Yosemite killed FCPX 10.1.3

Since upgrading my iMac (24-inch, Early 2009, 4GB) to Yosemite (final release), Final Cut Pro (10.1.3) no longer works. I get the following error: "This graphics configuration does not support hardware acceleration, which is required to run Final Cut Pro." I have tried deleting my copy of FCP and redownloading from the Apple App Store, but still nothing.
It has been working fine under Mavericks. I know it's my fault for not researching Yosemite compatibility with this iMac, but I need a fix. I either need FCP to work under Yosemite, or I need to know how to downgrade back to Mavericks. Thanks in advance for your help.
iMac (24-inch, Early 2009)
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB

I have a similar Mac (still on Mavericks), and even though I have only occasionally used with FCP X (as I use mostly my 2010 MBP and now my rMBP), yours is a cautionary tale for me.
It may well be that the GPU is borderline for this kind of work and that with Yosemite it does not work anymore.
No idea on how to make it work with Yosemite.
Note: of course most macs that worked well with FCP X in Mavericks continue to do so in Yosemite. The following may apply, however, if an old-ish mac used to work with FCP X in Mavericks, but now does not in Yosemite.
Going back to Mavericks should be possible, but is not trivial.
0) Open the Mac App Store and find OS X Mavericks in your Purchases. You should be able to download it.
I don't think you can just reinstall Mavericks over Yosemite, though. You may have to reformat the drive, which also means that you probably should:
1) Clone the drive to an external (since you are going to need to reformat it)
2) From the a Mavericks installer create an installation disk on a pen drive or similar (instructions for this abound on the web - search for "Mavericks createinstallmedia")
3) Start up holding the option key, select the aforementioned pen drive, erase the iMac drive, install
4) Copy your stuff back - at this point it is not clear but I expect that Migration assistant should work to import your stuff correctly.

  • Yosemite killed Magic Mouse

Yosemite killed my Magic Mouse. It disconnects all of the time. Sometimes never reconnecting. Sometimes taking 15-20. Its so frustrating. Switching the mouse on/off from the mouse itself or via toggling Bluetooth on/off my MBP doesn't do anything. Manually trying to connect does nothing either. I participating in the Yosemite beta program from start to finish and submitted feedback on the issue numerous times.
Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix?
    Thanks
    ~ G

You've probably fixed this by now, but I encountered it on a Macbook Pro after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1 from Mavericks, where the Magic Mouse worked fine. After booting into Yosemite after the upgrade, the Magic Mouse wouldn't resync and the Bluetooth preferences didn't show the mouse. I changed the mouse batteries, turned it off and on several times, turned the Macbook Pro's Bluetooth off and on, and removed the unconnected Magic Mouse listing from the Macbook Pro's Bluetooth Preferences.
I'm not positive what fixed it, but while struggling with this issue it occurred to me an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard and an iPhone with Bluetooth enabled were just a foot or two away from the MBP. I moved the iPad with its Bluetooth keyboard and iPhone w/Btooth enabled to the next room and suddenly the Magic Mouse connected to the MBP. I then noticed the iPad or iPad Btooth keyboard showed up as available in the MBP's Bluetooth preferences, so I removed that, too.
I'm not sure if this was a coincidence, but the idea it might help struck me based on the following reasoning, which might be faulty:
    - maybe Bluetooth in the Macbook Pro, the iPad and the iPhone were all detecting the Magic Mouse and the iPad and/or iPhone were "winning" or hogging, perhaps because they were on next to the Magic Mouse during the Macbook Pro's long hiatus during the Yosemite installation.
    - maybe by the time the Macbook Pro finally booted to Yosemite, the iPhone and/or iPad had hogged the Magic Mouse Bluetooth identity so the MBP saw the Magic Mouse as unavailable even though the MM and iPad/iPhone were just friends, not a pair.
I had another iPhone next to the MBP but its Bluetooth was off.
I didn't have time to verify this after the Magic Mouse started working because I was charging a client an hourly rate, otherwise, I would have nailed it down. Still, the agony in the forums over this issue lead me to post this possibility in case it turns out to be true.

