Yosemite 10.10.2 Microsoft Word Opening ALL Files

I just updated to Yosemite 10.10.2.  Microsoft Word opens ALL of my Word files when I open the program.  I have uninstalled and re-downloaded.  I also went to System Preferences and changed those setting, to no  avail.
Each time I open Word, it just pops open so many windows that within 20 seconds the program just crashes and offers to send an error report.  I cannot use Word at all.  Please help.

What version of Office are you using?

Go to System Preferences (under the Apple logo on the menu bar).  Choose "General".  Check the box "Close all windows when quitting an application."

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

  • Microsoft word opens multiple docs in Lion

Since installing Lion on my Mac Pro Microsoft Word opens several documents when I open just one document.
Is this a Lion fix or Microsoft?  It didn't happen with Snow Leopard

Close them before quitting Word, or turn off autoresume.

Go to System Preferences>Accounts and then select your account, then startup items, remove Word from the list and reboot, you should be fine then.

  • Does Lion support the old microsoft word for MAC files?

Does Lion support the old microsoft word for MAC  files? I have heard that if i down load  Lion then my Word files for Mac will not function or work. Is this true?? I don't want to download Lion if this happens.

The file type does not matter, the program you use to open the file does.
You need a newer version of word (or a third party program).
You can use openoffice as well.

  • Contribute tries to open all file types

Contribute 3 tries to open all file types, in addition to the
designated application. You click on "file.doc" and contribute AND
word try to open the file. You have to cancel the open process for
contribute at least three times to make it go away. Then the file
open as usual in word. I have checked the preferences and removed
all "MS Office" file types from the dialog. I have checked the
folder options and verified that Contribute is NOT the assigned
application in Windows to open the file.
    Help this is very annoying!

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Hey Paul welcome to the Palm forums.
Your Verizon Pre Plus runs a mobile operating system called HP/Palm webOS.  The current release is 1.4.5.  The phone can connect to a corporate Microsoft Exchange server.  When it does, it uses a sync technology called "Exchange Active Sync," but your phone does not run the Windows Mobile or Windows Phone operating system.
Syncing Microsoft Office and PDF documents has been sort of an adventure since the Pre debuted over 18 months ago.
DataViz, the makers of the Doc View application, was partially acquired by RIM, the makes of the BlackBerry, and have decided to not release a full version of Documents To Go for webOS devices.  Palm is working with the makers of QuickOffice to bring full Office document support to webOS in the future.
For now, if you put Office documents and PDF files in the USB storage area of your Pre, Doc View or PDF will find them and allow you to view them on your Pre.  I put all of my documents in a folder simply called "Documents".
If you connect the charging/sync cable to your Pre and then attach it to your Mac or Windows PC, you will be given a choice to turn on USB Drive mode.  When you do, you will be able to work with your Pre like you would a standard USB flash drive.  Eject the Pre from your PCs desktop when you are done and you should be all set.
    Hope that helps.

  • Open all files in 'Open Recent' menu

Is there a way to open all files at once that appear in the 'Open Recent' menu in Preview? If I have 15 PDFs listed, would it be possible to open them all at once (perhaps through Automator?).
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Can you identify the disc where your Scratch files go to.
If you have not designated a specific disc it will be in the default location.
You need to remove any files associated with the Project in question from the Scratch Disc location.

  • Library opens all files in it after I click on it

    Hi Everybody
When I double click on my library it opens all files in it. I have another library, which after I click opens only a dialog box to chose the file to open.
Now, how do I determine how the library should behave, either it should open all vis at the opening either it will pop up with dialog box.
    Thanks in advance
    Pawel

Each vi that configured as main in llb will open after double-clicking on llb. For editing of vi's configuration in llb select Tools/Edit Vi Library, select llb file, and select which files will be main.

  • Why can't microsoft word open after an update

why can't microsoft office open after the yosemite update?

I had to download from the Microsoft website Microsoftoffice2011.dmg and upgrade.  Now word and the rest of office works again.  I could not get this to update via the auto update program BTW that did not work. The version which is required for Yosemite is 14.4.5 of Word. Good luck.

  • Adobe Reader tries to open all files even Excel and Word docs.

When I try to open files that are sent to me, the Adobe Reader tries to open them all instead of an Excel file getting opened automatically by Excel and a .doc being opened by Word.
The message I get by the Reader says it cannot open it, of course. (I have Windows Vista on my HP computer if that is the problem.) Someone told me to take the default off of the Reader so the files open and download in the proper software program, but I am unable to find such a "default" option in the Reader program properties.
I never had this problem with any previous Windows version, so not sure if it is my computer, or the Reader. How can I fix this so when I download or open a file, it automatically opens in the right software?

This means that the file associations of the various Office programs have been muddled up somehow. Try an Office repair install; that should correct the file associations.

  • I want to change the default file type in the Open File dialog - e.g. from Word to All Files

I want to change the default file type in the Open File dialog - most recently specifically in Adobe Acrobat, from Adobe Files to All Files, so I don't have to do it again and again manually.  Is this possible?  Is it an OS setting or an app-specific setting?

The Apps set the default to the file type it can open, sort of. However, there normally isn't a type specified. All document types that the app can handle will be offered.
Adobe, and Microsoft, tend to roll their own dialogs, so they may not be standard. I don't have Acrobat, so I can't verify that. If Adobe is puting a file type selector in their open file dialogs, it would be up to them to store the preferences.
EDIT: I checked Reader, and i see what you mean. Not terribly useful.

  • Microsoft word opens then closes

Microsoft Word X for Mac (service release 1) opens then closes when I try to open a document.

I think I've recently encountered the very same problem. My guess is that the new Word update doesn't quite jibe with the Intels. You might try this link until MS releases another update: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060810105134613
I cut and pasted the command into Terminal and it seemed to fix the problem. Although a poster on the site claimed that subsequent restarts saw the crashing problem return. Which I guess means that we'll have to keep entering this Terminal command until MS resolves the bug.
