Yosemite Safari Font Issue

Hi!
I just updated to Yosemite and my Safari fonts have been replaced by what appears to be Arial Bold Italics.
Everything looks Bold and Italics, even when I am typing this message.
Can someone help me with this font issue?
Thanks.

I'm having this issue too. It starts this way and next I will see all the fonts corrupt or change to a bold arial font. I'm totally sick of this. Restarting in safe mode, repair permissions, remove caches and preferences and when that doesn't work, reset Safari. Apple needs to fix this ASAP.
I'm not buying a new mac till they do!

For some reason my fonts are with with black outlines (like drop shadows) when I enter sites like google. I have tried to correct the problem with safari preference but have had not luck. Any suggestions.

Keith, I had to reinstall 10.4 today to repair iSync and I am experiencing the exact issue you describe with Safari. I have taken every step to correct as outlined in the discussion boards, did you fix your problem and if so, how.
    Appreciate your time.

  • Safari Font Issues.

I have looked over the forums to try and figure out the problems, but non of the post have seemed to help out. I don't have either Helvetica Fractions nor Times Phonetic any where on my computer. The problem can be seen on some pages and then other others it isn't anywhere on the page. I don't know what is going on with my computer.
Sorry but I don't know how to post screenshots or I would show you what has happened.
    Thanks

    Hello iBod & Kyle,
I have an account iwith Imageshack, however i find photobucket easier to use. Less windoze oriented
perhaps.? What ever it is,[ me?] I do not get looped.
If you are anything like me and are not familiar with the keyboard short
cuts , on the Finder screen taskbar go to Go drop down menu -> Utilities-
    Grab double click that
I usually use the "selection" thus a smaller image on the Grab task bar Grab
    dropdown menu " Capture "
After saving the image image i use a .jpg extension on the end they do not support
tiffs. Link To compose and view before posting it here i copy
& paste the tag]s on to the The HTML Labratory

After updating to 10.6.3, I installed the 10.6.8 update just to start experiencing these font issues. HELP! How do I get the fonts to display correctly in my browsers especially (Chrome & Safari)

What I ended up having to do was open up the Font book & remove duplicates. I knew it was Arial that was causing the problem, so I deleted the duplicate of that font. Inadvertantly I deleted all the Arial regular font, so I had to reinstall one copy. That was the solution. Thanks!

  • Odd font issue with Safari, iWeb

Ok, so I've been having this odd font issue with Safari for quite a while now, and I haven't been able to fix it. Some text on several different websites come up in a different font than the default font for Safari. I've tried changing the default font to something else, changing the text encoding and nothing. This has been happening with several releases of Safari.
Now, last night I discovered the same thing is happening with iWeb. Some of the text fields come up with the same font as the one in Safari! I don't even know which font it is. So somehow these are linked.
I'm at work right now, but I can get a screen shot of the font once I get home.
Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Hi Tom, thanks for the response. I tried searching for those two fonts in my font book and they weren't in there. See below for screen shots of the odd text I'm getting:
    iWeb
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    Safari
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If anyone can help resolve I'd greatly appreciate it. As much as I like Safari, this odd font makes me close Safari after a few mins of browsing =\

  • Font issue with Safari

I've read of others having font issues with Safari 5.1 and Lion, but I still have Snow Leopard and am having an issue with some fonts showing as a block of As. This occurred when I set up Suitcase Fusion 3, but I did not touch any system fonts. I was able to solve part of the issue with activating Arial in the font manager, but some areas still do not reveal font, most notably, areas marked for username/password on forms. Any ideas?  Btw, I do not seem to have a problem in Chrome or Firefox.

Thanks, Carolyn. I use a third party font manager but disabling it is not an answer for me. I put some fonts back into the user folder (never touched the fonts in the system library) and resolved SOME of the "A" issues, but not all. I have no problem in Chrome or Firefox. I've tried multiple solutions in the past couple days, including this fix for sandboxing conflict http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20087102-263/webkit-sandboxing-conflict-cau ses-safari-block-a-font-problem/ but then I got permission errors when I tried to change the file. I'm not even running Lion and I'm having this issue.

  • Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Browser Font Issue

Hi, i'm running lion 10.7.4 on my imac (mid 2011, i7) I have safari, google chrome, and firefox available, but I get the same odd fonts showing up on ebay for example. The font looks like times in some of the menus and sign in area, yet elswhere on the page the fonts look fine.
I think it may be a system font glitch but can't seem to find what is causing it.
I don't have the same problem on my old G5 so can someone help?
    Many thanks in advance.

Hi Bee, thanks for the help...
i did load up suitcase and noticed a few fonts that shouldn't have been in the library, so i cleared these out so that I'm back to the base fonts supplied, that's a total of 188 in the library and 37 in the system as far as the apple site shows. Please see attached image with red rings around the fonts issue areas.

  • Font Issue in Safari after Migration Assistant Upgrade

I just used Migration Assistant to move from an old Mac Pro tower to a new Mac Pro trash can (chose not to transfer Applications) and most everything is fine except for a strange font issue in Safari. Safari doesn't seem to render Helvetica. Instead I get this:
Chrome seems to render it fine. I was using FontExplorer X to manage fonts on the previous machine so perhaps that is part of the problem (I didn't transfer applications and have not bothered to install it on the new machine yet).
I tried clearing the font cache and repairing permissions as noted in this article, but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

Applications/Font Book and validate your fonts.

