Yosemite cursor delay

I am owner of a rMBP mid 2014 13” and upgraded to OS X Yosemite last night, as Mavericks was prompting me to. I have since struggled with a problem:
My cursor lags if I keep it still for a second and move it afterwards. It takes about half a second to move after I either use my trackpad or the apple magic mouse. This only happens when the laptop is not connected to an energy outlet. Once I plug it and it’s charging it all works well. I already tried resetting the System Preferences, nothing happened.

Hi lavatin --
Have you tried resetting your PowerBook's PRAM: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238 or your PMU: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449
Let us know how it goes.

  • A11-ST3500 :: missing Win login dialog, jumping cursor, delayed file saves

Greetings.  Lifelong HP user.  Decided to try Toshiba for employee and myself.
Went online and configured Tecra A-11SP3500.  Have had nothing but problems.  Mainly after it goes to sleep mode, when I try to wake it, I get the background screen with no log in.  Must take the battery out in order to reboot.
As has happened twice as I have been typing this so far, the cursor jumps all over the screen.
Both issues are common with both laptops purchased.
Then there is the lag when I attempt to save anything.  "Save As" screen pops up, "Not Responding" pops to the top of the screen and 10-15 seconds later it will save.
I am running very little on the machine.  Office 2010 and little else.
I have contacted support thrice.  Had trouble locating model # as all that is on or in the unit is A-11 but all listings have a suffix afterward.  Finally got support on third call, to help locate the support page and a model number via the s/n.
Reloaded OS once after initial install.  Upgraded bios and drivers.  All to no avail.  Support seems to know or care very little about the product or problem.
Any suggestions are welcomed.  I am a very disappointed customer and wish I had stuck with HP.

    Hi Ross,
Have you tried calling back support (800-457-7777) after reloading the OS and updating the BIOS and drivers?  If not, I recommend giving that a shot, along with looking for assistance from this user community.
If the Toshiba tech you speak with can't resolve the issue then they should either escalate your call to a higher-skilled agent or refer you to a repair center, if they determine that there is a hardware failure.  Send me a Private Message with your name, phone number, and laptop's serial number if your call does not result in a suitable resolution.
I understand your disappointment but am renaming the Subject of this thread to something that describes the problems you're reporting, since that is much more likely to lead to finding help here in the forums.

  • "Move To" command doesn't work if you delay cursor on "Copy To" first

I file messages using the Move To menu. If, by mistake, my cursor delays on Copy To, it will Copy my mail. I can reproduce it.
    Wonder if this a bug
I do use, without problems, the Mail Plug in "MailRecent" which Moves or copies mail to recently accessed folders.
This plugin add a "Move to Recent" and Copy to Recent" item to the message menu.
    Any ideas welcome?

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • Window manual resizing issues

Since Yosemite cursor frequently fails to switch (to double arrow) when mouse hovering on window's edges. Resizing actually works with the standard cursor arrow but it's not natural and very annoying. So far I've noticed this with Preview and Chrome.
I'm using a Wacom tablet that produces a whole lot of problems, so it could be related. But this also happens with the Magic Mouse.
    Anyone else? Thanks

  • Full Screen Preferences

I am creating an "electronic" panel that will be viewed at a convention. I am going to set my document properties to open at "full screen". I also want to set the transitions and the seconds each panel will appear on the screen and the background color (all settings in the preferences "full screen" section). Is there any way that these settings can travel with the file. When I set them, they default back to the preferences of the computer they are viewed on. Since these will be viewed on many monitors, I want to set them once so each computer does not have to be configured for the files. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Yes with a document level JavaScript:
    app.fs.backgroundColor = color.ltGray;
app.fs.clickAdvances = false; // do not allow click to advance
    app.fs.cursor = cursor.delay; // hide cusor after delay
app.fs.escapeExits = false; // do not allow escape to exit full screen mode
app.fs.loop = true; // set to continuous loop at end of file
app.fs.defaultTransition = "WipeDown"; // set the default transition
    app.fs.timeDelay = 5;// delay 5 seconds
    app.fs.usePageTiming = true;// allow page override
    app.fs.useTimer = true;// activate automatic page turning
    app.fs.isFullScreen = true;// go into fullscreen

  • Trackpad: Please fix the drivers.

