Yosemite Battery

Dear all,
I installed Yosemite last night and I believed I turned off my computer before I went out for work this morning. But the power cord was plugged in to my computer power source. When I came back this evening, I found out that my battery was gone and there was just 0% of battery life. My battery condition showed "Normal".
Here are questions;
Is it because of the power cord plugged in to my mac?
Does my mac battery power drain when the power cord is plugged in?
Is there any problems with my macbook air?
Please help me!! I am confused now!!

Having the power cord attached will not drain the battery.  If the charger is connected to a properly functioning AC outlet it will charge the MBA.  If the charger is connected to the MBA but the not to the AC outlet, it should have no affect on the MBA.
What you are describing in not normal.  If dominic23's suggestion do not work, have the MBA examined by a repair facility.
Ciao.

    1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
    2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.8 or earlier.
    3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
if it's shown (it may not be.)
    4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
    5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • OS X Yosemite - Battery Percentage 'Stuck'

I recently updated my laptop (Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011) to OS X Yosemite from OS X Lion and have found that the battery percentage up in the top menu bar no longer displays the right information. It's almost as though it isn't updating at all to what the battery level should be. The only time that it 'updates' is when I turn the 'Show Percentage' option off and on - then the icon and the battery percentage changes to what it should be at. However, it then sticks at that until I turn 'Show Percentage' off and on again. It happens when charging too going the other way, I could have it on charge for hours from 8% or so and it'll stick at that number despite being fully charged until I 'update' it as per the above. I could even unplug the charger and it still displays the 'charging' icon rather than switching to the battery icon (despite the battery depleting as normal).
Also, whenever I charge it to 'full', it only ever gets to 98% now and says that the 'Battery is Charged'. I've attached a screenshot to show.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi ..
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver then select the Battery tab.
    Click:  Restore Defaults
    Then monitor the battery percentages.
If that didn't help, open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then monitor the battery percentage in the menu bar.

  • Yosemite battery life?

    Hi all,
I have a fully-spec'ed 2013 13" MBP and recently installed Yosemite. I had poor battery life earlier this week and this morning it happened again. My battery drained in less than 4 hours. It managed 8 hours on Mavericks.
I'm not running anything in the background. Most of the time I spend typing code in Xcode. I have checked Activity Monitor every now and then but saw nothing weird.
This isn't good as I upgraded to this laptop for its battery life.
    Is anyone else having issues?
    Best,
    Spencer

    Hi Spencer
I had the exact same issue on my 2012 MBP once upgrading to Yosemite, however Yosemite asks on the welcome screen if you want to turn FileVolt on, infact it is auto ticked to yes. So I did this (didn't know much about the feature) and found battery drained, almost halved. After a few days I decided to turn FileVolt off as it wasn't much use to me. I never used it in Mavericks.
I decided to turn it off (note this could take around 12hrs to turn off as it has to decrypt your entire Hard Drive. FileVolt was also slowing my system down a lot wile it was originally turning it's self on for the first time (took 12hrs to turn on originally as well).
Now that I have turned Filevolt off my battery is back to what I would expect it to be while running Mavericks. File volt can be found in System Preferences under Security & Privacy, FileVolt tab.
Hope this solves your battery problem.
    Shaun

  • Yosemite battery notification sound?

I've been trying to search online for an answer but still haven't come across one. Ever since I updated to Yosemite (from Mountain Lion), the low battery warning doesn't pop up nor make a noise. The only notification is the tiny low battery icon and the notification panel in the top right corner, but I'm usually busy with stuff going on in the center and bottom right, so I miss the "notification" until my battery runs out. I was looking through System Preferences, but there isn't an option for battery sound, so is there a way to have the battery notification to be more noticeable? Thanks!

It's been a while, but I was wondering if there has been any information regarding this released? My Yosemite was just updated, but I'm still having the same inconspicuous low battery warning issue.

Does anybody know when Apple will take this issue and fix it?

  • After upgrading to Yosemite under sleep mode for few hrs battery is getting discharged fully.

