Yosemite outgoing mail bugs

I've had a host of brand new outgoing mail bugs again. I've truned off the auto-detect options in mail pref MANY times and somehow they just keep coming back. Yahoo is especially affected. I'm stuck in the hospital trying to get paper-work to lawyers and accountants to try and wrap up affairs and this issues is making it difficult to even know what's going out and when. I paid for the dependability/ reliability of an Apple product, and feel cheated. It shouldn't take decades for Apple to be able to include a reliable mail client in it's OS. Seems like the new crop of outgoing errors started up again around new years and hasn't abated yet. Tried reinstalling the OS from recovery window hoping mail would come along for the ride -- and got a message that the servers weren't available -- to try again later. Well I've tried over the course of several days -- al with the same result. MBP is about to become "spare parts" and I'm looking at a chrome system for my home with a good NAS server for my needs. Brand loyalty can be lost over time.
Me- two MBP - 2011. Shopping now for new dev machine.
Household - one 1Phone 6 for partner, 1 iPhone 3gs for me
Household - 3 2nd gen iPads- wifi only
Household -1 airport extreme
Household - 2 time capsuls - one is new, the other a couple of years old
Household - 1 Apple TV
Household - 3 airport express units to play music around the house
ME - developer with more than 5 apps in App Store.

Easy fix that worked for me instantly: Click Connection Doctor when the dialogue box opens. Double click the text in details. Click Advanced tab. Change username from "johndoe @ gmail.com" to simply "johndoe". And to be extra cautious, re-enter your password.
This can also be achieved by going to Mail-->Settings-->Accounts.
If that doesn't work, perhaps go back to Mountain Lion and wait this issue (and a few others) out for a couple months. Please let me know if this works for you.

Since installing Yosemite outgoing mail fails in Apple Mail.  All the servers show (off line)  I have checked setting and they are all okay.  Incoming mail works.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Linc,
Hopefull this is what you asked me to do.

  • Outgoing mail failure

I seem to have come across some sort of outgoing mail bug.  I can receive mail from all my accounts but every attempt to send mail from each account ends up with "server failure" and the message is placed eternally in the "outgoing" box.  I've checked all settings in Preferences and they seem correct.  Any thoughts?
    thanks

It sounds like your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is not set up correctly.  I would suggest ypu open Mail>Preferences>Accounts>go down to the line on the lower right of the window that says "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)>click on the drop down arrows at the right end of that line, and click on the "Edit SMTP Server List..."> in the following two available windows make sure all the settings are correct as to Port, Password, Server Name, etc. as stated by your ISP.  Have you already done all this?

  • Outgoing Mail Not Working in Yosemite

My outgoing mail server SMTP does not work now that I have updated my OS to Yosemite. I have checked all passwords and setting to be the same as they were in Maverick but no luck. I have tried to delete my mail account and start over but still no luck.

Here is a screen shot of the connection Doctor. Incoming emails work.

  • Outgoing Mail with Yosemite still does not work

My SMTP outgoing mail still will not work since I upgraded to Yosemite. It worked fine with Maverick. I have tried deleting the mail and starting over unchecking different things and retyping the password.

this helped immediately: i changed the DNS (network settings) to the google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 – all emails went out in the same second.

my outgoing mail is still offline after down loding yosemite

    Hello,
In Mail's Window menu item, choose Connection Doctor, does that report failed for smtp?
Modt likely the port or authentication method if nuser & Password are correct... sometimes the user ID is  JohnDoe, other times it needs to be [email protected]

  • Since 10.5.6 outgoing mail slow ??

Since moving to 10.5.6 my outgoing mail is slower.
Previously if I sent just a simple email with just a few lines of text it would go instantly.
Now the same type of message seems to take anywhere up to 20 secs to go and during that time I get the spinning graphic next to the out folder or sent folder.
Not the spinning beach ball of death, just the normal spinning graphic which I expect to get when sending an email with a large attachment or lots of graphics.
Has anyone else noticed this ?

