Yosemite kills my Internet

I upgraded to Yosemite last night on my Macbook Air (2013-mid). Today I tried to go online and it said not connected to internet. The wifi icon on top right shows Connected (to my home wifi which worked fine before upgrade), however, it is not connecting at all. I google it and noticed some ppl got the same issue. But most of them could connect just unstable. Mine is not connected at all even it shows connected..... Anyone may have any solution or nothing i can do but waiting for the apple updates to fix the bug? Please help.......

Hello ipingilie,
For issues with getting online, then check out the first article below to use the Wireless Diagnostics to help isolate the issue. I would also recommend creating a new network location as that has helped me in the past with internet issues.

  • Starting iSight kills my internet connection- why?

Every time I start using iSight on my Macbook it kills my internet connection. I've tried with Skype, Yahoo IM, and even Chat Roulette but I always lose internet connection as soon as I start using it. My Macbook is almost 5 years old but have never had a problem before. This just started recently. I haven't switched internet providers or anything either. Please help, it's really frustrating.

Changing your router channel number may help.  If not, see the following KB Article:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 How to Troubleshoot iSight

  • Current iTunes upgrade kills ALL internet connection to computer

I'm using iTunes on Windows XP SP3.  Previous versions were not a problem.  I upgraded to the current version (11.0.2) and lost all internet connectivity, not just to the iTunes store, but to ALL applications; my computer reported that NO internet connection was present at all.  Doing a system restore resolved this, but the upgrade left some remnant that has rendered the previously working version of iTunes inoperable; when I execute it, it suggests I download the current version to correct the problem, but of course that kills my internet connection altogether and thus is not a solution.
Googling this has indicated fixes involving:
    1) Deleting the iTunesPrefs.XML file
    --> That didn't work.
    2) A solution involving executing "netsh winsock reset" at the command prompt and then rebooting.
    --> That didn't work either.
In fact, nothing I could find online worked.  I am NOT using Norton, McAfee, or any other anti-virus or firewall that would be causing the conflict.  Again, I'm using Windows XP SP3, and have a direct internet feed into my computer.
What can be done to fix this?  Currently I cannot use iTunes at all on my computer because of the upgrade and the havoc it's caused (the System Restore did NOT restore the previous working version of iTunes; when I execute it, it claims a component is missing and I should download and install the current version...)
    Many thanks in advance,
    Tom

  • Downloading large programs on Mac App Store kills my internet connection.

Most downloads work fine, but larger ones won't even start downloading.  I have to manually reset my DSL modem to get my internet connection back.  Seems to only happen with files that are > 1GB in size (Lion, Knights of the Old Republic).  If I connect to an external VPN the download works fine, but trying to directly download kills the modem.
Don't know why it only does this with larger files.  Is it making multiple connections that might be overwhelming my modem?  Anything I can do to troubleshoot or fix this - no error messages come up (just a dead connection), and I can see no logs to try to track down the issue.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I have had the same exact problem with the same exact app (Knights of the Old Republic) I have been having issues with every download from the App store. Sometimes the downloads will freeze other times (like now) it will kill my internet all together. I dont get why I can download anything fine through chrome or steam but the App store just will not work at my house. The only reason I am using it is because I have a gift card but honestly the service is so inconsinstant that I would rather not use it at all. If your still having issues (even though its been a few months) I would suggest trying a different Internet connection. When I went to an apple store to see if they could help I just used their internet and the download worked fine.

  • Everytime I turn on Outlook, it kills my internet connection and I have to reboot the router

As the title says, each time I turn on Outlook with Office 365, it kills my internet connection and I have to reboot the router. I can still login to the router admin and do a soft reboot. This kills the internet for all the computers on my network as well.
The weird exception to this is when I'm connected to my work VPN, then everything is fine.  Also, should be noted, it never did this at first...then started doing it randomly and stopped after a while...now a few months later, it started doing it agian.
Is there some sort of weird port forwarding I should be using?
I'm running through an Exchange server.
    Windows 7 Pro
    Router is a D-Link 857 - HD Media Router 3000..running latest firmware.
Everything is setup standard. No firewalls except the standard Windows firewall and the router is a really basic config.
Please any insight would be great!

    Hello AyaTheBookWorm,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I can definitely understand how this is frustrating, I would feel the same way.  To troubleshoot this issue please see the steps below, as well as checking out the Wireless Diagnostics.
Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly
Your Mac may not not stay connected to your Wi-Fi network reliably.
Your Mac may stop accessing the Internet during use.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer disconnects from its Wi-Fi network unexpectedly.
Check your range to the Wi-Fi router and reduce the effect of interference.
If your computer is too far from your Wi-Fi router or your environment has too much Wi-Fi interference, then your computer may not detect the Wi-Fi network properly. The easiest way to check for range limits with your Wi-Fi network is to move your computer or your Wi-Fi router closer together and make sure that there are no obstructions (such as walls, cabinets, and so forth) between the router and your computer.
See Potential sources of wireless interference for more information about interference and solutions.
Try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network. If your computer works fine when connected to a different Wi-Fi network, then the issue may be related to your network router or ISP. In that case, contact the manufacturer of your router or your ISP.

