Yosemite Mail highlights oldest results first

In Yosemite Mail, I have a problem with my search results.
When I search, the results are displayed in the correct order with most recent emails at the top and the oldest at he bottom (in line with my settings). But the system highlights the bottom most email result first.
The consequence of this is that I need to scroll up from the bottom to the top of the search results every time I make a search. That was never the case in earlier OS versions.
Does anybody know how to set Yosemite Mail up, so it shows me the results at the top first?
Or is this a bug that I will have to live with until it gets fixed?

  • Yosemite Mail Sets IMAP Flags differently than earlier Mail Versions

Since converting to Yosemite, our junk mail filtering system (a copy of Thunderbird running 24/7 on our Linux server) has not worked.   We get over 1,000 pieces of Spam per day and use this setup to screen the junk before reading on our iPhones.
After hours of debugging I discovered that when Yosemite Mail initially downloads a message from the IMAP server (we use HostGator), Yosemite Mail sets the IMAP Flags on the server to be NonJunk    $NotJunk    NotJunk
Yosemite Mail does this before any message is viewed.
This is very different than Mavericks and earlier versions of Mail.  In those earlier versions, no IMAP server Flags were set when a message was downloaded.  The same is for the current version of iOS on my iPhone; no IMAP server Flags are set.
The problem is that the three versions a "Not Junk" flag set by Yosemite Mail are confusing Thunderbird and probably other Mail clients.
Does anyone know a way to stop to Yosemite Mail from setting these flags?   I filled a bug report with Apple, but am not optimistic...

Back up all data before proceeding.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your administrator login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Linked image in Apple Mail highlighting instead of linking

I'm trying to send an email from Apple Mail with an image that links to a web page.
I made the email by uploading a small html page with the image+ link, then using Safari's Share>Email This Page. I've also tried attaching the image and using File>Add link.
When testing the mail on my working machines (iMac and macBook Pro,  OSX 10.10.1, mail verson 8.1) the image highlights with a blue background instead of linking through. If I double-click it opens the image in Preview. Hovering over the image will show the URL in a tooltip, but clicking it only highlights.
The image link works fine on my iPhone, iPad, and older Macbook 4,1 (OSX 10.6.8, mail 4.6), and it works fine on a friend's macbook (OSX 10.9.5, mail 7.3), but not for another friend with the same OS/Mail versions as mine.
Haven't seen any mention of this problem anywhere else and would love to get some guesses as to what might be going on.
    many thanks!

I just upgraded to Yosemite and thought I would try Mail again. My first big objection is I want absolute dates instead of relative dates (today, yesterday etc.).
Does anyone know how to change this in Mail?

  • Images with embedded hyperlinks do not function in Yosemite Mail

    I'm running Yosemite 10.10.2 on a 2012 iMac.
I send out a newsletter with images and hyperlinks embedded in those images. You click on an image, and your browser takes to to a specified web location.
In Yosemite, Mail allows you to embed hyperlinks in an image... just highlight the image, press Command K and enter the link.
The link even shows up when you hover the mouse over the image, but...
No users of Yosemite that receive my newsletter can click on an image and activate the hyperlink.
This worked fine in other versions of OS X.
Any help here would be appreciated.
I'm at a loss to understand why one of the most important and basic programs in Apples OS X, has such a glaring flaw.
    Thanks
    John C

There is an issue with Cmd-K in Mail when used with certain URI, which may explain why some have not encountered a problem.
If the link you are pasting contains characters that need to be "escaped" (such as the hash, #), Cmd-K strips the escaped characters, and replaces them with the naked character.
    Cmd-K converts
    this 'escaped' link:  http://foo.com/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fMapping+Audit+%232
into:  http://foo.com/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=/Mapping+Audit+#2. Because # is a reserved character in the attributes, and is no longer escaped, the link will fail.
Directly pasting the escaped link into Mail, without using Cmd-K, will work fine. But that won't help if you want to add a link to an image or other text.
Best to change the the name of the linked item, if possible, so it does not use a reserved character.

  • Yosemite Mail - Allow Insecure Authentication

First issue I thought was resolved in OS X Yosemite, that was after my first boot when loading Mail, my IMAP mailboxes showed an 'error' exclamation mark. After some brief searching, I found that allowing insecure authentication (Under Mail Preferences) resolved it.
However the setting is NOT retained upon a relaunch of Mail. Whilst the app is running the settings are retained, but as soon as you quit and reload you have to set it again.
    Tedious.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    I have the same problem.
    Late 2012 imac 27", intel i7 core
When I upgraded to Yosemite, suddenly my email account (netvigator POP) gives an error:
Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk.
I have shut down & restarted mail, but no success. If I select Allow insecure authentication, it works, but that's not a long term fix.
I also have a hotmail POP account enabled, and that is working fine.
    What's happening Apple??
(Long term apple family - iMac, iBooks, TimeCapsule, iPhones, iPads, AirportExpress etc etc)

