Yosemite causing slow screen refresh using TOS

Problem description:
I use my iMac for trading with a java script app called ‘ThinkOrSwim’.  It was working fine with Mavericks then I upgraded to Yosemite.  Problems continue even when upgrading my RAM from 4GB to 16GB.  Overtime the Screen refreshes get really slow after using the ‘TOS’ Platform for 2-3 hours.  Have to do a SMC Reset to be able to use the ‘TOS’ platform once it becomes too unbearable to work with it.

I just want to add that to further this improvement, I also disabled stat menus, and anything on the menu bar that caused the screen to refresh. I disabled transparency, the genie effect, and forced quit the window server on the activity monitor, and disabled the dashboard and the system preference "displays have separate spaces" - which required a re-login.
I also left the auto-switching on the nergey preferences to the GPU to always use the 330m, rather than the intel hd card.
Basically, I disabled anything that made any extra load on the GPU.

  • Windows 8.1 slow screen refresh

What could be wrong with my Windows 8.1. Everything is noticeably laggy and slow when browsing web pages and using normal apps like file explorer. It feels like I'm using this computer via somekind of a remote connection.
I have Windows 8.1 x64 installed to Dell M4600 laptop (GPU Nvidia Quadro). I have all the latest available drivers and updates.
If I remove and reinstall Nvidia drivers this problem goes away for a while but then it comes back. I have tried 3 different driver versions but it doesn't change anything.

    Hi,
For this issue, I agree with Mike.
Based on my search, Dell has not tested Windows 8.1 on this system model.
Refer to the following link for more information for systems which are eligible for upgrade:

Since you have already upgraded to Windows 8.1 you may try installing the Windows 8 driver in the compatibility mode. Follow the instruction provided below for the same.
Download the windows 8 driver and double click on the file and extract it on the desktop in a folder.
1.Look for setup file in the extracted folder. Right click ‘.exe’ file and click ‘Properties’.
2.Click “install in compatibility mode’. Click on Application and select ‘Troubleshoot Compatibility’.
3.Next, click on ‘Troubleshoot Program’. Click on Program worked in earlier versions of Windows.
4.Click on ‘Windows 8’.Click on ‘Start the Program’. Do not hit ‘Next’ until the installation completes.
5.Once the installation completes, click on ‘Next’.
    Hope this helps.

  • Screen refresh problem in kde4 with konsole, nvidia and compiz

    Hi,
I have for the last month or so been experiencing really slow screen refreshes in konsole. What happens is that the text often doesn't get refreshed and you end up with the cursor not on the correct line, blocks all over the konsole window and blank areas of text. Minimising and maximising the konsole windows seems to refresh them as does using compiz's scale plugin. As I spend pretty much all day using konsole this has been really annoying. I have today however found a fix in this bug report:- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … mments=all
This was to go into ccsm, enable workaronds under utility and make sure "Force syncronization between X and GLX" is ticked.
Thought I'd share is this has really been doing my head in, so hope this helps someone else!

  • NMac Pro 6core D500 problems with screen refresh: 10.9.3 warning!

Avoid 10.9.3 on the Mac Pro 6 core, D500.
Problem with screen refresh using Motion soon after updating OSX from Mac Pro late 2013 version of 10.9.2.
I tried my Asus HDMI at all resolutions but to no avial. The screen juddered like it was Windows 95 without any GPU drivers.
Apple's Tech Support had me use many key commands and finally we found out there was no issue with my hardware. Apple suggested a clean install before sending it back for repair. I was fortunate to have had made a backup in the Time Machine of my computer soon after installing all my apps. After restoring my computer is running 10.9.2 version made for the Mac Pros Late 2013. There are no more problems with screen redraw after using Motion.
So, it is clear I cannot upgrade my Mac Pro to 10.9.3 while the issue with Motion's render engine messing with my screen refresh continues. Returning to 10.9.2 has made me realize 10.9.3 is slower and not as stable.
I would suggest not upgrading unless you have a 4k monitor.

  • How to change screen refresh rate in windows 7sp1 and windows 8.1 iso image using dism

sir when i install windows 7sp1 and windows 8.1 then after the completion of setup when first time windows boots up then task bar is not shown and display is not clear and when i check under monitor settings the screen refresh rate is 60 Hertz and when i
set the screen refresh rate from 60 Hertz to 75 Hertz, then everything is OK, plz tell me why this happens?
why windows 7 sp1 and windows 8.1 automatically sets the screen refresh rate to 60Hertz instead of 75Hertz.
how can i set screen refresh rate 75 Hertz permanently in iso image using DISM ?