I am quite certain that I had the sound effects check box in system preferences activated prior to the 10.5.6 upgrade as I had the empty trash sounds activated. After the upgrade, something during the install process unselected this check box in system preferences because I noticed I had lost the internal Mail sounds as well as the sound for emptying the trash. When I checked preferences in Mail the check box for "play sounds in mail" was still checked but there were no more sounds. It seems odd to me that you now have to go to two different places to turn on the sound feature in Mail whereas before it was only one checkbox. How is it fixing a bug by requiring two steps instead of one? Minor point, but it is rather confusing and convoluted.

  • Apple Mail bug...

    Hello.
Since I upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion, I keep having a specific bug with Mail.
After I erase e-Mails, I go into the Trash folder and it's empty. If I get back to my e-Mails folders, the messages I erased are once again there!
Basically, I send them to trash and they get back to the original folder! I'm currently on OS X Yosemite, and this bugs persists! Sometimes, though, Mail works perfectly.
Also, until OS X Snow Leopard, Mail had this icon, that showed each folder being 'updated'; I mean, showed each folder's content being transferred. After upgrading to OS X Lion, that icon disappeared. Is there a way to bring it back? I mean, activate it? Or is it gone for good?
Are there any alternatives to the Mail app on Mac App Store?
Thank you for any information you may give me.
    All the best.

    Hello.
(I can't believe it took me two months to write this...)
I did has you suggested. I rebuild all of my accounts.
At first it seemed to have solved my problem... but, several days later, it all started to happen again.
It takes forever for Mail to get my new messages... sometimes it takes more than thirty minutes...
I only started having this problem after upgrading to OS X 10.7 (currently on OS X 10.10.1).
This is one of the things that make me miss OS X 10.6...
Thank you for any new suggestion you may give me.
    All the best. :-)

  • SMTP Mail Bug?

I've tried to insert an SMTP mail account into my iPhone, but each time I try to enter data, the phone resets to its main menu.
Specifically, when I enter a 'password' for 'outgoing mail', any follow-on touch will cause the phone to return to the main menu. I have two other mail accounts set up and working just fine (.Mac and GMAIL), but this account requires a password for outgoing mail SMTP authentication - and that's where the iPhone stumbles. Has anyone else run across this bug?
[Interestingly, I have a password entered for incoming mail, and the phone does fine at receiving mail from this account.]
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Not sure where the problem lies but .Mac's SMTP server and Gmail's SMTP server is password authenticated.
Reverting to the Home screen indicates an application crash.
Try an iPhone reset and if no change, try deleting and then re-entering the account.
If you are also accessing this account with the Mail application on your Mac, have you tried transferring the account settings from your Mac to your iPhone via your iPhone's sync preferences with iTunes?

  • Yosemite Apple Mail tells me one of my gmail servers is offline. I can receive but not send.

I have 3 Gmail accounts on my MacBook Pro which has recently been updated to Yosemite OS x 10.10.1
    Storage 1TB. RAM 8GB
Internet access (Webmail) works fine on all my gmail accounts, so the servers are definitely online
I am now having trouble with Apple Mail and my main Gmail account
I can receive e-mails OK but am unable to send
Mail keeps telling me the smtp.gmail.com server is offline and I should verify my user name and password
On Webmail I am able to both send and receive emails
It seems the problem lies with Apple Mail
I have tried the app specific password a couple of times
    It doesn't work
I have tried connection doctor and everything is green except outgoing smtp which just spins
Today, another of my gmail accounts is showing the same problem
Is there a conflict between Yosemite Apple mail and Gmail?
It's a long winded workaround, but can I set up a shortcut to webmail on all three accounts and dispense with Apple Mail?

There's a sequence of steps in the support article for each of several possible scenarios of a connection failure in Mail. Please describe in detail what happened when you followed the applicable sequence all the way to the very end, without skipping any of the steps. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem.