  • Not Happy, Yosemite killing my new iMac

I have a three month old 21" iMac with 1Gb and 8Gb DDR memory.
I updated to Yosemite several days ago and it's dreadful. Everything I do I get a spinning beachball
I've given it a few days to settle down but doing anything on it is frustrating.  I've bought this for my business (with Parallels & 8.1) and it's sucking the life out of me.
I'm not too technical but I've found the activity monitor and it shows that pretty much all of the RAM is being used.
Surely 8Gb of ram is not enough these days?  After spending £1,100 on a computer there's no way I'm buying more RAM....
Can anyone suggest what is killing my machine?
    Thank you in advance

thanks, i've ran the eltrecheck and here are the results

  • Usual problem - Yosemite killed my macbook. Please help

Upgraded to Yosemite on 2008 macbook pro which had worked perfectly until then. Now it's unusable. Any command prompts the wheel of death and endless waiting.  Here's an EtreCheck download but I can't see anything really wrong. All your suggestions gratefully appreciated, thanks.

  • Yosemite killed my MBP... HELP!!

Successfully installed Yosemite (UG from Mavericks) and it worked fine for about an hour. Then the beachball appeared and my MBP has been rendered totally non-responsive... Hard booted several times with no luck. Tried safe boot but it just hangs forever... ***?!? Can't get control to run any sort of diagnostic, looks like my MBP has been screwed and I'm just hoping I can recover a huge chunk of photo work that has not yet been backed up. Between IOS8.02 woes on my iPad and iPhone and now this disaster on my MBP I'm about to literally toss ALL my apple products and go with a new WIN 10 computer and android!!
Outside that RANT, anyone have any suggestions to help me get back control of my MBP long enough to recover my data?

This seems to be a real problem! My MacBook Pro also has been affected by this problem! Last night in the middle of browsing the web it suddenly shut down!
What I did next was try to reboot it by pressing the power button but it did not work.I see that my Mac started to boot up, the progress bar went the wrong one fourth and then the Mac side of the shutdown again and started to reboot. Next line it started to reboot for about five secondsand then it shut down and started to reboot again. This process continued indefinitely. Next line I try to do a SafeBoot by pressing command *** and I got into standalone UNIX mode where I try to check the disk and when I type the command some of the macro to reboot again. It is impossible to do something such as try to run disk utility all good for my DVD because the matter what I do Mac would just start restarting itself after somewhere between five seconds on 30 seconds. This is very frustrating because I'm in Phuket and there's nowhere I can fix the BC! It is clear that the problem lies with in Yosemite because the problems I'm just driving right now are also exhibited by other users as well. What is rulings thing is that Mac tries to reboot itself aborts and boots again even when the lid of the laptop is closed. No anything that seems to prevent Mac from rebooting or even going through the same cycle again and again is removing the ballcourt when you do that Mac stops rebooting and just lies there charging. After it is fully charged I tried to press the power button but all I hear is with a click inside and nothing happens. I have a video of the whole thing but there's no way to upload it to this website.! What is funny is thatSpace Apple selling iPhones eight support site does not support access from my aunt from an iPhone. I'm dictating right now and I see that the text sometimes appear sometimes it doesn't and sometimes if you start typing it does not even work. I was it's not the shoe and so there's a problem with you Cimity anything is to be fixed and we need to be told how to do this

  • Did Yosemite changed FCPx color correction in inspector?

prior to installing Yosemite I had the color correction functions as part of the clip  inspector in the video tab.   Now I notice after installing Yosemite that the color correction functions including color, saturation, and exposure are an effect that you must apply before manipulating those effects.   Is that possible that I can not put the color correction board back into my default functionality in the video tab of inspector?

thanks tom, i think it was easier the other way, but ok there is no way to customize the inspector with frequently used effects, maybe that would be my next question.

  • OS Yosemite and FCPX 10.1.4 compatible?

    Hi,
I'm currently using OS 10.9.5 and FCPX is working just fine. Is it safe to update? I also use Motion 5.1.2 and Pro Tools 11.3.1 are these fine too?
    Dave:)

    here, both, FCPX + M5 =: flawless
Was prepared for a 'clean-install', didn't need, just hit 'update', wait half an hour - done.
Perhaps just guts, but feels faster, snappier, better
    No ProTools at hand ...........

  • Yosemite killed my Snapz Pro X 2.5.4

I have  been a long time frequent user of Snapz Pro Screen Capture utility but since updating to Yosemite I am no longer able to capture mac audio. Does anyone have any good alternative apps to use that work on Yosemite or any solutions to get Snapz working?