    System information
Mac book Pro 13 inch Retina  Early 2013
    Processor  - 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory - 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics - Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    Storage capacity - 500 GB
    OSX - 10.10
Ever since I have upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite - battery consumption has increased.
and MOST CRUCIAL ISSUE IS - under sleep mode battery is getting drained like anything ...
for eg - I had 70% charge last night and it got completely drained when I got up in the morning.
there was no charge left in the battery after 6 hrs under sleep mode and it is happening for last 5 days every night...
I have already tried various things as troubleshooting....
    Apple hardware test.
    SMC
    emptying caches etc....
observing activity monitor and finding any program taking more energy etc... (nothing is found)..
      L3 Cache: 3 MB
      Memory: 8 G

    UPDATE: Resolved!
Disabled all login items but problem persisted on normal boot. Resetting SMC and PRAM had no effect. After booting into Safe Boot, problem did not exist. Looked in console logs and saw this right as problem started to occur:
10/20/14 6:49:07.004 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.gspy.MO3V2Daemon[93967]) Could not find and/or execute program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory: /Library/MO3V2/MO3V2Daemon.app/Contents/MacOS/MO3V2Daemon
This pertains to the Steelseries WoW MMO gaming mouse. Ran the uninstall.command from Applications for this mouse software and rebooted. Fixed.
Light on MagSafe connector is orange, battery shows as charging, fan is not running constantly. I can't begin to understand how this would effect the battery charging functions but, after uninstalling this, the problem was resolved. Hope this will help someone else.

  • Battery discharging and fan running constantly after upgrading to Yosemite

MBP Early 2011. Just got back a month ago from Apple Support for video related issue. Almost EVERYTHING was replaced (logic board, video, ram, battery, cdrom, even my dented case. Thank you Apple!). Has run for a month flawlessly on Mavericks. Upgraded to Yosemite 48 hours ago. Light on magsafe stays green. Battery indicator icon states Battery is not charging (currently at 75% and falling). Power source: Power adapter. While plugged in and operating, battery is discharging and fan constantly running. If I shut down, mag safe light turns yellow and battery will charge to 100%. If left plugged in and running in Yosemite, battery will drain all the way down.
    Have tried:
Rebooting, putting into sleep mode, shutting down completely, unplugging and replugging power supply from wall and MBP while on and off, resetting SMC with Shift Control Option Power keys/buttons.
No third party battery or power apps installed, fresh load of Mavericks from factory when I got it back. This feels like something with the new energy management in Yosemite isn't working as expected to me. Thoughts & suggestions appreciated!

  • 2013 Retina MacBook Pro battery problem on Yosemite

Yosemite Battery Issue. Hi there. I have a late 2013 retina MacBook Pro, 13". Until upgrading to Yosemite I got almost 9 hours of use per charge. Now I get 2.5 to 3 hours. I can literally watch the battery indicator countdown. I turned off Bluetooth, I checked Activity Monitor. Nothing unusual going on that I can see. The battery is used up fast with just email and Safari open. Not a problem in Mavericks. Any ideas? Just another Yosemite bug? The diminution of use on battery is profound.

I have the same late 2013 retina laptop.
Same issues - battery level dropping 1% every minute after upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks.
I don't use the Calendar however I noticed three services were all using more CPU than any others; Calendar Agent, AddressBookSourceSync and Openvpn-service.
    My solution:
    1. Turn off all calendar syncing by going to System Preferences > Internet Accounts and un-ticking Calendar (I use Google Calendar anyhow).
    2. Top menu Finder > Go > Go to Folder ''~/Library/Calendars" and delete all the files in there- yer, I'm ruthless like that!
    3. Top menu Finder > Go > Go to Folder "~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook" and deleted everything in there too.
    4. Restarted calendar so it resets itself.
    5. Reboot.
Result is that my three hogs have all been silenced - AddressBookSourceSync seemed to be using Openvpn-service was stuck and I guess the same for the calendar.
Battery life is back to 7 hours+ where it should be and the laptop is no longer on fire.  I hope this helps someone

  • Mac Book Pro Service Battery Options

    Hi, I have a Mac Book Pro 5,5 mid 2009 13'.
The battery status shows up as "service battery". Can anyone tell me what are my options and also if I don't do anything, what are the consequences.
    Here is my battery's info.
    Thanks,
    Macs for the Win.

    Hi Macs for the Win,
If you are seeing a "Service Battery" status on your MacBook Pro, you may find the information outlined in the following article helpful:
Service Battery: The battery isn’t functioning normally, and you may or may not notice a change in its behavior or the amount of charge it holds. Take your computer in for service. You can continue to use your battery before it’s checked without harming your computer.