  • Selecting outgoing mail server

    Hi All,
I am using Mac Mail 8.1
With previous versions I could select the outgoing mail server when composing a new email.  This option is not present in Yosemite.
Am I wright or there is something I am not taking into consideration?
    Thanks,
    Nicolas

    Thank you Eric.
Actually, I have followed these steps when setting up my email account on OS X Maverics, but the selection of the outgoing smtp server disappeared with OS X Yosemite.
When composing the email, I can chose the "From" account, but on Maverics beside the From option I could also choose the outgoing server.
This way could handle different combinations of accounts and smtp servers.  Now on Yosemite I can not do it any more.
    Thanks,
    Nicolas

  • Outgoing mail message

In july I switched to Mavericks OS. Now, when I'm sending one (1) e-mail to one (1) e-mail address, for instance, I'm receiving a strange message under the outgoing mail progress bar (left bottom part of Mail finder window): "Outgoing Mails: 3 out of 3" or similar strange numbers but usually different form the number of recipients. What is the reason for this? How to fix it?

This is a well-known known minor bug in the Activity reporting.  You can ignore it.

  • Outgoing mail???

I am having trouble sending mail from my iPhone 3G. I use .Mac (Mobile Me, but the update still hasn't come out for us here in Japan) and my computer configured my mail for me. The problem is that my home computer has to use a SMTP server that is specified by my provider. It doesn't know the .Mac settings and it told my iPhone those settings for my provider.
Simple, I thought... I'll just add the .Mac server info, right?
However, my iPhone doesn't seem to remember that I added a new server and I still can't send mail from 3G... Any ideas?

    Hey There JackDzik,
If I'm understanding your question, you want to know how to add the "From" field in the header of your email messages, is that right?  The resource below will explain how to do this.
Mail (Yosemite): Address an email message
    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH19137?locale=en_US
Set the From or Reply To address
If you use several email accounts in Mail, your messages are sent from the account of the currently selected mailbox. However, you can change which account is used to send messages. You can also specify an address where you want to receive replies to your message.
Change the account for the current message: Move the pointer over the From field, click the pop-up menu that appears, then choose an email address. If you set up email aliases, those are also shown. For some accounts, you can choose or change the outgoing mail server.
Use the same account for all messages: Choose Mail > Preferences, click Composing, click the “Send new messages from” pop-up menu, then choose an email account.
Set a Reply To address: Click the Header Fields button  in the toolbar of the message window, choose Reply-To Address Field, then enter the address where you want to receive replies to your message.
Jack, if I'm misunderstanding your question, please reply and I'll do my best to help.

  • SMTP Server down/Outgoing mail stopped working

Wednesday morning, July 1, my outgoing mail stopped working.  I'm using Mac Mail on OSX Yosemite.   Incoming mail is working just fine.  Outgoing says it can't make a connection.I have it set as smtp.comcast.net port 465 Use SSL is checked.  Password authentication.  I have rebooted the router (which came from Comcast).   I've tried unchecking password authentication, chaging to port 567.  Nothing works.

    dougc84 wrote:
No.. Still isn't working.  I tried the .plist edit solution (which frankly, seemed like a bad idea)  and deleting all the comcast entries from the keychain.  I was prompted for a password when receiving mail, but sending mail is still not working.
    dougc84 - I've sent you a private message.
    Private Messages (PM's)
At the top of each Forum page you will see a small envelope
This is the icon for Private Messages, referred to as `PM's'. A Private Message is a way to communicate in private, to another User, Moderator, or Administrator out of public view in the Forums.
The gray envelope icon will have a number next to it if you have any new messages waiting.
To open a PM to read it, double click on the envelope. If you click on the white envelope a window will open with tabs for your Private Message Inbox, Sent Messages, Friends, Ignored Users, and Compose new Message. You can also access this area by clicking on the Username in a Thread or post. By default, Private Messages are enabled. You can disable this feature in My Settings>Preferences> Private Messenger.
