Yosemite Unable to Install: Couldnt complete copy.

When trying to install Yosemite Upgrade. it starts to load on screen and then I get error.
OS X Could not be installed on your computer. Couldn't complete copy. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.
I had done this three times and also re downloaded the install and still same response.
Please can anyone help, I am running a Late 2011 Macbook Pro which is running OS X Lion (had to reboot 2 months ago as files were corrupt during apple upgrade)
Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated
Thanks

Hi sheldon171,
Welcome to the Apple Support Community!
I understand that situations like this can be very frustrating. If you are continuing to receive this type of error, I would suggest the steps located in the attached article.
Installer reports "OS X could not be installed on your computer" or "This disk cannot be used to start up your computer"

  • OS X Yosemite unable to install

I download os x yosemite. When prompted to restart my MacBook pro I did so. The install will not go through. I get to about 22 minutes remaining then I'm left with this message.
OS X could not be installed on your computer
Fail system verify or repair failed.
Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.
Now there is a loop of OS X Yosemite trying to install itself with no luck.
    Please help me! Thank you.

See if you can do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion or Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Unable to install a zone: Copying 0 files to the zone.

    Hi forum users,
I really hope someone has any idea what could be wrong here.
First of all, the server is patched with security and recommended patches, except for 118344-13 -> R-- SunOS 5.10_x86: Fault Manager Patch which I will install on the next maintenance day. It already has 4 zones running without problem.
However when I try to install a new zone now it always fails.
    # zoneadm -z blah install
    Preparing to install zone <blah>.
Creating list of files to copy from the global zone.
Copying <0> files to the zone.

ERROR: cannot create zone boot environment <blah>
zoneadm: zone 'blah': '/usr/lib/lu/lucreatezone' failed with exit code 74.
To me it seems obvious that the problem lies in the fact that it doesnt even copy a single file to the configured zone, therefor it can't install any packages and all the rest fails too. The big question of course is, why does it think it only needs to copy 0 files? Has anyone encountered such a problem before? I havent found anything yet on patches breaking zoneadm install but might have missed it.
Does it looks like a HD corruption?Might be since the Sun Management Console agent does seem to freeze on that server too once in a while.

All the packages are fine in the global zone, pkginfo -l tells me the packages are complete.
I did try the truss wrap but it gives me so much info it is hard for me to figure out if something is wrong. The only error i think that returns often and that is not resolved is:
    ioctl(4, TCGETA, 0x080471E4) Err#25 ENOTTY
    ioctl(4, TCGETA, 0x08047294) Err#22 EINVAL
The part where it seems to compile a list of files to copy however is very empty of truss entries:
    Preparing to install zone <gal2en-survey>.
Creating list of files to copy from the global zone.
Copying <0> files to the zone.
    Initializing zone product registry.
    Determining zone package initialization order.
    read(4, 0x0806DD3C, 5120) (sleeping...)
ERROR: package <SUNWcsu> is not complete: skipping installation of package
This issue is still unresolved for me. For now the only way to create a new zone on that server is to manually copy all files from another zone, editing the zonecfg entry and net config files for the zone, then i can boot and run it.

  • I am unable to install the complete MediaSmart Suite I once had before HDD fail.

My HDD failed a while ago, so i replaced it and installed all the required driver ect. needed for my notebook. Recently i wanted to install the mediasmart package i once had when I purchased the laptop. Upon doing so, I am unable to get it to install properly, as in such things like pandora wont work. I dont have all the options I once had when i purched the laptop like the DVD burner and such. I downloaded all the drivers for these programs, but only am able to install one thing and if i try to install another program, it uninstalls the one already on my pc.
Is there a suite or all in one package i can install all of the programs in one go or something.
If all else fails, i would just like to have the pandora program to work and thats it as i have other music programs on my pc.
    thanks in advance.

  • Just completed a clean install of CS6 Photoshop on my Yosemite Mac Book Pro and the Adobe Application Manager does not work and cannot install a fresh copy from Adobe

Just re-installed a fresh copy of CS6 Photoshop on my Yosemite Mac Book Pro and somehow the Adobe Application Manager does not work and therefore cannot verify my copy.  What should I do?
I get a message saying that Adobe Application Manager may be damaged and that I should install a new version of AAM.  But after downloading a fresh copy of AAM and doing the install, the program (AAM) still will not install.  It is like an infinite loop!
    Please, someone help!
    Thanks!

    HI gener7!
I'm sorry but I am not on Creative Cloud.  I'm still on CS6 and it was the Adobe Application Manager that wasn't working and I could not install the update to this application.  My AAM version is:  8.0.0160
The link you provided was the update that I wanted to install but it does not work.  A window shows up during that install that says:
    We've encountered the following issues.
Installer failed to initialize.  Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem.
and then the link to the Adobe Support Advisor which leads to a "Adobe Support Advisor has been discontinued" page.
    Thanks!

