Yosemite Restart Stuck At Progress Bar

Okay so I installed Yosemite yesterday, and it was working well until my mac suddenly froze in black screen, so I had to force shut down by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.I restarted my mac, and now it's stuck on the booting screen (apple logo and a progress bar), I tried force restarting multiple times, but the progress bar always gets stuck at 50%. Please help!

Try rebooting into safe mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
Verify disk and file permissions using Disk Utility and then reboot normally.

  • New iPhone 5s stuck on Progress Bar screen

I just got my new phone last night and went through the steps to activate it.  After entering the billing zip code and last four SS# it rebooted and then the apple logo appeared with a progress bar.  It moved about half an inch and then stopped.  It's been on this screen now since last night and I can't turn off the phone, or restart it or anything.  Worst of all my old iPhone 4 now says "No Service" so I have no working phone at this point.
What can I do with my new phone to restart it or get it moving again?  I tried holding the power button down, pressing everything, but the "Slide to Power Off" display never appears and the progress bar never moves.

The update process failed. Hold down power and home for 10 seconds and release power but continue holding on the home button.
iTunes will say the phone is in recovery mode and you should restore it.

  • I want to restore the preinstalled OS X Maverick on my new MacBook after upgraded installed Yosemite gets stuck at load bar

    Hi,
After my free upgrade to OS X Yosemite
on my new MacBook with preinstalled OS X Maverick,
the MacBook starts with the new colorful Yosemite-Screen
    and I can login to my MacBook-Account succesfully;
but then, after my password is accepted
the Yosemite load_display_line loads to a 1/3 only and the Yosemite stucks at this point.
As offered during my tries to fix the problem on the MacBook,
I had my MacBook checked by Apple
and received the code for "no problems, my MacBook is alright": ADP000.
Is somebody here who knows how
to restore the preinstalled OS X Maverick on my new MacBook
after the upgraded installation of Yosemite?

    Here's how:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

I was also was stuck for a very long time (3 hours) with progress bar at 50%.   I followed Bjerglund's bravery and held the power button down and restarted again.  Happy to report, it also worked for me.   Thanks Bjerglund for leading the way.

  • IMac starts, shuts down - gray screen w/ progress bar

I have a 2007 iMac and it is now shutting down every time I try and restart it.  I see a gray screen with the apple logo, the spinning wheel and the progress bar upon every restart.  The progress bar never finishes and it shuts down.
I have restarted with command-option-P-R - same result
I have restarted with command-S - same result
I have restarted with command-C - it kept spitting the disc out then it would shut down again
I have restarted with command-V and it said something about incorrect block counts.  It also at the very end, just before shutting down again said "Disk Full Error" and "killing all processes done".  I had to snap a picture with my phone to see what it actually said since it happened so fast.  I knew the hard drive was almost full and was actually backing up to and external hard drive just before this issue began.
Is there anyway for me to force the computer to stay on long enough for me to remove some items and free up space?  Like an override somehow?
Thanks so much in advance for the help!

  • Yosemite upgrade, stuck at 50% progress bar

Some guys faced the same issue. But I couldn't restart to safe mode with shift, and recovery mode turn off wifi doesn't help to me. I tried to verify and repair the disk and permissions as Apple Care told me when I called, but not help. I also tried to use internet recovery with cmd option R and reinstall 10.9, but after reinstallation and reboot, it also stuck with some error log file, and I couldn't save this log file to my HD because I don't have permission it said.
Anyone can help me with that? I tried to use cmd S and sudo command could't be recognized in that mode. Maybe someone can help me go to safe mode without shift and let me turn off file vault (not sure whether it's on) or delete some apps.
Or any other ways to reinstall 10.9 without losing current files? I didn't back up.
    Please help me.

This worked for my MBP 17" mid-2010 after 10 hours of minor panic watching progress bar stuck at 50%:
Reboot and hold SHIFT key to go into Safe Mode and keep holding that SHIFT key.
*Patience is the key to the Shift key*
    Keep the Shift key down.
Do not let go of Shift key until you go to Italy when the computer does its Venetian blinds thing and goes into Safe Mode.
Check whether you have any login items. Do this via via Sys Preferences > Users & Groups
It is going to be slow. You are in SafeMode.
    Remove any login apps.
Run any updates for Yosemite (e.g. Pages, Numbers, Keynote) within Safe Mode.
    Reboot.

I've had the same issue and despite clearing the PRAM and powering on and off repeatedly this is what has (at least temporarily) resolved my issue:
I've done this 3 times and sometimes it works right off the jump other times I've had to wait a bit and try again or power off and try again, once the start up screen is frozen hit Command : Option : Shift : Esc and a window should pop up "You restarted because of a problem..." from there you can go to your desktop. I haven't found an actual resolution to fix the problem but this does get you into your computer.
    Hope this helps!

  • Yosemite keeps installing (progress bar) after every restart

I've recently installed Yosemite and there are currently no more updates available. However every time I restart or reboot my computer I continue to see an install progress bar as if the OS is finishing up an install. Since this is happening every time I reboot or restart my computer I'm thinking something might have gone wrong with the install.
Any suggestions as to what this anomaly might be? t

Per PeterVL57 the progress bar is underneath the apple-logo and this process is identical on my two iMacs and MacBooks. Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I guess I was so accustomed to identifying the progress bar with software installs, it hadn't occurred to me that they'd use the same approach to the initial loading of the OS X.
    Thanks again everyone:-)
    All the best.

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Yosemite Upgrade - iMac mid-2011 - Stuck on white progress bar screen at about 50%

I have a mid 2011 iMac.  I started the upgrade to Yosemite about 4 hours ago.  For the last 3 and 1/2 hours it's been "stuck" at the white progress bar screen at about 50%.  I hear the harddrive occasionally do reading/writing, but it isn't doing a lot just a tiny bit.  I've seen others post across the net with similar situations, but no solutions.  I'm willing to wait, but would love to know if it's actually proceeding or simply in some infinite loop.
Anyone know how to tell if it's in a loop or proceeding?
Anyone have any ideas on things to try?
I really don't want to try and interrupt the upgrade, but it doesn't appear it's going to complete.
    Ideas?
Thanks for any help you all can provide.

  • TS3694 hi i recently updated into ios 7.0.4 now i want to fully restore my ipad to resell but when i restore it it got stuck with apple logo and progress bar with 45% completed as firware file is downloaded using ipad 4 wifi itunes 11.3.8

hi i rescently updated my ipad 4 in ios 7.0.4 and for resell purpose i want to restore my ipad via itunes but it got stuck at apple logo and progress bar of 45% completed i tried it 50 times but it stuck on that exact point for hours i cant able to restore it and had no errors it just like freezes at one point i also uses dfu mode but got stuck at same problem using windows 7 32 bits itunes 11.3.8 ipad 4 wifi please help

My iPhone 5 wouldn't start after I turned it off a few minutes after writing this. It went into recovery mode and I had no choice but to connect to iTunes on PC and restore.
I restored to factory setting first, just to validate my phone was okay. For a second consecutive iOS update, the  iPhone 5 did not update smoothly while connected to PC and iTunes - I had to retry two times before the progress bar for the update showed. (The exact same problem with the restart occured when I updated to 7.0.4.)
The good news is that I was ultimately able to restore the iPhone 5 to factory settings while running iOS 7.0.6. I did have a backup from about a month ago lying around and was able to successfully restore with that as well, so the damage done is almost negligible since I had my contacts, notes, mail, etc. backed up to iCloud.
Once I completed both restores, the sync with iTunes worked fine.
