Yosemite System menubar icons stuck in Dark Mode?

After a restart, all of my System menubar icons and some my application menubar icons are stuck in dark mode?  All of the OS X System icons are stuck! I don't use dark mode, never have. I have no idea how this happened. Just another Yosemite cluster, I guess. Any help will  be greatly appreciated.

Try   Start up in Safe Mode.

  • Yosemite Dark Mode app icons

Some app icons don't display in the toolbar correctly when in Dark Mode and was wondering if there is a solution...
Google Music Manager is impossible to see unless you click the toolbar icon - is there a fix for this?
Google Drive is the same but I've downloaded an AppleScript which someone custom made which requires editing the PNG files
however, the Google Music Manager doesn't have any PNG files in its Resource folder.

Still waiting for Automator's cogwheels to work in dark mode in 10.10.2.
DIY editing of menu bar icons for dark mode works without issues for some apps (having made backup copies first):
    Box Sync - menubar_idle.png
    OneDrive - StatusIcon_signedin.tiff
    Hamachi - status_online.png
    ScreenSharingMenulet - ScreenSharingMenulet.tif
    Flux - flux-icon-mono4.tiff
All the above found in the Resources folders inside the apps themselves.

  • OS X Yosemite "Dark Mode" problem

I have been using OS X Yosemite's "Dark Mode" since Yosemite was first released. It was behaving perfectly fine until last Monday (Jan 26, 2015), but now, every time I restart my Macbook or wake it up from sleep, "Dark Mode" is disabled. To re-enable it, all I have to do is go back into my System Preferences, but its just a weird glitch, and I was wondering if maybe anyone know how to fix it? I am using a Mid-2012 13.3" i5 non-retina Macbook Pro running Yosemite with all of the most current updates. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Do you use an app called Flux? if yes, then you might have to remove this app. Check this thread: Dark mode keeps resetting to normal mode

  • What (and where) is Yosemite's "dark mode"?

I've encountered references to Yosemite's "dark mode" but I don't know what it is or how to activate it (and Mac Help makes no mention of it - someone at Apple please take note (yeah, right)).
Can someone enlighten me (or endarken me, as the case may be)? What is it, how do I activate it, and how did the people who know the answers to these questions find them out? I was never told...
    Thanks...

The only actual purpose I can think of for dark mode is for folks who want the entire interface to have a consistent look when using pro apps from Adobe, Apple and other sources who all have the idea that a pro app should have a dark gray design. As if somehow that makes it work any differently. So as an example, this is how Premiere Pro looks under Mavericks:
Boy, that gray bar on top really bugs me. If only there were a way to make it a dark gray to match everything else. In Yosemite, now there is.
Otherwise, it's just for folks who like the Goth look, or whatever. But no matter how you want to look at it, it's a simple preference choice for the user who wants a bit of a different look. That's about all.

Yes, a message pops up on the computer that says..."The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. (3014)" I tried to research this and tried all of the things Apple suggested but still am not having any luck with it. Thanks for any assistance you may provide!

  • My (relatively) new MBP is stuck in restart mode.  "your computer is already restarting" HELP PLEASE.

I have noticed when I restart my computer, the finder gets stuck and there are no icons on my desktop.  If I restart, they will usually come back.
I am still paying off my MBP which cost nearly 2k.  I was going to upgrade to Apple Care as soon as it's paid off next month.  Unfortunately, the 90  day "complimentary" phone support expired last month and my MBP is now stuck in restart mode.  If i click on the keyboard restart button, I get "Your computer is already restarting".  It's been like this for 15 minutes so it looks stuck.
    Can someone please help?

If I click on itunes or mail, it cancels the restart but still no icons on desktop and still unable to restart or shut down.
Please help, someone.  I don't know how to restart this thing...
I'm on Mavericks if that helps (I also had upgraded to Yosemite and had audio interface problems so reverted back to a TM backup which is when this started)
If I attempt the command + R, the computer will make this clicking noise over and over...
It's clearly stuck.  What can I do?

