Yosemite Mail App won't launch

I am running OS X Yosemite. I haven't performed any updates today, and have used the mail app today, but just this evening I tried to launch it and nothing happened. The light appears under it to suggest it is running, I am able to launch the preferences, about, photo browser and many other things from the menu, however the mailbox does not appear and the new message option is greyed out as are several other options.
This is a really bizarre problem and I have been trying for hours to fix it... any ideas?
Thanks
Luke

Try a simple step first. Quit and relaunch Mail. If there's no change, log out or restart the computer and try again.

  • Images in Yosemite mail app won't load?

I recently upgraded from mountain lion to Yosemite on my 2012 21.5 iMac, everything seems to work except the images in my emails won't load. I have checked of the settings within the mail app and nothing seems to fix the issue. Could this be a Java issue? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Back up all data, then disable, or preferably get rid of, your third-party "firewall" or "security" software as directed by the developer. If you don't know which such software is installed, ask for further instructions.

  • Mail app won't launch: "No Info.plist file in application bundle..."

    Hi -
I'm running 10.6.8 on an Intel iMac and haven't used Mail in a long time.  I tried to start it today and it won't launch.  I opened the Package Contents for the app from the Finder, and double clicked the Mail executable.  It launched in a Terminal window and gave the following error message:
Last login: Thu May 24 12:17:01 on ttys000
    /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/Mail ; exit;
    imac:~ Bill$ /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/Mail ; exit;
2012-05-24 12:37:01.769 Mail[26585:903] No Info.plist file in application bundle or no NSPrincipalClass in the Info.plist file, exiting
    logout
I looked and there is a file called Info.plist in the folder and it even has the string NSPrincipalClass in it.  Beyond that, I am clueless!
    Any help much appreciated!

I would download and run the OS X 10.6.8 Combo update.
I peeked into it with Pacifist, and it contains an update for Mail.app, including replacements for the executable and the info.plist:

  • Mail apps won't launch browsers

i've tried thunderbird and sylpheed. they give a popup dialog that says "could not start Gnome browser... unable to determine address of the message bus." it's the same whether they're trying to open firefox, epiphany, or galeon (btw, the gtk2/gnome interface really sucks in that you can't just enter a pathname to an app manually, but you have to search all over the place if you don't know where ti is, and drill down to the application with mouse clicks )
i get the same thing when i try to run epiphany from the command line, but firefox and galeon both work from there. epiphany launches from cli if i put "dbus-launch" in front of the command. i tried adding that into the thunderbird mimetypes file, but it didn't work.
dbus is running, does anyone know what's wrong, or, more importantly, how to fix this dbus problem? :?:

  • Mail.app won't work properly after installing Yosemite

My "new viewer window" in Mail.app won't work after installing Yosemite. I can not access the viewer window and thus none of my email.
    How can I fix this?
    Mail.app v 8.0

some updates on this issue, Mail application uses the same proxy that has been set on your system (system preferences==>Network==>Advanced==>proxies). People usually use HTTP/HTTPS proxy for surfing the web. You should make sure to set SOCKS proxy as well. Mail application works with SOCKS proxy. Note that port number for SOCKS proxy is usually different from the port number for HTTP and HTTPS but the IP address of  your server (apparently) is the same.
    Hope this helps

  • Windows 10 Apps won't launch

It seems like none of my Win10 Apps want to launch and load up. I hit the icon for the app and it appears to start but it closes itself around 1s after launching. Xbox, Mail and others won't start. They were working fine until I changed some settings in
the Mail and it went bad from there.
I know there was a Command I could use in shell to manually uninstall/install each app but I can't seem to find it.
    Anyone have a solution?
P.S Launching from the Taskbar or the Start Menu  doesn't work, and the Store (Beta) doesn't launch either.

We know this one will be a bit painful but there is a bug with this build in which Win32 (desktop) apps wonʼt launch from the Start menu. The workaround is to use search to find and launch these apps and pin them to your taskbar for quick access.
You should reread the OP. xHDx is asking about Modern apps, the issue you
posted about, as is clearly stated, is referring to old style Win32 apps
and not the Modern ones. Your post isn't helping here.

another workaround for win32 program on start menu is run them as admin.

  • Apps won't launch... help!

My phone was working fine this morning, but suddenly my apps won't launch anymore... I have NetNewsWire, Super Monkey Ball, and Tap Tap currently loaded. The camera seems to crash as well...
Safari, iTunes, App Store, Ipod, mail, etc. all seem to be working fine! What's wrong?!?!

