YOSEMITE SLOW, GRAPHIC PROBLEM & MORE..

I have problem with everything in my mac. Safari is slow and lags. I need to w8 much time to open my apps like; iTunes, Steam, App store, finder and more. I have graphic problems, fps prob, yosemite need a lot of CPU and memory. Someone has the same problem? Need 7-10 min to turn on my mac. Will be resolved with an update? Sorry for my bad english, I'm italian.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • OSX 10.10.2 Yosemite Slow Reboot Problem

Millions of mac units have been upgraded to OS X 10.10.2 Yosemite and rebooting process takes 42 seconds on average instead 20 + . The reason is still unknown
but more likely new OS X all fix the problem . It also appears that SSD macs didn't suffer from this issue so it is mainly affecting on regular hard drive base mac units.
you can do better apple ... we are waiting for new OSX...

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Yosemite graphics problems - strobing screen

I installed Yosemite and immediately starting having graphic problems.  The screen strobes on some screens.  This is like most OS upgrades there is no obvious improvements it is just different and cause more problems. There are a bunch of programers at these companies trying to justify there jobs and screwing up all of the users.

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Yosemite graphics problem?

    Hi guys,
Today I updated to Yosemite (still asking myself why?) and I experienced tons of issues. The biggest one is that after updating I started Dota2 and started to play. Everything went well but suddenly the FPS started dropping and I got freezings every time the game required bit more graphics.
I closed the game went to Apple Logo-> About this Mac
and this is what I got
Look at my graphic gard... it says I am using Intel HD Graphics 4000...? Does this mean that its not reading my NVIDIA Graphic card?

Hello, I have a mid 2014 mac book pro retina, same issue. can you all please post here and make this threat stand out more to get more attention from apple? Recurring error: A graphics problem has been detected.

Hi, I have a macbook pro 17" 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo 2007, will upgrading to Yosemite slow me down or create problems with my Iphone or other app ?

Yes, i do not suggest upgrading right now. There is some software malfunction or glitch that spontaneously shuts down this specific model. I upgraded and it was a pain to downgrade and make my mac usable again.

  • Yosemite graphical problem

Hi all, I have encountered a graphical problem for my mbp after upgrading to Yosemite. The computer would sometimes suddenly freeze, and the image on the screen would be blurred. I tried to fix this using disk utility, but in the middle of verifying disk, it had a prompt and told me to fix it in OS X Recovery. When I restarted the computer and entered Recovery Disk, however it could't recognize my Disk. The computer still works, but it's not stable, it seems like the same problem can happen any time. Anyone had the same problem? Thanks in advance.

Back up as much of the data as possible and replace the disk.
Your hard drive is failing. You need to replace it before installing anything.

  • Macbook Pro Mid 2012: Issues with Yosemite update, graphics, and hard drive.

    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)
Processor: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    I've used 192.8 GB
Operating System: 10.10.1 (14B25) YOSEMITE UPDATE
I've been experiencing problems with my Macbook Pro shortly after the two year mark of when I've purchased it. There are a few things that are going on. I recently verified my Macintosh HD disk through disk utility and it stated in red that there was an incorrect number of file hard links & then error: This disk needs to be repaired and to restart and then press "R". However, everything before that seemed to have passed. I have everything backed up on an external hard drive and use the time machine frequently. Another thing that has been happening, usually when I'm opening one my adobe programs, is that my screen will go white for a minute along with unidentifiable pink glitchy shapes that don't move. My computer has not been running like it used to and is running slow, freezing, and periodically going white --- as I just mentioned before. I just know that something isn't it right. I've been having to restart my computer by manually pressing the power button more than I've ever had over the past two years. I always work on my computer on a hard surface in a cool area & my fans seem to behaving okay. I also recently installed the Yosemite update for the mac sometime during this past November too and noticed slower running speed, more freezing, and longer times to boot up afterwards. Please speak up if you're experiencing problems with your 2012 Macbook pro too and especially after downloading the Yosemite upgrade. I don't see how it's in any way acceptable that I should have to deal with issues pertaining to my graphics card. Sorry for this post being a little all over the place.

From your post I see that your Mac is spontaneously restarting whenever you see a certain animation on your screen.  This indicates your Mac is getting a kernel panic caused by that animation.  If you'd like to learn more about kernel panics, including how to troublshoot them, please take a look at the information in the link below.

