Yosemite blocks plug in and won't start an application that Mavericks would. Why?

I recently upgraded my MacBook Pro from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.1.  Mavericks would launch my Berlitz Learning System 8.  Now using Yosemite, I can't open the Berlitz application.  It indicates that a plug in is being blocked.  How can I find and un-block the plug in?

Contact Berlitz to find out if they have updated software compatible with Yosemite. The software you now have is not compatible. See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

Thank you, found it!  However, my real issue is a blocked plug in.  Another person was having the same issue and they where told to do this:
    Additional Information
If you need to re-enable an out-of-date version of Flash Player, you can do the following:
Navigate to the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (Disabled) folder.
    Drag "Flash Player.plugin" into /Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
If the browser is running, quit and restart it.
Which I do not have a Internet Plug-Ins (disabled) folder?  Can I just drag the Flash Player Plug In to the trash and start over?  Help!!

  • IPad is full but says it needs charging and won't start

After charging my iPad all night long from a wall plug in sleep mode, it says it needs charging when I unplug it and won't start. Even holding the two buttons doesn't do anything. I know it's charged because after leaving it unplugged for some time (can take from a quarter of an hour to a whole day) if i reset it, it miraculously decides to work, and when it does, the battery level is at 100%. This is a real pain.
Anyone else has had the same issue? Any idea how to fix it?

Work through the tips in http://support.apple.com/kb/YS3281 and see if that helps.  If not, a visit to an Apple store genius bar for testing by the techs would be in order.

  • Mac has a Question Mark in a folder and won't start up

Mac has a ? mark in a folder and won't start up

This can mean a few things. First, one of the main, critical files are missing in the system or some how it was entered into recovery mode. Try holding the power button down until it turns off. Turn it back on. If that doesn't work try downloading the 10.7 recovery assistant from Apple's site. Put that on a USB key and plug that in. Turn on the computer. Hold the recovery hot key (should say on Apple's site) while booting up to enter into the recovery software. Hope this helps.

Means you either have an outdated Flash Player installed, or an outdated Flash Player component remains on your system.  You need to perform a clean install

    Try this:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • My ipad has a black screen and won't start, any ideas?

My Ipad 1 has a black screen and won't start, any ideas?  It is charged.

If Paul's advice doesn't work try this.
Hold down on the sleep button AND the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
BTW ...In order to start up under normal circumstances you only need to hold down on the sleep button for a couple of seconds or so until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

  • My IMAC seems to have died after power surge. It shut down and won't start.  What shall I do?

my IMAC seems to have died after power surge. It shut down and won't start.  What shall I do?

I would recommend you try an SMC reset at this point:
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
If that fails to solve it, it is probable that the power surge damaged some of your iMac's hardware components, and will need to be repaired at an Apple Authorized Service Center.
