Yosemite 10.10.1 has my email saying the server certificate "cannot be verified".  This also keeps me out of the cloud. How do I correct this?

Since downloading Yosemite 10.10.1 on my MacBook Pro and Mac desktop I have had email problems.  When linking to the server a popup message appears saying "The identity of POP3.knology.net cannot be verified."  It may be another server is attempting to steal the data.  My email server says this is an apple problem that they've seen with 10.10.1 (They may just be passing the buck) but they can't solve it. The self-signed server is "map.example.com" which expired on Friday, Nov 2, 2012.

Your email provider is using a self-signed certificate? LOL.
This is not an Apple issue. Somebody has their certificate screwed up, and OS X is doing the right thing to protect you.
It _is_ possible for you to go to the certificate and explicitly trust it, always, even though it's an invalid and/or expired certificate. That will probably address the issue. But this "map.example.com' has "screwed up" written ALL OVER IT.

    Your best bet would be to restore your iPad if it is not accepting your passcode. Check out the article below to walk you putting your iPad into recovery mode and using iTunes to restore it.

    Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
    While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
    iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

    What Mac do you have?
    To find out info about your system,
    Click on the Apple symbol in the upper left of the OS X main menu bar. A drop down menu appears.
    Click About this Mac. A smaller popup window appears. This gives you basic info like what version of OS X your iMac is running, the speed of your iMac's CPU and how much RAM is installed.
    Click on the button that says More Info. A larger window appears giving you a complete overview of your iMac's hardware specs.
    Highlight all of this info and copy/paste all of this into another reply to this post, editing out your iMac's serial number before actually posting the reply.

  • When I click to launch firefox it says your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. How do I fix this? I have been through all the troubleshooting and can not figure this out.

    This just randomly occured when I tried to get online yesterday. I tried to go through run and pull up my profile but it does not seem to be there. I tried to create a new profile through run as well and it just pops up this error message. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox and that does not seem to wrok either.
    This is not an issue on any other user accounts

  • When I hit "send" it refuses, saying the email I just wrote is "spam"; it is NOT, I need it to send, how do I correct this problem?

    Not every time, but often, the program thinks my own email, that I just wrote, is spam. Often it is a reply to an email sent to me and sometimes, if they have an image in the signature line, and I delete their image from my reply, it will send fine (I can leave the rest of what they wrote, and only delete the signature line image). Or sometimes, if I end the first attempt and try a new email or a new reply, then it does work...
    But sometimes, nothing I do will convince the program that my OWN email I wish to send is NOT spam! The person I am sending it to is EXPECTING it and waiting for it!! Why won't it send? Why does it think I am sending spam?!
    I have looked at my server settings, but I have no idea what this would be under.
    How do I correct this? I NEVER send spam, I need this problem solved so that it NEVER happens again. Thank you for any help.

    I have tried changing the subject line, retyping the message, opening a new message and sending it that way... nothing is working.
    This is often to people I have already (successfully) sent messages to in the past, people who are already in my address book, and people I am replying to. Also, people I am sending to for the first time, or this is my first reply to an email they have sent to me for the first time. Some emails are personal, some business related.
    This has happened in the past intermittently (usually with replies to an email that has a picture in the original signature line; I delete the picture and then make my reply, usually that corrected the problem) but now it is happening to almost every email I try to send (and deleting the picture, in those emails, no longer works). Since last week, it's gotten worse. I have only been able to send a few emails, most have been refused as "spam". All today every email I have tried to send has been refused.

    What you are getting is the AppleID (AppleID can be an email adress) used at the time of the purchase of this app.  It is an identifiant allowing Apple to link your purchase to your account.
    If you want to manage associated email, you can go at https://appleid.apple.com but the AppleID could never be modified.  
    I do not know if in your case, it is just that you no longer use your old email address or that you actually a 2 AppleID.  In any case, you will have to remember the password related to the account used for your purchase.  If you don't, just use the link above to try to retreive your password.

    Start with the basics. Force close mail and reset your iPad.
    In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
    Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
    If that doesn't help, you might want to consider resetting your router by unplugging it from power for about 30 seconds. That can help at times even if all of your other devices are connecting to the Internet. I suggest this, because the message that you are getting may be due to a bad connection to the Internet.

    I found another forum that had a solution.  Instead of using the recovery discs that came with the mac, use snow leopard to perform the actions that I needed to do.  It worked.  No input/output error and the software recognized the 1Tb hard drive.

    Hi Allan, thanks for that. I've already set up a log in for my wife and that is all working fine. The problem is that when she logs in and opens iTunes and trys to associate her library with her iTunes account she gets the error message "This computer is already associated with another iTunes account". Whilst this is true, the computer is associated with my iTunes account under my separate log in, which should have nothing to do with hers. If she transfers the association to her account it will lock me out of my content on my log in for 90 days - I'm trying to work out how to associate each of the log in accounts with a separate iTunes account so we can access our music independently of one another without locking each other out. Hope that makes sense!

    Are you saying that my address book has not been hacked into?  That others are getting these email addresses from another source?
    This confuses me.  Are you saying that you are receiving bogus e-mails from some of your contacts, or are you saying that they are receiving bogus e-mails from you?
    If the latter, there are a number of reasons that people might be getting e-mail from you.  Malware, though technically possible, is extremely unlikely.  See Someone is sending messages from my e-mail address!
    If the former, that's rather unusual.  The only decent explanation I can think of is that a bunch of your Windows-using contacts got infected with something and their machines are being used to spam everyone in their contact lists, which would include you.
