Yosemite Sam Can KMA!

Bugs bugs bugs. I got into bed with Apple years ago to avoid Microsoft stupidity.  But now Jobs is dead.  And now there are bugs in my bed!
Yosemite has all sorts of stupid issues.
1.  Word docs open as read only every time I open them.  I have to open them twice.
2.  Shared drive - a mac air - is not recognized in dialogue box when trying to save through applications (including mac mail).  This is very annoying as my entire office is on the mac air drive.
3.  Crazy memory leakage that makes no sense.  I have a large mac pro, with tons of memory.  But I can't run consecutive programs without an error message freezing all my programs and preventing work.  I am losing money because of this!
4.  Some issues with posting data to websites.  E.g. Facebook, cannot post a status update or comment into any field without the whole things flashing stupidly and all inputs are ceased.
This is just the beginning.
I am so disappointed with apple.  I paid over $8k for this computer just to be free of Microsoft's buggy programming.  (I've been a Mac user personally for over a decade, but the law office I worked for was all PC.  I transitioned the office to Mac to be free of the stress of dealing with Microsoft's poor vision, but now I am regretting the outlay in cash).
What the **** happened to Apple?

It should have installed with Yosemite.

  • After I upgraded to Yosemite iphoto can't recognize my backup CDs which were created in iLife09. Ihave the original applications install disk and my old hard drive(I upgraded  to SSD). How do I get a n iphoto back to read by old CDs?

After I upgraded to Yosemite,iPhoto can't recognize my backup CDs created in iLife 09. The applications install disk won't install iphoto because iphoto 9.5 is already installed..I updated to a SSD and have the original Hard Drive with an updated iphoto which recognized the older CDs(thanks to iphoto expander). I thought that the iphoto that transferred with the new hard drive was the same as what was on the old one. I guess it wasn't. I really need to access my backups.   HELP

Later version of iPhoto write to the library on opening, and so cannot open libraries on optical media, as that cannot be written to. Further, optical media is going e way of the floppy disk. Therefore, you need to use a different form of archiving and back up going forward.
To allow iPhoto to open these libraries you need to copy them to your Mac or an attached external disk.
To merge them into an existing Library will require that you use either Aperture (if you have it) or iPhoto Library Manager.

  • I just upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer connect to the WIFI  any suggestions

I Just up upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer connect to internet - any ideas?

I have the same problem after loading OS X 10.10 Yosemite on my MacBook Pro (Late 2008).  Wi-Fi (Time Capsule) connects OK, then I open Safari and it waits for a minute and then gives me a message that it can't load the page because I'm not connected to the Internet.  The Wi-Fi is fine.  When I run the network analysis, it shows that everything is fine up to the Internet; the dots are red after that.  I have another MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) and it loaded and runs with no known problems (so far).  I am writing this message on the Late 2008 MacBook Pro, so you can see that there is no problem with the Internet connection.  It is a Yosemite problem.  My iPhone and newer MacBook Pro connect with no problem.  I loaded Yosemite TWICE, then ran the Disk Utility and fixed some disk permissions but there were no other problems identified.  Restarting after reloading Yosemite and the same problem is there.  Restarted after running the disk utility and fixing disk permissions and it still can't connect to the Internet.  Same problem.  Does anyone have an idea how this might be fixed?  What's going on?  Thanks for your help.
Update:  Air Drop also doesn't work.  Thanks.

    Hello, I have a macbook pro retina-2013.
About Mavericks I could set my 4K monitor via HDMI on 2560x1440.
This I can not get through at Yosemite. Can someone help me there?

They really pushed that it would all work great! Has anyone had the same struggle? Are there any step-by-step instructions to get linked up?
Call Verizon's wireless tech support & explain your problem to them.  They will provide "step-by-step" instructions over the phone.
    Take notes too!
TIP:  If you do call & don't want to go through all those darn promps, when you initially call, just don't say anything.  The automatic voice will then say,  "will connect you to a service rep."

  • My safari and my app store don't open in yosemite. Can you help me?

my safari and my app store don't open in yosemite. Can you help me?...

You probably ran a defective third-party "utility" such as "CleanMyMac" or "MacCleanse" that purports to "clean up" "junk" files. What it really does is to corrupt the operating system and many applications.
The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below. If you use any iWork applications, you may need to delete them and redownload them from the App Store.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

Final Cut Pro does not work with Yosemite. Can it be fixed?

Hi Tom, I don't know if you can help me.
I'm using Final Cut version 10.1.4 with Yosemite 10.10.2 and whenever I open FCP it opens for about 5 seconds (not allowing me to click anywhere) before closing with the message  "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly. click reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to apple automatically." I have tried opening it multiple times and the same thing has been happening over and over again and i've tried everything I could find on the internet and nothing is working.
    HELP.
    Jada.

  • After upgrading  to Yosemite, I can't print on Okidata c5150n

After upgrading  to Yosemite, I can't print on Okidata c5150n.  Oki is of no help.  I am connected by ethernet.

For those trying to use an Oki C5150n printer with OS X Yosemite, the fix is now available.  One must use the driver for the Oki C5800Ldn printer from the Oki support page because the Yosemite compatible driver does not yet appear on the page for the C5150n.  However at Oki customer support's direction I have loaded and used this driver, and so far it is working just fine.  To download the driver use the link at the end of this comment and navigate to the OS.X.10 download option under "find a driver".  Be advised that one must remove the Oki printer from the list in the "Printers and Scanners" system preference window and then re-create it de novo after installing the new driver as the old one will not work.  Unfortunately this means that any documents left hanging in the print queue prior to installation of the new driver will be lost.

    Good luck to all!

For the last month or so my icloud won't back up, it keeps telling me that there is too much storage and I need to delete some data. But I have deleted between 3-400 photos and it is still saying the same, can anyone please help

If they were deleted from your camera roll that should have resulted in a corresponding decrease in the estimated size of your next backup.
If it's still saying that you don't have enough storage to back up, read through this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.  It provides some suggestions for reducing your iCloud storage, such as deleting unneeded email.
The other area to look at is your text messages.  These are included in the backup.  If you have lots of photos and videos attached to your messages, that can significantly increase the size of your backup.  If that's the case, deleting these may make a big difference.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon.  It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN.  Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens.  Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

This is the post that got me set up- I too am running an older version at work vs. Yosemite. As soon as I followed is advice everything worked.
Upgraded to Yosemite and can no longer remote into my work iMac through screen sharing- it is turned on in settings?
I believe the location of the "Screen Sharing" app has changed, which explains why if you had it in the dock it has been replaced by a ?
Don't forget you can launch screen sharing (once your VPN connection is up) by typing in the Safari destination slot vnc://remotemachinename:portnumber  (omit the :port number if you are using the default VNC port, 5900).  This should launch Screen Sharing and put its icon in the dock.  You can drag the Screen Sharing icon to the left of your dock and it will hopefully remain there after you exit Screen Sharing, or you can right-click on the icon when it's running and select Options->Show in Finder to find out its new location and drag its icon to the permanent entries in your dock.
Hope this helps; worked for me.

  • After I updated to Yosemite I can't see my Iphoto library in the attachments window.  When I select Media - Pictures only my Photo Booth Library Comes up

After I updated to Yosemite I can't see my Iphoto library in the attachments window.  When I select Media ->Pictures only my Photo Booth Library Comes up

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I am running a 7 year old MacBook Pro 15. Since upgrading to Yosemite I can not run my airport express' without having to reset each of them every time I wish to use them. I did not have this problem with Mavericks OSX. Does anyone know what the problem is and is there a fix?
