Yosemite wake after sleep issue loginwindow stuck

Do you know about any workaround until Apple fixes this?
Other than going back to 10.9 or preventing sleep (with power cord).
I have late 2013 Macbook Pro, which was fine before 10.10 upgrade.
Apple:  I can provide technical details if needed.

For anyone interested in this issue, I'm marking the topic as "answered" -- but only because the issue has gone away apparently on its own, not because of anything I have done. My only explanation for this is that maybe some bit of crud got into the keyboard & triggered a wake event & it eventually worked its way out or was removed by periodic dusting. It is a weak theory at best.
Of course I'm happy to be rid of the issue but it is annoying not to know why it disappeared or what to do if it reoccurs.

Why is my Macbook Pro slow to wake after sleep?

I am having the same issue. I hook it up to the charger in the evening and close the lid. When I go to use it the next time it takes a good 30 seconds or so to wake up. The screen shows the log in screen but typing doesn't work and the cursor is frozen. Sometimes it will even give the rainbow wheel for the cursor, so it seem like it is processing whatever to get going. I also notice that my battery won't be fully charged at anywhere from 95%-99% after being charged a full evening. What can I do to change whatever is happening because it is pretty crappy to charge it all night expecting to have a full battery for the next use, plus the issue of having to sit there waiting for it to boot every time.

  • The wake from sleep issues

My problems have been a couple of freezes, one boot from sleep, but a UPS overload almost every time I wake up the machine. APC RS1500, nothing connected but the late 2008 Mac Pro and the monitor. Never happens on a cold boot. I figure this has to be just another wake from sleep issue. Among us on this forum we have tried everything but burning incense and waving chicken feet, to no avail. Surely people at Apple are using this computer too and are aware of our problem. After all, it is a pretty obvious problem. My plan is to keep the faith but not hold my breath. Meanwhile, if any of us actually comes up with a solution, I would be very glad to hear it.

    My new MacPro 8-core 2.8GHz (early 2008),
running 10.5.2 with all available updates,
every time restarts when coming back from sleep.
AppleCare Second-Level-Support knows about the problem,
as you can "read beetween the lines", when you talk to them,
but is not allowed to admit it,
because otherwise, thousands of MacPro customers
would be eligible to return their Mac to Apple ...
My advice for the time beeing:
Don't send your MacPro to sleep!
Wait for a firmware-upgrade that will solve the issue.
BUT - call AppleCare (and your dealer) OFTEN,
so that they FEEL the pressure of unsatisfied customers!!!
But also, don't waste your time (and theirs),
doing what they want you to do with your machine,
    to solve the problem,
because this is only said to calm you down!!!
    Wait for the firmware-upgrade!

  • Thinkpad X220 X230 wake from sleep issues??

I am looking to buy either an X220 or X230 Thinkpad laptop and have been reading the forums here for information about wake from sleep issues for these two machines. I have found a lot on the X220 - seems to be a common problem, so I am now thinking that isn't going to be my choice.
My questions for those who may have experienced this with an X230:
-is the wake from sleep a common issue with the X230 laptop?
-is this more of a SSD issue than a regular HHD?
-is this related to the amount of RAM installed?
-is this more of a Win 7 issue? If so, any version that is more susceptible?
I had an HP laptop that finally was unusable due to this issue and want to avoid that with a new laptop. I really like the features and size of the x230 - and that I can still get Win 7.
Any input on how often the X230 has this type of issue - and any solutions that have worked - would be greatly appreciated, as I really am reluctant to have history repeated with this wake from sleep issue.
    Thanks!
    HL

I've got a similar problem. For years, and through many OS & security updates, before going to bed I've been setting both Energy Saver settings to 3 minutes and then rebooting. The computer slept nicely until I hit "Return" in the morning. Lately hitting Return only wakes it up after the first night, the second reboot reacts in a couple of ways:
    1. The computer won't sleep, but the USB shuts off.
    2. The following morning the computer wakes up but the USB and the monitor doesn't.
The only way to deal with this is to hold the power button down until the machine shuts down. Clearly, something is not right. The Mac needs to be shut down after only one reboot. If it's not shut down it won't sleep.