  • Having Font Issues In Safari After Upgrading To Leopard

So...i'm having some font issues in Safari after upgrading to Leopard....
It works fine on my desktop but not on my laptop. They both run on Leopard.
Also, it works in Firefox but not Safari.
Here's some screens of what it looks like. This only pertains to any site that uses this font and it isn't uncommon, (sites like google, yahoo, and the WoW Forums)
    http://i21.tinypic.com/1z6cwsx.jpg
zoom in to see what i'm talking about, it's really messed up on the full screen
    Font settings:

Another pic of what it looks like on Google:

Anyways...any idea on how I can fix this?

I disabled the stencil font and deleted it. No luck here.
I ran a font validation check and this is what showed up, don't know if this means anything.

  • Safari 6.0 font issue

I have recently updated my system to mountain lion and have some strange font issues. Some sites have a bolded body font and I cannot find any way to change it!

Open System Preferences > Print & Scan then select the Print tab.
Click:  Open Print Queue then delete the queue.
    Quit then relaunch Safari.
See if that made a difference...

  • Illustrator CS5 font issues with OS 10.10 (Yosemite)

After installing OS 10.10 (Yosemite) the font pull-downs do not display the names of the fonts--only the symbol for the font, i.e. Opentype, etc. I've tried emptying the font caches in Illustrator, but to no avail. Anyone else having this problem?

Go to System Preferences/Display and check the box that says Reduce Transparency.

  • Microsoft Office 2011 Font Issues with Yosemite Upgrade

My firm's standard font (Din) is no longer recognized by Microsoft Office applications, as it was with Mavericks and previous. Thinking it was a font issue, I tested out TTF and OTF files with no luck. Has anyone been experiencing font problems and is there a workaround?

And is any difference (I mean in quality) between 2011 Microsoft offices to upgrades 2008 office? or they will be same?
The quality will be the same. The quantity might be different. The special upgrade promotion offer is for will allow you to download Office 2011. Sometimes, to reduce the file size, the downloaded version doesn't come with all the extras that the CD version does.
I think the licensing is the biggest hassle. When you need to reinstall, you enter your license key and then it may ask for your Office 2008 license key too. Sometimes the installer will try to scan your disk to make sure you have installed the old version too.
Of course, all of this is just speculation on my part based on past experiences with similar products. The full version will be available in four weeks. I already have Office 2008 and plan to upgrade as soon as I can.

  • Font issue with DW

I'm getting close to finishing my first site.  I recently went online to test it out.  I noticed on the desktop everything seemed fine.  When I looked at it on my ipad I had a bunch of font issues.  That reminded me of what I heard about building font stacks.  I looked into it and I must be missing something because no matter what I do I can't seem to get the fonts to   work on an outside machine.  I'm using DW cs5

    What John is saying is:
A computer can only display fonts that are installed on it. Anything else will display as unicode characters (looks like heiroglyphics) or if the system can do it, will be substituted with a default font (usually Tahoma or Arial).Try writing a document in WordPad using a custom font, and the delete the font from your system. When you open the document again you will either see an error message warning that the font is unavailable or heiroglyphics where your text was. Browsers don't give any warnings like a word processor does though.
I have over 4800 different fonts installed so the odds that I'll run into something on a webpage I can't view, in the designed font, are pretty slim.
The odds of the average user (whose computer only has about 246 fonts installed) seeing your custom font (calamity teen btn) are about one in a billion. Instead, the browser will substitute a "default" font for it, (usually Tahoma or Arial).
If you are building something for JUST your personal use and you are the only one who will ever see it, use whatever fonts you want. Your system has them installed and can display them in your custom designed webpages. More power to you. BUT...
If you are building it for the web (and over six billion potential visitors), stick to the standard web fonts.
Sure, it won't look as fancy as what you've just designed, but at least people will be able to see the fonts and the layout won't be all screwed up when Firefox, IE, Opera, Chrome or Safari makes a substitution.

  • Browsers (Firefox etc.) have font issues

Safari can't read all web pages. Mac support suggests Firefox, but when loaded the much of the text reads like this ':=@@*$++?aKHMO=^T6'. When Netscape was downloaded the same issue occurs. Since these issues Safari's speed has degraded significantly.
When I created another account and downloaded Firefox the font issues don't occur. I don't want to move everything to another account. Is there a solution?

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems, make sure that the window is not maximized:
    *<b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

  • Font issues after OS 10.4.9 update

Hi, I just updated my macbook pro yesterday and am having font issues now. I noticed the date in iCal is messed up, also certain webpages and email are garbled up.
for example most of the text on this page http://cardboardrocket.com/pages/paginating_find is messed up in safari it looks all garbled. While in firefox and camino that same page looks fine.
On a side note, my startup after updating took forever. After it finally finished upon opening font book I see all of my fonts have been activated. They weren't before I did the update.
    Any thoughts?

for example most of the text on this page
    http://cardboardrocket.com/pages/paginating_find is
messed up in safari it looks all garbled.
No one else is going see anything wrong with this page unless they have the same problem you do. You need to provide screenshots.
But the normal cause of garbled text is the presence of the fonts Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic. Dump them if you have them. Also clean your font caches with FontFinagler (use google to find it).