Yeah, well I spent a bundle on Ambrosia's SnapZPro not all that long ago, and I'm not thrilled about spending another $79 on something similar. Furthermore, iShowU is only full-screen capture, with no option to grab just part of the screen (which is what I need).
QuickTime Player can do screen (or part of screen) capture, but it can't record Mac audio -- which seems like the easiest part of the problem to me.
I'll keep looking for something else, while actually hoping that Ambrosia can make one last surge at updating this application for Yosemite.

  • Yosemite kill french keyboard and switch to english

    Hi,
    I am on Yosemite system.
The keyboard is switched to english each time I switch off and on my imac ( 2011). I generally see it when trying to surf and I can't enter some of my passwords because of the qwerty keyboard.
So basically when I go to the preferences and then to keyboard options,  french keyboard disappeared and I have to manually add it again each time I am opening my imac.
As I am french it's highly annoying to have to change each time this way.
It was working perfectly before updating to yosemite.
Any idea to fix this ?
All the best for this new year starting :-).

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • Yosemite kills my Internet

I upgraded to Yosemite last night on my Macbook Air (2013-mid). Today I tried to go online and it said not connected to internet. The wifi icon on top right shows Connected (to my home wifi which worked fine before upgrade), however, it is not connecting at all. I google it and noticed some ppl got the same issue. But most of them could connect just unstable. Mine is not connected at all even it shows connected..... Anyone may have any solution or nothing i can do but waiting for the apple updates to fix the bug? Please help.......

    Hello ipingilie,
For issues with getting online, then check out the first article below to use the Wireless Diagnostics to help isolate the issue. I would also recommend creating a new network location as that has helped me in the past with internet issues.

  • Yosemite killed my Pro Tools Dongle!

So I updated my iMac to Yosemite and now Pro Tools will not recognize my dongle. What gives, guys? Pro Tools is an integral part of my business. It HAS to run. How do we resolve this problem?

    Dear anonymous,
at the risk of sounding rude, it is elementary to check version compatibility before upgrading any OS major version.
And the next step to sanity is to see if there are compatible updates, like Pro Tools 11.3.
If that does not help, the best place is the pro tools forum and support.

  • Yosemite killed my wifi

Upgraded to Yosemite this evening on my mid 2011 Mac mini and now I don't have wifi. The wifi menubar icon has an "x" on it and when I click on it, it says, "Wi-Fi: not configured." The only option is to Open Network Preferences.
When I open Network Prefs, there's no wifi option on the left, only ethernet, Thunderbolt, firewire and bluetooth. I try to add a wifi network via the "+" sign, but nothing gets added. My wifi network is working fine as my wife and kids' computers (on Mavericks) as well as all of our iOS devices connect to it fine as usual.
Luckily, my Mac mini is normally connected to the internet via ethernet cable, but I need to figure this wifi issue out.
When I go through whatever diagnostics, it sees my wifi network and allows me to enter my password, but then it won't connect. But, it only shows my wifi network via these diagnostics - not from the wifi dropdown on the menubar and not in Network Prefs.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

  • Yosemite killed my ethernet

iMac early 2010. Never had a problem with ethernet. Upgraded to Yosemite and the ethernet option is not even showing under my network Preferences. Reset the SMS and the PRAM. Nothing seems to work. What is this Apple? Any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance

First you are not addressing Apple on these forums, Apple does not read or participate in them. We are all end users just like yourself. Yosemite did nothing to affect your ethernet connection. Besides the SMC (not SMS) reset and PRAM reset have you done anything else?
By  your post it sounds like you just installed Yosemite today, is that correct. If not, when did you install Yosemite?
In order to get a little more information about your system please post an EtreCheck report of your system and we can look for obvious issues.

  • Yosemite killed my printer!

I've been using my Canon LBP3000 for years with no problems at all. This morning I upgraded to Yosemite and my printer stopped working! Please help, as I depend on it! Thanks!

Please make sure your printer supports Mac OS X Yosemite (v10.10) and that you have the latest driver installed for your printer. You can go to Canon's support website to check if there is any update available for your printer. Please note that, as Yosemite is a rather new OS version, many manufacturers may not have support for their existing hardware or software yet.
    I hope this helps.

  • Yosemite killed my iPhoto

I updated my three-year-old iMac to Yosemite, and downloaded the newest iPhoto. It said it had to upgrade the files, which I let it do. Now, when I open iPhoto, no pictures load. I've tried opening it with option clicked and choosing the proper database (which is still there), but nothing happens. Ideas?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