  • 23" momitor won't wake after sleep after installing Radeon AGP 128 dual dvi

    hello,
My monitor won't wake after sleep mode. This is new after installing the radeon 128mb dual dvi card. I assumed it should be "ready to go" because I bought it at Tekserve, which sells and fixes Macs.
And if I have my 17" acer display connected the desktop, upon wake-up, partially swithches to the 17" -minus the tool bar. And without the tool bar I cannot access the OS or preferences. I have to restart.
Is there a driver to solve this dilemma? I can keep the computer on without sleep and turn off the monitors but that seems to be a poor solution.

How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space.
    Check for Login Items
Open System Preferences/Accounts then select the Login Items tab. Delete any files or apps you have listed there.
And go to /Library/Startup Items. Move any files in the Startup Items folder to the Trash
If there's enough disk space and login items aren't an issue, launch Disk Utility. The startup disk may need repairing.
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Select: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions).

  • G4 won't wake after sleeping

My ibook G4 has recently been unable to wake after sleeping. The only recent software change was a Security update and itunes update. the problem seemed to start just after that.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Chuck

The screen is not set to dark. When it fails to wake up from sleeping, there is no noise from the disk drive. There is no reaction to any input except holding the on off button until it restarts.
This seems to be an intermittent problem; sometimes it won't wake at all, sometimes it wakes, but makes a steady buzzing noise until I restart it.
I've set it to never sleep, but since I travel with my computer most every day, I do have to close it, and then often have the problem when I re-open it.

  • IMac won't wake after sleep

    Hi
I have a brand new iMac 21.5" with Hybrid drive.
Its OS and apps are fully update to date.
Strange thing is that it won't wake from sleep.
To reboot, I have to turn the power off at the wall and back on again. Neither of the usual
wake/reboot processes work (holding the power button briefly or holding the power button for
    > 10 seconds). No combination of opt/ctrl/cmd/power work either. I have to turn it off at the wall
and back on again, after which it immediately boots.
I've reset the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM.
I've checked the power options - which are set to defaults (sleep after 15 IIRC).
I've also checked the console log at the time of sleep - and there is no indication of anything
going wrong (an example is below).
Does anyone have any other ideas as to what I can try before going through the painful process
of sending it into the shop?
    Many thanks.
    Paul.
Console log below. You can see the machine went to sleep after 12:05pm, and I woke it up and 8:20pm. There seem to be no unusual messages in the middle.

I have gone to the apple support team - and they took me to the standard apple "what happens if your mac won't turn on" page
(If your Mac won't turn on - Apple Support) and walked me through the standard checks (which I'd already done).
The support guy thought it was a bad driver - I'm not so sure as I haven't installed anything new (just updates).
Anyway - I was just hoping/wondering someone in the wider community had seen this issue before I take the machine
    in for servicing.

  • Wake from sleep issues

In the past month our G5 Mac has been unable to wake after long periods of sleep. In many cases, the Mac starts to stir (you can hear the drive begin), but the computer freezes and must be cold-booted. Further, the fan will run at a very high speed, then slow...also requiring a cold-boot.
Is this a common issue? Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do or what issue we may be facing (hardware, etc)?

Greetings and welcome to the Apple boads.
The first step would be to unplug all peripherals except keyboard, monitor and mouse. Plug the keyboard and mouse directly into the Mac if they are wired-use no hubs.
If the problem goes away, add devices back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If you still have the problem, we will have to dig deeper.
    Luck-

  • PowerMac G4 Wake From Sleep Issues

I have a PowerMac G4 Digital Audio with 2gb of ram, and a 768mhz processor. I just upgraded to 10.5 and have started to use it regularly for media streaming.  Everything works fine, except for one thing.  I put the Mac to sleep, and when I wake it up, I get the spinning beachball and after a few seconds the screen freezes.  This problem occured before I installed Leopard, but I thought that the upgrade might fix it.  I read somewhere that this might be because of Kernel Panic, but I don't know much about that either.  Please help!

