Yosemite and unable to open Illustrator CS6

Hi
Since changing to Yosemite I am unable to open Illustrator CS6 and I get the following message:
"To open "Adobe Illustrator CS6" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime."
I have followed the link and downloaded "Java for OS X 2014-001" as instructed but doing this does not change anything and I am still unable to open Illustrator.
Can anyone help me and explain to me what I need to do to be able to use Illlustrator again!
Thank you very much.

Teresa, biuzalel,
You should be able to get round the issue altogether without the legacy version (and its security implications), by following this:
http://oliverdowling.com.au/2014/03/28/java-se-8-on-mac-os-x/
It is even more thoroughly described in this thread, see post #3 on by gator soup:

Hope somebody an help me here, every time I try to open Illustrator CS6 it will open almost to the point of being able to open a file but then closes and tells me there "Adobe Illustrator quit unexpectedly" It used o open no problem in an older version of Mac OS and I have no problems opening Photoshop CS6. Does anyone know what is going on with this? The bizarre thing is it will open if I go through Finder, Apps, Illustrator, Show package contents, Contents, Mac OS, Adobe Illustrator it opens fine, it's just a pain in the rear to go that route.

    Justin,
In addition to what mo said, some have found that the page with the direct download link,

may turn up blank to start with, so it may be necessary to reload the page.

  • Unable to start Illustrator CS6 64-bit on Windows 7

I installed the CS6 Master Upgrade yesterday and almost all of the apps are working correctly. However, when I try to open Illustrator CS6 64-bit it returns this error message: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application." The 32-bit version works correctly. Any suggestions or similar cases? Thanks.

I feel like I need to chime in here.  I just installed my new Master Collection of CS6 all my x64 applications were working with the exception of Illustrator x64.  I Googled the heck out of this and found so much back and forth between adobe saying it's a microsoft issue (.net framework and redistributables) and microsoft saying it's an Adobe issue.
My windows installation is fairly fresh, but for the heck of it I tried unexpectedpanda's solution of uninstalling/re-installing the Microsoft Visual C Libraries.  I followed the instructions to the letter, I even went so far as to uninstall/re-install .net itself.  No luck.
I saw the Lightroom (error unable to start correctly) fix mentioned in a few places, and thought frick I've tried EVERYTHING else.  I did the following to fix this annoying issue:
    1) Download the Lightroom fix (mentioned in the link from crebimacedo)
    2) Extract the .dll files from the .zip.  There are 2 files; msvcr80.dll and msvcr100.dll
    3) Opened folder Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64 Bit)/Support Files/Contents/Windows
    4) The above folder already contains the msvcr80.dll so I did NOT overwrite it.  I simply copied and paste the msvcr100.dll into the above folder.
    5) Tried to launch Illustrator CS6 (x64) and imagine that. WORKING!
To me this says that this was indeed an Adobe issue and their installer appears to be missing a file.  Especially when a fix file from their website resolves the issue.
I would also just like to add that I have confirmed that this file already existed in my C:\Windows\System32 and in C:\WindowsSysWOW64 so my OS was NOT missing it as a .dll; again reiterating that it appears to make this an Adobe issue.
    Good luck to the rest.
This one works for me ...

