Yosemite screensaver resets to Nat Geo

Hi,
Since updating to Yosemite, the screensaver keeps resetting the picture choice to the national geographic picture setting, instead of my iphoto library. This is using any of the standard apple picture screensavers. If I change the setting to iphoto it works the next time it runs, but any subsequent time after that it resets to nat geo.
I've verified the disk OK.
The screensaver was working fine in Mavericks, the problem has only occured since upgrading.
Any ideas on how to fix it? I'm fed up of seeing the same pictures of a polar bear and penguins.
Regards,

Sorry, i just tried that and it does not solve the problem.

• Since installing yosemite the colors are washed out and whenever I restart the machine it reverts to the yosemite screensaver even though i have set a different desktop picture.

Since i installed yosemite, the some parts of the screen can hardly be seen and whenever I restart the desktop display reverts back to the yosemite screensaver which I have never selected. Do i need to reinstall or what.

Please do the following.

#In the location bar where you normally type in a web address, type about:config and hit Enter.

#If you see a window which says "This might void your warranty!", click the button which says "I'll be careful, I promise" so you can continue with the next step.

The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.

• Screensaver Resetting/Alias Support

OK, so a search has revealed alot of people are having issues with the screensaver in 10.6. But I don't see my exact problem; I have two actually.
I'm using the picture slideshow screensaver that comes stock in OSX.
Problem #1
Screensaver resets to default randomly...seems to be when I leave it at the login screen too long, but not always. It also won't always remember the location of pictures for slideshow. I have the pics located on a nas hdd; most of the time if it's not connected I get the "no pictures in selected directory" error. Other times it resets to the default Flurry saver. On a side note, I have had it change the pics folder by itself. For example, I currently have pics of an Italian singer as my slideshow, but the other day it changed itself to pics of an Irish tenor I also like.
Problem #2
Has apple dropped support for alias folders in the screensaver folder? I change up the pics in the saver folder quite often, so using aliases makes it easier to setup (add/subtract to) the selection without having multiple copies of pics.
I can use aliases in 10.5, but not 10.6. Same stock screensaver.
Ideas?
Music Luver

Problem #1 - /Library/Preferences - trash the com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist files.
Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer. Empty the trash. See if your screensaver works now. Unknown if this will also fix problem #2.

• After update to yosemite screensaver doesn't find aperture library albums

After I updated to Yosemite the screensaver doesn't seem able to find aperture library albums.
When I select an aperture library album (last 3 months) the screensaver is initially able to find this album. After a while and for sure after a restart, it uses the default 'National Geographic'.
It looks like it takes a long time for the screensaver to open the selected album and then it finally takes the default folder.
Does anybody have an idea?

Screen Saver changes on it’s own
Another workaround is to delete the pictures in the National Geographic folder and add your picture there. Hard drive level Library/ScreenSavers.

• Yosemite screensaver reverts to National Geographic folder

Prefer to use my own photos folder created specifically to store pix I want to view when screensaver runs... as I have for decades. In OS X Yosemite 10.10.x, no matter what photo folder I choose, anywhere on my Mac, screensaver reverts to National-Geographic-only option... no matter how often I choose anything else. Fix? Suggestions? Alternate screensaver program I can download to view my own photo folder???? Unless/until Apple fixes this, (apparently this isn't just me as daughter has same issue on her Mac as do others I know using Mac OS X 10.10.x), I'm perfectly happy to download a different screensaver app if there is currently no fix for the system app... I just want to see the pix I choose, no matter how gorgeous the National Geographic pix are there are a limited number of them and I get bored quickly.

I have the same problem.
I have deleted the National Geographic screen saver file in the past; however, this never solves the issue either.
I REALLY dislike the National Geographic Mac OS Screensaver file. Why oh why Yosemite have you done this. We spend so much time curating our iPhotos we should be able to enjoy them as a Screen Saver!