Wake from sleep is usually due to USB, Firewire, or PCI card issues... what all do you have installed?
In 3 recent cases tis solved the problem though...
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667
After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6of it's things.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Delete old Log files.
At least if it doesn't fix it, it'll eliminate a few questions. :-)
Besides, once you really, really need it... you can't install it!

  • Display wakes after sleep for no apparent reason

Had the imac for 6 months first time I have had this issue.
I put the imac to sleep and within 30 secs it wakes with my password login dialogue box (the dialogue box is normal, I have the display password protected), it then goes blank as if going back to sleep, then does the same thing again repeatedly. If I don't login then eventually the screen goes blank, the sleep light goes off all together, then the machine will not wake and I have to switch it off and back on again to get it working.
I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, sometimes if these are knocked then the machine will wake from sleep, however, I have made sure this is not happening and so this does not explain the problem.
Any help gratefully received, I am baffled!!

Go to System Preferences and select Energy Saver. Uncheck "Wake for network access" option. See if that if that solves your issue.

  • OS 10.10.1 update didn't solve wake from sleep issue

Since I installed Yosemite on my late 2009 iMac 27", it doesn't wake from sleep properly. I get a grey screen with my account photo and nothing else. A hard reset is then all that helps. I have disconnected all audio devices and zapped the PRAM, to no avail. Any ideas?

Something wrong's here. If you have a Retina, that means you have a flash drive - which means a boot time of maybe twelve seconds.
Since it's a new machine, I strongly suggest you visit your local Apple Store. Please post with your results!

  • Won't wake after sleep

Is anybody else having the following problem. I started a back-up session using Apple's Backup application when I went to bed and was going to allow it to run over night. I was backing up to the external drive attached to my Airport and when I woke up to check it my computer would not wake from sleep - just the spinning ball. Eventually, I had to force a restart. This has happened a few times when using the external drive plugged into the Airport with Apple's Backup application. Does anybody have any thoughts about this?

Set your computer to never sleep—at least when you're doing a backup.

  • Laptop doesn't wake after sleep mode after Windows 10 update

I usually lower the laptop lid when i want to put it into sleep mode; after the windows 10 update, this stopped working. I tried putting it into sleep mode from the start menue. This causes the screen to become black, but power to remain on ( I can see this from a steady light from the power button whereas sleep would have a flashing power button). The laptop's fan also increases in speed. When I try to wake the laptop, nothing happenes; I have tried to use ctrl+alt+delete, however this also does not work. I am ususally forced to resort to a manual shut down via holding the power button for a few second and restarting the laptop. I have tried updating the display adapters, restarted the laptop, and still no result. Does anyone know why this is happenning and how I can fix it?

I was having the Exact Same Issue. The reason I decided to go back to windows 8 was because since upgrading to Windows 10, when my computer goes into sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. I have to press and hold the power button to shut it done and restart. Even if I close my laptop, and reopen the lid, it wont start back up and I have to press and hold the power button and shut it down and restart.  After trying to restore my HP Envy Laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 8, it got stuck in a Repair PC Loop and I could not even access the desktop, I tried the restore option to an earlier date and that failed and all the repair options also failed. The last option I had was to do a full PC Refresh, and that one worked. It took about an hour but no data was lost, and only a few of my downloaded apps were removed. An html url was left on the desktop that showed a list of all the apps that were removed. So all I did was download those back and now im back up and running Windows 8.

  • When Yosemite wakes from sleep, no password entry box.

Installed Yosemite v 10.10 on a mid 2011 iMac. I use the standard energy saver settings for sleep and require a password after screen save and sleep.
About half the time, when I wake the machine from sleep, the enter password screen appears, but there is no password box and no mouse pointer. The icon for the user is there, but nothing else. It also seems there is no mouse or keyboard availability.
I'm forced to do a hard reset, the install scrubber bar appears asif the machine is finishing an install, then I can log in.
Attached peripherals are external drive for back up, speakers and iphone.
I've looked around for similar problems but have not found any. I did do a safe boot to no effect.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