Dear whoever is responsible for Boot Camp drivers for Windows,
You must know that the trackpad drivers are nearly unusable in Windows, right? Since you go to so much trouble to support Boot Camp, won't you spend a couple days fixing the drivers?
My primary complaint, shared by tons of people, is really simple. Running under Lion or Mountain Lion, as well as in Windows, I always turn off the "tap to click" feature. Some people use it; I don't because I accidentally tap all the time when I'm working. So, it's great that you have the option to turn that off. So far, so good.
Now, if I want to click and drag, it's simple: I just click by holding down the trackpad, physically clicking it with my index finger, and then I drag with my middle finger. Again, great! Works beautifully.
HOWEVER, in Windows/Boot Camp this doesn't work reliably. The very same gesture doesn't function, because often it's interpreted as a right click.   If I very slowly and carefully move all my fingers away from the trackpad, click carefully, hold, and then start to gingerly drag, it works ok. But any normal-speed motion is misinterpreted as right-click.
I use right-click (by holding down 2 fingers) all the time -- it's an essential part of operating in Windows. So I'm used to making that work. It's strange that it activates by accident all the time during a drag operation.
Simple fix: just implement whatever algorithm you use in Lion. It works fine. Don't go into right-click mode when I'm trying to do a simple click-drag.
Let me know if you need help writing the drivers, but I'm sure you should be able to ask an intern to add the necessary line of code or two to fix it yourselves, if you can make it a priority.
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

NOTE on #1: this is based on a Windows 8.1 setting. By default, there is a delay so that you don't accidentally hit the touchpad while typing (I think this is the reason why). Go into PC Settings and you can change the sensitivity on this or just turn it off.
Are you talking about the options at the button of Mouse and Touchpad settings that has a drop-down for: No delay (always on), Short delay, Medium delay, Long delay and Turn off taps?
I tested all 5 out and didn't notice any difference in the cursor delay. I tested it by slowly moving my finger on the Touchpad until the cursor responds. The slower I move my finger the longer it takes to respond.

  • An email and  the apostrophe

In mail, when I reply to an email and I use the apostrophe it moves to the next line

    See related threads
Mail.app on Yosemite - Cursor moves on its own during typing
After some hours the bug was there again, finally found the real and proper fix: turning off smartquotes in Settings -> Keyboard -> Text and the removing the flag on the right side option.
Similarly see reply by Eric Root
Try Mail/Edit/Substitutions and turn off smart quotes.
When typing email messages any string followed by an apostrophe and two more letters followed by space bar causes a reversal of cursor to point between the last two letters.  How eliminate?

  • ID5.5&6 Resize delay in Yosemite has caused production to come to standstill

recently I brought into a production of about 25 mixed OS 10.6.8 and 10.9.4 Xeon Mac Pros and i7 iMacs two additional iMacs running Yosemite 10.10
When the graphic artists who need these systems work on shared InDesign pages the redraw (with multiple layers) is measured in an unresponsive system for at the very least 5 - 10 minutes as opposed to seconds on all the other systems not running Yosemite.
there are 8 iMacs in the area, all with i7 3.5GHz., GTX 775M 2GB Nvidia cards, 16 GB RAM (directly from Apple)
Six of them are running Mavricks where this slow behavior simply does not happen., the other two are on OS 10.10.1 where it does. All these computers were unboxed and Adobe CS 5.5 was installed along with the 2014 Java, there was no image involved.
I am able to reproduce this slowness on the 2.26GHz. Dual Xeon 8GB RAM, 512MB Nvidia, OS 10.10.1 system [see "i have tired the following]" using InDesign CS6
Upgraded to CC is not an option since I'm not budgeted to upgrade 25 macs on a $500.00 a month cost cycle for the foreseeable future, but I am seriously looking at going to Windows and keeping 5.5
    I have tired the following:
Verifying permissions on the Macintosh HD
Copying the document to a new document on the desktop
Re-saving the document as a new document to reset the meta-data
Shutting off all fonts that are not needed.
    under Display Performance
turing down the display settings in InDesign to "Typical"
    under Preference>Interface:
unticking all features under Cursor and Gesture options
    unticking all features under Panels
Setting Hand Tool Performance to minimum (Better Performance)
Live Screen Drawing is set to Delayed (or None; neither helps)
    Turned pre-flight off all documents.
all these features are currently running on the systems with Mavericks and they respond quickly even with all of them enabled.
Is there some way I can downgrade these systems to mavericks or has anyone seen this and found a fix?
These brand new systems are being outperformed by the 5 year old mac pros they are replacing.

