Yosemite bug? Itunes Home sharing does not see library on additional drive

I have a 2011 iMac 27" with two internal drives, an 256GB SSD main drive and a 3TB hard drive (/Volumes/Media). My iTunes library is held on the 3TB drive for space reasons, and the correct path to the library is in Preferences > Advanced. I have enabled Home Sharing, and have made sure that the sharing tab is correctly set to allow all content to be visible.
On my 2010 Macbook Pro, I can connect to the iMac iTunes through Home Sharing (there is an entry in the drop down list at top left), but I can see no content at all.
If I change the path to back to the default library in Preferences on the SSD drive (i.e. /Users/david/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media) rather than the real library (/Volumes/Media/Itunes/Itunes Media) and import a song, then that song immediately becomes visible on the Macbook Pro.
Therefore, the actual mechanism for streaming the content seems to be working, but it only seems to work if the library is on the default disk.
Is this

iTunes 9 Home Sharing does not work on Windows 7 x64.
    Getting the following error message:
Home sharing could not be activated because this computer is not authorized for the account "iTunes account." Please authorize this computer and try again.
This is a bug since my computer is authorized in iTunes and there is only 2 computer authorized for my iTunes account, so I have 3 more left till I should get this message.
I've just upgraded my iPhone to OS 3.1 using it this morning.
    Please advise.
Environment: Windows 7 x64, HP TouchSmart tx2-1020us Notebook

    I am using Windows 7 x64.
    I am running iTunes 9.0.2.25
    I am running Mcafee.
I can see and play music from the iTunes installation on my Windows 7 machine, but I CANNOT access the library to copy songs from this computer to other computers on my network.
YES, I have enabled "Home Sharing" using my iTunes account. NO, I have not authorized more than 5 computers on this account.
I believe this to be a Windows 7 related issue, as Home Sharing worked as advertised when I was using Vista (before I upgraded to Windows 7).
I CAN set up Home Sharing on two other (host) computers in my home network and it works. These computers are XP and a MacBook Pro. I CANNOT access my Windows 7 machine x64 to COPY music from one autorized library to another. Please help!!!
P.S. - I have attempted to get this to work by turning OFF my McAfee firewall. Windows firewall is disabled.

  • Home sharing does not work with new mountain lion update.

home sharing does not work with new mountain lion update. Does anyone else have the same issue. Updated all computers in my home, deauthorized and reauthorized each computer. turn off home sharing and turned it back on. don't know what else to do..please help...

Our Apple TVs continue to lose connection ever since installing Mountain Lion on the host computer. The only thing that fixes them is to quit and relaunch iTunes, which only works unti the ATV goes to sleep. If a movie is paused for more than a few minutes and the ATV goes to sleep, pressing play again on the remote is greeted with "There are no movies on this computer" or "Turn on Home Sharing."
If we stop a video on one ATV and attempt to resume it in another room, the error begins again. The other ATV can't connect until iTunes is relaunched.
My guess is that it has something to do with the new [annoying] security settings. But I still haven't found a fix other than restarting iTunes everytime we want to watch something from our downloads. Fail.

  • Home Sharing does not work. It's time for Apple to act.

My specific question: Does anyone from Apple read these discussions *and* use the information to fix iTunes?
My issue (and I've given up on this): Home Sharing does not work and it needs to be fixed. I use a Windows 7 based PC and can successfully access my iTunes library from my iPad, meaning all network requirements are met. However many artists and albums do not appear. I know this is not about the tagging/data for the albums.
I found recommendations in these forums regarding the iTunes database (.itl), that this is a sign that the database is corrupted, and how to re-create it from the xml version. I used this technique and it did fix the problem - all albums and artists appeared. But within a day or so, they disappear again, meaning the .itl file is corrupted again and has to be re-created again. Also - if the .itl file is corrupted, then why does everything appear fine in iTunes? Somewhere, somehow the data are good enough to make iTunes work properly.
Bottom line: If you can't get the basics right, then Home Sharing does not work. Some very helpful forum commenters said it could have something to do with the anti-virus software, but that is just passing the buck.  I should not have to know how to do all this. I should be able to turn on Home Sharing and enjoy the music from my iPads, iPhone, etc. Imagine you have to know how fuel injection works and be able to fix it every two days just to use your car - you should be able to turn the key and drive.
There are more problems - I won't even get into how the album won't display properly on the iPad and other annoyances.
Apple? Are you listening? Home Sharing does not work. It is the opposite of the image projected of easy-to-use, people-friendly products.
I suggest you either make it work or turn off the feature.
    Joe

