Yosemite killed my Snapz Pro X 2.5.4

I have  been a long time frequent user of Snapz Pro Screen Capture utility but since updating to Yosemite I am no longer able to capture mac audio. Does anyone have any good alternative apps to use that work on Yosemite or any solutions to get Snapz working?

Yeah, well I spent a bundle on Ambrosia's SnapZPro not all that long ago, and I'm not thrilled about spending another $79 on something similar. Furthermore, iShowU is only full-screen capture, with no option to grab just part of the screen (which is what I need).
QuickTime Player can do screen (or part of screen) capture, but it can't record Mac audio -- which seems like the easiest part of the problem to me.
I'll keep looking for something else, while actually hoping that Ambrosia can make one last surge at updating this application for Yosemite.

  • Update to Yosemite killed my MacBook Pro HELP!!!

I updated my MacBook Pro to Yosemite and it has dragged it down incredibly. Every time I click, open, close, type, delete, scroll and move it takes about 15 seconds to process. May not sound to long but it adds up and when it happens for everything I am doing its impossible to get anything done, feels like I have dial up again. I am rather computer illiterate so I have no idea what to do, and am afraid of accidentally destroying my Mac. Only thing I have managed to do was run a diagnostic with Etrecheck. Please HELP!!
    Problem description:
i updated to Yosemite and my Mac has slowed down significantly, almost unusable, every action takes what feels like 20 seconds to respond

  • Snapz Pro on Yosemite

It was suggested I ask the question here as Snapz Pro uses QuickTime technology. Basically I wondering if anyone is using Snapz Pro and has used it successfully for making screen shots in Yosemite. It always seems to fail for me, not saving a file. If Snapz Pro isn't working, is there any alternative, any software that will make a screen shot and include the active cursor?
    Thanks very much.

Regarding audio support not working in 10.10.x, I'm posting here instead of at http://www.ambrosiasw.com/news/story/Ambrosia-Software-Releases-Snapz-Pro-X-254 or http://www.ambrosiasw.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=133336, because Ambrosia's registration is broken (invalid email).
The problem is that Ambrosia hasn't got around to signing their kext yet, which is now required in 10.10.x.
    To work around this, add kext-dev-mode=1 as a kernel flag and restart;
    [mac09:~] me% sudo vi /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
    [mac09:~] me% cat /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

  • Crashing with Skitch, Snapz Pro, Fast User Switching - graphics card issue?

Noticed this issue when I switched back to a G5 from a Mac Pro.
Clean install of the OS and apps but Skitch locked the machine when accessing prefs etc. in the app. Then discovered Snapz Pro locked the machine when attempting to screen grab. Now, after creating a new user account and activating Fast User Switching the machine locks when switching to the new user.
Could this be an Open GL or Quartz Extreme issue? Ran Xbench and everything went fine. Normal day to day use of the machine is sound.
System Profiler tells me this about the graphics card:
    *ATI Radeon X800 XT:*
    Chipset Model: ATY,R420
    Type: Display
    Bus: AGP
    Slot: SLOT-1
    VRAM (Total): 256 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x4a48
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-A35801-109
I just flashed the ROM to 109 (from 108) today, but still have the issue.
    Thoughts?

    Malcom,
If I turn it off, then I lose the ability to jump between users without having to kill everything I'm doing. Yes, that does solve the problem, but only because it removes the cause of the problem. I'm trying to find a solution to the issue.

  • Yosemite killed Magic Mouse

Yosemite killed my Magic Mouse. It disconnects all of the time. Sometimes never reconnecting. Sometimes taking 15-20. Its so frustrating. Switching the mouse on/off from the mouse itself or via toggling Bluetooth on/off my MBP doesn't do anything. Manually trying to connect does nothing either. I participating in the Yosemite beta program from start to finish and submitted feedback on the issue numerous times.
Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix?
    Thanks
    ~ G

You've probably fixed this by now, but I encountered it on a Macbook Pro after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1 from Mavericks, where the Magic Mouse worked fine. After booting into Yosemite after the upgrade, the Magic Mouse wouldn't resync and the Bluetooth preferences didn't show the mouse. I changed the mouse batteries, turned it off and on several times, turned the Macbook Pro's Bluetooth off and on, and removed the unconnected Magic Mouse listing from the Macbook Pro's Bluetooth Preferences.
I'm not positive what fixed it, but while struggling with this issue it occurred to me an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard and an iPhone with Bluetooth enabled were just a foot or two away from the MBP. I moved the iPad with its Bluetooth keyboard and iPhone w/Btooth enabled to the next room and suddenly the Magic Mouse connected to the MBP. I then noticed the iPad or iPad Btooth keyboard showed up as available in the MBP's Bluetooth preferences, so I removed that, too.
I'm not sure if this was a coincidence, but the idea it might help struck me based on the following reasoning, which might be faulty:
    - maybe Bluetooth in the Macbook Pro, the iPad and the iPhone were all detecting the Magic Mouse and the iPad and/or iPhone were "winning" or hogging, perhaps because they were on next to the Magic Mouse during the Macbook Pro's long hiatus during the Yosemite installation.
    - maybe by the time the Macbook Pro finally booted to Yosemite, the iPhone and/or iPad had hogged the Magic Mouse Bluetooth identity so the MBP saw the Magic Mouse as unavailable even though the MM and iPad/iPhone were just friends, not a pair.
I had another iPhone next to the MBP but its Bluetooth was off.
I didn't have time to verify this after the Magic Mouse started working because I was charging a client an hourly rate, otherwise, I would have nailed it down. Still, the agony in the forums over this issue lead me to post this possibility in case it turns out to be true.

