Yosemite showing only Guest login

Hi
I installed Yosemite on a new SSD last week and it has been working well so far.
However, it hanged today (nothing moving, not even the spinning beach ball of death). So, I did a hard reboot. On restarting, it shows me a screen to unlock FileVault full disk encryption with my user. After entering my password, it goes to the login screen, but here it only shows me a Guest user.
The guest user is preselected and has a password field focussed underneath it.
How do I log into my user?
Thanks,
Arunjit

Thanks for the tip.
I was hoping to not have to reinstall the OS again, but that's the step that worked.
(I didn't try creating the new admin user.. I had already started the re-install; I'll try this the next time it happens)
Nothing different in safe mode.
There were some permissions that needed changing, but that didn't fix the issue.
I've also switched the login window to name and password, instead of a list of user names. If this happens again, at least I'd have a place to put in my username and password.
Thanks!

  • Activated Time Machine in Yosemite shows black screen

I installed yosemite 10.10.2 at my MacBook Pro 2009 17 inch. with 8GB memory and switched in the time machine from a My Book (2009) to an Airport (2015) 2TB disk. This required four attempts before the first backup at the airport was successful. However when I activate the time machine, my screen turns black and mac book crashes. I have to restart the pc hard. During the shutting down only an instant the activated time machine screen appears. After the restart the problem occurs again. I saw I am not the only one at a lot of communities but couldn't find any solutions.
It would be great if there is a solution for this bug. Anybody from Apple (or power users) any Ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Eliminate Guest Logins

Does anyone know how to eliminate the guest login in Lion? Want no guest logins (including Safari only). Would prefer not showing Guest in the login list.

    Try this:
Even when the Guest Account / Access is disabled, the login option / and lock screen, still have a guest login.
This is because in Preferences/ Security & Privacy/General the bottom item is turned on.
Turn on: Disable restarting to Safari when screen is locked

  • SDDM guest login, transition to KDE Framework

    Hi,
I am preparing the Transition to KDE Frameworks and as a first step I want to install SDDM, as suggested here.
Some time ago I set up an Ubuntu-style guest-account or guest-login with KDM/KDE4 and would like to keep that in SDDM. A home directory is set up on a temporary file system on kdm start (as root before login dialog appears, see below), and cleaned/recreated after each logout.  I copied it from here. Now the question:
Is it possible to do that in SDDM?
There is an entry "Guest-login" on a TODO page of SDDM at github, which is about half a year old. So don't know if that has been implemented or not. Do you know?
Also, there is a Wishlist entry on the SDDM github site, which seems to request just what I need. There it is suggested to use pam_mount and systemd (auto)mount units in a user-session, but I'm not sure if that would help in my problem?
Currently I'm calling a script "guest-account" (see below) in /usr/share/config/kdm/Xsetup. Xsetup is looks like:
    #! /bin/sh
    # Xsetup - run as root before the login dialog appears
    /root/scripts/guest-account add
    And  /usr/share/config/kdm/Xreset looks like:
    #! /bin/sh
    # Xreset - run as root after session exits
    if [ $USER = 'guest' ];
    then
    /root/scripts/guest-account remove guest
    /root/scripts/guest-account add
    fi
The script guest-account (found it here) looks like:
    #!/bin/sh -e

    # License: GPL v2 or later

Release 12 enforces multi-org. We have the profile options 'MO: Operating Unit' and 'MO: Default Operating Unit' set to our one and only org_id. Is there also a default responsibility that needs to be set to allow GUEST access to an OAF page in R12?

  • Safari 4.0 is slower to show only the first web site

Safari 4.0 is slower to show only the first web site. Once Safari is open, the first site may take 4 to 5 seconds to show, and Console indicates:
    11/06/09 17:15:09 [0x0-0x99099].com.apple.Safari[1029] Debugger() was called!
Subsequent sites load in just one second or so (and Console does not show any messsage).
If I quit Safari and open it again, the same issue arises: it takes longer to show the very first site (whatever it is) but not the subsequent ones (for which it is quicker), and Console shows a similar string on such very first site (but not the subsequent ones). Other examples of such string:
    11/06/09 17:15:58 [0x0-0x9b09b].com.apple.Safari[1033] Debugger() was called!
    11/06/09 17:15:58 [0x0-0x9b09b].com.apple.Safari[1033] Debugger() was called!
    11/06/09 17:17:06 [0x0-0x9c09c].com.apple.Safari[1036] Debugger() was called!
How to prevent such Console message and make Safari also quick to show the very first page or site after opening Safari?
    Thanks.

Not to get your hopes up, did you ever hear or figure out any resolution to this. I have a (slightly) similar issue passed along from one of my bosses, that when he upgraded to 4.0.2 it started causing issues with FTP logins through Safari. He would have to enter passwords multiple times on the same site. So initial entry worked and then every subsequent event needed a password entry. Just curious if this could be part of your problem. I tried to emulate the problem on my machines and only on the one I have the 4.0.2 update does it happen.

  • File data source not found with guest login???