  • Yosemite killed Magic Mouse

Yosemite killed my Magic Mouse. It disconnects all of the time. Sometimes never reconnecting. Sometimes taking 15-20. Its so frustrating. Switching the mouse on/off from the mouse itself or via toggling Bluetooth on/off my MBP doesn't do anything. Manually trying to connect does nothing either. I participating in the Yosemite beta program from start to finish and submitted feedback on the issue numerous times.
Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix?
    Thanks
    ~ G

You've probably fixed this by now, but I encountered it on a Macbook Pro after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1 from Mavericks, where the Magic Mouse worked fine. After booting into Yosemite after the upgrade, the Magic Mouse wouldn't resync and the Bluetooth preferences didn't show the mouse. I changed the mouse batteries, turned it off and on several times, turned the Macbook Pro's Bluetooth off and on, and removed the unconnected Magic Mouse listing from the Macbook Pro's Bluetooth Preferences.
I'm not positive what fixed it, but while struggling with this issue it occurred to me an iPad with a Bluetooth keyboard and an iPhone with Bluetooth enabled were just a foot or two away from the MBP. I moved the iPad with its Bluetooth keyboard and iPhone w/Btooth enabled to the next room and suddenly the Magic Mouse connected to the MBP. I then noticed the iPad or iPad Btooth keyboard showed up as available in the MBP's Bluetooth preferences, so I removed that, too.
I'm not sure if this was a coincidence, but the idea it might help struck me based on the following reasoning, which might be faulty:
    - maybe Bluetooth in the Macbook Pro, the iPad and the iPhone were all detecting the Magic Mouse and the iPad and/or iPhone were "winning" or hogging, perhaps because they were on next to the Magic Mouse during the Macbook Pro's long hiatus during the Yosemite installation.
    - maybe by the time the Macbook Pro finally booted to Yosemite, the iPhone and/or iPad had hogged the Magic Mouse Bluetooth identity so the MBP saw the Magic Mouse as unavailable even though the MM and iPad/iPhone were just friends, not a pair.
I had another iPhone next to the MBP but its Bluetooth was off.
I didn't have time to verify this after the Magic Mouse started working because I was charging a client an hourly rate, otherwise, I would have nailed it down. Still, the agony in the forums over this issue lead me to post this possibility in case it turns out to be true.

  • App Store does not load & kills the internet connection

    Hello I'm currently using MBP 13' 2011 v. 10.7.2.
App Store window pops up after opening, but nothing actually shows up. It shows as if it is trying to load the App Store with the spinning indicator, but the app remains empty. Not only it does not load, it also kills whatever internet connection I've attempted on Safari. YouTube videos stop loading once App Store opens, for example.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

  • Safari Killing My Internet Connection?

    Ok, here is the background:
I usually run 2 internet browsers...Opera 9.26 is my primary browser, and I've been using Safari for items that Opera cannot correctly or sufficiently provide (usually Gmail, Facebook, CNN, and 1 or 2 other sites) I also run iChat and Colloquy as other internet-use apps.
For the past 1-2 weeks, Safari, I believe, has intermittently killed my internet connection. Usually it will be loading a local newspaper website or acting strangely on Facebook...then it will start to be very slow, the rainbow sphere will appear, and my internet will die...as in, nothing on Opera works, iChat disconnects, etc.
Today was exceptionally bad as it kept happening every few seconds. I had to switch to Camino for Gmail, Facebook, and CNN...and this resolved the problem.
Any idea at all? Is this happening to anyone else?

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
DNS server codes seem to remedy the page loading lag. Follow these steps:
Go to the System Preferences>Network panel
    - Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the location drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
    - Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Depending on whether you use Ethernet or Airport (wireless) for your setup: Only Ethernet or Airport ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply". Everything else ought to be unchecked unless you use a Bluetooth device.
    - Back to the "Show" menu, select either "Ethernet" or "Airport" (whichever applies to you). Click on the TCP panel. There, on separate lines in the DNS servers box enter Verizon's public DNS server codes: 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.
    Select "apply".
    Restart Safari or Camino.

  • As with many, Yosemite has killed my internet connection.

