Yosemite Update - Now cannot mount CDs or DVDs

My MacBook Pro will no longer mount CDs or DVDs after upgrading to Yosemite.
Appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks!
...John

Did all the suggested workarounds but it turns out the Optical Drive had died - some 2 weeks after my 3 year Applecare Warranty expired!
Bought & installed a replacement - all is well!
Problem was not Yosemite!!

  • Updated iPhone / iTunes and now cannot Import CDs

    OS: Win7 Home Premium
    iTunes: 10.1.0.56
Yesterday I decided to take the plunge and started importing my CD collection. About 30 CDs in I decided to take a break. I plugged in my iPhone and hit the update button in iTunes. (I’m not sure if I got the iPhone update and/or Itunes + quicktime update.) At any rate, when I went back to importing CDs nothing would import. I’ve tried about 5 different CDs, but each gets a version of this error, “Error occurred while converting the file [blah blah blah]. The disk could not be read from or written to.”
I can play CDs using iTunes. I can play previously imported CDs using iTunes. But now I cannot import CDs.

Its always the first song of the CD as I try to import it. I can play from the CD without any problem. However, when I click 'Import CD' I get the following type of error, "Error occurred while converting teh file 'Mozart: Le Nozze Di Figaro, K 492 - - Overture'. The disk could not be read from or written to.
I'm trying to save to a network folder. I'm not sure what the path is or how to find it again in iTunes.

  • HT201257 Yosemite update , now MacBook won't load

Did Yosemite update on my MacBook Pro and now my fans are constant and I get a grey password screen, I enter my password and everything leads really slowly then I get a DMS launch error box come up then it freezes . Help driving me mad !!!!

Start you MacBook Pro with the original DVD that came with the MacBook Pro and run disk utility on your hard drive to repair it, also repair your permissions.

  • IPod Updater software "cannot mount ipod"

Hmm.. ok so a couple months back my iPod just took a crap on me. I hook it up to my pc and get the apple logo then the whole folder w/ !. Then it goes into the "do not disconnect" thing but then it resets on a continuous cycle. I've tried to hook it up to the updater and restore it but the updater says it cannot mount ipod. So... my question is, do I have to send this thing in to be repaired, and will they even do it?
    Thank you,
    Justin

I finally called Apple. After going through everything the website says to do with the service tech, she recommended I take the ipod to an Apple Store or send it in for service. I went to the Apple Store today, and the tech there said that something was physically wrong with the drive. Since mine was still under warranty he gave me a new one.
Sorry that I didn't have a better answer

  • HELP!!  Upgraded to latest Itunes, now cannot import CDs!!!

Was doing fine, enjoying my new Ipod, building music library for first time. Then I upgraded and now I can no longer import music.
I ran diagnostics as suggested in other thread on problems burning CD, which shows that the computer is not recognizing my CD drive anymore. And in My Computer...it does not show that there is an audio cd in the drive.
What is going on that Itunes is causing the computer not to recognize the drive? I read that there is a work around for the immediate problem of beginning the import in windows media player---but is there a way of backing out of this version of Itunes that is clearly problematic? I really regret upgrading.
Itunes diagnostic is below which shows drive is "empty" when there is a CD in it.
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)
    TOSHIBA Satellite A45
    iTunes 7.0.1.8
    CD Driver 2.0.6.0
    CD Driver DLL 2.0.6.0
    LowerFilters: PxHelp20 (2.0.0.0), AFS2K (3.1.14.0), BSSTOR (1.0.7.0), PFC (2.5.0.201),
    UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.6.0),
    Video Driver: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller\Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
IDE\DiskIC25N060ATMR04-0______________________MO3OAD4A, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomTOSHIBADVD-ROM_SD-R2412________________1431___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
    Current user is an administrator.
    D: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-R2412, Rev 1431
    Drive is empty.

    "+itunes frequently renders CD/DVD burners useless...+"
"Frequently"?! Do you know why (and what can be done about it)?
I'd love to have itunes on my PC and throw 'em $$ for downloads, but I haven't had any luck so far. And, frankly, I'd rather have my drive and burner working and be itunes-less than the other way around...
EDIT: I asked in an already existing thread with no luck:

  • Just did update now cannot play itunes songs???

    Hello:
I just was prompted to do an itunes update. I did this (now I wish that I had not) and I cannot play any of my songs on itunes. Each time I try to play a song I get a message saying...."the song "xxxxxx" could not be used because the original file could not be found." Any help is much much much appreciated!!!

Have you been able to find a song file on your system's hard drives?
Are those songs on an external hard drive?