Ok, details of installation below, so when I try compose an email, I just get a compose window icon stuck in the windows
taskbar can't actually enlarge it and use it. If I restart in safe mode with all addons disabled, then it works fine. But
If I restart normally and manually disable addons/plugins, then close and start normally again i.e not safe mode, it
breaks, so does not seem to be an addon or plugin but rather something with the configuration.

  • BIG problems with iOS 8.2 Safari ("dark mode" menu bar, no auto-fill, etc)... HELP, please?

So I was simply wiping the dust off my screen, with Safari open, and once I had finished... Safari just went belly-up.
And I need some help badly.
First thing that I noticed was that Safari now has a "dark mode" menu bar.
Secondly, my auto-fill user names and passwords no longer "auto-fill" - I have to place the cursor in a field and have the keyboard pop up in order to access the auto-fill function: previously, the fields simply, well, auto-filled.
And, thirdly, when I attempt to post a message to the Apple Support Communities, there is no visible text in the body of the text. I'm using my MacBook Pro to type this message.
I have searched and searched to try to find remedies to my problems, but I can't find a thing. There's nothing unusual in Accessibility (that would make the whole screen, for example, grayscale), nothing changed in passwords, etc.
I'm at my wits end! Even restoring from an older backup doesn't remedy any of the problems.
    Can anyone help?

If the menu bar at the top of Safari show white text on a grey background, and autofill isn't working, then you probably have private browsing 'on'. Tap the icon top right of the Safari screen (the square on top of a second square), tap the Private button at the top of the next screen and then Done - Safari should then go back to its normal colours and autofill should work again

  • Macbook Pro 17" (Mid-2009) Randomly Getting Stuck in Sleep Mode when Unplugged

Hey guys, this is my first time posting so please excuse me if I do anything wrong. Here's the issue:
I have a Macbook Pro 17" (Mid-2009) that has had an issue with the whole computer shutting down at random, but only when unplugged from the MagSafe power adapter. Upon scouring all the forums and discussions I could, I haven't found anyone with the same exact circumstances as myself, hence this post. Let me explain.
Many say it's a battery issue. That can't be, because this has been happening for months, and after I finally got my laptop repaired a few days ago, it still occurs. I had sent it in for a logic board failure, but consented them to fix any other parts that weren't functioning properly. Upon the return of my machine, I found that they installed a fresh hard drive, new battery, new logic board, and a new speaker on the right side. This must mean that neither the logic board nor the battery are the issue.
What else can this point to? Again, it only occurs when the Mac is unplugged from a power source, and it doesn't totally shut down. It goes half way, essentially stuck in sleep mode. The white indicator light on the front freezes, and the power button has to be held to fully turn the laptop off, then pressed again to reboot. It can last anywhere from a single minute to a few hours before shutting off again, and it's always the exact same circumstance, no matter what kind of computing I'm doing at the time.
Note that while no one else has found the solution to lie within resetting the PRAM or SMC (in the discussions I read), I still need to try that tonight and see if it affects anything.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sean

Macs are having problems with SSD drives. The root cause is the OS X journaling file system. The Apple-written SATA controller driver can saturate the bus at times, inhibiting performance. Some manufactures are even selling special "Mac" versions of their SSD drives that are slowed down on purpose to compensate for this problem. Unfortunately, the problem still exists in Snow Leopard, from what I've read.
Also, I read that Apple has secretly slowed the recent new laptops down (3.0GB/s to 1.5GB/s) to compensate for the problem.