  • I just updated to lastest OS,  i get error msg unable to connect to server. After update, I couldnt complete the update process.  How do i fix?

I couldnt complete the process after the update.  The system wouldnt accept my 2nd email address.  Now i am unable to restart that process.  I get Unable to connect to server everytime i try to access my ICloud from my iphone

If you buy an iLife '11 install DVD (eBay, Amazon) you could upgrade your iPhoto right away. The earlier iPhoto '11 versions are compatible with MacOS X 10.6.8.
but I can't until I upgrade from OS X 10.6.8.  Trying to figure out how to do that...
To upgrade to Mt. Lion see here:  You can buy it and download it from the appStore, if your mac is compatible:

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

remove your caps database.  this shows the location for cs3.  make the obvious changes for cs5.

I have installed the beta version of 6.1 a month ago and now i cannot open my iphone 5 it needs regestration and when i try to register it says that it couldnt complete and i need to register in the developer what can i do now to reopen my device?

Probably wasn't a good idea to install beta software on a device when you're not a developer.
Apple clearly states that beta software is not to be installed on production devices.
Not really much you can do except wait for iOS 6.1 to be officially released and then install it.

  • Unable to install Yosemite using SSD in Optical Bay Caddy

Thanks for any help in advance. I recently purchased this item from Amazon:
HDD/SSD SATA III caddy for Apple MacBook (Pro) replaces SuperDrive + slot-in USB enclosure for SuperDrive - 9.5 mm (SATA - SATA) - TheNatural2020: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
I'm having big problems using it to install an SSD in my Macbook Pro Late 2011. When I put an SSD into the caddy (Samsung EVO 120GB SSD) I am unable to install OS X Yosemite onto the SSD. The installation fails instantly stating 'File system verify and repair failed'. I can format the hard drive using Disk Utility and that seems to work fine, but go back to installing Yosemite from USB and it fails again.
The SSD is fine as when I install it in the regular HDD bay I can install Yosemite just fine (that's how I'm typing just now). If I transfer the SSD back to the caddy, it won't boot from it again (showing a flashing folder with a question mark on it).
If I keep the SSD in the hard drive bay and put another HD in the caddy, the other HD is visible in OSX but almost unusably slow.
This leads me to think there's a problem with the caddy, so I ordered a second one from Amazon, but this gives the same problem! Now I'm stuck - neither caddy works properly with SSD or HD, corrupting the data on it somehow. Any suggestions would be very helpful!

    SimonStokes wrote:
is it possible that it's the cable between the caddy and the motherboard that's the problem?
Yes.  I have seen that SSDs in the 'normal' boot drive location have problems when the SATA cable is not shielded.  Swapping back the original HDD makes the MBP functional.
I am guessing that you may be experiencing the same phenomenon.  Wrap the cable in tin foil and see if that makes a difference.
    Ciao.

  • Accidentally removed driver for 8600 in Macbook Air Yosemite now unable to install driver again

Please help. I accidentally remove this printer for a blind child using this printer exclusively. Now when I downloaded the software for the 8600 All in One it does not show up the printer at all. What can I do? Thanks

    Hi @PhillipK7,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are unable to install the driver for your HP Officejet 8600, on Mac OS X 10.10. I am happy to look into this for you!
How is the printer connected? Wireless or USB?
Are you able to make copies with the printer? Copying a Multipage Original.
In the meantime, I would suggest going through this guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Mac OS X, and follow the steps for OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion and OS X v10.9 Mavericks.
Hope this gets you connected again, and have a good day!

i need to install a fresh copy of OS X onto my macbook pro 13. i did erase the old partition "macintosh hd" & now when i am trying to create a new partition, it shows "partition failed..couldnt unmount disk"...pls help !!

First of all, I have to ask, why to you "need" to install a fresh copy of OSX?
This may mean that your hard drive is failing, so hopefully you have a backup.
I'm assuming you were in your recovery partition when you did this.
I would, from the recovery partition, repair your hard drive and permissions.
When to Run First Aid in Mountain Lion's Disk Utility - For Dummies
And then try to create the partition again.
If that doesn't work, you have a few options:
Try a third party utility like DiskWarrior or TechTool which may be able to repair your hard drive:
DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac Disk Repair, Mac Directory Repair, Mac Disk Recovery, Mac Data Recovery or Techtool Pro 7
Try internet recovery, perhaps erase the entire hard drive and reinstall ML.
If nothing else works, then I'd replace the HD and start over.

  • I am unable to install the latest update to iTunes, I get constant error messages, even when I attempt to uninstall iTunes completely and start afresh, iTunes is still listed in my program files on my hard drive and the shortcut is still on my desktop!?

Is there a bug with the latest update to iTunes because I am unable to install it, I get constant error messages if I try to open it after installing

    Hey there Mambo822,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after installing a recent update. I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following article:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling
