Yosemite 10.10.3 Bug in Image Capture - no automatic delete

After updating Yosemite to 10.10.3, the "Delete After Import" feature in Image Capture no longer works.  The images import properly, but they do not automatically delete (even though the box is checked).  You are then able to manually delete the images, but one image is always permanently un-deletable (I was able to replicate this bug by importing images from my iPhone, iPad and Canon Digital Camera).

Don't think it's a bug, just tried with my iPhone 4s and image capture imported pictures followed by deleting same from phone - same with manual delete, all removed if all selected. Think the clue to your issue might be the fact you can not manually delete a particular picture, is it protected or could it be corrupt?
Try deleting the troublesome picture via the iDevice and then see what happens when you attempt importing others, if you have the same issue but on another picture you might try restoring the iDevice (but that will not resolve the problem if it also happens with the camera!).
I might just be lucky, wait and see if others report similar problem after 10.10.3 upgrade.

  • Image Capture won't scan: Canon MP 610

    Hello,
I experience a strange bug in Image Capture which I use together with my Canon MP610. When I put a document on the scanner Image Capture will show a preview and then scan the document. This works fine.
Sometimes I need to make some manual corrections by using the button "show details" and then resize the scan area after the program has analyzed the picture. After I made the corrections I hit the "Scan" button but Image Capture will return with the message "Scanner has reported an error" and "An error occurred during scanning".
I first thought it might be a driver related problem as I recently updated the drivers from the Canon site. Before I installed the Canon drivers and used the OSX drivers all worked fine.
So I removed all drivers from Canon and hoped the Mac would use the old drivers again. That didn't work either as the system couldn't seem to find any usable driver anymore. I reinstalled the Canon drivers and all works well again except for the Image Capture program.
As long as I don't use the "Show Details" button the scanner works just fine. But as soon as I make some manual corrections the scanner error message pops up and the scanner won't scan the adjusted preview.
So I know for sure the Mac sees the scanner and can control it as the scanner does deliver the images to the folder I specify, but I can't do any manual corrections.
I already deleted the file "com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist" but that didn't solve the problem. It appears to be a bug in the program itself or a conflict between the app and the drivers from Canon. How can I revert back to the drivers that my Mac used before I installed the Canon drivers?
    Thanks!

Thanks PAHU that were a lot of drivers for sure in your link and I installed those. Unfortunately, nor the driver package nor the ICA driver did solve my problem. I'm beginning to think it might just be a bug within Image Capture, although Image Capture is stating the scanner is reporting an error. Strange thing is that Image Capture will work fine as long as I hide the details pane.
It seems to be an isolated problem too as I can't find any other subject on this on the net. I see more people having trouble to scan images with Image Capture but that's mostly related to not selecting the right part of the preview. I will see if I can reinstall Image Capture from the OSX dvd.

  • Image Capture won't capture (Canon 9950F)

I have recently bought a Canon 9950F for a specific project. It replaced an Epson Perfection 2450 Photo which worked perfectly but was limited in the size (area) of its film scanning capabilities. I have used a range of software including VueScan and Silverfast v6.6 but the most direct scanning tool I have used is Image Capture. The feature that I really like with Image Capture is the ability to select multiple scan areas in the 'preview' and have Image Capture scan them as a batch. The project I am working on (family archive photos, documents and film negs of various formats) really makes the most of this feature.
I have moved over to the Canon 9950F and immediately noticed that Image Capture does not see the film scanning feature of the 9950F. It scans documents exactly as the Epson 2450 did but does not offer the option of scanning film or transparency, only documents on the flatbed. I have updated the Canon Drivers and the scanner is visible under System Prefs > Printers. VueScan and SilverFast recognise the scanner (but neither have the selectable scanning feature that Image Capture offers) and Photoshop Elements 10 also sees the scanner under File > Import.
Has anyone experienced this problem and, if so, is there a 'work around'.
    Many thanks.

  • Pentax DSmobile 600 with Image Capture only sayd "No paper loaded..."

I was using Paperless to scan documents, but Paperless is not fully working on Snow Leopard yet. I re-installed the Pentax DSmobile 600 TWAIN driver tonight, but I still cannot scan documents into my Mac.
If I select "Flatbed" as the Scan Mode, I can get it to "Overview" a document quite nicely. But when I tried to scan it it doesn't go well. When I use "Document Feeder" as the Scan Mode, Image Capture just sits there saying "No paper loaded..."
A workaround is to "Hide Details" at which point it seems to start allowing me to scan again.
Is this a bug with Image Capture?
    To reproduce:
    * Open Image Capture
    * Choose Show Details
    * Select "Flatbed" as the scan mode
    * Select "Document Feeder" as the scan mode
    * "No paper loaded..." displays on the screen, Scan button disabled.
    * Click "Hide Details" and you can Scan again.

Does anyone happen to know if there are other SW packages that enable calibration of this scanner? • Image Capture won't allow us to save...

When we go to Applications > Image Capture it automatically turns on our scanner and scans in the image or document, HOWEVER, the scan button in the program is always grayed out, so we can't save the image/document anywhere. What are we doing wrong?
We tried to find some documentation on the 'Image Capture' program but we couldn't find any, not even from Apple Can anyone help us sort this issue out?

It's waiting for you to tell it what it should scan. Sounds silly but it's true.
Click and drag in the Preview window do drag out a box for it to scan inside of and the Scan button will un-grey.

