Yosemite, Notifications wakes computer up.
Just wondering if it is happening to anyone else. I have set my Notifications to Do Not Disturb, and unchecked "Wake for network access", but the computer still wakes up when I receive a Notification in the Notification Center. Is there a bug and is there a fix for it?
Hello scwest,
I have to agree with ExJamJus, you need to do a BIOS update.
I also agree that there is a chance it is your Power Management driver or program.
Here is a link to the Power Management and BIOS updates.
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page
If possible do a fresh install of the Ultranav utility and driver. In other words uninstall the current driver and install the new one from the link above. It is located under the mouse and keyboard tab.
I hope this helps,
Alex

Yosemite Server Wake on MDNS Conflict and Wake reason ?
A MacMini 2014 with OS X Yosemite server wakes up from manual sleep (Apple Menu, Sleep) every night.
Console / Logs says:
Jan 15 08:26:21 xxxxx kernel[0]: Wake reason: ?
Jan 15 08:26:21 xxxxx kernel[0]: ARPT: Wake Reason: Wake on MDNS Conflict
I searched the "interogation point" and "Wake on MDNS Conflict" reasons without success.

Spalshtop is great for accessing my Macs from each other. I revived and old (2008) Macbook that I use as my media centre in my sunroom. Using Splashtop I can access my new Mac Mini in the basement and my iMac in a separate room on the main floor. I have a lot of reasons to access one Mac from another, which I will not go into except to say the main reason is being too lazy to go from room to room when I want something that is specific to one of the Macs.
However, while I can remotely access another Mac, copying files between Macs is much easier with network sharing. Each Mac can mount the other's drive(s) and moving files between Macs is a breeze. I just wanted to reinforce one comment made in the original post, see below.
Two of the three Macs can be asleep and I can still mount their drives and move, copy, delete files remotely while they are asleep. Splashtop cannot see a computer when it is asleep and I have not yet been able to wake any of my Macs remotely. Once again, I am not network savvy and I have NO idea why I can mount drives on a sleeping Mac and play with its files yet I cannot access the same Mac remotely with Splashtop.
If anynoe has any ideas, I would love to hear them. I have not had any feedback from Splashtop support after a month; hope to hear from them soon. -
I'm having problems upgrading from 10.6.8 to Yosemite. My computer locks up after the download and installation process. Does anyone know how I can overcome this problem?
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. -

Notifications wake up the phone screen even when the phone is in pocket or case. It wasn't the case earlier.
Using - Windows Phone 8, Lumia 720Problem - Notifications wake-up the screen even when in case(or pocket).
**I am not talking about the glance feature
I observed this strange behaviour yesterday. Whatsapp notifications wake up the screen even when the phone is in the case.
Earlier the screen didn't use to wake up, i could hear only the notification sound. Only when u remove it from the case immediately after notification arrive, the screen turns on. If you don't remove it from the case, it never use to wake up the screen.
That was a feature, which used the proximity sensor.
Now this feature is gone. I recently updated to Amber, and I doubt this is due to glance feature.
Now every time a get a whatsapp message the screen wakes up.
Vibhor Agarwalhi mate,
as first port of call, try performing a soft reset (pressing the volume down and power buttons together until the phone vibrates). also check the settings inside WhatsApp and also the background tasks in the phone Settings, and re-enable the settings you have for the Glance screen feature. -

I can run any task manually or on schedule if the computer is awake, but the "wake computer to run this task" option does not work.
The computer never wakes.Len,
Other people have been experiencing the same problem since build 9926. We can but hope that it is merely a limitation of the TP Builds and will be working in the final release.
There is some discussion of the topic in MSAnswers as well - see

