Yosemite Messages App - Privacy Issue?

Hi
I searched for this problem and have not found it posted before. Sorry if its a duplicate.
I have noticed a potential privacy issue with the way the Yosemite Messages app manages group SMS messages. I received an SMS on my iPhone from a non Apple user and on my phone it appears as normal sms in this contacts historical message listing. Ok nothing special.
However on the Messages app on Yosemite this message appeared in a separate thread as a group conversation with Messages exposing all the recipients phone numbers that also received the SMS from the original sender. These recipients are not in my Address book or contacts list? This is not normal behaviour on the iPhone as you don't see who else received the SMS?
Another issue is that replying to message in this group message actually SMS messages ALL recipients and not just the original sender. The original sender certainly had not intended to share their entire recipient list with me.

Hi,
I would tell them. http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Messages App| connectivity issues since upgrading to Mavericks

is anyone having problems since upgrading to Mavericks with connectivity issues in the "Messages" app? Im on a 2011 MacBook Pro. I will start a desktop share session with my folks (IMAC) and within 2-3 minutes of having access to their desktop, I'm unable to control any longer and their system freezes.

    HI,
When iChat 3 came out someone tested whether it would work on the platform that was running iChat 2 and also tested whether iChat 2 would work on the later OS.
This eventually led to the Reinstall procedure for iChat 3 up to the iChat 5 version.
Since then the app has required either a Backup version from when it was working, a copy on another machine running the same OS and app version numbers (the two go hand in hand) or you have to Reinstall the whole OS which will always update you to the latest version of the OS (and in the case of Messages any updates it has had).

  • Messages App Connectivity Issues

I have been having loads of issues with the Messages App. This one revolves around its tendency to spontaneously stop sending and receiving messages. An example of this goes as follows.
My friend (with MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion) and I will be chatting using the Messages App. Everything seems to be working fine. However, if we stop talking for more than about 5 minutes or so, my messages stop getting "Delivered" (as I have read receipt on). His messages stop coming through. Sometimes they will go to our phones, but not always. Once I regain connectivity (usually through quitting and restarting messages), all of the messages come through at once. It is becoming increasingly frustrating to both of us that this App seems to spontaneously decide when to work and when not to work.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

    HI,
Any one router can handle 255 other devices other than itself.
That means if there are more than 255 students and teachers you have to get a second router (or more).
This can mean that as you move about you are hopping between routers.  This increases the chances of being "dropped" by the whole set up.
Depending on the number of employees at your work and how much you move about between any routers may see the same sort of issues arise.
Part of the issue could be how IP address are allocated.
When you join a network you get an IP from the router.
You are what is called "leased" that IP number.
The default period for many router is 24 hours. As long as you rejoin within that period you should get the same IP.
Issues can arise when the router's timing of a lease period and a computer's timing don't match and two computers try to use the same IP.  Both would normally get a message pop up telling them so.
Getting kicked of the network silently (no error message) is somewhat less likely.
Are you having issues with other apps that go On line, particularly Web Browsers ?

  • Auto Accept with Screen Sharing with Yosemite Messages App

I take care of many of my family and friend's Macs and I'm really excited that screen sharing with 10.10 Yosemite through iMessage. I'm wondering if anyone know of a way to enrol their Macs into auto-accepting me to control the screen without the need for them to accept it. I know there was a way to do this back in the days of iChat.

    Hi,
In Any Finder window use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
Select the Library that appears and the navigate to Application Scripts/com.apple.iChat
Double click the Auto Accept item to open in in the Script Editor (formerly AppleScript Editor)
You will note the Text section at the top is commented out by being between (* and then the text and then *) the stars and parentheses.
Later a single line is also commented out with a # symbol
In iChat the section for Auto Accepting Screen Sharing used to be commentated out  (originally it was not even there)
You might decide to comment out the other lines leaving just the bits you want.  (or Copy the AppleScript and alter the copy).
Then you can go to Messages > Preferences > General Section and select the AppleScript as the Messages Received item.
    NOTE
I have had issue myself with the AppleScripts as they stand  in Yosemite.
I have tried several of those that are Included and some that I have collected from iChat and all return and error messages about timing out at present.
Others have reported the same in various Threads here at the Apple Support Communities.
At present there does not seem to be a work around.

  • Is it possible to sync past sms to Yosemite messages app?