That is not a function of DISM. Resolution and refresh rate capabilities can be determined by multiple causes. Drivers are one, another is that most modern displays will report their capabilities to Windows.
You can specify display settings with an answer file however:
    <Display>
    <HorizontalResolution>640</HorizontalResolution>
    <VerticalResolution>480</VerticalResolution>
    <ColorDepth>16</ColorDepth>
    <RefreshRate>60</RefreshRate>
    </Display>

  • RDP Screen Refresh Slow

I was running Windows 2012 Essentials and recently rebuilt the system with R2.  Since doing so RDP screen refresh is extremely slow.  I published a video on YouTube to show using ImgBurn as instead of me moving something around the screen and you
wondering how fast I'm moving it you can see this program refresh speed.
    http://youtu.be/yFABQlwIC0M
I've tried setting 1000/Full and Auto/Audo on the network card, setting display resolution lower or same on MS Remote Desktop client as is on the server, make sure the screen colors match between client and server.
Note this machine has videos (1080p) on it and I can map a drive and watch content from it on a remote computer without issue so seems like the "network" connection is working ok on my gigabit Ethernet.  Also computer sitting right next to
it is running Windows 7 and remoting into it works flawlessly.
Lastly, it always does this.  Rebooting doesn't help, logging in a second time doesn't help.  Attaching a monitor and keyboard and running stuff works smoothly.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Steve

I don't have an answer but wondering if you have tried updating the video driver on that system?
Larry Struckmeyer[MVP] If your question is answered please mark the response as the answer so that others can benefit.
Does the video driver effect RDP? I thought it would originally however read in a few places that RDP uses a separate video subsystem to display on the remote computer.  Which makes sense because I've had computers with no graphic cards installed and
    RDP works fine.
    Steve
EDIT:  Updated to the latest NVidia Windows 8.1 drivers and same deal.  On the desktop everything is fine when I attached a monitor to the server but not remotely.

  • PrE 11 Causes Screen Refresh Failure

I am working on a relatively new (less than six months out of the factory) Lenovo W530 laptop and whenever I move the window containing PrE around on the display it leaves a continuous trail behind wherever the window has been, as per this example.
The really baffling thing is that this problem does NOT happen with any other program I use, including Photshop Elements. I will note that forcing a screen refresh (F5) will restore the underlying desktop display but not any other windows that have been overwritten.
I have updated all video drivers to the most current (see notes below) and have deleted the BadDrivers.txt file as suggested in the support forum.
I am running Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) with a 1.0Tb hard drive and 8.0Gb of main memory. My laptop display is controlled by an Intel HD Graphics 4000 with driver version 9.17.10.2843 which is dated 08-21-2012. (I did discover that an updated driver has just been released from Intel in the last week, but that version is not available from Lenovo yet.)
Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome. Many thanks in advance for your  consideration.

    Randy,
Just a thought here, and actually applying to a different program, Premiere Pro, and to nVidia cards, but perhaps you have similar controls in your AMD/ATI Catalyst console:
Some users were having similar issues with screen redraw in PrPro, with nVidia graphics cards, with the latest nVidia driver. The cause was in the settings for 3D Acceleration. When those users set the 3D Acceleration to "Let program decide," (or very similar syntax), the redraw issues disappeared.
You say that you have tried various settings, but I assume that you were working in the OS controls (BTW - Aero has caused some screen redraw issues, and in earlier OS's, users have just disabled that). Check out the setting in your Catalyst console, to see what you have available to you.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I have a similar issue (looks about the same as the OP's screen-cap, and is really noticeable in the Program Monitor), but my problem is that I am still running XP-Pro SP3 on this laptop. My nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX card has the last driver from nVidia, but with my old OS, that driver is now about 2 years old, and will never be replaced. I am stuck, until I upgrade the OS to Win7, but will probably have to stay with 32-bit, since I can only fit 4GB RAM on the laptop's old MoBo. I have a new Win7-64 laptop, as a replacement, so all is not lost.

