Yosemite Server Mail and Google Domain Relay

I want to simply use the server to send automated emails from scripts. I have server installed. Over the course of two days I've have followed several posts:

I've gotten no where. In my last attempt all sasl errors and no mech connections had stopped but mail did not appear to go anywhere. No trace. I stumbled across a post that said ssl connections from Mac OS X Yosemite are broken and just don't work.
Now the real rub. I have gotten the same thing working with Linux in 5 minutes following this post:

Then within an hour my crontab and scripts were written, debugged, and blissfully sending email.
I would rather run this from my Mac server. I understand that this may become an in-depth discussion/debug session (remember the old sendmail.cf day?!) and would greatly appreciate someone's mentoring here.

maybe it helps or not, I solve a other performance problem which is more related to the mailbox speed but this error on client side is gone afterwards:
In Yosemite there is still also a problem with the automatic settings detection in Mail.
That means that the application try's to find a working authentication mechanism in combination with different ports and encryption.
So far so good, this feature would be okay but the application never stops to do that. So we are shortly connected but the connection becomes invalid again.
This leads to performance issues and the application becomes very slow!
If you refer your client log file maybe you can see some "Failed to start the SASL connection" issues (coming from Mail.app).
In case that you are running a OS X Server which is used by Mail you will see in /var/log/mail* /Library/Logs/mail* various login failures. In case that you have enabled the Adaptive Firewall it can be happen that your IP is blocked for 15 minutes.
Of course this must not be a issue for everyone I believe it strongly depends on your email server / provider which auth. stuff is supported or enabled.
To solve it:
1.) Open the Mail Preferences
2.) Goto "Accounts" and select your Provider/Account
3.) Klick Enhanced (the last right tab)
4.) Disable the automatic settings detection (first checkbox)
5.) In case you didn't enable "MailDrop"
This works in Mail 8.1 on Yosemite 10.10.1

Apple Mail and Google Apps (personal domain) - 554 554 Denied Mail Delivery Subsystem (Intermittent Failure)

Hello,
I am having problems with my Apple Mail and Google Apps and I don't know what to do. I have been using apple mail with google apps for a few months now with no complications. In the last week I have recieved a handful of messages from the Mail Delivery Subsystem citing error "554 554 Denied". I know that the emails I have tried to send to are real emails and are entered correctly. I tried to send directly from google apps to one of these people today and it worked so I assume the problem is with Apple Mail, or is intermittent. Adding to my frustration is that it works with some people and not with others so it's hard for me to see exactly what is causing the problem.
Any ideas?
I'll include a copy of one of the Mail Delivery Subsystem emails I recieved - excluding the email address and message body.

For mail issue, I had the same problem. My mail password was different than my itunes password and when I changed mail to itunes password, it started working again. Not sure about the google apps issue.

HELP: CLOSING MAIL AND GOOGLE MAPS

Dear guys,
My 3gs suffer from battery drain caused by background 3g traffic data activity.
Even if I have no background running app, my phone keeps sending receiving huge mb of data.
I've downloaded from appstore an app, system lite, which has revealed that, between runnin apps, there are mail and google maps. Maybe this colud cause traffic data.
How can I close them? Obviously, double pressing home button doesn't show these apps running....

If double pressing the home button does not show the programs in the bar, they are not running. There is no possible way for them to be running in the background unless they are showing the quick switching bar.
What is showing in this bar when you double tap the home button?
Have you tried the basics from the manual or reset, restart, and restore?

Yosemite Server Mail GSSAPI Error

Since upgrading client machines to Yosemite, connecting to mac mini server running Yosemite (server v4), I'm seeing this error in the client main log file:
22/10/2014 12:43:56.579 Mail[7452]: GSSAPI Error: Miscellaneous failure (see text (No credentials cache file found (negative cache))

Has anyone else seen this or have any thoughts as how to proceed? Thanks a lot for any pointers in the right direction.

Messaging Server: mail and mailalternativeaddress attributes must be unique

Email addresses for a given User Directory must have unique mail
and mailalternativeaddress
attributes.

Messaging Server uses the following two attributes to search for email
addresses in the User Directory:

Each email address in the User Directory must have unique entries for these
two attributes. If a given email address appears twice in the User Directory,
the Messaging Server will display an error message and will not deliver the
email to either address. In the case where a user wants email that is
addressed to one email address to go to other email addresses as well (e.g., if
a user has multiple accounts), you would need to create a group for that user
and add the other email addresses to the group.