  • Messages.app/Facetime Broken/Not-Working in Yosemite 10.10

    Hi all.
I'm wondering if anyone else is having a problem with Messages.app/iMessage/Facetime after upgrading/installing Yosemite (the release version)? My Messages doesn't work.
    The Problems
    (A) Specifically, when you enter your AppleID in Messages.app->Preferences->Accounts->iMessagesAccount you get the following error:
    Quote:
Could not sign in to iMessage.
Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.
Sometimes the error says it cannot activate.
    (B) Also, oddly, FaceTime makes me enter my AppleID every time i reboot, but will work for Video FaceTime chats, but not audio?  And once I reboot, it again asks me for my AppleID.
    My Setup
I have a 2010 Mac Pro. My Mac Pro is not stock, but nothing that's in there *should* cause a problem, so I wonder if anyone else is having a similar issue. My non stock hardware is:
--MacVidCard 802.11ac and bluetooth 4.0 upgrade card (http://www.macvidcards.com/store/p33...port_Card.html)
    --VisionTek 7750 Eyefinity 6 2GB card (https://www.visiontek.com/graphics-c...rd-detail.html)
--OWC Mercury Accelsior E2 SSD (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/P...Accelsior/RAID)
--Inateck 4 port PCI-E to USB 3.0 card (which has requires no drivers and is a pretty compatible card) (http://www.inateck.com/inateck-kt400...er-connection/)
--Upgraded the 12-core 2.66ghz motherboard to 12-core 3.46 west mere x5690 xenon (turnkey OWC upgrade) (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/turnk...Xeon_Processor)
Here is some of the troubleshooting I've already done:
I tried making a new guest account and tried to login there, and went so far as to install a clean install on a blank external drive with similar results. The only caveat is when you make the new guest account of fresh install, when you first put in your AppleID it almost kinda succeeds.  You initially see the screen where Messages tells you it's associating your phone number and a few email addresses together.  But if you try to use Messages, nothing gets through, and when you quit and re-run the app, you get that same 'could not sign in' error.
Went through the stuff here to no avail:messages "An error occurred while activating. Try again later"
My serial number does show in about this Mac.
Messages/iMessage/Facetime all work(ed) fine under 10.9.x on the Mac Pro, so it should not be a hardware issue, as I didn't change any hardware over after upgrading.
I installed Yosemite on my 2013 13" Macbook Pro and Messages/Facetime all work fine, so it's likely nothing to do with my network.
I have confirmed that others that have done the MacVidCard 802.11ac/bluetooth upgrade are not experiencing this issue.
    Same with the USB card.
Since I installed a fresh OS on an external drive, I doubt the OWC Accelsior has anything to do with this.
I called apple support, and they are stumped and getting engineers to figure it out. One support guy at apple said the broken Messages.app problems were his only unresolvable problem he was getting this since Yosemite launched (and that it has been an exceptionally smooth launch), and had 4 calls on the same issue early morning the day after launch (he's one level up from the entry support folks and the only level above him are the actual software engineers).
The video card seems highly unlikely to matter here. Then again, I'm not sure the hardware should matter at all...Which leaves me with...
    My Suspicion
I think there may be an interplay between 2 things going on.  One, although I haven't changed my motherboard, perhaps changing the processor tray makes something fail with the Messages authentication?  And second, perhaps there is some corrupted data up on iCloud that alone or in combination with the processor tray, is tripping up Messages verification? The solution might be to bring my machine in and have them do some magic to make the serial number authorized on their system?
Appreciate any thoughts and thanks for any help. Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Yosemite - Cannot log in to the Message app

    Dear all,
I have a Macbook Pro mid-2009 with Yosemite. I cannot log in to the Message app with my Apple ID. When I try to log in, a window pops up and ask me to contact the Apple assistance. My Apple ID works though with my iPhone and iPad. What should I do ?
    Many thanks for you help.

    Hi,
That sounds like it is not creating the IDS item from the Keychain again.
Check the Apple Menu item in the Finder > About this Mac and see if the Serial Number is visible in the info panel.
If it is there use the Finder > GO Menu whilst holding down the ALT key and selecting the Library at appears.
    Navigate to Preferences.
Find the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist item and Drag it to the Trash.
    Restart the app again.
This.plist holds the Apple ID being used for the iMessage ID and deleting it will require you to re-enter it in Messages.
You may also see the pop up about any other devices using the same Apple ID if you have linked them.
If this does not work you will have to consider calling Apple Support and have them look at the iMessages Server responses to the Login.
Calls about an Apple ID issue should be free.
There are other known issue that only effect an Apple ID whilst it is being used with the iMessages Servers from a  Mac.
Ask to speak to a Level 2 person if you have difficulties with the Level 1 person.