Thanks for the suggestion, the next step was to call Apple, who gave me a claim number, which I discovered you must have to get anything done with them.  They refered me to a Apple store or repair center, after some reseach took it to the Computer Store in Mobile, Alabama and they were excellent.  They took pictures of the screen with bug submitted it to Apple who denied the claim but they kept kicking it up to the next level and finally Apple agreed to sent new cover.  The Computer Store had the cover the next day, they changed it out and now I am bug free.  If your in the area of Mobile Alabama you can feel good about getting help from the Computer Store.  For the two folks that responded to my note, Thank You, good comments and good advice.

  • Screen refresh for participants very slow on beehive web conference

When I am sharing my desktop with participant on Beehive web conference, the screen refresh is very slow for the participants. It almost takes 1 minute for the screen to refresh on the participants screen. I am on Windows 7.
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Given we have very little control over the network bandwidth of the end user it is difficult to determine what the problem could be - normally the refresh is reasonably fast but if there are a lot of users or a restricted bandwidth it can show down a bit.
One trick to aid the display is to not move the mouse around the screen - pointing to the entities on the page will increase the amount of information being sent. If you can click one and wait for the screen to be rendered at the other end before continuing it may be a bit quicker.

Tried the start with C held down, also with option held down.  All it does is beeps at me three times, then again three times.....
I want to remove yosimite and install Snow leopard from dvd as yosimite runs worse than a Windows OS.
Can it be done, what do I need to do please?
Examples of faults,  even with a 1tb solid state drive and 16 gig of ram, it is incredibly slow.  Took four hours to install Logic 8 last night, I still have to reinstall logic 9 upgrade.   On the White MacBooks I got both 8 and 9 installed in under an hour and a half all up.
Beeping on startup means failed RAM.
Slowness is usually caused by incompatible third-party system modifications.

  • Is there a way to speed up Premiere's screen refresh when editing?

    Hello all!
I've been doing a lot of editing in the time-line.  I'm editing two concurrent video tracks, and three concurrent audio tracks.
Whenever I split or delete portions of a clip, Premiere re-draws the tracks which takes several seconds (maybe 7 seconds or so?).
I know it doesn't seem to be a lot of time, but I am making many edits and it slows me down.
I know that if one "turns-off" the fancy graphics that display little video pictures and audio waveform displays that this screen refresh goes faster.
But is there some I should be setting to optimize my computer specific to screen refresh?
I believe I have mucho RAM, 500 gig of "extra" disk space, a fast dual core processor and am running Windows XP.
My project is located on a secondary drive.
Would a fancy video card help speed up the screen refresh?
    Thanks!
    --Tom Nickel

    Hunt,
(By the way, thanks to everyone for all the time that they're putting into this thread.  I didn't think that it
would have evolved into such complexity ..)
My Windows Hardware Acceleration was set "all the way to the right".
I tried it "all the way to the left" and then, just one "notch" less than "all the way to the right".
    (Hope that makes sense!)
It didn't fix the problem :-(
(Do I need to re-start Windows when I change this setting?  I did not do that ..)
    Here is some more information:
I think I had first noticed the video latency last August.  I had attributed it to a lack of hard drive space and
installed a new internal hard drive (I have four 500G sata hard drives in my computer.)
Also, I had installed Premiere 7 on my computer about two weeks ago.  (I have been using "3" to date.)
Both 3 and 7 act the same way, so I'm thinking that the issue probably isn't caused by a corrupt installation of Premiere.
I would suspect having both 3 and 7 installed concurrently as the culprit, but the issue existed long before installing 7.
If it were a system RAM failure, I'd suspect that I'd see a far more catastrophic failure?
And, when the video is playing "catch-up", I'm not seeing excessive drive activity, so I'm not sure
how big a role that the hard drove(s) are playing in this anomaly.
re: hard drives - the only set-up that I changed in the BIOS when installing hard drives was to turn on the
SATA interface for the drives .. maybe I've missed an optimization?
Maybe I need to go thru the "optimize your PC" list ..
Last thought for now:  Is my Nividia GeForce video card adequate?  I've got another video card that I can try.
    Thanks copiously again!