    Try this:
clone your system and repair it with Disk Warrior instead
Or try a clean test system install on another drive
A must: SmcFanControl 2.2 - a mere 400 rpm extra to keep air cooling up
Try to run w/o externals. MyBook included.
Is that a 7200.11 1TB? they had a lot of issues.
Run AHT off your OEM DVD.
2008 had to have EFI and SMC updates to deal with freezes on wake from sleep, and like all models, high inrush current.  Hopefully you have a UPS and is 1500VA unit.
When you do hard restart from power button, you almost certainly add more directory errors and to files requiring immediate attention to repair and rebuild the directory; and to scan and repair and delete cache and temp files and folders. A must. Invest in bootable backups SuperDuper along with Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 6, maybe Drive Genius 3 but I'd rate that #3).
TimeMachine has its own bad habits, especially with Green drives and some externals.
Try to rule out everything and then add back one at a time.
And it may just be time to replace the 8800, very common, a couple threads this week, and it is 3 yrs old.  Might want ATI 5870 or 5770.

  • Usual problem - Yosemite killed my macbook. Please help

Upgraded to Yosemite on 2008 macbook pro which had worked perfectly until then. Now it's unusable. Any command prompts the wheel of death and endless waiting.  Here's an EtreCheck download but I can't see anything really wrong. All your suggestions gratefully appreciated, thanks.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • I killed a MacBook Pro. Shutdown with flash in drive and now it won't start at all.

I may have killed my MacBook Pro OS X by accidentally restarting  with  a Flash Drive it it and now it won't start at all.  Any ideas?

So it is powering on. You did not state that before. In that case:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Also see this if above doesn't work:
    Install OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should install the original version of OS X that came on the machine.

  • I just installed yosemite on my mcb pro mid 2012 and installed win8.1 with bootcamp. now i have the problem, when i'm using windows i don't see my mac partition in the "computer" window. there is only the "bootcamp (c;) partition? what's the problem?

i just installed yosemite on my mcb pro mid 2012 with a clean install. so i only had the new os x yosemite running on my mac. everything went perfect. than i installed win8.1 with the bootcamp assistant and also everything went perfect.
    But here's the Problem:
When i'm using Windows 8.1 and i go to the "Computer" window where i can find my hdd partition "Bootcamp (c;) there is only this Partition. the mac Partition is missing.
so i am not able to read the files on my mac Partition.
Before i installed yosemite and win8.1, i was running mavericks and win7 on my macbook pro and i haven't had this Problem. i was able to see and read my mac Partition also on Windows 8.1???
is there any solution for this Problem???
    greez c

"Before i installed yosemite and win8.1, i was running mavericks and win7 on my macbook pro and i haven't had this Problem. i was able to see and read my mac Partition also on Windows 8.1???"
Sorry there's a mistake in the sentence!
    i mean:
"Before i installed yosemite and win8.1, i was running mavericks and win7 on my macbook pro and i haven't had this Problem. i was able to see and read my mac Partition also on Windows 7???"

  • Snapz Pro X and Final Cut Pro

I'm screen capturing QuickTime movies of usage of a website via a web browser to include in a video production. I'm using Ambrosia's Snapz Pro X to do the video capture. I've sized the browser to 720x480 for the capture. I'm exporting the capture using the animation codec (which looks much better than a DV stream), but it comes in at 8 frames per second, which doesn't mesh with my timeline (at 29.97 fps).
Is Snapz Pro X a good solution to do this, or is there a better program to do this? If Snapz Pro X is a good choice for this, what settings should I change in the program to get the best video for use in Final Cut?

AFAIK Snapz records the screen activity into RAM as OS-level screen calls and then renders the file to your drive with whatever CODEC you choose when you save the clip. So the choice of CODEC won't affect the frame rate, but the size of the capture frame will.
The Animation CODEC is the best choice as it retains the full fidelity of the screen grab (no loss of quality). The main thing to remember when configuring the Animation CODEC is to set the keyframe rate to 1 (every frame is a keyframe). Final Cut does a bad job of handling key frames in the Animation CODEC when making cuts edits between keys - you'll get weird artifacts.
This makes for big files and Final Cut will want to conform the clips to 29.97 (or whatever timebase your using) so it will need to render the clips before you can edit them. Make sure your timeline is set to the same frame size, CODEC and KEY FRAME rate as the clips coming in.
Once you've done your cuts and are happy with your edit, output directly to whatever delivery CODEC your going to use: MPEG2 if DVD, Flash, H-264 etc for web. Avoid rendering to DV as the DV CODEC slaughters text and hard edged objects.
    My two cents worth.

  • Need help creating movies in Snapz Pro and then editing them in FCE

I'm in the process of creating a series of training videos on a software application that will ultimatley be on a DVD accompanying a book. I'm trying to use SnapZ Pro to capture the video (with audio) and then edit the sound in FCE. I have no clue what settings to use in Snap Z Pro for the best quality and that will be compatible with FCE. I tried a few samples and used the Animation codec (and various audio compressions). The audio tract was fine in FCE when I listened to it alone, but jumpy with lost segments when combined with the video. I'd appreciate some ideas of what settings to use at every step of the process for best results.
When I tried saving a segment using the Apple Intermediate codec in Snapz Pro, FCE repeatedly crashed when importing the file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

FCE is a fixed resolution video editing application. It will only work in DV or HDV. 10fps is not a frame rate used by either of those. The material needs to be in a standard frame resolution and frame rate. The standard for DV is 720x480 at 29.97fps. If you capture at 10fps you're going to have to save the material using the DV NSTC codec, set the frame size to 720x480 and the frame rate to 29.97. You may have pixel aspect ratio issues requiring capture at 720x540, but I don't know enough about SnapzPro to know how that product handles frame resolution and frame rate conversion.
