Yosemite Phone call / SMS on older Mac's

So does phone call and SMS still work on older Macs that can run Yosemite? even if they have 2.0 bluetooth. Looking to buy a 2010 Pro but wanted to see if those items worked or not.

Phone Calls / SMS Relay works on any Mac that can run Yosemite. See: Continuity: Phone Calls, SMS Relay, Handoff, and Instant Hotspot.

  • I cannot recieve phone calls, SMS after 3.0 and credit is being eaten

On wednesday, like most iPhone users, i was waiting for 3.0, finally when it came i downloaded and everything seemed fine. But since then, i cannot recieve phone calls, nut sometimes i get the odd random phone call, SMS are extremely delayed or they dont even come at all. I've been looking at other forums for help. I have changed settings numerous times and i can recieve calls and SMS but i keep getting this message saying that i need 17p for internet roaming. I have never had this before. Long story short, got my iPhone for christmas, i used my old sim, mum used the other sim. Can anyone help me please?

yes. I've tried to reset and reboot 4 times since updating. Although, i've just posted in another thread a bit more relevant and it mentioned Push causing problems. Although mine was on (and always is) but is set to manual, (so you'd think it was like having it switched off). Anyway, i've switched Push to OFF (Settings> Mail, Contacts Calendar > Fetch New Data) and it seems to have solved it for now. How odd. The thread i mean is here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9661558#9661558

  • Phone calls not working on mac

I've been trying to make phone calls from my mac and every time I do it keeps saying "iPhone Calls Not Available" Your iPhone must use the same iCloud and FaceTime account." Both my iPhone and Mac are on the same iCloud account and connected to the same wifi network and all the settings are as they should be for this to work. Hand off works but phone calls don't.
I recently upgraded my phone and required a phone number transfer. My actual number has changed to my usual one but on my iPhone in Phone it still says my temporary number.
    Any help with this?
    Thanks!

    - Make sure both facetime are connected to the same account
    - Make sure both facetime can use your phone number.
    - Make sure both options are checked in both iPhone and Mac (Option to use the phone to make calls)
    - Reboot your iPhone and Mac
    - Disable Wi-Fi on you Mac to see if it helps.
    Hope it helps!

  • Handling Application Interrupts (Phone Call, SMS, etc)

I am trying to get a feel for my options when it comes to handling application interrupts in the form of phone calls, messages, pressing the home button, etc. My google search the other day brought me to a page showing a series of events fired when receiving a phone call, but I seem to have since lost that page.
My question is, when those events occur during the execution of an application, what are the names of the events and when I intercept them, how much time does my application have to react before it is rudely exited? Also, does the Home button throw any sort of event sequence I can read within an open app?

Look at the UIApplicationDelegate docs. You will get 'applicationWillResignActive' and 'applicationDidBecomeActive' when interrupted and returned respectively.
Depending on your app there may be nothing to do or a lot to do with there. Pause a game, deal with current network requests etc.
It's easy to trap the Home button. When it's pressed you will get 'applicationWillTerminate'. Then your app exits.

  • New iMac with factory installed Yosemite underperforms compared to much older Macs. What do do?

Very, very disappointed with Yosemite. Brand new iMac 27 lags awfully compared to my MB 17 and even MB Air. Discounting the fact that many apps will not even instal, those that do (and which never crashed before), fall apart on iMac at least once a day (Garage Band, Firefox, SoundForge, SpeakIt!). The most madenning thing is the networking – both Mavericks machines take seconds to copy 50-100Mb files to Time Capsule via wifi, while iMac needs minutes. Even reading folders on network drives takes forever. And sadly, network file swapping is a must, since AirDrop in 10.10.2 is totally useless (persistently fails half way). The only option seems to downgrade to 10.9... Any ideas are appreciated.

    Dear users,
Please let me know if there is a way to block phone calls / SMS from reaching your iphone or is there any application we can download to block them / trash them?

Blocking calls & SMS can only be done at the carrier level, if your carrier offers such service. You will have to contact your carrier.