So, I tried upgrading to Yosemite the day of, and like many others here, my internet connection (wifi and ethernet) has yet to work.  I've tried a few different "tricks" but I haven't had any success.  I've even tried downgrading back to Mavericks, but most of the installed programs are non-existent.  Any suggestions?
    2010 iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core I3
    ATI Radeon HD 4670 256MB

I have the same issue. As many I tried doing this:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
Which will fix the internet connection till your next reboot or till you logoff. As soon as you login again or restart your Mac you will encounter the same problem again though. The underlying cause seems to not be with the internet or wifi connection though but with the way Mac OS X Yosemite resolves DNS. If you browse the web by using just IP addresses it'll work just fine.
Before Yosemite DNS was handled by mDSNResponder which eventually got replaced with discoveryd.
When I went to check my /System/Library/LaunchDaemons folder though I found that discoveryd.plist, discovery_helper.plist were sitting right next to mDSNResponder.plist and mDNSResponder_helper.plist.
My log files also showed a lot of entries saying: connect() failed path:/var/run/mDNSResponder
Maybe the actual mDNSResponder was correctly removed during the update process but the plist files in the LaunchDaemons folder remained causing our current problems ... I'm not sure.
What I did was I removed mDNSResponder.plist and mDNSResponder_helper.plist from my /System/Library/LaunchDemons folder and so far my internet connection seems to be working fine even after I restart my Mac or logoff and login again.

  • Not Happy, Yosemite killing my new iMac

I have a three month old 21" iMac with 1Gb and 8Gb DDR memory.
I updated to Yosemite several days ago and it's dreadful. Everything I do I get a spinning beachball
I've given it a few days to settle down but doing anything on it is frustrating.  I've bought this for my business (with Parallels & 8.1) and it's sucking the life out of me.
I'm not too technical but I've found the activity monitor and it shows that pretty much all of the RAM is being used.
Surely 8Gb of ram is not enough these days?  After spending £1,100 on a computer there's no way I'm buying more RAM....
Can anyone suggest what is killing my machine?
    Thank you in advance

thanks, i've ran the eltrecheck and here are the results

  • Problem with connecting to a website.  Just purchased a new iMac with Version 10.10.2 Yosemite.  Once in a while I have trouble connecting to a site.  It takes forever.  Is this an issue with Yosemite or my internet service?

I purchased this iMac in Feb. 2015.  When I try to connect to a web site using Safari or Google Chrome I usually have no problems getting connected to the site.  But maybe once a day I will try to connect and I will see the blue progress bar at the top of the screen showing it is trying to connect and then it just stops.  It may take a couple of minutes before it connects to the site.
Would this be a problem with OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2 ?  Or would this be a problem with my internet company?
    Thank you,
    Laurie

    Hi lauriefrommi,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
i understand that you have some intermittent webpage loading issues while using Safari on your Mac. In this situation, to ensure that Safari is working as it should, I would suggest reading over the attached article and using the information to make sure Safari has no unsupported third-party add-ons.
Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues - Apple Support

    Joe

  • ITunes 8.1 works great but killed wireless internet connection

I installed version 8.1 on both my laptop( PowerBook g4/ OS 10.4.11) and desktop (imac intel / OS 10.5) and after restarting the computer, the wireless internet connection stopped working on both.
I would open Safari and it would be a blank page and and the circle would keep spinning.
So I tried my laptop at a different wireless hotspot and had the same result.
I then tried repairing permissions and I got a list of problems with iTunes/Network Utilities, they repaired and now when I open Safari I get the message that it can not connect to the internet.
I do get an internet connection using ethernet on both.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Did you by any chance also update the firmware on your Apple Airport Extreme (if that's what you have)?
I thought 8.1 killed my connection to my Apple TV, but it was the faulty firmware (see reports elsewhere in these forums).
Now that I have rolled back from 7.4.1 on my Airport I plan to try iTunes again (with white knuckles).

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

      Jan 20, 2015, 08:05:15 PM Self test - passed

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • OS X Yosemite Screwed Up Internet

Is anybody else having the same issues as me. Ever since I update to the new OS X Yosemite, I'm having a hard time connecting to internet and do simple email that I could use to do faster with the previous OS X. The internet says Im not connected when my other devices is connected.
This is frustrating and I've restarted my computer but ever since the update, I'm having a hard time doing stuff on the internet. And this is ALL browsing apps like Google Chrome, FireFox etc.......
BTW, I find it odd that I can go to the Apple.com website and it loads fine but when I open another web page, it says not connected to the internet. I go back to apple.com to see if I am online and sure enough I am. This is crazy and ridiculous!!!!
    Anybody have suggestions for me???
    Thanks,
    Steven

Be careful.  You need to take some extra steps if you are going to revert to Mavericks.  After you install Yosemite, Time Machine data needs some tweaking before Mavericks will be able to recognize it properly and restore your data.  There were special instructions posted on the Beta site telling us how to safely remove Yosemite and re-install Mavericks, but that page has been modified in the past few days and that part was removed.  I asked that Apple re-post it someplace where we can find it again.  Wait for that.  It's a pain to wait, and might cost you, but you're taking your chances unless you follow those instructions.