Additional Notes:

What does “I overwrote the information in Accounts” mean? What exactly did you do? More info, please.
Deleting a mail account (which i not the same as overwritting the account information) causes all your mail stored in that account’s mailboxes to be removed from the computer as well, and you you were warned that this would happen by an alert similar to this for Mail 2.x (I don’t know what the exact wording is in Mac OS X 10.3):
Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.For IMAP-type accounts, this is not a problem because mail is stored on the server. If you deleted a POP account, however, your mail has certainly been wiped out from the computer, not just moved somewhere.
To prevent that from happening, you should have moved your mail to custom “On My Mac” mailboxes instead of leaving it in the account’s mailboxes. Actually, using the account’s Inbox and Sent mailboxes for archiving purposes is a bad idea regardless — see Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty.
If the POP account was configured to leave the messages on the server for some time, setting up the account again would cause any messages still on the server to be downloaded again, just like for IMAP accounts, but this would only work for received mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
If the messages are not on the server and you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may try to salvage as many deleted mbox files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 2.x). Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

Broken Archive Behavior with Yosemite Mac Mail and Gmail?

It seems that with the Yosemite upgrade of Mail, the archive behavior with gmail (google apps) has broken. You can not change the Archive command to select the archive folder. The command just seems just to move the message from the Inbox to to the All Mail folder and no longer shows any messages in my folder called Archive. I have to go to gmail web to view these messages. This broke from Mavericks where I was able to archive to a mailbox called 'Archive'.
Is there anyway to change the behavior of Mail to select the archive folder and view the contents of my IMAP folder named 'Archive'?

When either one of us deletes a message, it is automatically deleted from the other's Mail Inbox
That's exactly what IMAP is for: to sync mailboxes on different machines.
We would very much like to find a simple way to make sure whatever messages get downloaded into our Mail Inboxes stay there regardless of what the other person does.
As far as I know, that's not possible with IMAP. Besides, as I indicated above, it contradicts the idea behind IMAP. For info on IMAP and Gmail see this [Help Page|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&ctx=mail&answer=75725] (click the link) and for info on deleting IMAP messages in Gmail see [this page|http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=78755] (again, click the link).
In your case I would recommend using POP instead of IMAP. But you have to make sure that the messages you download are kept on the server, so that your wife can access them, too. In the following I'll give some instructions on how to accomplish that.
*1) Switch from IMAP to POP in Gmail*
1.1 Log into your Gmail account via mail.google.com, click "Settings" in the upper right corner of the window and select "Forwarding and POP/IMAP". Make sure POP is enabled for "all mail".
1.2 Set the option "When messages are accessed with POP" via the drop-down menu to "Keep Google Mail's copy in the Inbox".
1.3 Disable IMAP access.
*2) Create a new POP mail account in Apple Mail*
*3) Adjust Apple Mail's settings*
In Apple Mail's Preferences > Accounts, select your new POP account and click on the "Advanced" tab. There you have to uncheck the checkbox next to "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message".
(You'll have to repeat steps 2) and 3) on your wife's computer as well.)

Apple mail and google 2 factor authentication

I am using 2 factor authentication to connect with gmail. I receive messages without a problem, but when I try to send mail I frequently get a cannot connect error asking for the password to be re-entered. I will then get a new application specific password for gmail and replace the SMTP password. That will work for a day or two, but then it will again fail for sending messages.
Does anyone know if there are particular problems using 2 factor authentication with gmail and OSX mountain lion mail> Am I missing some setting?

I had looked there several times - and it didn't specifically discuss 2 factor authentication - that is why I posted my question. I had followed instructions and continued with problems.
Yesterday there was a Macworld article posted online about gmail imap. One thing mentioned in the article that is in addition to what is on the google site is that under system preferences there is a mail contacts panel where the gmail password can also be entered.
I generated a new app specific password and entered it in all three places (sys pref panel, imap server, and smtp server.)
At this time that seems to be working.
Will have to see if it sticks.
Google also had a help item suggesting that if the ask for password dialog pops up when attempting to send mail then get a new app specific password and enter it into that box.
Hopefully the issue is resolved. will give it a few days to be sure.