  • MacBook Pro stuck in sleep mode: can't restart or shut down, black screen

I'm running the latest version of Snow Leopard on my mid-2009 MacBook Pro Unibody. After installing the latest Software Update, including a Firmware update for my SuperDrive, the following problem has occurred, for the very first time:
I closed the lid of my laptop for the night, as I do routinely every night, thus putting my MBP to sleep. I leave the various apps open, usually Firefox, iTunes and Entourage. The next morning my MBP felt hot and the screen remained black... it would not change. After repeatedly trying and failing to clear the black screen and bring my apps up, I held the power button down to do a complete Shut Down. My system turned off, but did not do an actual Shut Down. When I press the power button to turn it on, it comes right back into sleep mode with the screen remaining black. I cannot seem to force either a Shut Down or a Restart. I unplugged all peripherals and the power cord, let my MBP cool down completely--for a couple of hours-- and tried everything again. Still no change: I'm stuck in sleep mode with a black screen. I've also tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC, but neither works, probably because I'm not coming from a Shut Down. Is anybody else having this problem? Anyone have any suggestions? I think the problem must be somehow related to the latest update, but whatever it is, I'd like to resolve it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't get into my system to see my update version, but I'm certain I'm running the most up-to-date version of Snow Leopard and all other latest updates applicable to my mid-2009 MBP, as I run Software Update routinely. I thoroughly completed all update installations, including the SuperDrive Firmware update, followed all instructions meticulously, including rebooting, and actually used my system for at least one full day without any problems. I'd even recently repaired all permissions. Everything was "humming" along very well. This problem came totally out of the blue. Because the screen is black, I can't actually see what's on it; however, I've put my MBP to sleep every night by closing the lid and it awakens in the morning when I raise the lid. This time the sleep light indicator is on, but nothing happens when I lift the lid, touch the track pad or a key. If I hold the power button down briefly, the sleep light goes out, but when I press the power button again, the light comes right back on. If I depress the power button for several seconds, to initiate a shutdown or restart, it simply shuts off the fan and refuses to completely shut down. This is evidenced by the fact that depressing the power button to start up brings the sleep light on very quickly. I can tell by the way the system sounds that it is on behind the blackened screen. Sorry I can't get you the update versions.
    Thanks

  • Recover photos from iPad 2 that's stuck in recovery mode (no backup)

My iPad 2 is stuck in recovery mode (genius bar can't get it out). This happened while I was on vacation and unfortunately some of the videos and photos are not backed up/synced. Before I "restore" through itunes (and erase everything), is there any way to rescue the photos and videos?  I've googled third party software and it doesn't look like anything will let you back up your data while the device is in recovery mode.
If I can't rescue anything while the device is in recovery mode, does anyone know if there's a way to retrieve photos from the device directly (not through itunes or icloud) *after* a "restore" (which has wiped the device)?  I don't care about anything else on it and I don't care if it has to be put on another device (computer, thumbdrive, etc).  The guy at the genius bar said you can't, but I see there are software programs (unfamiliar to me) that promise to do that.  I don't know if they really work, though.  I wish I understood whether the "restore" process really has the ability to permanently delete photos on the device or whether the photos remain there, but are inaccessible.
I know it's a longshot and it's my own fault for not backing up, but before I do anything irreversible I want to be sure I've exhausted the possibilities.  I'm willing to pay for a program/service to retrieve the photos but I am not sure if there's anything out there that will work.
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

No doubt this is too late for you, but it might help others.  My 2 1/2 year old iPad 2 running iOS 7.1.1 (I believe) just started having the same problem last night. Til now, it's been running fine with iOS 7, though the battery life seems to be shorter than with iOS 6 & before.  Right now, the iPad just keeps recycling through the startup procedure, white apple icon on black screen, then black screen, repeated indefinitely. Tried everything.  Google searches gave me this thread/result, that I have to go through the recovery process, and thereby lose all my unsaved photos (my most recent backup is a month old), and others that say I might be able to recover files if I connect to a Windows machine.  But I only have Macs.   I was about to do the hard reset, recovery procedure, when it occurred to me to just open iPhoto & see if it recognized the iPad.  It did--even though iTunes doesn't-- it showed me all of the photos, including the one's between my last iPad backup and now, AND I was able to successfully download all of the photos.  YMMV, but this worked for me.