    Hello everybody,
    i'm working with BIP 10.1.3.2.1 on Win2003/Tomcat.
Everytime if i call a report with a file data source directly via url or in the gui via guest login i get the following error message: "File data source not found: <file data source name>".
If i use a login in the gui which have the explizit permision to use this data source then there is no problem. Well at this point u might say then use this account, but - if i call a similar report with a database data source directly via url or guest login in the gui everything works fine. So, where is the point? Any ideas?
    Best regards
    Ralf Kanis

    Hi guys,
I'm running into exactly the same issue. The problem seems to occur only when the report being accessed by guest is a file data source. The only other option I could think of is setting up SSO for BIP and the application issuing the URL to the report.
Could'nt find anything else in the documentation or known issues list that might fix this without having to setup Single Sign On. Any further luck with your investigation? I'd appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks

  • Unable to delete customized guest login

Some time ago I enabled a guest login on my MacOSX 10.6 and then customized it using Server Admin Tool. Now I'd like to delete this account but it's not appearing on Server Admin Tool and System Preferences only allows me to enable/disable it.
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

There is one Guest account that you cannot get rid of.
This is part of Leopard and must be there.
As a matter of fact, if you want to allow any Guest to connect, you must have a box checked in this particular Guest account.
"Allow guests to connect to shared folders" must be checked.
I believe this is also the default from what I have seen on all machines.

    Hello gero1954,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I see that your Mac is unresponsive.  To try and fix this issue, I'd like you to please restart your computer.
    Restart
    Do any of the following:
    Choose Apple menu > Restart.
Hold down the power button until you see the restart, sleep, or shut down dialog, then click Restart, or press R.
If the pointer freezes on the screen or your Mac becomes unresponsive, press Control-Command (⌘)-Power button to force a restart.
Important:    If you force a restart, you may lose unsaved changes in open documents.
If you don’t want the app windows you currently have open to reopen when you restart your Mac and sign in, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”
OS X Yosemite: Log out, sleep, restart, and shut down
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

Does anyone know how to disable the Guest Login feature on the Accounts set-up in Snow Leopard so that it will not show up, nor will it allow a guest to login to the computer?

    HI Robert,
Unless you have shared your admin password with someone, then no one can access the System Preferences/Accounts to make any changes let alone create a guest account.

  • Possible to Have ToC Default to Show Only Top Level (collapse sublevels)?

    Howdy!
I'll bet I'm not the only one wishing for this.  Let's say you're using Captivate 4's Table of Contents feature with a longish movie of Cp slides, which is chunked into bite-size sections content-wise.  In the ToC, though, you can't mimic that same organization scheme; at least, the learner would first need to collapse all the ToC folders you've created so they see only the top-level listing.
This can be a critical issue:  keeping the at-first-glance list in the ToC brief enough to be inviting to learners, yet allowing learners to drive which details are currently visible.
A movie's topical hierarchy could be along these lines, for example ...
    Section 1 - National Brands
    What are National Brands?
Why Are They Important to Our Business?
    Working with Nat. Brands
    Practice Your Knowledge
    Section 2 - International Brands
    What are International Brands?
Why Are They Important to Our Business?
    Working with Intl. Brands
    Practice Your Knowledge
You'd like to organize the ToC to show only the section titles (1st level) and to suppress the 2nd-level detail (slide titles) until the learner chooses to expand the folder to see those details.
I've tried things like grouping the slides into sections in the Storyboard view and organizing the slides into sections strictly within the ToC -- both to no avail.
Has anyone solved for this need yet?
I'm all ears, and you'd be doing learners of the world a huge favor.
    Thanks!

    Hi, Jim.
Thanks for being 'on the case' and looking into this so quickly.  Your
findings are encouraging, although my user base is generally working with
    IE 6 and FP8 or 9.
Since the only thing I may influence is getting  IT to help push out FP10,
    I'm hoping it's more of a player- than a browser-version issue.
I'll test things out by Monday and let you know the results.  Wish me luck!
    Dave

    Dave,
I just tested this on my local web server and it worked fine.  I created a
blank project with 8 slides.  Created my TOC with grouping... 2 slides in
each group.  I turned on self paced learning.  I tried with and without the
widget and it picked up where I left off in either case.  See

I published using FP10 and IE8 to view.  Notice any difference between
    your project and this one?

  • Crash Affecting only One Login - But Not in Safe Mode

I have an iMac (built-in iSight) that suddenly has problems with only ONE login (the other accounts on the machine work fine). The troubled login won't mount the desktop at all, even with the entire library folder removed. Ran DW utility, but that didn't help. The interesting thing is, if I boot in SAFE mode, the problem goes away.
What am I missing? If there's a problem with some bit of startup code, driver, etc., why is it only affecting one login?
I realize my info above is sketchy. Hoping it might be enough for somebody to offer a clue... thanks.

    Hi, Lonestar.
An errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. In this case, it would likely be a Login Item defined in the affected account. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem. Focus on the instructions concerning Login Items with the affected account.
    Good luck!

I have a 23-page portrait-only article for which I can preview only one page.  Normally it is the first page, but if I click on any other page, the preview shows that page -- but the slider on the bottom of Content Viewer shows only the first page regardless of what page is in the preview window.  I'm a newbie at this, and this is my second article; the first one worked just fine.  Put them together in a folio, in either order, and the "normal" one shows all pages, and the other shows only page 1.  Any thoughts?

Silly newbies... I read some of the layout options in Plain English.  Apparently, if the article isn't set to "horizontal swipe only" it's on vertical swipe only, not "optional."  The Aha! moment came from accidentally brushing the mouse so that the preview scrolled upward, revealing the pages hidden below.  Now I get it.

    Hello Kierasully,
I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.

  • How do I transfer an iphoto library from a guest login to either another login or a thumb drive?

I am letting a friend use my computer as a surrogate for the time being to backup her phone and photos. I had never used the guest login before and didn't realize that all the files would be lost at logout. I haven't logged out yet but I need help trying to get the iphoto library onto a thumb drive. If at all possible I would like to get the backup from itunes as well.
I have already copied all of the photos out of iphoto but that doesn't save the time, date and location of them. I cannot access the folder to move the iphoto library because of it being in the guest login. I have already deleted the photos off of the phone so that is a no go.
I've been trying to search for an answer but haven't had any luck yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