  • Phone calls on Mac

I really want to be able to use the phone call feature on my Mac. I'm familiar with how to set it up and have it working properly. Here's the issue- the Mac ringing with every phone call is incredibly annoying!
    - Is there a way to have *NO* ringtone when the Mac rings? (just silence)? Couldn't seem to find this in the FaceTime settings.
    - Is there a way to have the Mac not ring at all (and just use for outgoing calls)?
    - Does the Mac honor the iPhone's 'silent/vibrate' switch? (so if your iPhone is silent, then the Mac won't ring either?)
    Thanks all!

Messaging was still working from iPhone. I'd checked to make sure I was signed in with new password on iPhone, at least I thought I did. For whatever reason, it seems to have magically fixed itself, however. Thanks for your help.

  • How do I make a phone call from my mac with yosemite?

How do I make a phone call from my MacBook Pro on the Yosemite operating system?

The following quotation is from Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity
There is more information in the link, including supported hardware and that you must have Settings > FaceTime > iPhone Cellular Calls set to on on the iPhone.
    Phone calls
With Continuity, you can make and receive cellular phone calls from your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac when your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network.
To make and receive phone calls, here's what you need:
Sign in to the same iCloud account on all your devices, including your Mac.
Your iPhone and your iPad or iPod touch need to use iOS 8 or later. Your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
All devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
All devices must be signed in to FaceTime using the same iCloud account. This means any device that shares your Apple ID will get your phone calls. Look below for instructions on how to turn off iPhone cellular calls.
Wi-Fi Calling needs to be off. Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
    Make a call
To make a phone call on your Mac, iPad or iPod touch tap or click a phone number in Contacts, Calendar, or Safari.

  • IPhone 5 and Yosemite, can not send or receive phone calls on Mac

I have latest software on iPhone 5 and Yosemite and an update on cloud, still no phone calls are displaying on my mac or txt msgs... am I missing a step? Can only users who also have iPhones with Facetime only contact me via my computer?

    Hi ravanarrowood,
I had similar problems at the beginning. Bluetooth were switched on on both devices but the hands off was not working. Later I realized that iOS 8.1 was already released but my iPhone did not even notify me. Then I restored the iPhone connecting it to iTunes, installed iOS 8.1 and only after that bluetooth starting working properly and I could manage to pair both devices.
For text messages, try going to Messages --> Preferences --> Accounts --> iCloud account
You can be reached for messages at ... Add your cell phone number if it is not there already.
I could manage to receive the messages from my Mac with these settings. But still the messages are not syncing across devices but I am just receiving them from both devices. I delete a message from my iPhone in the morning and in the afternoon I re-receive it from my Mac. Interesting..

  • Help two macs with identical setup and one does not receive phone calls using Yosemite and iOS 8.1 on iPhone 6. What is going on Apple?

Ive got an imac from 2008 and MBPr from 2013. the imac does indeed receive regular calls but the newer  mac, the MBPr from 2013 does not.
    what is going on apple?
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), iOS 8.1

i got it. I fixed it by setting Time Zone in automatically in both iphone and MBC
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
    Enable "Set Automatically".
Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
do the same in the iphone and it will work

  • How do I use my Mac's mic and speaker when answering a phone call?

Whenever I receive a phone call on my iPhone and answer it on my Mac, the speaker and mic on the iPhone are used for the call rather than the Mac. On an older Mac I was using, when I answered a call from my iPhone, it used the Mac's speaker and mic for the call. Is there a setting somewhere to fix this on the new Mac? When I make calls from the Mac, it uses the speaker and mic, but it doesn't when I answer them. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • TS5458 I cannot get phone calls on Mac to work

I have a 2010 mac mini and an iPhone 5s. both are on the latest softwares. when a call comes in, my Mac will alert me as it should in Yosemite. But if fails when i try to answer. i also get a failure when i try to make a call from my Mac. i have
restarted both the mac an iPhone
made sure bother using the same FaceTime and iCloud
turned off handoff and reenabled it
turned off and reenabled FaceTime cellular calling
so far nothing. the only thing that works as advertised is SMS on Mac from my iPhone
    please help.

I have the top-of-the line 2013 MBP w/Retina that I just updated to Yosemite. I also have an iPhone 6+ 128Gb. They won't "handoff" and won't channel phone calls to my MBP like talked about.
I've tried everything I can think of in the changing of the settings but there doesn't seem to be any published list of setting requirements anywhere. It's all been SWAGs.
The two won't even pair over bluetooth.