  • Premiere Elements 10 slow GUI refresh

    Hi all,
I am experiencing a very slow GUI refresh rate using Premiere Elements 10. It has been happening since I first started using the program, but I am using it a bit more now and it's starting to frustrate me.
Basically, as soon as I open the program and create a new project, any action which changes the screen e.g. maximising, resizing the timeline, changing the timeline scale etc. occurs very slowly. For example, maximising the window takes approximately 4 seconds to complete, and resizing the timeline is very laggy.
It is shown reasonably well in the following clip, although it is much more pronounced for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C7GbqXir8o&feature=youtu.be
This issue has been discussed in a few other questions, but none resolved the issue (that I have found) or have kind of gone off topic, so thought I would ask myself in an effort to resolve it.
A couple of points to note:
Occurs WITHOUT any video loaded i.e. with a completely empty project. (Loading video doesn't have any effect)
It is not affected by the selected preset. They all have the same issue.
Somewhat curiously, playback of video is fine.
Disabling desktop composition as suggested in another post on this issue results in a slight improvement, but certainly does not make it go away.
    Computer specs:
Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1 (I am using the 64 bit version of premiere elements)
    Core i5 2500
    8 Gb RAM
    EVGA GTX 460 1Gb
    Asus Z77 sabretooth motherboard
Primary drive 2x 64Gb SSD's RAID 1 (OS and performance sensitive applications incl. Premier Elements)
    Secondary drive 2x 1Tb HDD's RAID 1 (Other applications & data storage)
Note that the drive configuration and motherboard have been changed recently, and had no effect on this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks everyone for the responses, I really appreciate your assistance and thoughts.
Here goes with how I have got on with your suggestions/answers to your questions:
    Steve:
First of all let me just make it clear that this is occurring with nothing loaded - a completely blank project. Also, it would appear that it is a window refresh issue rather than program performance as such, as rendering/playback work just fine. This is just my initial impression though.
Footage is  from a GoPro HD Hero 2, recorded in 720p at 60 fps (actually 59.94). I convert it to .avi using the GoPro Cineform software prior to editing. I use the DSLR 720p 60 preset. I have also tried the 720p60 AVCHD LITE preset which does not have any noticeable effect on the issue. I have tried using unconverted footage straight from the camera; again this has no noticeable effect on the issue. When I add video to the timeline, there is no red line above it  - although when I apply an effect e.g. brightness and contrast one does appear.
I have never used still images so I don't know if they have any effect.
I checked just now for OS updates and and a few (11 if I recall correctly) which I installed. They had no effect on the issue.
I have also just updated to the latest graphics driver (320.49) and quicktime (7.7.4), again no effect on the issue.
The RAID 1 setup is a data mirroring configuration - each drive is an exact mirror of the other. I have this  as I have had a few HDD's fail and having to get a new one, reinstall, etc. is just a nightmare - not worth it when the risk can be effectively eliminated for a bit extra $. I do not think this is the cause as I have had a few different configurations while using premiere elements (the SSD's are quite recent) and the issue stays the same.
    John:
Thanks for the links, although I wasn't able to find anything that helped with the issue.
I will have a look for what you mentioned re an older driver being potentially better, and will try it when if I find one that looks promising and I get some time. I am not overly hopeful though as I have used several different drivers, and I have not noticed any difference.
    Bill:
I completely agree - I always go to the source for drivers rather than relying on driver update programs etc.
    ATR:
Firstly I would just like to point out that the link was not my video - it is someone else's, who appears to be a somewhat similar issue. Apologies, I should have made that clear in the original post.
What is really bugging me is adjusting the 'zoom' on the timeline (little bar on the right of the screen you drag left & right). When I move it, it will take a few seconds for everything on the screen to refresh. Not a massive issue, but really annoying!
    In response to your points though;
I was not aware that the timeline scrollbar ghost trails are common to other versions. Is this a common issue or just some isolated instances of it? I have personally not noticed any bits of clips remaining on the timeline.
I must confess I am a bit of a novice with this program, so would you be able to expand on what playback quality & playback settings I should be looking at? (Note that the playback itself is not an issue for me). Also, how might I go about checking for pile ups of preview/conformed audio/conformed video? If it helps I have all the scratch files in a dedicated folder on the SSD.
I have just defragmented, but it had no noticeable effect.
I would rather not use a registry cleaner (had some bad experiences in the past and not convinced they make a difference), and my computer is relatively clean. I do a complete fresh reinstall every 6 months or so and I am not in the habit of downloading all sorts of crap.