If your database is constantly becoming corrupt, you have a problem on your computer, it is nothing to do with homesharing. The corrupt database does not affect iTunes because that uses another file. It's not passing the buck, by considering whether anti-virus software might be causing this, this is the sort of stuff anti-virus software does (although I'm not saying that's what it is in your case-I don't know at this stage), you can't hold Apple accountable for badly written software that you have put on your computer yourself.
If you can't correctly identify what is causing your problem, you are never going to fix it.

  • ITunes Home sharing is not being received on my

Current home network MBP, MBA and a Windows PC.  All are using the same iTunes account. All are on the same local network.  All have home sharing turned on and all can view all media stored on the other machines.
I also have two televisions both with apple TVs.  However, the main media server the MBP, of recent times has had two problems.  Firstly, when serving media to the apple TV it will not allow video media purchased thorugh the iTunes store to be played on the Apple TV noting home sharing is not turned on.  However the same media can be played on the other computers using home sharing.
More recently, the MBP will be identified as an available computer on the apple TV however, when connection is attempted it fails.  However if I use Airplay, I can stream from the MBP to the Apple TV. The other two computers can serve media to the apple TV's without an problem.
I have rebooted and reloaded software on the Apple TV.
I have deleted and reinstalled iTunes on the MBP.
I am at a loss what to look for now.
    Any ideas.

when serving media to the apple TV it will not allow video media purchased thorugh the iTunes store to be played on the Apple TV
Meaning what?  What happens when you try to play it?  Did you activate ATV with your iTunes account?

  • Itunes 9.2 does not see my iphone 3GS

I have now reinstalled itunes 9.2 3 times in order to download the new software verion for my iphon. First it kep saying there were files missing so I reinstalled and reinstalled. Now I can see my library in itunes but it will not see my iphone, nor will it charge the phone. I have used different USB ports and iphone connectors all to no avail. Can anyone help please?

The same thing happened to me and it took me days to figure it out. Check the USB drivers. I noticed after updating/uninstalling/re-installing itunes 9.2, windows would update the latest drivers to my iphone when I connect it for the first time. It did this every time. Windows kept giving it a generic camera driver. Although it recognized it as an Apple iPhone, make sure it finds this driver: usaapl found in the c:\program files\common files\apple\mobile device\drivers folder (Windows Vista 64-bit)

  • Aperture import does not see files on hard drive

This happens again and again, and it's EXTREMELY irritating.
I am trying to import some existing JPEGs on my Desktop. When I try Import in Aperture, the file browser simply does not see most files and folders. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. It seems to happen on a whim. This is very bad, I have just about had it with Aperture. And yes, permissions are set correctly.
Can anyone figure out on what basis Aperture sees or does not see certain files/folders?

I am trying to import some existing JPEGs on my Desktop.
Do you mean your Desktop folder? And is the Desktop folder the only folder that is showing this behaviour?  I have never had problems to open images directly from the Desktop. Have the image files been dropped directly onto the the Desktop or into a subfolder of the Desktop?
Previous MacOS X versions had problems with a huge number of files on the Desktop because this folder has been treated in a special way.
Which version of Aperture and MacOS X are you using?
It might be a problem with permissions or file ownership.
If the problem with your Desktop folder persists you could try to reset the permissions, ownership, and access control lists on your Home folder as described in Linc Davis's post here:  Re: iPhoto returns OSStatus error -54
Have you by any chance encrypted your Home folder by File Vault?

