions. I imported the file by just dragging and dropping the .mov video into the Browser in FCP. I then dragged and dropped it to the timeline, and did a render/all.
Even by doing this, it is taking 8 minutes to render a 2 minute video. There must be something I'm doing wrong, and I can't figure it out. I was watching a youtube FCP demo and this guy rendered a video in about a minute on a g5. Being I have a dual-core intel, I can't imagine it taking as long as it is. I appreciate any help and I know there's a million threads out there...but I just can't seem to grasp this.
    Thanks!

Hi! I suppose the information below would be helpful. I'd like to get started with a screen capture from Snapz Pro X. Here are some answers to the questions...
Program: Snapz Pro X Screen Capture v2.2.2
    Record Settings Used:
    - Compression Type: H.264
    - 30 Frames Per Second
    - Key frame every 500 frames
    - Encoding Mode: Single-pass
    - Compressor Quality: Best
    FCP Version: 7.0.2
Within FCP, this is where I get confused because of all the options.
In the "Easy Video Setup" portion, I have...
    Format: Apple ProRes 422
    Use: Custom
    - Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48khz
    - Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48kHz
    - Device Control Preset: Non-Controllable Device
    - Playback Output Video: Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main
    - Playback Output Audio: Default
    - Edit to Tape/PTV Output Video: Same as playback
    - Edit to Tape/PTV Output Audio: Same as Playback
In the "Audio/Video" Settings, I have the following...
    Sequence Preset: DV NTSC 48khz
    Capture Preset: DV NTSC 48khz
    Device Control PReset: Non-controllable device
Video Playback: Digital cinema desktop preview - main
    Audio Playback: Default
Sequence Presets: Default settings for DV NTSC 48kHz
Capture PReset: Default settings for DV NTSC 48kHz
    Device Control: Non-controllable device
a/v devices: digital cinema desktop preview - main
    - mirror on desktop checked
    - audio: default
    - 'do not show external av device warning' is checked.
Now, if I right click on the project in the "Browser" window and choose "Sequence Settings", I have the following...
    Frame Size: 640x480 NTSC 4:3
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601/DV 720x480
    Field Dominance: None
    Editing Timebase: 29.97
    Quick Time Compressor: H.264
    Quality: 100%
    Audio Rate: 48khz
    Audio Depth: 16 bit
    Audio Config: Channel Grouped
Video Processing: All grayed out except 'normal' is selected for motion filtering quality.
    ================
Now, this is where I get really confused with FCP. Everybody says to set it up with the same settings you use to record. Does the "Easy Video Setup" work hand-in-hand with the "Audio/Video Settings"? Should you skip the easy setup and just jump into the A/V Settings?
WHile typing this message, I also noticed that the "Sequence Presets" in the Audio/Video Settings are set to 720x480 using millions of colors. In the settings for the file in the "Browser" Window, I have it set to 640x480, which is different than what's in the av settings. Should these be the same?
I'm just getting started with FCP, and these are just the questions I have. What is the 'workflow' one takes to do this? Start FCP, setup the 'audio/video settings' area, choose the preset, edit the sequence preset to something basic, and then drag and drop your mov files in? I suppose it's just confusing because you can set the video settings in FCP, in the 'easy setup', if you right click on the project and choose settings, etc... Which one has precedence over the entire project?
    Sorry for so many questions.
    Thanks in advance...