  • Image Capture Stopped Working on MacPro

Attempted to scan material with my Epson Perfection 2450 PHOTO with Image Capture on my MacPro and received error message that "No camera or scanner connected." I have used this scanner with Image Capture routinely in the past with no problem.
When I switched to "EPSON Scan as an option, it worked without changing anything. Also, I physically moved my scanner to my MacBook Pro, and it worked perfectly with Image Capture.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    It all started with: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL900
    The solution:
    Delete - /Library/Image Capture/Devices/EPSON Scanner.app
Steps - quit image capture, unplug scanner, delete app, plug scanner in again
Reinstall old version of Epson scanner.app.
If you dont have the old version available, download from
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3429397/EPSON%20Scanner.app.zip
    unzip, drag to /Library/Image Capture/Devices/
    Restart Image capture.
And Voila, you can scan full page again...
    Worked for me...

  • Image capture bug

I'm using Image Capture with a Canon S400. Image Capture was set to download all photos automatically and delete after.
I've never had much luck with this approach. Unfortunately I'm a slow learner and only now have vowed never to use the app again. Basically, it downloads the first couple photos okay and then speeds through the rest of the photos at light speed (clearly, something has went wrong.) Indeed, the rest of the photos cannot be read by any application- they are invalid JPEG files even though they are about the right size. And they've been removed from the card and are gone forever. I'm using the factory USB cable from the camera the the keyboard USB port. Hardware is either a MacBook or intel iMac. Both have the same problem.
What gives? One might be inclined to point to the camera or CF card but in fact both are fine. I can use a CF card reader fine with my iMac, and everything also works great with my Windows XP box.
At the absolute least, Image Capture should be updated to NOT delete photos from the camera unless the resulting JPEG passes some type of minimal validity check. OS X is instantly aware of the fact that the image files are corrupted (no thumbnail can be generated) so it shouldn't be that difficult.
Sigh. I'm really starting to long for the stability of my iBook. I defended Apple as long as I could but with the MacBook in for repairs right now and various stability issues running OS X on the Intel platform, I realize now that there really are some serious issues right now.

I'm having a similar bug on an eMac with the same camera (plus an Olympus E-300). Yes, dragging the jpegs off the card works, but you lose the thumbnails that Image Capture creates. I've researched previous questions here, and believe I've found all the preference files (that I have trashed several times over). No luck - I keep having this problem.
I really don't want to give up on Image Capture, since it retrieves camera information, too. But this is really an irritating bug!
    Any suggestions..?

  • Since I upgraded to Yosemite, Image Capture does not combine pages in to one PDF document

Ever since I upgraded my OS to Yosemite, in my Intel iMac, I have not been able to combine the scanned multiple pages of a document into one PDF file using Image Capture, even though the option to combine pages is checked off. It makes multiple PDF files of these pages. Furthermore, I have even tried to use Preview to combine these individual pages into one document and save it into one file but it will only save one page. Is anyone else having the same problem? If so has anyone found a solution to this problem? Please help. It was wonderful to be able to do this in Maverick. Thanks.

  • Extremely nasty Image Capture bug deletes video with import to Aperture

Image Capture allows one to specify Aperture as a target.
Nice feature, but Aperture can't handle video.
So what happens when the images you choose to import contain a video, and you've set IC to delete after import?
The videos are deleted, but not imported. If you were to import directly to Aperture they would be saved to the desktop by Aperture, but with this route they are deleted.
    Lethal bug.

    The moral of the story:
Never let your computer delete data before you know that the transfer has worked. Ever.
Don't let Image Capture, Aperture (oh, and btw, Aperture 3 does support video) or iPhoto delete pics. Ever.
After you have transferred the material to your Mac you can simply reformat the card with your camera - once you've verified the transfer. Reformatting the card with your camera is much faster - takes seconds - and has the added advantage of refreshing the directory structure on the card and so helping to avoid problems in the future.
And finally, given that both iPhoto and Aperture can import directly from your camera, why are you using Image Capture?
    Regards
    TD
After losing some images on my first attempts with iPhoto I quit using it. The whole program made no sense to me. I've been transferring images to the desktop with Image Capture, editing with Gimp, and storing in an image folder. I was hoping to give iPhoto another try and lost a couple of images... now trying to figure out where these things go. I'll try to import directly from the camera now that you've made me aware of the possibility. Any idea about this cache in the meantime? Maybe I'll find all the images I lost.

  • Yosemite Can't Auto Delete In Image Capture

I have always used Image Capture instead of something like iPhoto or Aperture to transfer my iOS device pictures to my Mac. Since Yosemite, something has changed. There    used to be a "Delete after importing" button in Image Capture, but now there is no such button:
Everything is the same otherwise. The button is also listed in Help, but it doesn't exist in the app:
Is anyone else having this issue? I am using an iPad Air and a Mac Pro.

I noticed this immediately after "upgrading" to Yosemite and it's very annoying. I have a 16GB iPhone and capture many photos/videos of my kids then download them to my MacBook every week or two. The removal of the delete button in Image Capture makes copying photos/videos off the iPhone a clunky process where I have to download them and then go to the phone and manually delete everything I just copied (then go empty the new 30 day deleted items folder to actually free up that space). In theory the iCloud shared photos will be an alternate to this but that's in beta right now and is not an instantaneous way to download a video recently captured directly to the computer. I realize Apple just wants me to buy a larger storage capacity phone but it's really annoying to lose features that were quick and simple and replace them with clunky multi step processes.

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.