  • MacBook Pro not mounting CDs or DVDs

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro that fails to mount any optical disk inserted into the SuperDrive. All the requisite check boxes are checked on for it to show mounted disks; the disks are drawn in and spin up then they just spin down and sit there until ejected using the eject button. I've inserted CDs & DVDs burned on other Macs and also a music CD and the behavior is consistent for each type.
Is there a way to reset the SuperDrive to re-enable its ability to recognize the inserted optical disks?
Has anyone else seen this problem on this recent vintage system and come up with a solution?
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Pro 9.5.1 Update Now Cannot Print to PDF

Since the update to 9.5.1 from 9.5.0 I can no longer print to Adobe PDF from any program.  I have reinstalled the update, ran the "Repair Adobe Installation" and still cannot print to a pdf.  It hangs at the point where you would be asked to name and save the pdf file.
    I need a solution please!

Since you apparently have the Adobe PDF printer, try printing to file from the print menu (just a check box). If that completes, open the file in Distiller to complete the process. Assuming success, you will need to check for AcroTray running in the background. It is necessary for the printer to work properly.

  • Downloaded Update, now cannot access Music Store

We've been able to use the s/w without incident. Today, we were prompted to download your update. We did.
Now when we attempt to access the Music Store, we get a popup with the following:
iTunes could not connect to the Music Store.
Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
MY NETWORK CONNECTION IS JUST FINE - IT'S YOUR DOWNLOAD THAT'S THE PROBLEM. IF I UNINSTALL YOUR S/W AND REINSTALL USING THE CD-ROM, WILL WE LOSE THE MUSIC WE HAVE PURCHASED THUS FAR?

If you have any probs with getting into you music store after downloading a new version of itunes you have to configure your personal firewall in Norton. To do this - Open you Norton Internet Security, click on Status & Settings, go down to Personal Firewall and click on Configure...Click on the Programs tab at the top, in Manual Program Control, scroll down until you see itunes, click on the arrow next to it (it might say BLOCK ALL right now)...Change this to PERMIT ALL... and you should be good to go!! good luck all!

  • I cannot mount a external DVD usb drive

    Hello,
I am trying to install a extenal DVD usb in a sparc enterprise t5220 with Solaris 10. After connecting the device i got this message:
WARNING: Device /pci@0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/usb@0,2/hub@4/cdrom@2/disk@0,0 failed to power up.
    WARNING: /pci@0/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/pci@1/pci@0/usb@0,2/hub@4/cdrom@2/disk@0,0 (sd3):
Command failed to complete...Device is gone
I rebooted the server and used different ports but i still got the same message several times.
Is there some one that can tell me if this is a hardware problem or is there any procedure to install and/or mount this external device?
    Thanks

USB drives can not be used to boot a PowerPC Mac so you will not be able to install new OS X; recover in the event of a major problem or repair the hard disk if it become corrupt to name a few examples if you purchase a USB drive.
Firewire performance on the Mac is also far superior to USB2.0 performance.

  • TS3274 iPad installed the new os update now cannot unlock

After the new os update installed you were required to create a Passcode to access the iPad, not allowed to complete the update without doing so. When typing one the system did not alllow me to finish typing saying after the first 4 or 5 letters "it was not secure enough" and took it as the passcode. Now it will not except the code and there is no prompt to reset it. I have tried numerous passcodes thinking it was referencing a previous one but all were rejected timing me out to try again later.
How can I retreive what was accepted or create a new one.?

Although it is not prominently displayed, there is an option to skip the passcode setup.
Unfortunately, there is no way to decipher what the passcode is so you will need to reset it:
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

  • Yosemite Update now opens Adobe Application Manager

The most recent update to my iMac now has the application manager opening at the startup and will not close or get out of my dock.
Can anyone tell me how to shift it from the dock as right clicking only gives me the opportunity to "Keep in the dock"? It won't close at all either
    Many thanks in advance

Phill it may be that the Adobe Application Manager is attempting to update your applications?  The behavior you described is not typical.  I would recommend running all available uninstallers located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once your existing installations are removed you can see if you experience the same behavior.

  • Yosemite updated now mac will not start up

My daughter did an update on her Mac computer, about a week ago, and now will not reboot.

Does anything happen when the on/off button is pressed - does it even attempt to start?
Has she got another power cable she could use? Also check the fuse in the plug.
If she hasn't already she could try an SMC reset, although if the Mac is stone dead it probably won't help (no harm trying though). If all the above fail it's probably time for a trip to the workshop.

  • Just downloaded yosemite and now cannot connect with wi-fi and can no longer scan from my HP all in one

after download a message said that " Flip for Mac " is not compatible and was moved to " Incompatible software folder ". Same for my Belkin Router monitor.
And then today I tried to scan a photograph to iPhoto and it would not scan even though I was able to update iPhoto with no problems. Has anyone out there experienced these problems and if so is there a fix. Thanks

I would try running the HP Print Diagnostic Utility. Go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-91788-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...= and see what part fails.
The PDU checks the connectivity, spooler condition, online status, device manager, print queue, ports, driver, conflicts, and default printer.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