  • Yosemite slow on Macbook Air

    Help! Seriously....
I updated to Yosemite the other day and since then my Macbook is extremely slow...
It is really annoying, especially because I have no clue what the reason could be.
I would really appreciate if anyone has an idea how to fix this.
Apple doesn´t seem to know the answer! (What a let down...)
Thank you very much for taking your time!
    Some of the problems:
+ The fan is running much more often now
    + MacBook gets very warm
+ Battery drain is extremely high
+ Animations and scrolling inside OS not fluent anymore
I have already tried the following:
    + new install
    + verify disk permissions
    + SMC-Reset
    + PRAM Reset (Cmd+P+R)
Here comes my report, I really hope anyone can help me with that.
I am really disappointed of Apple... What a let down!

Had the same problem, finally realized that the FileVault Encryption was struck at 19%. Speed back up to normal after I disabled FileVault using terminal command - sudo fdesetup diable
To check whether the FileVault is the culprit, go to System Preferences --> Security & Privacy --> FileVault to see if encryption is in progress.. For me the blue bar was less than a quarter with status 'estimating time remaining'..
Then open Terminal and type in: sudo fdesetup disable
It will then ask for the admin password (to be it asked twice), then it was disabled... Back to normal life again..
Here is my terminal log for reference:

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

  • T520 - 42435gg / Sound stutter and slow Graphic performance with Intel Rapid Storage AHCI Driver

    Hi everybody,
I have serious Problems with my 42435gg
Any time I install the Intel Storage AHCI Driver (I've tried plenty of different versions) which is suggested by System Update I experience a horrible Sound stutter and slow Graphic performance in Windows 7 64-Bit.
The funny thing in this case: If the external e-sata port is connected the problems do not occur. If the port is unused again, the stutter begins immediately.
The only thing I can do is using the Windows internal Storage Driver with which I am not able to use my DVD recorder for example.
The device was sent to lenovo for hardware testing with no result. It was sent back without any repairing.
    Anybody experience on this?
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

Did you try the 11.5 RST beta? Load up DPClat and see if DPC conditions are favorable.
What are you using to check graphics performance?

  • Very slow graphics on Windows XP

I've just ontalled Boot Camp and the windows xp professional on my MacBook Pro (mid 2010 2.66 GHz Core i7, 8 GB Ram).
All seems to work vell BUT the graphics in Windows is EXTREMELY slow (unaceptable) when une 100% graphic acceleration and definitively SLOW (just acceptable) when reducing to zero the acceleration.
Now I'm going to install a program (simulator) that needs fast graphics and it refuse to run because it detects a too slow graphics performance of the system.
This one is a new installation of Boot Camp since I've upgraded to a new 750 GB hard disk and I had to reinstall all Windows from scratch; in the previous disk I had no problem with the same Windows and (as far I remember) the same installation.
Is there anyone that can help me? Is there any new Boot Camp version around? I've just upgraded to Mac OS Lion, but it seems that Lion does not have nothing to do.

I would have moved to Windows 7, better support for i7 and of course 64-bit / 8GB, seriously.
I am not sure but guessing it has Nvidia 3xxM (Mobility)
    Verde Driver v267.24 BETA
    267.24
    March 1, 2011
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx
And yes, the latest beta. Though with XP I am never 100% certain, and use to be modified drivers such as from Laptop2go had to be used, I think that is less an issue; though one person recently said they had to use very old 18x.xxx driver on their system.
Windows 7 has better driver support today.

  • 2007 17 inch Macbook Pro has slow graphics

After updating to iLife 11, my MBP suddenly has very slow graphics perfomrance! It used to be able to handle 1080p video just fine, NOW IT CAN BARELY HANDLE 720P! Can someone please help me? What can I do?

Ok, if you're on SL, Bootcamp is probably still at v3.x. Lion came with v4.0, but no matter, since the drivers are machine-specific. IIRC, an Early 2011 15" MBP should already have the twin integrated Intel/AMD Radeon GPU setup, with 512MB or so of dedicated VRAM. One issue I can think up as being the problem would be if Win7 got stuck on using just the Intel GPU, which is drastically less capable than the AMD, instead of switching. Since I have not delved in the depths of Windows, would not know how to probe its interaction with the hardware, especifically to ensure that switching between the GPUs is occurring or at least that the faster of the two gets enabled if no autoswitching can take place. Maybe there's a utility out there to check it out?
Also and to be on the safe side, might want to run an Apple Hardware Test to confirm that all is OK on the hardware side:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

