Yosemite - HP Deskjet 1280

Help Please - I updated my mac to yosemite recently and then found that my HP Deskjet 1280 would not print.
It shows an error message of "Stopped - Filter failed. I have tried to find a new print driver compatible with OS X V10.10 and also used the Apple software update on the HP website.
Any help appreciated.

Hello @Seaside-Charlie , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you are experiencing update issues.  I would like to help.
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would then suggest re-adding the printer by running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • HP Deskjet 1280 Driver for windows 8.1 Pro

    Hi Team,
I have upgraded my compter operating system from windows 7 professional to windows 8.1 pro now, I unable to install  HP deskjet 1280 printer to new operating system.
Can you please send me a link to download the driver.
    Regards,
    Umesh

    Hi @Umesh_kanth ,
I understand that you need the driver for Windows 8.1. I would be happy to help you.
I checked the website and unfortunately there isn't any drivers to be able to download for Windows 8.1 for the HP Deskjet 1280 Printer. But you should be able to install the printer with a Windows generic driver. Plug the printer into the computer to see if Windows will automatically install a OS. driver.
You might have to add the driver manually, here are the steps:
Go to the start up screen. (tiles menu)
Type in "Devices and Printers", select settings, click on Devices and Printers.
Click on Add Printer and follow the steps.
Select the HP Deskjet PCL3 Class Driver from the list.
If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Driver for Hp deskjet 1280 for Windows 7 x64, SP1

I can't find any way to install the driver for my Hp deskjet 1280, printer, not on the site, not in the instalation wizard, anyhwere, I saw on other forums that there were some tips; like using the Hp Deskjet 1220(c) driver from the instalation wizard in Windows, which is compatible with the 1280 printer, but there is no Hp Deskjet 1220(c) driver, only other models of Deskjet, which I have tried and they don't work with this printer. I hope you can help me.
    Thank you

    HI Slim2,
I am sorry to say, there is no driver or full feature software for the Deskjet 540 for Windows 7. The only available driver is for Windows XP. You may consider getting a newer printer. I would suggest you call HP. HP might be able to offer you a discount on a newer model.

  • Deskjet 1280 driver for Windows 7 Home 32 bit

I have bought ,exclusively;  HP product for home and business for over thirty years and have now had four instances of (supposed) auto-destruct.
I have a Deskjet 1280 (with, now,  an expired warranty)  and can not obtain a driver to work it from my replacement computer.  The HP support site has proven unhelpful ( after half a day's concentrated effort! ).
Is it a matter of HP policy to deny its loyal customers access to their purchases after a predetermined period?
Am I mistaken or would I be wise to alter my allegience?

    Hi @davidse
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community, as your HP Printer is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.
Click here to view the Printing and Digital Imaging. When the page opens you will see the option to 'Log in' or 'Register Now' on the right. The commercial forums are separate from the consumer boards, thus you will need to register if you don't already have a commercial account.
You may find the HP Deskjet 1280 Printer support page helpful while you wait for somebody in the commercial Forum to respond to your inquiry.
    Best of luck.

  • I can not find a suitable driver for my hp deskjet 1280 for OS X 10.7 Lion (macbook) Please help.

I can not find a suitable driver for my hp deskjet 1280 for os x 10.7.  Since updating my software the printer will only use basic functions and prints only black and white, how do I enable the printers full capabilities? Thanks!

Hi,Officially the printer no longer supported on OS X 10.6 or above, therefore the reduced quality due the Generic driver usage:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&task Id=120&prodSeriesId=439162&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=439162&objectID=c018563 59
However, you may try the 3rd party HPIJS print drivers which list your printer as supported and will more likely provide you a better qualiity then a Generic driver.
Be sure to install any of the 3 required downloads and follow the steps to Set Up the printer:

  • HP Deskjet 1280, SAP printer drivers.

We are using an HP Deskjet 1280 for SAP printing. It works fine but cannot print lines on SAP reports containing lines or tables. If you know of any drivers that I should be using for this kind of printer is SAP, I will be very glad to know.
    Thank you in advance.

