Hey all,
I am a new mac user, i just picked up a pro yesterday and am loving it so far.
However, when I was using my top sites i was trying to organize it because I had the same site repeating, so I wanted to clear it up. I thought hitting disable customization would take me to the settings, instead it just wiped my top sites and made the background of top sites white instead of black, along with no longer storing any sites I visit.
How do I enable customization so my top sites starts saving things again, along with getting rid of the ugly white background, and having the black one again?

I had a smilier issue... If you're using external speakers (as opposed to the ones on the display), you may need to re-select them in System Preferences. Some preference choices seem to reset with the Yosemite install.

Helpbook for non mac applications are not getting displayed in Yosemite Help center.

SAFARI crashed after installing Yosemite-HELP!!

I have macbook air 11 inch bought 2 months ago. Everything was working well until I decided to upgrade to Yosemite- The download took forever so I went to sleep and opened the laptop today. Safari was not opening some websites (msn.com or yahoo.com) so I called apple support. After doing screen share-they said websites are opening and Yosemite 10.10.1 installation was not completed last night and it would be better if I did the upgrade. So Yosemite was installed.
After one hr-safari is worse than before. Websites either open with no picture and letters jumbled to one corner or website doesn't open at all

So I can't even go to apple support website and get help so they can see the screen and help me. After spending 80 minutes on the phone with apple customer service waiting for someone to help me-I was told its difficult to help unless screen share is done but that is not possible as I can't go to apple website!!!

I am so upset with this -I just want my mac back. I can't even find the button to delete yosemite!!
Note: I don't have wifi. My internet is through ethernet connected to the wall and mac directly.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

If you want help you need to do more than state an abstract problem - we need details - what can't it? what makes you thing it can't? what errors occur? what are the symptoms?
Your post is like "my car won't start" - with no details it could be anything from having lost the key to gas - you have to provie details

Permissions and memory problems with Yosemite HELP!

I have had nothing but problems since I upgraded to Yosemite. My graphics programs crash and run impossibly slow. I have to restart constantly to clear maxed out memory. My internet speed drags to a crawl, and I constantly have to repair permissions to open files THAT I CREATED. I can't open file attachments from Outlook either (I will NOT use Apple Mail - my clients use Outlook, so I have to as well).
I am getting really angry. This is costing me time and money.
Please tell me there is a fix and how to do it.

IMac Yosemite Help, install @ 50%

I was reluctant to install Yosemite on my 2008 iMac until now... The install is stuck at 50% on the grey screen with the apple logo. My iMac had been working great in the latest Mavericks, but wanted to upgrade it because my laptop has Yosemite and works fine with it. I have my work backed up on an external Drobo hardrive thank goodness.
This is the second installation, the first one went through, but apps would freeze. I talked with Apple Care last night , we verified disc and restarted the computer holding com.+R. They started me with a fresh download, that was at 10:00pm last night and it is now 5:30pm the next day!
If anyone can help please let me know, I have read many resources online and a lot of it sounds a bit scary! So I thought I would ask here....

I am so happy... I kept searching for answers here and found that this worked well... I have my iMac back with Yosemite!
Turned power off. Wait 10 sec. turn power back on holding Com +R. Turn Wifi off. Select restart from menu.
The computer rebooted and finished installation :-))

Iphoto disappeared when I updated to OS X Yosemite - help!

iphoto disappeared after I updated to Yosemite. When I spotlight search it, I'm alerted my version is incompatible with Yosemite, and need to update. When I go to update, I'm told this version isn't available yet in my country (USA). The app and all my non-backed up photos are gone... how do I recover this?

1. First make a back up:
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
2. Download the App:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Error message says my EOS Rebel T5 isn't compatible with Mac Yosemite--help!

I'm having trouble downloading photos from the camera to Image Browser OX. Says it's not compatible with Yosemite, yet the web site says it should have the correct drivers installed. What do I do?

Apple's photo apps will import images from the camera with no problem (RAW or JPEG - they support both).
If you want to use Canon's software, you'll need to make sure you're running the versions compatible with that OS.

You may be able to update the base install to the latest version. Canon's updaters require that a previous version of the software is installed. If not, you can download the full install (that's the item called the "EOS Digital Solution Disk Software")

I can't import photos from iphone4 to Aperture after Yosemite upgrade, aperture is up to date

Aperture stopped recognizing my IPhone4 when I try to import photos. This happened after I upgraded to Yosemite. My phone does show up in ITunes, and I have tried unlocking phone and shutting it off/on. My Aperture is up to date.

I went to Yosemite help page, and found an answer to another problem I was having after OS X upgrade. I was seeing duplicate iMacs under devices (I was checking to see if my phone showed up which it didn't). The fix for that problem took care of the problem I was having with the iPhone import into Aperture.
This leads me to believe the problem was due to the upgrade and some bugs that are still there. Now it's working fine.

First you need to get rid of all the malware on your computer starting with Genieo. Also, get rid of:

Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.

Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

OS X Yosemite iTunes bug

My mac computer is running OS X Yosemite, and the application folder is empty but i still have most apps on my dock - things like finder, iMovie, iPhoto, and others. But iTunes isn't there... When i try to install iTunes from the apple site it downloads and brings me to the window where you go through the install process, reading the license agreement and such. When i make it to the end, it makes a noise to indicate it is done and the text in the window says download completed, but iTunes doesn't appear in the applications folder or dock. when i click the iTunes file on the desktop - (it has a image of a disk or connected device and i can eject it if i want)- it opens the installation process tab again. Just upgraded to Yosemite. iphoto won't update.

I've downloaded both iphoto 9 and the updater, each one says it's installed then when I try to open it tells me I need the other. I don't get it?
any ideas?
also worried I might have overloaded my mac. it's a few years old: processer 2.8 GHz Intel core 2 duo with memory 4GB 667 Hz.
already it won't open some of my adobe creative cloud apps, which is exactly why I upgraded to Yosemite.

If your iPhoto version was iPhoto 7 (08) before you upgraded to Yosemite then you need to download and run/apply the upgrade application to your iPhoto Library before iPhoto 9.6 can open it. Had you run the upgrade app?

How to change my username on OS X Yosemite?

So i just updated to OS X Yosemite and cant work out ow to change my username, I'm talking about the one that shoes up in your login window ust to make it clear, thanks!

Well spotted - the Yosemite help file suggests it cannot be changed.
That was one place I hadn't tried an option/right click.