  • Extend or replace battery MacBook Pro Retina

    Dear All,
I own a MacBook Pro Retina 13' 2.4Ghz/4GB (2013) but the battery life has been terrible in the last couple of months. I probably get around 3-4 hours doing simple things like Safari on 30/40% screen brightness. The drop in battery life has been significant. MacBook is 1.2 years old and 275 cycles. I really need more than 3-4 hours.
    Two questions:
    1. What can I do to extend the battery life. I aim around 5 hours of usage.
    2. Could I replace the battery of my MacBook?
    Thanks in advance.

    Well like Kappy says.
Also this is a known issue:
    http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/11/10/os-x-yosemite-problems-fixes/
"Soon after the release we heard complaints about OS X Yosemite battery life problems. The battery life drains much faster than normal for some users. For many, this is likely due to spotlight indexing after the update and using the battery faster. Typically this will resolve itself after a day or two."
They also want you to look at activity monitor.

  • Macbook air 2012 battery issues after upgrading to Yosemite

Ever since upgrading to Yosemite about 2 months ago the battery on my MBA mid-2012 has been acting strangely. The battery drains considerably while sleeping with the lid closed. I don't use the laptop every day so it can often sleep for a few days. It's so bad that after 2-3 nights the battery is completely dead. I've reset the SMC, but so far it has not helped.
    Any ideas on the cause?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi beekatt,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below will offer some suggestions if your battery is draining quickly.  Have you tried shutting the computer down to see if you get different results?
OS X Yosemite: If your battery runs out of charge quickly
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18599?viewlocale=en_US
If your battery on your portable Mac runs out of charge more quickly than you expected, check your battery’s condition.
Hold down the Option key and click the battery icon  in the menu bar of your Mac.
You will see one of the following conditions:
Normal: The battery is functioning normally.
Replace Soon: The battery is functioning normally but holds less charge than it did when it was new.
Replace Now: The battery is functioning normally but holds significantly less charge than it could when it was new. You can continue to use your battery until you replace it without harming your Mac.
Service Battery: Your battery is not functioning normally, and you should have your Mac serviced.
    Monitor your portable computer’s battery
If your battery won’t charge completely
If your battery’s status is Not Charging
If an X appears on the battery icon in the menu bar
I hope this information helps ....

  • Since downloading Yosemite, I have had performance, battery, and overheating issues. Help?

    Hello,
I've been quite unfortunate with my laptop (Macbook Pro Early 2011) ever since downloading the Yosemite OS. It has been plagued with extremely slow speeds when running basically anything, the fan runs constantly, and the battery drains at a rate of 1% every minute it seems. I can typically only get an hour or 2 out of my MBP without having to run and find an outlet.
The performance is extremely slow when opening apps, but not so bad once they are open and running. However, switching apps (e.g. from Chrome to iTunes) causes a long lag and leaves me unproductive. Some apps don't even open. It takes about 5 minutes to open one app, and about 15 minutes on average to use my computer once again after restarting.
I've looked at various other discussions where people had problems, but each situation seemed unique with no solution working for everyone. I used Etrecheck to analyze my computer, but not knowing a lot about computers, I didn't find a solution. Below you will find the data. Any insight or solutions would help so much! I hate always having to be plugged in and burning my legs when my laptop is on my lap.

  • Yosemite is draining my battery. Please help.

Hi! Look like parallels is draining my battery each time it gets connected. The battery drain only started 1 month after I upgraded to Yosemite.
Can anyone help please? Would using Boot Camp resolve this problem? Do I need to reload win 8 after setting up Boot Camp?
    Thanks in advance.

The title of this topic is wrong. Parallels/Windows is draining your battery. Perhaps the Parallels forums are the best place to look for a solution. E.g.:

  • Macbook Pro heating up and draining battery after yosemite upgrade.

On Friday, I upgraded to Yosemite and I really like it. However my computer keeps heating up very quickly when doing simple tasks and the battery also drains. About 1% every 2 minutes when on Safari and having Pages open in the background. What can I do to slow down the battery drain. Before, on Mavericks I could get a whole day on Safari but now about half a day.
This is the report that I got from EtreCheck.

Nothing obvious here, but better get rid of that remnant of CleanMyMac2. Also check if all software with kernel extensions, launch agents and launch daemons is still necessary and up to date (if not uninstall or update).