HP is not supporting this printer in Snow Leopard. You will need to use third party drivers to print. The Gutenprint drivers should already be installed on your system. If not, you can download a copy of the latest version at http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php. These drivers do not support duplex printing.
The other choice is the hpijs package found on the OpenPrinting.org page http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpijs.

  • Mac Osx and hp dj 1280

    Hi Friends
I have a hp dj 1280 printer attached to a 17" macbook pro. this worked fine till an upgrade to OSX Mavericks. seeing the forums I reset the printing system and connected the printer, it is recognised and shows up in the list in system preferences. However when I try to print the printer icon appears momentarily in the dock and then vanishes, no printing on the printer. the Driver it has selected is hp deskjet 1280 hpijs 3.10.6.15.  Please help. thanks.

Sounds like you are using what is known as an "ad hoc" connection, which isn't a real network connection - but a destabalized partial connection that is only temporary. What you should do is uninstall the printer, then re-install the device using the USB connection. After that, if you re-run the setup software there should be a new option for USB >> Wireless, which should put your printer back on your network.

There is the setup guide if you have any questions on that.

  • I have been unable to install hp dj1280 in windows 7 professional workgroup networked printer

Hi . I am using a hpdeskjet 1280 printer connected to a windows xp computer . I cannot get my new laptop running windows 7 professional to print via the network. I cannot find a driver. Hp says driver is included with windows 7 (it's not). I can locate the printer running windows add printer but after checking windows update i get message" No driver found. Windows can't find a driver for HP Deskjet 1280 on the network. To locate one manually, click OK. Otherwise, click Cancel and consult your network administrator or the printer manufacturer's website."
I have tried the HPHND utility from HP but this program does not list any of my networked printers.
    Please help.

The following based on 8 hours (and counting) of frustration, attempting to teach varying levels of HP technical support people about NetBIOS.
So far, I've found nearly a dozen posts from frustrated HP OfficeJet users, using the search words NETBIOS or WORKGROUP.
We just bought an OfficeJet 8600 Premium All-In-One.
The provided installation software doesn't reach a point where the driver (icon) is installed on any of our Windows 7 PCs' Control Panel / Printers and Devices.
After several installs, reboots, uninstalls, disabling PC and router-based firewalling, loading Windows 'dry' (without any startup drivers), we have isolated the issue to HP's lack of providing a means to manually configure a NetBIOS Group.
This appears to be the reason the installation software for the OfficeJet 8600 is unable to 'find' the printer on a peer-to-peer network, yet alone install the required drivers on any PC, if:
     - there isn't a DHCP server;
     - if assignment of IP addresses for network devices is performed manualy, or
     - if your peer-to-peer network's NetBIOS Group / Workgroup name is anything other than "MSHOME"
This last item appears to be a hard-wired configuration on every HP OfficeJet.
Apparently this has caused HP some consternation, given the appearance of HP's "Update IP Address" tool.
Even though an OfficeJet printer can be assigned a static IP address and successfully 'pinged' ... even though command line utilities (below) clearly show the printer existing on the network ... the printer cannot be "located" by HP's software installation routine or its provided Update IP Address tool, as HP's hard-wired NetBIOS Group / Workgroup name does not match the Workgroup name our firm uses.
Having a manufacturer decree that users must change the configuration of every device on their network to accommodate use of its product is unacceptable.
This is a relatively easy fix, HP.

  • HP Printer from shared XP Machine

    Hi,
I've got a HP deskjet 1280 printer which is hooked up to a windows XP machine. I want to access the printer through the network.
The printer is shared & I can see it on my Mac in the Windows Printing Dialogue. However, when I go to select the driver I cannot find the right driver in the drop down list. I've also installed the printer locally on my mac with the usb cable, & it hooks up straight away with the correct driver, no problems.
The closest driver I've got to on the Windows Networking is the 1220, which prints, but not at a fantastic quality. Any thoughts as to how I can get printing with the correct driver through my windows share?
    Thanks
    T

You will probably need to use the hpijs drivers found at _http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs_. Most printer drivers from HP do not support network printing.