  • Has anyone else had the issue of the the screen randomly flashing black only when using Messages app in landscape?

I have been having an issue with the screen flashing black for several seconds then turning back on. This olny occurs in the Messages app and only in landscape mode. I have never noticed the issue in any other app. The issue is 100% repeatable. Has anyone else had this issue or know of any solutions to what seems to be a bug?
    -iPhone 5s running iOS 7.1
    KCM

I think this is an issue with the phone's proximity sensor (the one that turns the screen off when you hold it up to your ear). It's a bug that seems to occur when you switch to another app (any app) while still on a phone call. You'll notice in Messages that the screen goes dark when you move your thumb over the earpiece/iSight camera, but not when you move your other thumb.
Simplest solution is to force-quit the Messages app (double-click the home button, and swipe up on the app). The problem should resolve itself when you restart Messages.

  • OSX Yosemite: cmd-M no longer showing/hiding the messages app

OSX Yosemite: cmd-M no longer showing/hiding the messages app. Is there a new shortcut to get this to work?

Remove Office 2008 for Mac using Microsoft deinstall procedure. Reinstall Office 2008 for Mac.  If there are updates, apply them. Using Disk Utility, verify/repair permissions on your boot drive.
Does Office for Mac 2008 now work correctly? If not, you may want to repeat the above first sentence, and then update to Office for Mac 2011, and apply the latest (14.4.8) update which has Yosemite fixes.

  • Messages.app ~ "Auto-fill/Contact Indexing" Problem Mavericks/Yosemite

I recently bought a MBP secondhand, and I am having a problem with the messages app.
When I create a new conversation and start to type in a contact, the former owner's contacts appear in the "suggestions." Obviously, I do not want this to happen. I do not want to start from scratch/"restore" as a blank machine either.
Things I have tried/checked thus far:
~ I made sure that only my accounts and none of the former owner's accounts are logged in for @internet accounts in Apple system preferences. (I have rechecked my accounts' contacts by logging into them directly(gmail/icloud,etc), and the former owner's contacts didn't sync there or anything)
    ~ I have deleted the files chat.db chat.db-shm and chat.db-wal.
    ~ Also did this :
"There's also another way to clear iMessage chat history on Mac OS. You can do this through the command line. Quit out of iMessage and open Terminal, at the prompt type the following:asdf
    rm -r ~/Library/Messages/chat.*"
~I have deleted the ichat and imessage/messages plist.
~I have double-checked the contacts app, and these "irritating" contacts are not there.
The most alarming thing is that the contacts show up in messages on both of my computers now. Where are these contacts stored???
    HELP! & thanks!

    Hi,
In Messages > File Menu do you you have the Recents item ?  (it is not there in Yosemite which I am booted into at the moment)
If so do these same "Ghost" contacts show up there ?
If this is the case use the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in ~/Library/Preferences into the dialogue box.
In the Preferences folder find com.apple.ichat.plist and drag it to the Chat (It holds the Recents List amongst others).
    Restart the app.
You may have to re-make some settings in the app. (the Font and Speech Bubble colours for incoming and outgoing messages if you changed them, the Buddy List sort order and things like that).

  • Issue with Messages App and disk usage

    Hi there,
Has everyone ever experienced this weird bug?
Everytime I launch Messages App, my available disk space goes down almost by 15 Gb, making my hard drive instantly full, and my computer unusable.
The only solution I found is to force quit Messages App, and never use it again
I have a MacBook Retina, that I bought a month ago.
It's been working super fine since I got it, apart from that stupid bug that appeared two days ago.

    HI,
    Never heard of this one.
    (Never seen it myself)
I would start with a PRAM reset
    Shut down the computer.
Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.
DO you have notion of how many Conversations Messages may be trying to show in the left hand column of the Message window ?
(Saves Messages and the iMessages database are already held on the computer so I don't really see this as the issue)

I recently updated to iOS8 and downloaded a few third party keyboards.  These keyboards are usable and available with all apps except for the "Messages" app.  The third party keyboards don't even show up as an option while typing a text message or an iMessage.  I have allowed these keyboards Full Access and have turn off Guided Access.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!