I've had a couple of apps open, and then close. A restore sorted that. With the exception of the Mail application - so I obviously can't download that again! The bizarre thing is that if I choose a picture, and select the email option, it opens a message - I can then delete the picture from the message and type what I want. So the application isn't totally corrupt, then. It's a hassle to do that, though, and it's no help in reading received emails - which currently entails going into webmail through my ISP, which again is a bit of a faff.

  • Safari and mail now won't launch

    Hello
I have done something very silly. I run 10.3.9 and downloaded and installed Safari 3 not realising it wasn't compatible. It was allowed to install indicating the install was successful. However Safari and mail now won't launch. Have I lost the apps and is there anything I can do to get them back, particularly mail?

  • Kernel panic, then x11.app won't launch.

I had a kernel panic a hour or two ago while doing a bunch of stuff (compiling pkgsrc bootstrap, running virtual pc, and surfing w/firefox), and now X11.app won't launch. The only error messages I can find are in the console log:

Feh, of course right after posting this, I figured it out.
I had an ssh-agent socket hanging around, apparently that did it.

  • IPhone 3rd party apps won't launch anymore!

After updating the iPhone software to 3.1, a host of 3rd-party apps won't launch anymore (appear for 1 second, then revert back to the apps icons page).
I've tried upgrading to iTunes 9, uninstalling then reinstalling ALL apps on the iPhone via iTunes, hard rebooting my iPhone, restarting my iMac, etc etc, but nothing works.
On a iPhone 3Gs page on the Forums, I saw many others having similar difficulties and blaming it on the XX upgrade. One solution proposed there was to download a free app from the App Store and install it. Tried that, and it didn't work for me.
I hope Apple will give this attention, because it's basically disabled my iPhone's business-sensitive functionalities (like 1Password) on the eve of a 2week business trip ... and on business trips, I don't have my iMac with me! >:-(
In case it helps the OS is showing as 3.1 (7C144) on my device.

    Hi!
I may have a solution to your problem. I updated to Firmware 3.1 today and couldn´t open any application i downloaded. I seems the updated version of iTunes handles apps a little different from before. When you connect your iPhone and it pops up in iTunes, right click on it to enter your configuration area (for the iPhone). At the top bar you have a row of options like music, pictures, podcast and somewhere in the middle you have the option "Programs". Click on that and you will see a list of all the programs you have downloaded in iTunes. Unfortunatly you have to recheck all the boxes at the left side of the program you want to be synched to your iPhone. Check these boxes and click "Apply" at the bottom right and iTunes will now transfer them to your iPhone. Easy breasy when you know how to do.
    Best of luck, Cheers!

  • TS3103 Mail app will not launch

My mail app ceased to launch after the September software date.  Any Fix.  Can I return to the previous software update.  Thank you.

Does Mail show up in the title bar at the top of your screen when you click on it?

  • Mail app won't show photos

This problem exists in all three new iPhone 4s's in my family:  The Mail app won't display some photos attached to emails.  Some photos show up, others don't.  All are jpeg's with the proper .jpg appendage, all are relatively small files (approx 200kb).  The ones that show up and the ones that don't are the same in all three iPhones.  The photos all do show up on desktop and laptop computers.  On the iPhones, in Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calenders/Load Remote Images is turned on.  I tried turning the setting off, then on, tried rebooting the iPhone, nothing works.

    lou tetl,
The list in iTunes under the Info tab is the list of accounts you can transfer the settings for from your computer directly to the iPhone.
It is not a list of the accounts on the iPhone, or a list of all accounts on your computer.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • My Creative Cloud App won't launch

My Creative Cloud App won't launch I'm seeing other posts of the same problem that are unanswered. Is there an issue with cloud today?

I'm having a similar problem. CC is greyed out and has no content when selected, meaning I have no access to my type kit font library. I've uninstalled CC and reinstalled CC. I've followed another course of action which is to trash the opm.db file (username > Library > Application Support > Adobe > OOBE > opm.db) which was advised from another forum, followed by a reinstall again. No joy... any help would be much appreciated

  • Mail app doesn't launch

    my mail app doesn't launch
    using Lion

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • IWork apps won't launch after new HD installed

My hard drive was failing so all files were backed up to an external hard drive (don't know what method - the Mac store did it for me) then moved to the new hard drive. Now the iWork apps won't launch. Doesn't matter which account I use and makes no difference if I boot in Safe Mode. I've updated iWork and still no difference. The icon flashes a couple of times on the dock, then disappears. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you say you updated iWorks are you talking about the update a few days ago? How about just reinstalling the applications?