  • Yosemite Mail context menu not working

Since the installation of Yosemite, Mail context menus no longer work. Control-clicking on a hyperlink in a mail messages opens a context menu containing these items:
Selecting any of the first 3 has no effect. Just clicking on the hyperlink will switch to the browser (Safari) and open the link. Clicking on "Services" does display a list of Services, and "Open URL in Firefox" at least seems to work. However, "Open URLs in Safari Tabs" does not. This seems to indicate a possible disconnect between Mail and Safari in particular.
I've seen this problem in the Yosemite beta, the 10.0 release and the 10.1 release.  I haven't heard of many encountering this problem, but I have heard of a few. Has anyone here seen this, and maybe found a resolution for the problem?
    Operating Environment
MacBook Pro (Late 2011), Mac Pro (Late 2008)
    Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1)
    Mail (Version 8.1)
    Safari (Version 8.0)

This must be a pretty low-priority bug. I saw it in the Yosemite beta, and every update since, now including 10.10.2.

  • Yosemite Mail not showing recipients properly

Another problem has shown itself in Yosemite Mail - I just replied to an email that involved the reply going to a list of people.
But in the compose window, I can see only the first recipient in the Cc: window, and the cut-off tops of a second line of recipients only. There is no way to scroll down, and no way of enlarging that Cc: window. I'm only seeing one recipient in the Cc:, but can see that there are others even though I can't see them.
Anyone else seeing the same thing? I'm on an iMac, but the same thing happens on my MacBook Pro.
And I STILL can't find a list of contacts and their email addresses that will allow me to multi-select (Cmd-click) and then pop them into one of the address windows, like the old Address Panel used to do. The Panel that is now missing. Clicking the blue plus sign at the far right does NOT let you multi-select.  It's one at a time - a real PITA.
If this problem of not showing at least two lines of addresses properly in the address windows on a new email is not just me, then that's another issue that needs to be submitted to
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

    Thanks for the rapid response
No extensions (I used to use Mail Tags, but it's long gone) - plain vanilla Mail.app
The primary recipient (in the To: field) showed OK, but in the Cc: field, I could just see the first recipient, and then there was obviously a second line of addresses - I could see the cut-off tops only - and I couldn't see the usual "...and 3 more" thing - it would have been at the end of that second line that I couldn't see.
Just to clarify - the problem does NOT seem to be when I initiate a new email. It was when I was replying to an email, and I clicked on "Reply All".
Also, somewhat disconcertingly, while Mail will find my Exchange contacts when I initiate an email, I tried to add an extra recipient to my Reply All email - and it wouldn't find that address and wouldn't let me add it from the blue plus sign. I couldn't add it to the Cc: field - I couldn't see the end of that field as described above. So I tried to add it to the To: field. No go...!
Something in the land of Yosemite Mail.app seems to be right royally screwed. Loads of problems by many people across this and several other forums. Amazing how it got through beta testing...!

  • Yosemite Mail still has sync problems with Gmail - any solutions?

I notice that Yosemite Mail still has sync problems with Gmail. After running for some hours, I noticed there were 6 emails in my Gmail account that had not synced over the past hour.
In the meanwhile, for safety's sake (don't want to miss emails!) I'm back to Mailplane. But I wonder if anybody knows of a solution to this long term problem first introduced in Mavericks. Works fine in iOS Mail though.
    Thanks,
    doug

I don't think we'll ever have a "best of both worlds" Doug. I've used Gmail since the week it launched the first beta in 2004, and it's always been a bit of a love-hate relationship for me (mostly love). With the demise of the Google Notifier for Mac, I went with Mailplane, but even it has problems. Like when I see my iPhone update with new mail and I'm looking at Mailplane and it won't update at times with even a forced refresh. I often have to close/reopen it to see new messages. But, it's hard to live without my Google Calendar only a tab click away, one of the primary reasons I use Mailplane, that plus changing view zoom sticks with Mailplane and won't with Gmail.
For years I've thought Gmail labels were the perfect filing solution, but over the past few weeks I've been analyzing just how much I really use that feature, and for me...it's not all that much. I think I could simplify my life by putting everything into appropriate folders (as in all other email apps). Apple doesn't realize just how much money they're losing by not allowing people to use private domains with iCloud mail...which I would do in a heartbeat just because it would work perfectly with Mail.app. I would pay even more than I currently pay Google for this solution with Google Apps Business. So, I'm actually on the verge of moving my private domain to the best email service I can find and then using it with Mail.app. The problem here, of course, is I'll lose the best spam control on the planet (Gmail). So, as you say, there simply is not a "best" solution for all these things. I'll at least try a new email service first with some other domain to see how I like it before moving my primary email.
Lastly, the other thing that incenses me is synching of flags between iOS and Apple Mail. It works fine between Gmail and iOS Mail, since all I care about is whether a message is starred/flagged or not.  But using Apple Mail, when I flag a message it will not show as flagged in their own iOS Mail, which is incomprehensible, given they built both apps.
If you find a great solution or discover anything new...please post it here, Doug. Thanks.