    I have tired the following:
Verifying permissions on the Macintosh HD
Have you tried repairing permissions, clearing caches and logs with a utility like Cocktail? Also what happens if you run in a safe boot—start up with the shift key down? I've read about (and experienced) seemingly unrelated conflict problems with Adobe software. You could try disabling any browser plugins—I think there was a recent post about a Google Chrome plug-in crashing InDesign, and awhile back I ran into a problem with a Firefox plugin crashing FlashCC even when Firefox was not running.

  • Bluetooth Headphones Audio Delayed after Updating to Yosemite

Ever since I upgraded to OS X Yosemite my Bluetooth headphones have started having pretty drastic delays on my iMac.  When I first start up the computer it seems normal, but after a half an hour or so, I have more than a 2 second delay.
I googled it and found that lots of people have this problem, but I haven't found any fixes.  Is there anything I can do??

I Just got an update on my bug report from Apple yesterday. They think they've fixed the bug in the next release 10.10.8.2.
Hopefully this does the trick and it's just a matter of time Before we all get the update.
I Havent been able to confirm the fix, but it's something!

  • Extreme mouse cursor lag when using Accessibility Zoom (Fullscreen) in Yosemite

I have a Retina MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite (10.10), clean installed, connected to an external Thunderbolt Display. When I zoom in using Accessibility, I experience a very prominent lag, moving my mouse cursor (either with my Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad or the built-in Trackpad) around or when zooming out. It is especially visible when zoomed in on applications like Calendar and Mail. This never happened in Mavericks. My settings are as follows.
I've tried creating a new user account on my Mac and the problem still persists, which leads me to believe it's a bug with Yosemite.
Anyone else have the same problem?

I also have the same exact problem. I have a i5 iMac Mid 2011 with an upgrade to 10.10 Yosemite connected to an external display. I like you never had this issue with Mavericks. Zoom is so painfully slow now that I had to disable it. My iMac has 12 GB of RAM and even with no apps opened, zoom is killer slow.. makes me want to punch a wall-kinda slow.
I think it's clear to say that something is up with 10.10.. some bug.
    Apple please fix us zoomers

  • Change cursor type in Yosemite

Is there any way to change the type of cursor in Yosemite?  Not the arrow pointer for the mouse or trackpad, but i mean the cursor -- right now it's just the default vertical line, but could I change it to a block, like in the Terminal application?  I can't find anything in the accessibility window of preferences.

You can't. The recordset returned by a command object (which
    is what's used
    in the 8.02 update) is always a read-only, forward-only,
    server-side cursor.
If you need to change any of that, don't use the Execute
    method of the
command object. Construct a recordset with the options you
    want. Do NOT
set the active connection on the recordset; leave that out.
    Pass the
command object as the source of the recordset object, then
    use the
recordset's Open method. That's pretty convoluted, but it
    lets you retain
    the most DW-generated code.
Your other option is to use the recordset object only and
    plain text
parameters like DW 8.01 rather than a command object with
    parameter objects
    like DW 8.02.
That change was fundamental to the ASP server model and
    probably should not
have been part of any update, but saved for the next release.
    It at least
deserved more than a .0x update to the version number. At
    least call it
    8.1.

  • Lag/delay when switching between windows/applications in Yosemite

I have installed Yosemite onto a 27" iMac mid 2011 with 16Gb RAM.  Since the installation anytime I switch between windows in an application or between applications I get a delay or lag of between 5-10 sec before I can then utilise then next window.  I have 3 other iMacs of various ages that I have also installed Yosemite on and there has been no lag/delay issues.  One of the other iMacs is exactly the same specification as the one that is displaying the lag/delay.  It did not exist in 10.9.5.
Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Run some of the maintenance utilities such as Onyx, Cocktail or Main Menu.
Create a new user account and see if it is also happening there.
