Yosemite switches between desktops slow

Hi everyone. I have MBP Retina Late 2014 with 2,8 Ghz i5. When i bought this MBP it has 10.9 Mavericks installed on it. When Apple release the Yosemite, i upgraded to it. But my cousin who has a MacBook Air 13" 2012 (Mavericks) did not upgraded. Now when we sit together and switch among desktops, MacBook air seems faster. What kind of problem is that?  Plus it has a little delay whiles performing some visualeffects such as minimizing a window.

Greetings DanK,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with Multi-Touch gestures. Have you tried turning on the setting "Swipe between full screen apps" in the Trackpad pane in System Preferences? This may restore the functionality you mentioned:
Mac Basics: Multi-Touch gestures - Apple Support
Swipe between full screen apps and spaces
Three finger horizontal swipe on your Trackpad, or two finger horizontal swipe on your Magic Mouse.
To move to the full screen app or space on the left:
Magic Trackpad – Three finger swipe to the right.
Magic Mouse – Two finger swipe to the right.
To move to the full screen app or space on the right:
Magic Trackpad – Three finger swipe to the left.
Magic Mouse – Two finger swipe to the left.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
BobbyD

  • KDE 4.2: Taskbar widget to switch between desktop 1-4 [SOLVED]

While I was messing around with my taskbar widgets, I accidentally removed the one that lets you switch between desktop 1-4 with a mouse click. It's usually found to the very right of the kickoff launcher on a default KDE install. I can still switch desktops with the keyboard, but I liked it being there and can't find it in the "add widgets" menu. I was using default KDE 4.2.1 when this happened, but I've since switched to KDEMod. Anyone know how I can get this back?

  • Slow switch between desktops (spaces)

    Hi all
Just updated to 10.8. I think this is a new problem, one that was not in OsX Lion. I have a word document on desktop1 and a pdf file (or something else) on desktop2. I need to switch between deskt.1&2 quite fast and fluently to take notes from the pdf. But I can't start typing right away in the word document. I know I could just have the two programs on deskt.1 and cmd+tab between, but I prefer the other way.
This is a bit of a flaw, don't you think? Solution?
    Sincerely,
    Helgi

Sure, with compiz you can do a lot more than this . I've installed KDE4 again, but cannot get it to switch desktops the way I wanted. Scroll over pager works on every DE, though it requires precise mouse aiming over the pager. In XFCE I don't have to aim - just move the mouse to the side of the screen (where I have margin set, so desktop is available there) and scroll.
Alt+scroll requires additional movement, which is annoying when for example I do things, that don't require keyboard use (like composing the playlist, browsing the web, changing the GTK2 themes and so on ). I like minimizing things to do to achieve the goal. Therefore I also use cairo-dock, which removed additional mouse click (for raising the menu) when opening the most used applications...
A funny and I think useful feature I found in KDE4 is action bound to scroll over the window titlebar - it moves the window and the user to the next desktop .

  • How do I switch between desktops on Lion?

I had to reinstall Lion on my Macbook Pro and everything went back to default settings. I have 4 desktops that I use and I used to be able to switch between them by hitting command and an arrow key but now that's not working! I've tried going into keyboard settings under system preferences but that didn't work. Please help!!

On a Macbook Retina it is a four finger left-right or right-left swipe.

  • Switch between desktops using mouse wheel

Just a simple question - is there a possibility to switch desktop with use of the mouse wheel on the desktop background? I know it is possible in XFCE, but how about KDE or GNOME?
Why it is important to me - I have simplified changing desktops by setting a 5 pixel margin on the bottom and the right of the screen, so there is always desktop background visible. To switch desktop I simply move mouse to the edge of the screen and scroll - simple, fast and efficient. And funny - this is the main thing that binds me to XFCE, even though my computer is fast enough to handle KDE4 .
Some time ago I have installed GNOME, and later KDE4.1, and tried to find such feature, but I did not succeed unfortunately, even though I spend some time over the documentation and the settings panels. Currently with the introducing KDE4.2 and nvidia-180 driver, which improves 2D graphics somewhat (i.eg. gtkperf gives now 6.5 sec instead of 9.5 that it used to be before upgrade) I'm interested in switching to KDE. Can anyone help me?
    P.S. Sorry fo my english

  • Switching between multiple desktops while using VNC

    Hi All,
Encountering a minor inconvenience with switching between desktops while VNC-ing. I frequently telecommute and VNC into my work imac, which has parallels + windows 7 installed. My personal machine is a retina macbook pro, and both my macbook and the imac have the newest mavericks installed. I will frequently have multiple desktops open on my imac, but I find that when I am VNC-ing into the imac and then open up parallels in a full window that I am then unable to switch back to my other OS X desktops unless I completely shutdown my windows VM. Normally hotkeys works for me to switch between desktops (and still works when switching from OS X window to OS X window), but it just doesn't do the trick here. I know could just configure my imac so that parallels doesn't open up in full screen mode, which would solve the issue, but I feel like there's gotta be a way to switch desktops while VNC-ing! All tips appreciated!
    Thanks,
    KP

    Hi,
This is possible using access restrictions in Universe designer based on user login.
For eg. there is user A,B and C and three connections C1,C2 and C3.
In Manage access restrictions you have to create a three restrictions(R1,R2 and R3): one using C1,second C2 and third C3.
Apply these three restrictions to corresponding to the users. i.e. R1-->A,R2-->B and R3-->C.
So based on user login the instance will be used for same report.
In IDT , I think this can be done using Data Level Security, but the concept wil be same.
    Thanks

  • How to prevent Microsoft word from switching which desktop I am on?