  • Unable to open illustration. ID=-50

Hi,<br /><br />The topic on how to (maybe) fix this problem seems to be closed to replies so I'm starting a new thread.<br /><br />I have had the error Unable to open illustration. ID=-50 on a series of files which were, due to my diligent (paranoid?) method of working, several stage-by stage variants and incremental editions of a very large, very IMPORTANT file I was creating for the kind of client you don't give excuses to.<br /><br />The files, almost in their entirety, were unopenable and reporting the "Unable to open illustration. ID=-50" error. I discovered the error after I re-booted, having previously received a message telling me to re-install my tablet drivers, after which my machine ran very erratically. When I went to open the files, I was given a rude shock as file after file, version after version gave me the same error and refused to open... Oh, except versions 1 through 4. I was on version 28 at the time...<argh! Hulk smash!><br /><br />Fearing imminent death at the hands of a client, I figured out a workaround.<br /><br />It may not work for all of you, but please do try it. It may just save your hide from something you didn't cause in the first place. Hint: Adobe!!<br /><br />The first thing I did was to go and buy icecream: The industrial strength, full fat kind that'll send me to an early grave. I needed the support only empty calories could bring. :)<br /><br />Now onto the tech stuff:<br /><br />Back up everything first. Don't open the files, just copy them somewhere safe.<br /><br />Now, I selected the most recent version of my file and opened it by doing the following:<br /><br />Open Flash 8 (I don't know if this works in other versions, but this was the one I had on hand)<br />Make a new document<br />Click on the File menu<br />Select the 'import to stage' function<br />If a dialogue box appears reading "This file appears to be part of a sequence of images. Do you want to import all of the images in the sequence?" click 'Yes'<br />In the dialogue box that should appear next, click the following radio buttons in order and nothing more: <br /> Convert pages to Scenes<br /> Convert layers to Layers<br /> Which pages to import: All<br /> Include invisible layers<br /> Maintain Text Blocks<br />OK<br />The file should import as vector graphics but everything will probably be expanded. You may lose a few shapes. I did, but the vast majority was still there. I experienced some cropping though. This is not a perfect fix, but it should give you more to work with than nothing at all.<br /><br />If lots of things seem to be missing, look at the Flash timeline and make sure all the layers are visible. I freaked out and invented all new words to explain my situation before I realised half my layers were turned off. ;)<br /><br />Now,<br /><br />I exported the image from Flash as an .ai by clicking File>Export>Export Image. <br />I chose Adobe Illustrator 88 as the version, but play around with the version settings, you may get a better result, you may not.<br /><br />Open the image in Illustrator<br /><br />Zoom out to the max, as the image may appear off the canvas.<br />You'll probably have lost your layers. A pain, but at least the graphics are available. You may be able to work around this by exporting layer by layer from Flash or by doing something cool that I didn't think of at 1.30 in the morning. :)<br />In Illustrator, you can't move your graphics from off the canvas to back on the artboard, as Illustrator gives a "Can't move the objects. The requested transformation would make some objects fall completely off the drawing area" error.<br /><br />Instead, select all (Ctrl+A) and cut the objects (ctrl+x)<br />Make a new document<br />Paste the objects in the new document (Ctrl+v)<br />If you're like me, you'll have a fair few mistakes to fix, and your brushes library will have gone, along with your existing brushes having been expanded. It does however seem to keep paths, so you could re-instate the brushes if you want to by loading an external brush library and putting everything back by hand. My hat's off to you if you want to try that. :)<br /><br />Bugs:<br />I have had errors where the image has shown up in C

...oh, there's a word limit? Okay, that explains why the last half of my thread was cut off...;)
    Here's the rest:
    Bugs:
I have had errors where the image has shown up in CMYK whereas before it was RGB. I found this happened when I exported out of Flash using Illustrator 6.0 as my version. I solved this by exporting as 88. I also got more objects that way. May be coincidence, who knows.
    That's it!
    SAVE AS!!
I got paranoid and saved about 4 individual copies before I dared close and re-open to test the tenacity of the file. It seems okay...so far. You'll hear me screaming from the 4 corners of the globe if it's not.
I agree with the forums that using a Wacom or similar tablet coupled with brushes, the scissor tool and even the expansion of brushes was possibly to blame for this disaster.
    So...
I save often, back up regularly (not that it really matters since the error seems to be a dynamic fault that ruins the file on the fly..) and I haven't switched my computer off, nor closed Illustrator since I started again with using the aforementioned scissor, tablet combo, a necessary evil for me right now.
I'll close both the file and Illustrator when the job's been sent, approved and I can physically hold the printed version of my work in the client's magazine.
Better to be safe than sorry ;)
I sincerely hope this roundabout fix helps someone to at least ease the anxiety and understandable fury that this error causes. If not..well..you bought that icecream, right? ;)
    Happy Illustrating!
    L.

THis is safe for Mac's? Sorry, I have just never heard of this site before.
And there are literally tens of thousands of sites of which I've not heard, too. Not this one.
It's legit. There are lots of links in Apple Support Communities to the LibreOffice web site, as well as others that are legitimate open-source developers of options to buying MS Office, such as NeoOffice and OpenOffice. I have Open Office installed on one of my older Macs that can't run Office 2011 and it is rock-solid.
I've been here too long to start posting bogus urls now.
