Yosemite mail not working - continual quit to rebuild

After upgrading to Yosemite the mail app will launch then say its rebuilding.  After some time it comes back and says to quit and relaunch to allow rebuild. Successive attempts result in the same problem.  I have turned off all accounts in preferences internet accounts but get the same results.

Is this your personal computer, or is it managed by someone else? Is there a preference pane named "Profiles" in System Preferences? If so, then some settings have been locked and you can't change them directly.

  • Mac OS X Yosemite mail not working properly

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) - and using with Mac OS 10.10 - Yosemite
i was previously using Mail with Mavericks without any major problems - Gmail, exchange server, iCloud, etc.
however, after upgrading to yosemite immediately I started getting following problems:
    - mail freezing and frequently requiring to shutting down
    - exchange server not syncronizing emails; or doing so irregularly
    - overall mail running EXTREMELY slowly
is anyone having similar problems? Exchange server is critical for me as i cannot use it the way it is now.
any solutions? how can i reach directly apple regarding this matter to have a quick fix?

  • Lion 10.7 / pop mail not working...

on an intel mac pro... pop mail not working... problems with 110 port connecting to server... any suggestions?

The only possible way to get my mail working with Mac OS X 10.7.4 was to use Thunderbird (latest version, 13) instead of Apple Mail. I don't know if this was related to my ISP only but I'm surprised that there aren't more discussions about this problem. Apparently, it is very widespread from what my ISP said. They said there is a problem with (or change in) the way Apple Mail handles POP accounts under Mac OS X 10.7.x. They are getting dozens of calls about it every day. My POP account, which worked perfectly under Mac OS X 10.6.8, simply would not retrieve mail under Mac OS X 10.7.4 using the exact same settings. I tried absolutely everything that I could find on the Internet to resolve the problem in order to continue to use Apple Mail.
So for anyone else experiencing this problem, forget Apple Mail. Download Thunderbird and set up your POP account exactly as it was set up under Snow Leopard and your problem will be solved. Looks like Apple has some fixing to do. This is unacceptable, regardless of what Apple's excuse is or whatever their reason was for making this change.
I like Thunderbird. I'm actually kind of glad this happened now

  • Mail not working in new mini mac

i got new mini mac and mail not working. i get this message.
You have Mail version 4.2 (1078/1084). It can’t be used on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 (Build 10K549). For more information, click the Help button.
    dont know what to do
    thanks

Should be Mail 4.5.  With Spotlight, check to see if you have more than one version of the Mail app onboard.  Also, make sure that there is one at the root level of the Applications folder, and that it is namely simply Mail before applying the Combo.

  • HT2216 I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  Any clues?

I am on OSX 10.7.5 and recently had to reinstall it due to 'mail' not working correctly.  That problem was resolved but now my I can't use the 'right click' function on the apple usb mouse.  I only have a previous version re-install disc as I bought the latest OSX off the app store.  Any help gratefully received?

Hmmm, no, no drivers needed, now it sounds like a bad install... unless you might have some old Mouse software installed???
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

iCloud mail not working. I can send but cannot receive. Is the system down?

Same here. I can send mails from iCloud.com Webmail, but cannot receive.
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of
its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address

  • Messages not working (automatically quits on opening)

Messages (7.0.1) is not working (automatically quits on opening) on my desktop 2 x 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac running OSX 10.8.5. I get notifications of new messages (via Notifications app I assume) but every time I try to open Messages, it quits on launch with the Problem Report dialogue window

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iChat.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Mail not working after using migration assistant - what am I missing?

The mailbox list is divided into categories with headings in caps, such as ON MY MAC. When you hover the cursor over one of those headings (except for MAILBOXES), you should see the word Show or Hide on the right. Click Show. The  MAILBOXES category can't be hidden.
In each category, the mailboxes are arranged in groups, such as Inbox. To the left of each group is a small disclosure triangle. If the triangle points to the right, click it so that it points down.