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro, OSX Version 10.9.2 as well as microsoft word for mac 2011 (the most recent update). I have had an issue for a number of years where when I have microsoft word open in one desktop and am using another application in another desktop, I will automatically jump back to the desktop with microsoft word without doing anything. I am then forced to switch between desktops back to the desktop I was on before. It's obviously pretty obnoxious. Does anyone know a fix for this? I tried searching for an answer, and tried unchecking "...switch to a space with open windows of that application" in System Prefences. But the problem persists, and I don't mind switching desktops when I click on an app I actually want to use.

You need to install Office on the computer from the installer DVD or disc image you purchased.

  • Switch between Windows in Mission Control

What is the shortcut to switch between windows, add a Space or delete a space in Mission Control?
I bring Mission Control with CONTROL - UP. However, once I see all windows, I cannot choose the application with a keyboard shortcut, nor add or delete a space with a keyboard shortcut.
    Any ideas?

Control  right/left arrow or control space number will switch between Desktops.
Tom delete a Desktop, select it and an X should appear in the top left corner of the Desktop.
To add a Desktop, slide the cursor to the top right corner and a + sign should appear.

  • Windows stuck "between" desktops

I am trying to open a new finder window with two desktops active.  The window doesn't appear on either desktop, but does appear briefly when switching between desktops using Control arrowkey.    I've had this happen with programs as well.  I had Spaces active when I did my upgrade and this is like "ghost" spaces, stuck in the netherworld of cyberspace.  Sorry, I'm showing my love for scifi.  How do I fix this?

I've seen this a few times when Finder was assigned to "all desktops".  If this is the case, right click (cntl click) the dock icon > options > assign to none.

  • White box appears while switching between two desktops

    Hello all,
Since few weeks I have a problem when I switch between two Desktops. Everytime I switch between them a white box appears in the left corner of my screen (see screenshot).

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • When frequently switching between mobile and desktop view

When I frequently switching between mobile and desktop view I have to open the layers every time since they get closed/collapsed. Adobe may need to fix it for the next version.

You can use CTRL+# to switch between Code and Design View.
By the way, this is the Dreamweaver Application Development forum which deals with questions about using server-side scripting languages like PHP or ColdFusion. General Dreamweaver questions should be posted in the regular Dreamweaver General Discussions forum.
And while I´m at it: please use descriptive headlines such as "how to switch between Code and Design View" for your posts -- mentioning your screen name "Goula129" is not helpful to other users.

  • How can I switch between multiple windows of the same application (e.g. Safari) over several desktops ?

    Hi All,
I have one application, for example safari, open and running with multiple windows (with or without tabs) spread over several desktops.
How can I switch between the windows only via keyboard? CMD+> and CMD+< let me only swicht between windows open on the one desktop I am currently looking at.
    thanks for your replies,
    equi

    Barney,
many thanks for your efforts and your time (preparing and posting the screenshot, answering to this question,...).
Unfortunately, moving the focus to the next window only works with windows on the same desktop.
btw, using a german keyboard layout and german language settings the shortcut is "cmd+<".
I can switch with this shortcut between different windows of my Safari which reside on the same desktop, but I cannot swith between different safari windows distributed over several desktops.
    Thanks,

  • Switching between scripts in Advanced actions very slow on Mac OS X

    Hi,
I've been experiencing a problem with Captivate taking an inordinate amount of time (approx 30-40 seconds) to switch between scripts in the Advanced Actions window. This happens incrementally as create/duplicate scripts and switch from one to the other. After switching about 4 to 5 times, the wait extends to 30-40 seconds. The rest of Captivate is unaffected, i.e. no delay issues when adding statements to a script, or working with other features in Captivate. I called Adobe Support but they said it is the first time they heard about this issue, although they seemed to suggest that Captivate is "slower" on the Mac. For comparison's sake, and to check if there was anything wrong with the project file itself, I tried using a trial version on a PC running Windows XP (using the same project file) and I experienced no issues, and switching between scripts remained constantly quick even after several hours working on a project.
This particular project requires a lot of scripting and this issue has ground my productivity down to a halt having to wait 30-40seconds just to switch between scripts. Adobe suggesting "removing programs" from the Mac to speed up affairs, but I don't think there is anything wrong with the machine as it runs other Adobe software, like InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat without any issues. In addition, while the switching is being processed, OS X doesn't hang. I am perfectly able to switch to other applications, or load new ones, which indicates that Captivate is not hogging all the resources.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue before, and if so if a solution/workaround has been identified?
    Thanks!

  • How Do I Quickly Switch between Fusion and the Mac Desktops?

How do I quickly switch between the two desktops? Also, is there any benefit to quitting Windows before I get out of Fusion?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Command Tab will switch between the two desktops. If you don't quit Windows beofre closing Fusion you are suspending Windows. IMHO this isn't as clean as closing it. I have found closing Windows before closing Fusion makes my system more stable.