• Notifications in yosemite keep resetting themselves

Having upgraded to Yosemite I changed some of the notifications only to find when I rebooted they changed back to the post upgrade status. So I reset them again when I rebooted they changed back to the post upgrade status and so on and so forth! Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong.
Thanks
Duncan

Here are the instructions I got from AppleCare from an Apple Engineer. I'm not sure if the fix was specifically for my machine or if it'll work for someone else. Follow at your own risk.
1. Open the Library folder in your Home folder.
2. In the Library folder, open the Application Support folder.
3. Locate the folder named NotificationCenter. Drag this folder to the desktop.
4. Next, open the Terminal application.
Copy and paste each line of these commands into the Terminal window, in order. Press return after each line:
cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`
rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter
killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter
5. Close the Terminal app.
6. Restart your computer.
The notification preference changes won't stick until you restart a 2nd time after this.

• I am getting so much email after downloading Yosemite. Reset preferences but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions??

After downloading Yosemite something has happened to my junk mail filter. I am getting 40-50 junk mail messages daily. I went in and reset the junk mail preferences but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions???

There is only one way to uninstall MacKeeper.
Uninstall MacKeeper
Lord knows what it may have done to your system already, or what you may have done manually deleting items. I would suggest you backup and reinstall Yosemite. As for installing another browser, you can install anyone you like that is compatable with Mac. Chrome. FireFox, Opera etc. It's always been this way. You are not obliged to use Safari as your default browser.
Cheers

• Synergy 6500 Screensaver resets problem.

I've recently started using a Synergy 6500 with additional handset and am a bit miffed that the clock screensaver keeps resetting to the BT picture on both the base phone and the extension.
Any ideas why?
Thanks.

Hi bds1958,
Thanks for posting. If you have the Caller Display service, the base
sets the date and time for all handsets whenever a call is received automatically but you can also set manually. You'll find the instructions on page 29 of the user guide .
Cheers

• Yosemite screensaver problem. Constsantly reverts back to National Geographic.

Has anyone found a fix to the screensaver problem? Nothing I try seems to work, including editing the Library files.
Thanks.

Here's an idea for a work around. Go to theNational Geographic photos folder and substiture your own photos. Under the finder menu, select go and then "go to folder" and paste in /Library/Screen Savers/Default Collections/1-National Geographic That will show the content. Save those pictures if you like to a folder somewhere and add your own photos to the national geographic folder..

Hi Guys,
The problem with the EPG should now be fixed. If you are still having problems with the picture and sound breaking up, I can get this investigated. Please could you send me in your details using the "Contact Us" link found in my profile?

• Nat Geo Wild HD - 5.1 audio problem

The problem is - it isn't 5.1 on BT
Have checked Sky and VirginMedia.
Both are not only flagging the currently programme on my amp as 5.1 - and the commentary is only in the centre speaker with lots of effects around. During the ads the 5.1 is dropping off as expected.
But on BT is is not switching to 5.1 at all - other channels seem to be OK so not a receiver problem.

Are you sure? The link below says that it is capable of "Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound pass-through with Apple Digital AV Adapter".
http://www.apple.com/uk/ipad/specs/
Surely that means that, when using the digital TV Adaptor, you should be able to get 5.1 audio, doesn't it?

• Nat geo goes gray and can't do anything

tried clearing cookies, cache, etc..

Did you also try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Use iPhoto as screensaver source?

In every OS until now, I was able to choose my iPhoto Library as the source for my screensaver pix. In fact, I swear that, after upgrading to Yosemite, I was given that option which I chose.
I was originally going to post because, after a few runs of my screensaver showing my personal pix, the source switched to one of the stock ones, usually the Nat Geo ones. But, just now, I tried to switch it to my iPhoto Library and that folder was a greyed out – couldn't even select it.
So, can i? If so, how?

I found a fix for that one replacing the driver with the last version
mysql-connector-java-5.1.6