Mac upgrade to 10.8.3 causes issues in mail and google chrome

After upgrading my computer to 10.8.3 th other day, I have been having quite a few issues.
I have a 2011 Macbook Pro.
The first thing I noticed was that after closing the lid (and the computer sleeps), mail will disconnect, and show the triangle icon with the exclamation mark in the middle. WHen I click on it, it says 'Unable to connect. There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Gmail” or try again. The server returned the error: The server “imap.gmail.com” cannot be contacted on port 993.'
When I open connection doctor, it looks like this:
But most of the time, the top light is green and the 2 underneath are red.
I have checked the settings an it allows SSL.
THe only thing that seems to fix it is to quit mail every time after sleep, which is getting very tiresome. Please help!
THe other issue I have is that when I open google chrom (after sleep), the wifi is connected and working but web pages will not load for a couple of minutes after I have opened the computer. And, the first page that I load shows up like this:
Then, the internet seems to come on and I can open a new tab and access any other website. But, for the first page that I load, it will not connect to the page for at least another couple of minutes. Even when other tabs/sites are working, the first site chosen just shows up with this screen, over and over when refreshed, even though the internet is working.
This happens when I close the lod for even a couple of seconds or when I try to turn the wifi on/off.
The same thing happens when I tried using safari.
Please help! This is so frustrating!

In my experience, it may take a few seconds to reconnect, but that's the maximum.
I use iCloud and Comcast, so I'm not familiar with how Gmail performs, but it's related to how quickly their respective mail servers reconnect.
It could also be related to the performance of your wifi router. Is its firmware up to date?
I'm using an Airport Extreme and don't have the issues that you are reporting.

Mail and Google Business Apps - can get incoming mail but not send

I'm using the mac mail client for 3 different accounts - one regular gmail account, and 2 Google Business App addresses that are like [email protected]
2 of these accounts are working and have always worked fine: the regular gmail, and one of the business app accounts
But my newest one can recieve mail, but cannot send mail OUT. I've looked at my settings and compared them to Google's over and over, and compared them to the other business account that works. They are all set up correctly. ALL of the settings are set up the way they should be.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Conflicts, Mail and Google

I'd like to notify Apple that Google is shutting out access to Mail unless the user sets Gmail preferences to allow access to what they consider less-secure Websites. They include Mail in that category, but apparently, Apple doesn't know that. (The restriction is quite recent.) I'd like to notify Apple about that and see whether they have any suggestions, but my computer is out of warranty, and so I'd have to pay a hefty fee for being a good citizen and reporting that really odd situation. Meanwhile, I am confined to using the Google Gmail program, which I really don't like. Does anyone know how to get hold of someone at Apple? Should I phone the Apple Genius Bar (or even go there) to report this? I hate the Gmail site but am uneasy about going back to Mail with the extra precautions against less-secure sites (not only Apple Mail but others, it seems) disabled.
I hope I'm not being silly, either way. Thanks for your thoughts, and by the way, I'm actually using Snow Leopard (10.6), but the Apple Support site seems not to have that option listed.

Can't try in 10.6.x right now, I'm on 10.4.11 & 10.5.8, gMail in Mail works fine here with the less secure option, if you're still worried your only choice is WebMail as Apple isn't supporting 10.6.x anymore, barely supporting 10.7 & 10.8 anymore.
Apple will only recommend installing Yosemite/10.10 to cure your problem, but it actually has more problems.

JRockit JVM Freezes on server start and WLST domain configuration

We are using WLS 10.3 with 64 bit OS and 64 bit JRockit JVM on Xeon system.
The JVM freezes for about 10m when I am trying to start the server. I also see the same behavior when I am trying to create the domain using WLST. Here is the thread dump during the freeze. The JVM eventually recovers from this and continues processing. During domain configuration, the freeze happens when it is trying to write the domain files to disk. All writes are happening to local disk.

This does not look familiar to me. Download R27.6.3 and see if that works things out: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jrockit/index.html. If that does not help, I recommend you to report the issue to JRockit support (see how to below).

Apple Mail and changing domains

I'm about to transfer my .com Domain from one provider to another. I am not changing the Domain Name or the sole email address set up. My emails are imported/exported to/from Mail. How do I make sure that my email history with the old provider is not lost, and is accessible after the changeover?

Mail and Google Mail Problem

After I bought a MacBook (in addition to my iMac), my Google mail got forwarded to Mail on one or the other machine (depending on which "checked" Google first)but not both. I then learned of Google's "recent mode" setting which enabled me to get all my messages on both machines. Unfortunately, it also sends my outgoing messages back to my Mail inbox! I don't need this since I already have these in my (Mac)Mail sent folder. Thoughts on fixing this "problem"? Thanks.

I am not sure if there is a way to prevent this with any setting. You could write a Rule to ignore the send back of Sent messages, I suppose. Also, the only way that the messages you send get on the Gmail servers, is by using the Gmail SMTP. If you use the SMTP provided by your ISP as the Outgoing Server of the Gmail account, then the sent messages are never on the server.
All-in-all, Gmail does a bad impersonation of an IMAP account without being one
