Yosemite/iTunes 12.1.26: no way to import movies

Hi to everybody. I know this matter has been discussed already in other posts but I've tried all the way to import h265/m4v movies into iTunes 12 with Yosemite 10.10.0 and nothing happens. I underline that:
- "add to library" doesn't work either selecting the songs or movies libraries
- drag&drop doesn't work in either libraries
I then said: the problem is that the movie is encoded in H.265. Partially true because the same problem is with H.264 but I am able to import a 3-400Mbyte (part of) h265/m4v movie but not the 2,77Gbyte entire movie. Is the size a problem. It shouldn't but if it is then is as bug.
Does anybody have suggestions? (the purpose is to move them then to Ipad and iPhone)
Thanks
Simon
By the way: the encoder is Handbrake Nightly build but i believe the problem is not here (on the iPad 3 Mini I had to instal the h265 App otherwise I couldn't view the short movie. Strange, shouldn't h265 be there by default in iOS 8.1?).

Here is the answer: evidently iTunes doesn't recognize the encoder and doesn't import h265s.

Is there a way to import movies that I already own to iTunes?

Sorry, but if you're referring to a commercial DVD, those are copy-protected. Breaking the copy protection is illegal in the US, so discussing ways of doing it are not allowed here (since the US courts have been holding in some cases that even discussing in print such cracking may be illegal).

There used to be a small avatar of the movie artwork to the left of the title, anyone see how to do this again?
    Thanks in advance!

No, there is no way to quickly preview artwork of selected songs.      You have to commit with "Get Info".      I agree, the lack of a preview window makes managing the library far more tedious.      You can't trust the artwork in "Album" view because iTunes seems to pull that from the cloud, artwork you see may not embedded in the song.
This was the main reason I switched back to iTunes 10.7.     The other reason was the inability to open multiple windows.    I was trying to create a playlist of the songs on my daughters's iPod touch, and ended up having to create a screenshot of the iPod.   Convoluted workarounds for tasks that used to be done in one click is called "progress".

  • Anyone know of a way to import .mov file extension files into imovie '09?

    Great forum. Thanks.
I can't seem to import a movie file with a ".mov" suffixe.
Most of the older finished work i have is in that format. I have since begun exporting files with the ".m4v" file extension and they are able to be imported.
Anyone know of any program available which will convert these ".mov" files to something that is more compatible with importing into imovie '09, or perhaps I am completely so asleep at the wheel I missing something staring me in the face?
Any help either way would be appreciated.

How about any free conversion programs that would allow me to convert files from .mov to a format that is more compatible with importing into imovie? If not I guess QTP will be the way to go.
No, the clips were shot using a SONY HD Handycam. The compression occured during the exporting of the finished clip. Instead of using "export movie" under Share in imovie, I used the "Export using Quicktime" option in order to keep the file size down. It did not give me any indication that choosing that option would prevent me from re-importing the finished piece back into imovie for an edit. It seems odd to offer an export option that is not compatible with importing into the the very program being used to export the file.
I simply want to be able to either re-import these ".mov" files back into imovie '09, or convert them to a file format that will allow me to at least open them in imovie '09. Any help to that end is greatly apprecited.
    Thanks

If Other (the yellow bar) is too big something is corrupted.  The only solution (that I know of) is to restore from your most recent backup using iTunes (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).

  • I'm trying to find an easier way to import my music to iTunes. Even the most basic music player can scan your computer and import found music into your library. I don't want to move my MP3s into the iTunes folder, I don't want iTunes doing any conversion.

I'm trying to find an easy way to import my MP3 collection into iTunes without moving, copying or changing it.
I can't believe that iTunes doesn't have this feature, as even the most basic music players always have this.
I only use iTunes to sync my iPod, as I like Media Monkey to play my MP3s.
I have 137GB of MP3s, mainly from my ripping my CDs, LPs and downloading from Amazon. I've only purchased a handful of songs from iTunes,
Any ideas on how to do this easily?

It does have that feature. Why would you assume that it doesn't?

    Okay, no problem.
If the top bar menu is not displayed in top left of your iTunes Library, use the CTRL+B keys to turn it on:
On that menu, use File/Add Folder to Library and navigate to the folder you wish to add:
If you wish to add just one song, notice the File/Add File to Library command on that menu as well.
Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop from the file's location into your iTunes Library.
That's all there is to it.
By the way, it is possible to have Amazon MP3s downloaded to your computer and then automatically added to the iTunes Library by the Amazon downloader. I do it all the time.

  • What is the proper way to manage movies in iTunes?

I've just been given a new video iPod, and am now considering importing movies into iTunes so that I can have them on my iPod. What I have is a bunch of MPGs (e.g., family movies from a camcorder, etc.); but I noticed that the iPod won't play them, presumably because they're not MP4 format. I know I can convert them all to MP4 with iSquint or a similar utility. But I want to keep the full-resolution versions in iTunes so that I can display them on a bigger screen as well. So, what is the right way to manage this - do I really need to keep and have in iTunes 2 versions of every movie - one scaled down for iPod as MP4, and one in original resolution? Or is there a better way?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

I think two versions is probably the only way. At least the MP4 versions will be small so shouldn't use up much of your hard drive space.
By the way, with the MP4 versions that go on your iPod, try hooking your iPod up to your TV set and setting the TV Out option to ON and with the proper AV cable, you should still be able to see them on the big screen. Try it out and see how it looks.
Since you have a camcorder, you might already have an AV cable you can use. See here...

Is there a way I can move movies from one itunes library to another on the same computer?

Locate them in the Windows Explorer, move or copy those files as you would any other, and drag them into the open iTunes window when the second library is loaded. If you're using two iTunes libraries on one user account, you only need to locate the files; otherwise, they need to be put in a shared area.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
iTunes is straight forward, just use the same ID on all of them.
What exactly do you want to see in messages on the Mac and iPad, messages combined from each of your phones or a different account just for both of you.
You should think about what you want in calendars, contacts etc, on your shared devices.

  • Is there any way to import from ipod back to itunes??

I have a problem... my hardrive over heated last week, and I lost EVERYTHING. I have to start completely over, and just redownloaded itunes to my fixed computer. luckily, I had a good amount of my music saved on my ipod. however, is there any way to import the other way around, and move music from my ipod back onto my computers and itunes??? i cant stand having an empty library!
    -briana

Bit of a pain but possible:
    1) My documents, tools, folder options, show hidden files
    2) open itunes
    3) edit, preferences
The most important bit coming up:
    4) LEAVE PREFERENCES OPEN THROUGHOUT WHOLE PROCESS, OTHERWISE IPOD WILL BE WIPED.
    5) plug in ipod
    6) open my computer
    7) ipod should be in devices with removable storage
    8) into ipod
    9) into ipod control
    10) into music
    11) select all
    12) copy
    13) into my documents
    14) into my music
    15) into itunes (folder)
    16) into itunes music (folder)
    17) paste
    when the paste has finished:
    18) use remove ipod icon on toolbar to get ipod disconnected safely
    19) into itunes program
    20) close preferences
    21) file, add folder to library
    22) find your way back to itunes music folder
and there it all is. Go back to hiding hidden folders in tools, folder options when done, or they can get in the way (or deleted by mistake!)
no idea how to do any of this on a mac, i'm a PC user!
    take it easy,