Hi Blotontheland,
Thanks for the prompt reply. The interesting thing is that my Macbook Pro was upgraded today to Yosemite and I still have the spinning wheel on the start up screen before the login page comes up. -
Yosemite causing my computer to crash randomly
I've had Yosemite for around 2 weeks now. At first I wasn't experiencing any problems with the new operating system. Problems first arose when I had a few USB devices attached to my computer. Then about a week ago my computer (Macbook Pro Retina 15") screen randomly went black however I noticed it was still outputting power to my USB devices. I tried waking it from what I assumed to be sleep but it wouldn't wake up. I tried to restart but it wouldn't let me until I closed the screen and lifted it back up again. Over the past week I've been using third party applications such as Audacity and Vectorworks and it seemed like using these applications would cause the computer to crash. Two day's ago I experienced one of these crashes and when starting it back up again the computer would crash on the initial loading screen (Apple logo and loading bar screen). After spending 30 minutes trying to get my computer up and running again for a meeting I simply gave up. Yesterday however I was watching a movie on iTunes and my computer again went dark on me leading me to wonder if it has nothing to do with the applications I'm using but that something is causing my computer to crash after a few minutes of use (15-20 minutes). Anyone have any solutions?
Whenever I restart my computer my computer recognizes that there was a problem because it displays the window "Your computer was shut down due to a problem would you like to reopen applications" (Paraphrasing). And occasionally I'll get a prompt asking if I want to send a diagnostic report to apple which I've been doing.Fri Nov 7 14:57:03 2014

Upgrade to Yosemite Slowed down computer substantially
Hi All,
I recently upgraded my MBP (mid-2009) to Yosemite. I noticed that people have been using EtreCheck to determine what is the root cause of these Yosemite upgrade slowdowns. My issue is that I am having difficulty interpreting the output file. Any help and recommendations would be appreciated.
Here is the file:
Problem description:
After upgrading my MacBook Pro 2009 to Yosemite from Mavericks, everything has slowed down substantially, including loading of pages in Safari.

Yosemite Notification Center prefs are not being saved
When I choose System Prefs/Notifications and move a program from the In Notification Center section to the Not In Notification Center section by unchecking that particular programs options, upon the next use of the program it returns to the In Notification Center list.
I've repaired Permissions, but it didn't help.
Is there something I'm missing? Here are the instructions I got from AppleCare from an Apple Engineer. I'm not sure if the fix was specifically for my machine or if it'll work for someone else. Follow at your own risk.
1. Open the Library folder in your Home folder.
2. In the Library folder, open the Application Support folder.
3. Locate the folder named NotificationCenter. Drag this folder to the desktop.
4. Next, open the Terminal application.
Copy and paste each line of these commands into the Terminal window, in order. Press return after each line:
cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`
rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter
killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter
5. Close the Terminal app.
6. Restart your computer.
The notification preference changes won't stick until you restart a 2nd time after this. -
Bluetooth "wake computer from sleep" function always on?
Does anyone know if the "allow bluetooth device to wake this computer" option is designed to be always on even when bluetooth is OFF? I have noticed my computer wake unexpectedly due to a bluetooth signal in the area even though bluetooth was off. The option was selected in the preferences but I assumed when bluetooth is off none of the function are on. Thanks to anyone who could clarify this.
OSX 10.4.11 MacBook Pro 2.16 C2DI think it applies to both, and I surmise it's because some people have Bluetooth KBs & Mice that need to wake the computer up.