  • Home sharing does not work with iTunes 12

I have been using home sharing with iTunes a lot, mainly to stream TV shows from my Mac Pro (2008) to my Apple TV (3rd Gen). But after installing Yosemite and iTunes 12 it doesn't work any longer. My Apple TV finds the iTunes Library, but can't connect with it. At the same time home sharing worked just fine with my iPhone 5 and iPad 2 (iOS 8.0.2). After installing iOS 8.1 home sharing with my iOS devices doesn't work, too – same problem as with Apple TV: iTunes library is found but devices can't connect with it.
I already tried to solve the problem with the suggestions on Apples troubleshooting page:  Fehlerbehebungsmaßnahmen für die Privatfreigabe
    My setup:
Mac Pro (2008) with OS X 10.10 (14A389), iTunes 12.0.1.26, connected via Ethernet and WiFi
    Router: Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7270
    iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1
    iPad 2 with 8.1
Apple TV (3rd Gen), newest software update, connected via Ethernet
Any ideas, what the reason for that problem could be and how to solve it?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
BTW: Sorry for my English. I am not a native speaker.
    Greetings from Germany

I had the same problem after updating to iTunes 12 and using my iPhone 6.
I have solved it by doing these simple steps:
    1. Turn off Home Sharing in iTunes. Close it.
    2. In your iOS 8 device, Turn on Home Sharing: Settings/Music/Home Sharing
    3. Open back iTunes
It looks like in one of the updates, possibly iOS 8.1, had signed off Home Sharing completely.

  • Music home sharing does not work for my ipad1 since my last itunes update.

This used to work, but since I updated itunes on my computer a few months ago, I cannot see the shared library on  my ipad. My ipad runs iOS5, and my computer has itunes11. I have tried all the tips in the support section. Tonight I saw the shared library under MORE while e ipad was linked to the computer via USB. As soon as I disconnected the cable, I lost the shared library.
The WiFi connection is fine, however. I am using it now to connect and ask this question.
Furthermore, why does my ipad not see my itunes music on the cloud? My work computer is logged on to my mac account and can play my music there, but my ipad cannot see the cloud or do home sharing anymore. Is this a strategy to force me to buy a newer ipad?

    Hi Wink65,
If your iPad is not able to see the Home Sharing music, I would recommend trying some steps in this article:
    Troubleshooting Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
Specifically, I'd pay special attention to steps 3 and 6, but a full run-through of the article would be the most thorough.

  • ITunes/Music Home sharing does not work on my iPad Air

No matter what I do I cannot use Music.app on my iPad Air to play music from my iTunes Library with Home-Sharing switched on. The Library name correctly appears in the Music.app source list after the loading symbol takes an age to complete. When it appears to have connected to the Library on my Mac, contents of my Library are shown in the app but I cannot play anything. If I select an albumn and press Play the Music.app merely cycles rapidly through all the track titles of the Album and then stops. Nothing plays. I've tried dozens of times to get this to work, even rebuilding my iTunes Library. Nothing seems to cure the problem. I can connect and play via Plex which is just plain daft seeing Apple designed all the software/hardware but they, themselves, cannot correctly code for this basic functionality.
Also, not all Album cover artwork is displayed correctly.
It seems many of the things I bought the iPad for are non-functional and the tablet is virtually useless. I can't beleive Apple would produce software and hardware which is specifically made to work harmoniously but obviously doesn't.
    Any help, here, please?
I'm also having problems with Bluetooth connecting to my Mac Pro (2008)... Namly, it will not.

  • Home sharing does not work after update to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9

I am using home sharing since about a year without any problems. After updating to snow leopard 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 it suddenly does not work anymore.
On my iMac and my Mac Book Pro I get error code 3259 and it tells me to check my firewall and to enable Port 3689.
I did not change anything in the firewall settings, itunes on both allows data traffic in both directions. I also do not find any option to activate a port ( also wondering why this is suddenly now necessary)
I deactivated home sharing on both machines and enabled it again. It still does not work.
On both machines iTunes displays the the library on the left side but like said it is not accessable
With Finder I can access the other computer from both machines without any problem.
Any help to solve this would be very much appreciated

first of all, if you are behind a router firewall, and have your network secured (WPA2 and a long, non-dictionary password made up of letters and numbers), you don't need the software firewall on your Mac(s).
@ least turned if off for troubleshooting purposes.
turn home sharing off on both computers, and make sure
    (a) both Macs have access to the internet
    (b) iTunes on both machines is authorized for the same iTunes account.
turn home sharing back on on both Macs.
    does it work ?
