Yosemite update not responding

Hi,
I just update my Air (Early 2014) to Yosemite. At the end of the installation something went wrong. My air is not responding and the installation process is not carried on. It tells me that the installation is finished in about 1 minute but since a few hours nothing changed.
What can I do?
Thanks for you help,
Michael

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly to restart.

  • IPod Updater not responding

    Hi everybody
my iPod was displaying the folder with exclamation mark
so I figured that I need to restore it
    the problem is
whenever I open the iPod Updater and connect my iPod, the iPod Updater wouldn't respond
    it just freezes
and I downloaded the latest version but I got the same problem
I've put my iPod in desk mode, but this wouldn't help either
    does anyone has any suggesions?
    thanks
    sam

You again? The poster of this topic WENT to that page, genius! I've been havign a very similar problem, I must have seen that page a zillion times! You are being incredibly patronizing, please stop.
To the poster of this thread: I had this problem, and I scoured the earth until I found this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301267
I had the "firmware update failure" AND your "NOT RESPONDING" thing, and that page helped a lot. Hope it helps you.

  • Software Update not responding

Software Update is not responding.  Every time I try to open software update, it gives me the spinning wheel, and doesn't progress.  Eventually, it tells me that App Store is not responding, and I have to force quit the app store.  I tried going through the Terminal, and nothing happened after I typed the command (using sudo) and entered my password.  I'm also having trouble installing programs using OS X's installer app, and I'm wondering if these problems might be related.

    Try this:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I'm using a late 2012 iMac.  Following advice I saw in another, similar thread, I deleted all FaceTime items in Keychain Access (including certificates), as well as all of the following from my User/Library/Preferences folder:

    Is iGlasses causing the problem?
EDIT:  Wait— FaceTime launched after a several minutes (I hadn't force quit it), but the iSight camera light did not come on, and the FaceTime window shows something I've never seen before— a large image of a camera lens with a series of small spectrum-colored squares arrayed along its top edge.  Moreover, the iGlasses mini-window that appears beside it lacks images, showing just small reproductions of that same image of a camera lens.
NEW EDIT:  I tried using FaceTime.  I called a friend, and the audio worked and I could see him, but all he could see was that same camera lens image.

  • Appleworks 6.2.9 updater not responding

I am running Appleworks 6.2.4 and just downloaded the 6.2.9 updater. I was able to unstuff the file and double-clicked on the updater application. It opens and then I get a little window that says "gathering information", but it never progresses beyond that. I have forced quit and tried again, but to no avail. (Note: the first time I opened the updater application, I was greeted with the software agreement window, which I accepted. That window no longer appears when I've tried to re-run the updater.)
    Thanks.

Even if AppleWorks finds a copy of AppleWorks to update on your startup drive, the updater looks at all connected drives to make sure there aren't any other copies of AppleWorks that need updating. So, the simple solution is to make sure all drives, including your iDisk, are unmounted before running the updater.

  • HT4623 6.1.2 OTA update not responding

when i go to update my iphone 4 using OTA it just sits there checking for updates but never finds anything,it just spins and spins however when connect to itunes it notifies me that there is an update avail.I'm currently running iOS 6.1.1 and want to update to 6.1.2

Don't listen to anyone who tells you not to update. You're going to have to update regardless. If you need to do any troubleshooting with Apple, step one is to update. If you ever have to restore your phone, you'll be updating. If you ever have to send your phone in for repair, you'll be updating. Yes, there are issues, but these will be ironed out. As far as your issue is concerned, you can try to reset the network settings and the like. Again, even if the option isn't there, it's necessarily indicative of an issue.

  • HT1551 After updated not responding

When I turned on my Apple TV , asked for updated. I did and took as 2 hrs to download update.
WHen finished, box light is blinking,I disconnect from TV and plug on it again.
stilled blinking. TV screen said no signal.after 6 hrs stilled blinking and won't turn off or
    on with control remote

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

  • MY Appleworks updater not responding.

My question is similar to the previous post by Emily Kessler, with some difference. I have had AW 6.2.9 installed for some time. Yesterday the AW icon in my dock suddenly changed (but Get Info says it's still 6.2.9), and when I tried to spell check a WP file, I got a message saying that the main dictionary was not installed. So I downloaded the 6.2.9 installer, but when I tried to use it, I got the dreaded rainbow whirling pizza and message "Gathering information," then message: "The default location required for this install could not be found. The install will be cancelled." ??? Spotlight doesn't find iDisk on my HD, only "iDisk Utility." ??? NB: I also have AW 6.0.4 installed (running under Classic). For almost a year, I've been using both 6.0.4 and 6.2.9 with no problem. I'm grateful for any help.
    Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