  • Freezing, glitches and weird graphics problems

My white iMac starting having weird praphics issues about year and a half ago. Nothing that was too much to deal with. Simply using expose always cleared it up and if it came back I would do the same. It seems to be getting worse. And then yesterday my iMac started getting super slow and pausing for no reason and then I got the black transparent window shade come from the top of my screen to the bottom and then a message telling me I needed to restart my computer.
After that seemed to work but I still had graphics problems screen flickering and things like this. Then freezes started happening. I reset my pram and novram with no luck. That didn't seem to help. I have 4g of memory so I know it's not that. What hardware could be causing this? Thanks

  • New Mac Pro - A graphics problem has been detected

    System:
    New Mac Pro (late 2013)
    AMD Firepro D300, 2GB
    3.7G Quad Core Xeon E5
    12GB Ram
    250G SSD Internal
dual display, 24" samsung BX2440 and older 19" dell
    logitech mx518 mouse
Apple wired keyboard with numeric pad
external USB 2T drive used for time machine
    OSX Yosemite: 10.10
    Problem:
Every few hours I get one or sometimes multiple errors where the OS pops a small dialog box
Sometimes I am in a web browser, sometimes playing a game, Garage band, sometimes in email, it doesn't seem to matter what is happening. The problem comes randomly and once it does, it freezes the UI solid until it resets the graphics card (or something like that). I was playing Legend of Grimrock and the thing happened, and the game created an error report stating "Graphics hardware encountered an error and was reset: 0x0000000e"
    What I have tried:
    SMC Reset
    PRAM reset
    diskutil check disk (ok)
    diskutil fix permissions (ok)
    apple diagnostics, no problem found.
Apple support chat session (no resolution)
    Question:
Is this  a hardware problem where I should just go get my money back and/or get a new computer?
If not a hardware problem, is there some well understood fix for this?
    Frustrated and ready to punt,
    Paul

The problem I observed was not always directly related to an app being run. It would also happen with interaction between windows (just clicking from mail to a browser, for example). When this occurred, the popup dialog would show (shown in OP) and the corresponding freezes for a few seconds while it recovered.
One time I had a crash in an app was during a game where the same issue happened, and the game shut down with a crash dump. As noted above, the game itself reported the error as "Graphics hardware encountered an error and was reset: 0x0000000e". This was in the crash dump report. So here, the cards saw an error, and the OS reset them out from under a running game, which objected strenuously and asserted down like it was supposed to do.
So I disagree about it being a software problem. I suspect there truly is a graphics card problem in this case. The frequency of the trouble went from once every few days, to every day, and then to every few hours during a 2 week span, so the trajectory was heading in the wrong direction.

  • Graphic problems in OSX with following Crash

    Hello
got my MacBook for one week and experience repeating very frustrating crashes with the same pattern.
After working for several hours with the Book the shadow of several Applications start beeing not rendered properly as semi-transparent gradient anymore but instead as opaque stripes (see picture below). In the following hour more and more Applications start behaving like that.
This goes on until at some point (sometimes earlier, sometimes later) the Systems hangs. That is to say every Application (except iTunes which continues playing smoothly) gains probably only a half percent cpu time (i.e. one crash happened while starting eclipse - after 15 minutes not even 10 percent of the loading statusbar had shown - though the program normaly needs only 5-10 secs to completely load)
My first thought was that this is an OSX related problem so I reinstalled OSX - problem occured again.
So I opened the Terminal with top and waited for the next 'crash'. top showed me an overall CPU usage of 5% - though the laptop was not usable at that point anymore.
Next idea was that there had been damaged RAM in the device (which would explain the graphic problem since the system RAM is the same as the graphic RAM). So i wrote a python script which produces a matrix consuming all available RAM and processes endless matrix operations cycling through the allocated RAM blocks while doing this. After 4 hours of nothing happening I stopped that.
However it has been several years I had my last mac so I installed Bootcamp and run the same script in Windows again - knowing that Windows would immediately crash with a kernel panic once a RAM problem occurs. But 4 hours later nothing happened. Also a test in 3DMark did not take down the computer.
So I reinstalled OSX again thinking it might be something like SIMBL or another app which deep systemcalls. I reinstalled a vanilla OSX (10.4.6) which came with my MacBook and only installed the Applications I mostly require for working (the MacBook is my only computer) - TextMate, Maclipse, MacPython, XTools, PathFinder (the last one for convenience though ).
    And the crash came again.
Afterwards I looked through the Console logs but haven't found anything unusual (at least nothing looking suspicious judging from my linux experience).
At the time of the crash which happened after I took the picture only iTunes, TextMate and the Finder where running (and had been from the starting time of the system).
I don't know what to do anymore. If someone has any helpfull suggestion, thoughts, or related ideas please share them with me.
    thanks in advance.