  • Gutted. Yosemite Mail lost all my signatures.

Gutted. Yosemite mail has lost all my signatures. 100+ time saving replies and standard emails, that have taken years to put together. They were there yesterday, and now only the names remain, the signature contents are blank.
So I used TimeMachine to replace user/library/mail/V2/signatures folder, with Mail closed - but this made no difference. Mail straight away wipes over it. The files remain in the signatures folder.
I originally copied my Mail folder direct from the last system, overwriting user/library/mail. On first launch, Mail took some time to update the folder. So surely this isn't the problem.
Any help gratefully appreciated. Anyone else with the same problem?
    Thanks

    Hi, sixfinger.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try forcing all applications to close and restart the device.  Once this is done test to see if the Mail app functions correctly.

  • Why will IMAP email not send from Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite Mail even though it is configured the same as on my old Macbook (and emails are sending just fine on the old computer)?

I can receive but cannot send IMAP email on my 1&1 mail account from Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite Mail on my new Macbook Pro. The account is set up the same port, password, username, server name as on my old Macbook and emails are sending just fine on the old computer.
When I hit send on the new Macbook Pro running Yosemite I get this message:
"The connection to host ... on port 993 failed.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
It shows the server as (offline)
I've tried erasing and typing in the password.  I've tried both checking and unchecking Automatically detect and maintain account settings. Still cannot send.
I also have a Gmail account and it is working...

email service uses an Incoming Server and an Outgoing Server. Mac Mail makes access to the Incoming Server(s) obvious, and hides the settings for the outgoing Server(s). A quick and easy way to get access to the Outgoing Servewr settings is to use:
    Window > Connection Doctor ...
... then click on the red light for the Server that is not working for you to see its settings.
This web page will make an educated guess about how to set up your Servers, and NO SPAM will follow:

  • "View in Place" inline images and PDFs in Yosemite Mail

I'd like to have the "View in Place" option available for images and PDFs, but it appears to be missing in Yosemite Mail. It would be particularly helpful with this new Markup feature. Any ideas how I might do this?

When I drag a PDF or an image (TIFF, JPEG, etc.) into the body of an Apple Mail message, I see an icon of that file.
There used to be a contextual menu option to "View as Icon" or "View as Image" in previous iterations of Mail, but now with Yosemite, I am only able to send the message with the image or PDF file viewed as an icon. As a comparison, when Composing a message in the Gmail desktop web interface, you can click on the Insert Image Icon, and you are given the option to insert the image "Inline" or "As attachment." I like having both options and I wonder if there is a Terminal command or third-party solution to restore this functionality.

    Hi
It shows just 4 always as an option in the "open with" lsit. Also I haven't downloaded any apps for a while so why would it start now?
Do you know how I can estabilsh how many apps are counting toward this 10 and what they are?

    Hi howe.sc,
When I checked for how signatures in Yosemite work, I found this.
Mail (Yosemite): Include signatures in messages
Delete a signature from a message: Select the signature, then press the Delete key.
Replace a signature in a message: Delete the existing signature, then add a different signature.
That sounds similar to what you are describing.
    Take care,

  • Clearing of oldest items first in FICA

    Dear Friends,
My Utility client is implementing SAP-ISU.
Presently their Legacy system uses a "Balance Carryforward" functionality for clearing the open items.
The system simply clears the oldest bills outstanding for the Business partner with the Payments received.
So whether the customer pays through check/draft/direct memo instructions the system clears the oldest bills outstanding.
The same functionality is required in SAP.
Their is no requirement for assignment criteria for clearing of payments say check number/bill number, etc except the Customer's Contract a/c.
SAP suggests clearing of Outstanding bills through Payment lots/ Check lots/card lots using assignment criteria.
Please let me know how i can have payment clearing with this 'oldest bill first' clearing functionality in SAP.
Also request to please send me your phone numbers so that i can contact you for seeking help.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Priyank,
The clearing of items in first in first out basis can be done through clearing control.
You have to do the settings in the follwing path.
IMG -> Financial Accounting (New) -> Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable -> Basic Functions -> Open Item Management -> Clearing Control -> Define Clearing Variants
Hope it will be useful to you.
    Regards,
    Bodhayan