First, you cannot download any version of AppleWorks any where (legally). It either came with a Mac or it was purchased. You have a G4 Mac, is that a G4 iMac? If it is, AppleWorks is on the restore disks that came with it. You can install AppleWorks without erasing & restoring all of the original software. Apple has written two articles, Knowledge Base article 300316 on installing AppleWorks 6 & Knowledge Base article 61802 on restoring the software than came with your Mac.
I asked about Classic because, since you had AppleWorks 6.0.4, I thought you had an older AppleWorks 6 installer CD. The original installer for 6.0.4 won't run in OS X. It needs OS 8 or 9.
It is not at all unusual to have main & user dictionaries on the hard drive & AppleWorks not be able to spell check. That's just a matter of "telling" AppleWorks which dictionaries to use & where they are. With a word processing document open, go to Edit > Writing Tools -> Select Dictionaries... > click "Main Dictionary" (if it isn't already clicked) > Choose > & navigate to the dictionary which should be in HD > Applications > AppleWorks 6 > AppleWorks Essentials > Dictionaries. The same process is used to create a user dictionary. Click "User Dictionary" then click "New" -> Save.
Yes, AppleWorks 6.2.8 has macros. It's not AppleWorks that doesn't support them, it's OS X.
I still think part of the problem is that you have/had two different versions of AppleWorks 6 on your hard drive.
When you put the AppleWorks icon in the Dock, you are not putting the actual application in the Dock, it automatically creates an alias. The actual application needs to be in the same AppleWorks 6 folder with the AppleWorks Essentials folder. If it's not in the same folder, you will not be able to spell check or translate documents into another file type.

I am confused at how my computer can still communicate with the scanner portion of my All-in-one printer but when I try to print it says "filter error."  I actually like most of the features of the Yosemite update, especially Preview, so I am reluctant to down grade to Maverick. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this printing issue as of yet?

It appears Kodak printers are no longer supported by OS X, likely because of Kodak's financial difficulties.

  • IPad 3G 64Gig not responding to touch

I have a serious  problem with my iPad  and would really like some resolve to the challenges I'm encountering.  My iPad (3G 64G) stopped working in December 2013 after I did an iOS update (not responding to touch gestures).  I did everything to try revive it, from hard shutdown to reset and nothing works.
On the 16th May 2014 it started working after i brought it to a certified Apple repairs store (MacPlus) in Jamaica for a diagnosis.  The results given is that there is a defective chip on the circuit board that is contributing to the problem, and while doing their test the device worked for an hour then stopped responding.  When I went to collect the device, it started working until the 27th May it stopped working at 6:58pm.  Later that night (10:50pm) it started responding to touch again, but by the morning of the 28th it is gone again till this moment.
My question now is, what is the root cause of this problem (base on the situation laid out) and how unique is it?  What kind of resolution can Apple now give me when this problem started manifested itself just after the warranty has expired?  Can you refer me to an Apple Store/Support to have this problem resolved and how much would it possibly cost to get this done?
    I await your earliest response.
    Thank you.

This is an iPad user to user forum, so you are not addressing Apple. We have no way to know what and when Apple will do something. You'll have to wait for an announcement by Apple.
Apple's Limited Warranty http://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/ for iPad excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.
The warranty will apply to the country of purchase. And if there is a problem needing repair you have to return it to the country of purchase.
    Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace (Apple doesn't repair) your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below. (The replacement will most likely be a refurbished iPad in a brown box, however, it has a new screen, back and battery.)
    iPad model
    Out-of-Warranty Service Fee
    iPad mini
    $219
    iPad 3rd, 4th, Air
    $299
    iPad 2, iPad

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. Hi Buterem,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your MacBook Pro since your recent Yosemite update. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are having intermittent but persistent responsiveness issues with your mouse or trackpad, you may want to try using Activity Monitor to see if these incidents correspond to occupied system resources, especially system memory or CPU. You may find the following article helpful:
How to use Activity Monitor - Apple Support
If the entire system hangs or locks up (for example, if the system clock freezes and stops counting up), you may also be experiencing some variety of Kernel Panic. If that is the case, you may also find this article useful:

  • MacBook Pro Mid 2012 not starting up after Yosemite Update

I'm using a MacBook Pro mid 2012 model , enrolled into Yosemite Public Beta Program ...
After the official public launch , app store suggested that i rather update from beta 5 to beta 6 , as downloading extra 5 gig of OS data seemed unnecessary for me , I just updated from the app store.
Post the update , after shutting down my MacBook , I tried starting it up after 8 hours , it failed to respond to any of my prompts .
    Keyboard not responding
    Power Button not responding
Li-Po Battery indicator alone works ,
When plugged MagSafe , it indicates charging .
The Sleep Indicator (in the front - that of hard disk drive ) blinks occasionally.
Later, when i tried powering up with MagSafe , It booted luckily , after some 20 hours of work , i shut the system down ,
Again when i tried booting up  , it failed .
The problem persists since 3 days.
I tried booting up in Safe Mode - No result
Tried Verbose Booting up - No result
Cleared NV RAM - No result
Cleared SMC as Apple instructed for Intel Based MacBooks - No result.
Removed Battery and kept aside for a while , After an hour tried powering up , It booted up , Went till Apple Logo , The loading bar was some 45%
Then it started to go down with a black screen ,
    It never starts up again.
After regular intervals of removing and installing battery , it starts up to white screen and goes off.
I am really worried and desperate now.
I am not sure whether my HDD is dead or my Battery is dead  or my Logic board is dead or my Yosemite Install was not right ?
After hours of online research , nothing seems to be helpful .
People at Apple Care (Premium ReSeller , India) are so irresponsible in attending the issue ,
They say its helpless without even doing some basic troubleshoot.
Where would it have went wrong and What am i supposed to do now ?
    PLEASE HELP !!

    darkrider92,
I have the same model MacBook Pro as the one that you got from your mom. Were you able to install the 10.6.8 update successfully onto the factory drive? Were you using the factory RAM when you tried to install the 10.6.8 update on the SSD?
Have you checked  the Web site of the SSD’s manufacturer, to see if there’s a firmware update available for the SSD?
You can download the 10.6.8 update outside of Software Update from Apple here; in case you need to try to install this update several times, running it from your local disk would be more convenient than waiting for it to download again.

  • Update server not responding photosmart 410 all-in-one

    Hi all,
I'm new to blogging and not too computer savvy so patience please. This problem looks like it's been posted before but I'm not sure how to apply it to me.  I have a 410a printer connected to a minimac running OSx 10.10 (yosemite?). I am trying to update software to prevent duplicates printing after turning off the computer. When I go through the procedure to run update the printer screen says it had a problem connecting to the server.
I tried the printer IP address in Safari and Firefox but both say server is not responding. Is the server down, or is a problem with my setup?
    Help - and thanks
    This question was solved.

    Hello HevnLgh,
Thank you for your input. I tried to follow your instructions but had trouble right from the start. I got to HP uninstaller and clicked continue but there was no printer listed. It just said "device" and uninstall was greyed out. I decided to just continue so I reset the printing system and repaired the  disk permissions.
It took me a couple of tries to reinstall the printer from the Apple website because at first it couldn't find the device to add so I tried using the IP address on the next tab and that seemed to do something but it still wouldn't print. The printer was found after I  went back and tried again and everything seemed to work this time (whew).
I tried the update procedure on the printer itself and it still can't connect with the server, but the original problem with the duplicate copy on shut down seems to have resolved itself.
The bottom line is my printer is working like it's supposed to (for now anyway)  and I didn't get two copies of my printout so thank you again for your help.  It's good to know I can go somewhere for help when I have a problem.

  • I just updated itunes to 11.1.3 on my laptop and now it won't open. It does not respond to trying "safe mode" either.

I just updated itunes to 11.1.3 on my laptop and now it won't open. It does not respond to trying "safe mode" either. Anyone have an idea as to what to do?

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

  • "Update server not responding" when trying to update Acrobat 9 Pro

I just installed Acrobat 9 Pro on my desktop computer and on my laptop. I was able to download and install the latest updates to the copy on my desktop computer (so that it is now version 9.3.0), using Help>Check for Updates.
When I try the same command on my laptop, I get and error message that states "The update server is not responding, which means it may be offline at the moment, or the Internet or firlewall settings may be incorrect. Please try again later." I tried several times yesterday and today with the same error. The message pops up immediatley; it doesn't even seem to actually try to connect.
I disabled my firewall and antivirus software and still get the same result. I uninstalled then reinstalled Acrobat and still get the same result.
I looked online at Adobe.com to see about downloading and installing the updates manually, but it's difficult for me to tell which updates I need. Some are for other languages and some are for 64-bit but I have Windows 7 32-bit.
A call to tech support was no help. The agent seemed to think because I installed verison 9.0 that I only needed the one English update listed on the download page under 9.0, and not any of the later updates. . . And he said that Adobe recommends manually installing updates from Adobe.com rather than using the Check for Updates command (?!).
Anyway, does anyone know what might be causing this problem with the adobe updater? Maybe I need to reinstall the updater (where do I find it?).
    OR
Can someone tell me which of the updates listed on the Acrobat dowload page I should manually install to bring my product up to date?
[Running Windows 7 32-bit on both machines]
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Which version of Acrobat do you have ?
(Launch Acrobat and Go to Acrobat->About Adobe Acrobat menu item and check the version )
Also, can you ping following urls ?
    armmf.adobe.com
    armdl.adobe.com
    ardownload.adobe.com
    Are these urls reachable ?
Also, you can check the contents of host file /etc/defaults/host to see that none of the ips are redirected.
One more thing that you could try:
If you have firewall on, could you please disable the firewall and then try the update. Does it works now ?