Wake computer from sleep automatically to run applescript
Hey guys, here's a problem for you to figure out. I just recently learned some very basic terms for applescript so I figured I'd make an alarm clock to wake me up. I'm looking for some kind of code or program that can wake up the computer just like the Schedule in Energy Saver does, but in a more flexible way.
This is the code I use for the alarm clock;
set volume 0
tell application "Finder"
activate
open internet location file "lightningstream.surfernetwork.com/.webloc" of folder "Site Shortcuts" of folder "Desktop" of folder "Nick" of folder "Users" of startup disk
end tell
delay 15
set volume 1
delay 0.25
set volume 1.5
delay 0.25
set volume 2
delay 0.25
set volume 2.5
delay 0.25
set volume 3
delay 0.25
set volume 3.5
delay 0.25
set volume 4
delay 0.25
delay 4
set volume 2
So this sets the volume to 0, opens up a radio stream, then increases the volume and lowers it. On weekdays this works without a problem because i set the Schedule in Energy Saver to wake the computer on Weekdays at 5:51 AM and then have iCal run the applescript at 5:55 AM. But if i wanted to wake up later in the day on the weekend then I would have to wake the computer to get the script to run.
I'm looking for some kind of code or program that can wake up the computer just like the Schedule in Energy Saver does, but in a more flexible way.
Now I realize that there is a sleep and a doze. Usually my computer is in doze because I have a security camera program that runs on it's own schedule. Eventually that shuts off and my Mac sleeps. So i need some way to tell the computer to wake at a specific time from sleep with me having to manually wake it. Any ideas? If you're comfortable with the command-line environment (i.e. Terminal.app) you can use the "pmset" command to schedule individual, non-repeating sleep or wake events.
For example:
sudo pmset schedule wake "07/04/11 20:00:00"
Will wake a sleeping mac at 10AM on July 4th 2011. (And only at that date and time, not any other time.)
For more info on "pmset", execute "man pmset" at the command line.
Why Apple doesn't build a more flexible scheduling function into the Energy Saver sleep-scheduler (or better yet, right into iCal) I don't know, but the low-level functionality is already easily accessible, right there in the pmset command.
Depending on your needs, you could write an Applescript or even a fully-fledged application program as a graphical front end to the "pmset" command-line utility. For example, you might use iCal's ability to hand off event data to Applescript as follows:
- Create a schedule of sleep & wake events in an iCal Calendar.
- Use Applescript to grab all of those events and parse their date/time/wake/sleep info into a table.
- Spit that data into a shell script that runs a separate "pmset" command for each event.
To get really fancy, your application could also read, or perhaps even learn to directly write to, the
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist file, which stores a human-readable list of scheduled sleep / wake events. -
Removing USB wakes computer from sleep.
I just bought a new monitor to use with my PowerBook. The monitor is a Dell with built in USB plugs. The problem is that when i put the computer to sleep, the monitor(like almost all monitors) goes in to a "power-save" mode (where it doesnt display anything on the screen and the power LED turns orange, wakes when mouse is shaken) And when it does this, it stops giving power to the USB plugs built into it and instatly wakes the computer as if i had pulled out a plug. Is there a way to keep the PowerBook from waking if a USB plug is removed/looses power? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check under *Keyboard & Mouse* in preferences. Mine is a wireless bluetooth mighty mouse and it's under Bluetooth I don't have a USB mouse but from this article there may not be a switch for turning the wake up off.
How to use your PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro or MacBook with the display closed -
T400 - Fn Key wakes computer from sleep.
So, is it normal that by pressing Fn Key + any other key (on the keyboard) - computer wakes up from sleep??
Or is something wrong with the OS?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Actually, the Fn key alone should wake the machine from Sleep/Standby.
Nothing wrong with the OS.
Regards.

Unix command to require password to wake computer from sleep or screensaver
Yo folks,
Just as the subject says, is there a Unix command we can send that turns on the option to require password when the computer wakes from sleep or screensaver...which is the first option in System Preferences --> Security?
I looked through the systemsetup commands and didn't find anything.
Thanks!Run the following AppleScript:
set items_1 to items -18 thru -2 of (do shell script "ifconfig en0 ether")
set items_2 to ""
repeat with this_item in items_1
if this_item is greater than ":" then
set items_2 to items_2 & this_item
end if
end repeat
set the_path to "defaults read ByHost/com.apple.screensaver." & items_2
set old_string to do shell script the_path
set new_string to (items 1 thru 6 of old_string) & "askForPassword = 1;" & (items 27 thru -1 of old_string) as string
do shell script "defaults write ByHost/com.apple.screensaver." & items_2 & " '" & new_string & "'"
The necessary plist key is part of an array, and is in a file which has the computer's Ethernet address in its file name, so the script needs to handle both tasks. This change will not show up in the GUI until the account logs out and back in.
