Yosemite new photo app and icloud: uploading photos

I have upload problems: it looks as if uploading c.100,000 photos of c. 1 TB will take 10,000 days at c. 10 photos per day (my current speed) ! What am I doing wrong? I understand I need to not do this on wifi and my upload speed of less than 1Mbps may prohibit a reasonable upload time. Any advice? I'm moving the photos to icloud and not keeping them on the mac to free space (it only has 1 TB) - I therefore need to keep original size which may be a problem if each individual image is large....

Your photos are likely fine, however are you saying your updated your computer and do not back it up regularly? If so then you photo library is not only likely fine it also has a backup. If you have not been backing up, you should begin doing this regularly. Sooner or later without a backup plan you will lose precious data. Apple has included Time Machine in OS X for about 7 years so there is absolutely no reason to not be backing up.
So take a deep breath, relax and let Photo's do it's thing and then learn how to use the app.
Finally, giving idle threats to Apple serves no value. I have asked the moderator to remove that portion of your post as it is off topic and violates the Terms of Use you agreed to.

  • Will the new photos app and icloud photos library support all formats of pics and videos from my iphoto library?

I will be migrating my whole 200gb iPhoto library 9.5.1 mavericks over to Yosemite iPhoto 9.6.1 and then migrate to the new photos app and hopefully to the icloud.photos online. Does this all support all of my formats such as AVI videos in my iPhoto library. I don't want to lose those through migration.

I have this 31% issue too - when I attempt to update my iPhoto library to the new Photo app.
I have a few libraries - one on my mac, and two on a NAS. I access the NAS via wifi.
The mac based library did update, but the two network albums have yet to be successfully migrated over to Photo.
    It's driving me insane!!!

  • New Photos app and iCloud backup.

I have recently downloaded a beta version of the new Apple Photos App brought in to replace iPhoto. It stores all your images in the Cloud so they can be accessed and viewed on all your devices without the limitations of photo stream. This is what I gather anyway. What is not clear is whether original copies of all my photos will remain on my hard drive, or will they only be backed up in the Cloud and then deleted from computer? I know eventually everything is going to be stored in the Cloud, but I would still like to all my photographs backed up on my mac as well!

You can't at this time.  Photos is still in beta and is lacking quite a few of the features that iPhoto has.  I strongly suggest you continue with iPhoto until Photos is officially released and has all of the features in iPhoto that you require.  Right now it's really not ready for prime time IMO.

  • OSx 10.10.3 Photos app and iCloud storage

What does OSx 10.10.3 Photo app do if iCloud is enabled and photo library exceeds size if iCloud storage?

thank you for the fat response
actually on system preferences it says 52.8gb of photos and videos
    and on photos app 70.47gb
when i go to photos app in finder and go to "show package" and then get info for  the folder "Masters" it says   55.45gb
a bit weird but according to the thing you mentioned obviously the uploading process involved uploading specific  parts of my library and not the whole thing

  • HT4847 I'm new to iPhone and iCloud... I have lots of pics on my iPhone but only some appear on my iPad, they're in Camera Roll on the phone but random ones only have come into Photos on the iPad - can anyone help? Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream when enabled will only add photos from the camera roll that were taken post photostream activation. (Photostream does not currently share video)
Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.

    Hi Anjohi,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you've edited photos on your iPad and only see the original version when you import them to your computer, the tips in this article may help:

  • ICloud Photo Library won't upload photos from my PC, cites network error

The new photo app for iCloud.com is supposed to allow uploading photos from my PC to my iCloud Photo Library, which will then be accessible from my iPad and iPhone.  But when I try to upload photos from my PC I get a message that the upload failed due to "network error."  Uploading from the iPhone or iPad works fine.  Any suggestions?

I have the same issue. These are my findings so far:

I will be updating that post as I discover more.

  • HT201317 From Windows7. I do not see my icloud, uploaded photos on my ipad. Service is on, wi-fi on

Furthermore , I do not see my ipad photos on my PC

Correct you cannot see the photos on iCloud. To see the photos use any Apple devices and sign it with your Apple ID and you see them in Photos App.

  • After migrating to a new MacBook Air from an older MacBook, iPhoto gets stuck on uploading cache, it just "spins" forever. I downloaded a new iPhoto app and replaced it but when opened it just does the same thing? What is going on?

After migrating to a new MacBook Air from an older MacBook, iPhoto gets stuck on "uploading cache", it just "spins" forever. I downloaded a new iPhoto app and replaced it, but when opened it just does the same thing? What is going on? Where are my photos now? How can I upload photos from my camera without iPhoto?
    Is there a better app?
    Thanks, Chris

Take the system to an Apple store to be fixed or replaced as the one you have has defective hardware.

  • Under Option Summary, the usage includes AUDIO, PHOTOS, APPS and OTHERS. What are the things included in OTHERS? It is using up my storage space.

Under Option Summary, the usage includes AUDIO, PHOTOS, APPS and OTHERS. What are the things included in OTHERS? It is using up my storage space. Can someone please help?

To add to Nick's comments, "Other" is typically approximately 1 gigabyte.  Occasionally for some users, it gets much (many times) bigger because they have some corrupt files.  If that's the case, it's best to restore the iPhone.
Plug the iPhone into (current) iTunes, let it sync, then choose "Restore" on the right.  If restoring from the iPhone backup does not help, then restore (again) as new and then manaully sync the iPhone.

  • My wife and I each have iPads ipods and iPhones on one Apple account . Should we create a new account? What happens to our iTunes ,apps and iCloud? Can we share them? Will we lose any info?

MY wife and I share and Apple ID . We both have iPads, iPods, and iphones
all our purchases in iTunes , apps and iCloud are on this . If we create a new ID for one of us do we lose any of the data and purchased material or do we still share?

I would suggest that one of you retain the existing AppleID and use it for the iTunes Store, iCloud, and Messages on their iOS device and/or Mac accounts.
Then, the other one of you can create a new AppleID.
You then have two choices for how to share your existing store purchases:
    1) You can try the new "Family Sharing" feature: http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/
    2) Or you can simply continue to use the original AppleID as your "iTunes Store" login on all of your devices (yours and your wife's), yet use a different AppleID to login to iCloud and Messages.
Family Sharing is supposed to be the solution to the problem and does indeed have some interesting shared features.  However, just using the same iTunes Store login has worked reliable for years.
The important this to realize is that in iOS and Mac OS, the logins for the Apple Store, Messages, and iCloud are all completely separate and can be independently configured.  So, you can each use your own AppleID for login to each of those services.  Just make sure to both login to the iTunes Store service using the same original AppleID.
